Worst office visit I've ever had in my 46 years of life. Wouldn't take my dog there, first he goes into his sells speech and then how i've never taken care of my teeth in my life then had the gall to prescribe me two drugs not recommended for a diabetic or someone with asthma good thing i look up everything prescribed by any Doc if you want to call him that. WARNING STAY AWAY FROM THIS IDIOT

Just starting my vacation when my crown came out at lunch time- I called this office and they got me in within the hour- extremely friendly and accommodating. Now I can start my vacation without stressing over my crown.

Had a mercury filling that had no sensitivity what so ever replaced with new material and now when I drink cold water it’s extremly sensitive, was told by me butler, he couldn’t “see” any holes and that I needed a root canal. Absolute non sense, will never go here again

Dr. Butler's front office staff Tracie and Phyllis are very helpful. Dr. Butler is transparent about what his plan is for your dental care. I've gotten regular checkups, whitening, and SureSmile (Invisalign) here, all with no problems. I recommend Dr. Butler to everyone!

I've been a patient of Dr. Butler's for years now!! His service is excellent!! Super friendly and easy to work with!! Going to the dentist isn't always a pleasant experience but Dr. Butler genuinely does his best to make sure you're comfortable! I had horrible dental hygiene before I got insurance and started seeing Dr. Butler. Since then, I'm now cavity free and have had all manners of work done, from basic fillings to crowns and root canals to fix all the problems poor hygiene created for me. The comfort that Dr Butler insured during every one of those procedures made the experiences worth every dollar I spent. I would recommend him to anyone!

The Butlers are very amoral, shady people. I would not ever trust this man to work on my teeth due to the way he and his wife treat the poor college kids who live in the slum he owns. Obviously they're writing fake reviews or cherry picking people with good experiences and incentivizing them to review them. DO NOT trust this man. Everyone in Boone knows about the Butlers. The only reason he's still in business is because the college kids come in knowing nothing and don't have any closer options. If this wasn't a college town they wouldn't still be here.

Kyle Mcgimsey

Dr. Butler was incredibly professional and seemed to genuinely care not only about my dental health, but my life in general. He always asked how I was doing in school and what my plans were after I graduated. During one of my visits I told him I planned on going to law school and he offered to put me in contact with his son, who is an attorney, for some great law school advice/input. On my first visit he noticed my bite was messed up and as a result of that my molars were wearing down way too quickly. He told me I needed braces and I told him that I had, in fact, had braces for 3 years. He asked who my Orthodontist was and he called him up that day to tell him he needed to re-fix my teeth because the job he did was not sufficient!!!! I've seldom met any other healthcare professionals that would go out of their way to help out a patient like that. He is truly a one of a kind stand-up guy. I would highly recommend him to anyone in the Boone area looking for a sharp, knowledgeable, and skillful dentist. Its also worth noting that his prices are on the higher end compared to a lot of other dental professionals in the area but in my opinion, he is worth every penny and at the end of the day you get what you pay for! If you have good dental insurance then the prices are super cheap. He is the closest/most convenient dentist to campus and there is more than enough parking.

What a great experience! Dr. Butler and Staff are so friendly and helpful.

I went to Dr. Butler for extremely receding gum lines. He told me to brush my teeth more often and see if the gums grew back on their own. Receding gum lines are not reversible. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of mentioning that I get migraines, so Dr. Butler convinced me to get an appliance for TMJ. After using this appliance for 3 months and not getting any migraines, I tried to explain to him that a lack of headaches was not indicative of the effectiveness of the appliance since my migraines come in clusters. He told me "cluster is a phrase they use that means nothing". He then proceeded to tell me that how and where my migraines occur is wrong. Dr. Butler was also extremely condescending and constantly referred to my "little hands" and "little mouth" - I'm almost 30. The final straw is that he rarely used a mask when working in my mouth. If I could give him 0 stars, I would.

Great place ! Dr.Butlers new associate Dr.Sands is just the nicest. He talked me through the whole procedure & it was painless. Im definitely coming back

I can not believe that Dr. Butler is still practicing. Looking back I should have sued for what he put me through. I went in because I had some irritation with my toungue. He told me my wisdom teeth were infected and I needed to get them out immediately. Trusting him I had his office remove the teeth. Following this the recovery was over a week long and I got TMJ. When I went to have a physical done for the US Air Force they took an x-ray of my mouth and discovered that a piece of enamel was still in the extraction site as well as all of the root tips. I had to have a second surgery to have the bits removed. To add insult to injury they severed the nerve in the lower left site and I have no more sensation in my toungue to this day which is 6 years later. Avoid at all costs. additionally...do not let them grind your teeth down to fix your bite either, that is terrible practice and bite issues should be taken care of by an orthodontist. I attached pictures of the x-ray with all of the enamel left in the extraction site. This guy is seriously bad news.

