Dr. Lewis-Heywood has treated my family of 6. She is very professional, patient and compassionate. She does her best to work with your dental anxiety. My daughter had to have some serious problems addressed, and the Dr was very kind to her...even had a special treat waiting for her on her 7th birthday when she came in for a follow up. The staff is always friendly and the office is spotless.

I used to visit this office when I lived in Albuquerque. Everything seemed fine at first, but then every visit ended in needing some work, fillings, crowns, root canals, unnecessary cosmetic fixes, etc. I spent $1000's. I feel duped, don't go here! **Edit to add, I was a patient of Dr Hayward/Heywood (don't remember the spelling, black woman with either African or Jamaican accent) from about 2009-2012. I got an email to review you after 7 years!!!! Which is why I ended up leaving this review.

I have been going here for dental services for about 2yrs. She charges if you cancel a appointment with in 24hrs. I have noticed that there are always different employees working with/under this dentist. She is EXTREMELY rough so if you are sensitive or can not open your mouth wide do not become a patient. She does come off as rude/Not to friendly(but in her defense she is not from this country). Other than that the office is always clean and its was close to where I live so convenient ...

I've been going to Riverside Dental for several years now but will never again. I had an appointment not too long ago and got the normal confirmation email but when I showed up to the appointment the office was closed! The confirmation email still have the old address and I was never informed that they had moved! I called and spoke to the doctor and got the new location and when I got there the staff at acted like it was my fault and they were inconvenienced. Once I got into the chair they told me that their system was down they couldn't look at my records. They had no idea if I needed x-rays to check my gum pockets or anything. It basically just seemed like they wanted my money so I left without doing the check up. Then a few weeks later I get a follow-up call from the dentist and she states I missed my appointment and need to reschedule! I will never ever go back to Riverside Dental!

I've called three days in a row. I've left my name and number on the voicemail and never received a call back. I finally went into the office today and sat for thirty minutes in front of an empty counter. Rang bell for service, but no one ever came out to greet me. I'm not sure how any new patients ever manage to make an appointment here. Very disappointing.

I had gone to this place for a few years. I was told almost all my teeth needed fillings. Got fillings in almost all my teeth and then at a routine cleaning the dentist tells me the fillings were poorly done and I needed to get crowns on several of my molars. I only continued to go because the hygienist was great. She quit due to the way the dentist treated the staff, in front of patients. Went to a new dentist who explained my x-rays to me in a way I understood and I do not need crowns but some of the fillings have to be redone.

WARNING: This dentist will diagnose you as needing to have more work done than is really necessary. I wish I had read these reviews before I went there, because Dr. Barbara Lewis-Heywood, while a nice person, has some serious problems running her business, which I think has left her needing more revenue, and she's bringing that in by over-diagnosing patients. She told me I needed to have fillings replaced just because they were silver, and I believed her. Consequently, I let her chisel down my tooth and put a crown on it, and now I have severe sensitivity there. The amount of work she created made me come back for four appointments within a few months so I got a good look at how she runs things. Her administration is very poor. My first visit was booked by a third party and when I showed up, she claimed my appointment wasn't for another month; to her credit she allowed me to get seen that day. It took me communicating three times to get her to correct my mailing address. After every visit, I'd get a mailing from the WRONG insurance company saying she had sent them a bill. When I'd bring this to her attention, she'd blame "the computer" and say my information was correct in the computer and she didn't know why it did that. During my second appointment, unlike the first, she demanded payment right after the service, so after my appointment she made another patient wait in the chair while she scrawled out the math for my bill on a post-it note. She was indignant when I asked her to run the bill through the insurance company. She took it personally, when I really just wanted to "trust but verify" her post-it note math. For the record, her math was correct, but her attitude and flippant remark, "I think I know what I'm doing," really just demonstrated to me that she's too proud to receive feedback and that's part of why her business is struggling. I'm sorry that I can't recommend this dentist. If you're like me and the military tries referring you here I recommend you request a different dentist.

After three years of going with my family and due to change of insurance and some miss understanding of apt with staff I came to found out really bad news about the work that was done by this office. My youngest started with two cavities on one side and never had x-rays because I was being told his mouth was to