Alex Duke

Great doctor very straight forward and honest. Receptionists are the nicest ladies!

I was suffering from severe TMJ issues when I found Dr. Butler in November last year. My pain was so bad that I wanted to give up. Thank God for Dr. Butler! He identified some issues with my bite that were contributing to the pain. Also, I never knew that I was a clencher/grinder (almost impossible to recognize this on your own since it's such an unconscious habit), but lo and behold!, Dr. Butler saw that I was doing damage to my teeth and jaw in my sleep! The first step was a custom-made appliance. This helped a lot, and I think for some people this is the main contributor towards healing, but for me, the REAL healing began after "equilibration" in which sharp and protruding tooth "peaks" were filed down. I had such sharp "peaks" that my teeth were pushing each other in unnatural ways when chewing. The equilibration allowed my teeth to fit together MUCH more nicely, and they were able to move back to their relaxed positions. My jaw was a lot happier too! I still have a lot of healing left to do, but I FINALLY feel like my pain is manageable, and I have my life back! Thank you Dr. Butler!!!

Beware, I have never left a dentist office more outraged, absolutely the worst dental experience ever. So I make an appointment for my son who is having a tooth ache. We had been looking for a dentist closer to home. We get to his office and we are the only patients there, after filling out the paper work the receptionist wants to give us a tour of the office. OK, well that's different but kind of sweet I think. First stop at table of mouth appliances for jaw adjustments...interesting Second a table with teeth implants ...ok interesting Next the various appointment rooms, finally we get to a meeting room where we will have a consultation with the dentist. So he comes in sits across from my son and I , we chit chat for a couple of minuets and he instantly tells my son his jaw is out of line he can tell by the way he moves his mouth and ask if he ever has head aches'. (of course he has had a head aches who has not at some point) Remember we are here because we believe he has a cavity. He precedes to tell us his jaw is out of alignment and needs adjusting. He gets out his handy skull and shows us why jaw alignment causes head aches. He has yet to look in his mouth. My son does not have head aches very offend and this is not why we are here... Finally he gets an X-ray, after looking at his X-ray he started his sales rants about his teeth being to small and to far back in his mouth . My sons wisdom teeth, he would have had removed 4 years earlier...my son is 17 so he would have taken them out when he was 13...Really?? He starts to slam his orthodontic work and tell us everything he thought was wrong with his teeth, how he thought our orthodontist did a terrible job ...FYI Our orthodontist has been voted #1 in western NC. Shocker... wants to do jaw alignment & 4 implants ect,ect... I keep reminding him we are here for a tooth ache!!! This guy has no conscience & 17 year olds can be a bit self conscience, bad combo... he played right into that. I was fuming when we left and my son was deflated....all of this for only 150.00 ....Still has a tooth ache. Stay away, he is more used car salesmen then dentist.

Dr. Butler has improved my TMJ problem already in just a few short months. His staff is personable and very friendly, some of the sweetest people in Boone! Choosing this dentist is the best decision I could make for my teeth!

Kadisha Fields

I will admit, I am a very new patient of this dentist, but by no means on my first and second visits did I feel as though Dr. Butler (or any of his friendly, accommodating staff) were trying to "sell" anything. No, I do not work there and I am not a family friend of anyone who works there. I am just a consumer giving my honest opinion. As far as the pricing and rates go, what do you expect decent to very good dental work to cost you? Of course depending on what you have done during the visits. Dentists, doctors, etc are of course going to be expensive, but their staff are more than willing to work with people as best as they can to provide the best dental care for a reasonable rate. So far, this is the most affordable place I've found in Boone to do the work I need to get done on my teeth.

Laurie Williamson

Dr. Butler is an experienced dentist with a specialty in serving patients with TMJ/bite adjustment issues. His staff is friendly and extremely professional. I've been a patient for over 15 years and have been very satisfied with Dr. Butler's clinical services.

Thank you for taking care of my teeth and smile Dr. Butler. I appreciate all the time spent educating me on the correct way to take care of my teeth. Whether a client's questions are of a brushing nature or saving a tooth, you will find Dr. Butler answers straight forward, in "layman's terms" and if there are options, he will give those to you also. My wife and I have been seeing Dr. Butler for almost 10 years. He and his wife Lois have a friendly office with a most helpful staff who all interact well as a professional team. I would recommend his practice to anyone wanting confidence that he can provide the best oral care for anyones teeth and smile.

Azalia Avila

Dr. Butler and his team are very kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. Especially Dr. John Sands, an outstanding dentist. Dr. Sands explains all procedures and is very skilled and helpful. He is also very responsive and willing to answer any questions or concerns one may have regarding the dental procedure or what steps to take after the procedure. You will have an amazing experience at this practice.

Sean Montgomery

The staff is extremely friendly and helpful! I've been going to DR. Butler for a few years now and have always left with a smile on my face. Great dental professionals and wonderful people all around!

Dallas Stansfield

I went to Dr. Butler for a space in my front teeth to be fixed, and he was extremely helpful with everything. He explained to me what caused the gap to happen, recommended that I get a TMJ appliance for sleeping to prevent excessive clinching. I can't tell you how much it has helped since then, Anytime I forget to wear the TMJ piece, I can feel the discomfort in my teeth for the entire next day. He also helped me with all the lack of dental hygiene that I had. Since being a patient there for a little under a year, my teeth have never been so healthy and looked so good. I have never been a fan of the dentist and now I look forward to all my appointments with his staff. They are some of the nicest and most knowledgeable people I have ever met. He fixed my gap in my teeth and they look like they were perfectly straight and normal like they were 5 years ago! I would 100% recommend Dr. Butler and his staff to anyone who needs dental work in the Boone area or even make a trip to see him if you aren't. These people know teeth and wouldn't steer you in the wrong direction! Thanks Doc for all the work you have done for me!

Where to start. First time I went to this scam artist was in 2001 when in school at ASU. He told me I was in desperate need to root canal and crown 5 teeth. Yeah right. It is 2019 and those teeth have never been mentioned by another dentist. He tries to sell night guards to every single patient saying they grind their teeth. He reminds me of the used car salesman days of the 80s. His five star reviews are all fake. Just notice how there are no four or three star or two star.... only fives or ones. Listen to the people that wrote the one star reviews this guy will try to sell you everything under the sun and probably try to sell you a 12 month lease at one of his roach infested apartments he prays on the college kids

Prior to going to Dr. Butlers office I haven't been to a dentist in four year or so. I was quite nervous about how a dentist would react to seeing someone with such a poor history of cleaning and maintaining their teeth. I went in and was told precisely what needed to be done and we setup an appointment for the following week. The root canal went super smooth and pain free even though it was a harder one to do (molar root canal). The biggest obstacle for me and for most people would be paying for treatment especially since Dr. Butlers office requires full payment first and has your insurance reimburse you after. The office was kind enough to let me pay a little bit upfront and the rest later when I had the funds. A lot of negative reviews on here are about how Dr. Butler lectures you about not cleaning properly. He will give you a lecture if you aren't brushing enough or properly but it's good advice that's only looking out for the patient. Overall: The office is full of friendly and helpful people but dental in general is quite expensive.

I had a really bad experience at a previous dentist that left me worried and nervous to go to the dentist. But this staff and Dr. Butler are amazing! They do tremendous work and make you feel like they truly care about your well being! Definitely one of the best dentists I’ve ever had.

Chris Ransom

Dr. Butler is a wonderful dentist and is great at his practice. I have been to others in the area, and the care you get from him is well above and beyond. Super professional and well involved in the Boone community. I highly recommend him to anyone!

Spencer Connelly

Dr Butler, Phyllis, and the whole staff are professional and friendly. This practice has years of dental expertise and southern hospitality. If your family needs a good dentist, go here.

Charles Cleary

I’m a veteran that just moved to the area. Most Doctors of any kind usually pass on providing care to veterans because of the horrible hassle in dealing with the V.A. Dr. Butler not only took me in, but was the best dentist I’ve ever been to with a staff that’s miles above any other. They are super nice folks, and truly care about the individual. They go to great lengths to make you comfortable, and take care of any and every need that you have!

Jon Fox

Very nice people

I am absolutely terrified of the dentist and had a horrible experience with high country dentistry and waited over a year to see another dentist and I'm so glad it was here!! Dr butler and his staff always make me feel extremely comfortable when it comes to my teeth and what they are doing. I recommend anyone who appreciates kindness and excellent care in or around Boone!

Tiera Icenhour

Awesome place and service. I trust him with my children and would recommend him to anyone.

From the time you walk in until the time you leave, you feel like family! I met Dr. Butler and his staff while attending ASU 2011-12. I had concerns with spacing after braces and my confidence was at a low. Dr. Butler carefully examined my case and recommended me for bonding and MTM (clear retainers for spacing). Each visit was/is a pleasure. Dr. Butler is kind and intelligent. The staff are all genuine, friendly and willing to answer any questions. You feel like your at home when you walk in. Phyllis handled most of my calls, emails and appointments and she is just wonderful. After completing the treatment nothing could wipe my smile away. Very pleased with MTM and bonding. After 4 years, I have moved over 2 hours away and began searching for a local dentist. I went to one visit elsewhere and right away, I knew nothing compared to Dr. Butler’s office. Phyllis was able to get me an appoint to that same week so a second opinion on a concern. The thoroughness and thoughtfulness of Dr. Butler is uncomparable in this area. Staff are all still amazing 4 years later. I have NOTHING but great things to say about Dr. Butler, Phyllis and each of his staff members. I will forever be thankful for them and there dedication to my smile! *Highly recommend for cleanings, MTM and bonding. Clean office. No hidden fees, over-charging and willing to work with students.

They told me for years that I’d be able to get my wisdom teeth taken out at 17, but on my last visit, they said “they’re not even close to ready” going off of the exact same x-rays they had looked at when they said they’d make an appointment 6 months out to get them taken out. They also ignored my drug allergies and gave me medication I was allergic to *every time* my mouth needed to be numbed. The receptionists are incredibly unprofessional. I went to Butler throughout my adolescence because I was covered by Medicaid and nowhere else in town would take new patients, then the last visit before I lost medical coverage the receptionists go on a rant about how awful universal healthcare would be... you know, the only way I would be able to be seen by a dentist in my adult life. I was then and still am years later, absolutely repulsed.

Kai Weaver

I have been looking for a dentist for a while and my boyfriend directed me to Dr. Butler. I got a tour of the office and such when I first went in and it was REALLY interesting, this also helped me get to know them and them get to know me! So I did the chat with the dentist and such and it was great. after the x-rays he told me the things I needed and we started working it all out. What I find really nice is that they will work with my wallet! I'm pretty straight forward about what I can and cannot do and they are all very understanding! I'm not pushed into anything and the way that we have been working the appointments out is the more urgent things first that I can afford! Also what is really nice is that the wait for the dentist is not very long! All around, I REALLY like this Dentist and all the people who work there and I would/have recommended them to a few of my friends! It's been a great experience and they really care about the patient! Especially if they have certain fears dealing with shots or other things of that sort! great place, friendly folks!

Long of the short: this guy scams people. Went in for a root canal. Simple. One tooth. Jerry comes back with a list of 10 other things that need to be done: mainly cavities. I was shocked. You see, I have been going to the same dentist my whole life, and if anything ever came up I would get the work done right away. Now for all the sudden a dozen of my teeth to be messed up and need work threw up a red flag. Either way I needed to root canal done so I had him do the first part of it and decided to wait to get it finished by my normal dentist. Fast forward a couple months and I end up in the hospital for a blood infection. An infection that my regular dentist figured out was from this root canal I got from Jerry. He screwed up and left an air pocket in my canal and it lead to a blood infection that put me in the hospital for a couple days. I have since talked to a few other people and they have said similar things: That they go in for one thing and Jerry, I refuse to call him a doctor, comes back with a list of things that also need work on. DO NOT GO TO THIS OFFICE. There are plenty of other dentists out there. Also found out his partner, younger guy, that works there, is also known in circles around Boone as shady.

Judy Davenport

To anyone who needs a dentist in the Boone area should go see Dr. Butler. Dr. Butler and his staff are great!! I have never had a dentist visit that was as enjoyable as today. Dr. Butler helped me smile again and for that I am very grateful.

Andrew Lambert

I've lived in boone my whole life and this is the best dentist in town by far

Wilson Icenhour

Mr. Butler went above and beyond the call of duty with the work he has done for me and my family. He helped me in times when he knew I could not afford to have done what I needed to have done and he did it because he cared about my health and wellbeing. As far as telling me what I was doing wrong and how to do it right, that is what you need a dentist for in the first place. If we were doing things right we wouldn't have to visit a dentist so evidently we need to be told. He and his staff are some of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of being drilled by, (Ha Ha), and if you didn't have a good experience with them than I would say you are one of those people that never have a good experience anywhere.

Laura Gordon

I have been going to Dr. Butler's office since about 2004. I have a cleaning a couple of times a year, have had a few procedures completed, and have been fitted with a TMJ device. Altogether, Dr. Butler, the dental hygienists, and office staff have always been kind, courteous, knowledgeable, effective, and efficient. The appointments are on time and the scheduling is easy. The location is also convenient. I have had only good experiences with them, and I highly recommend this office!
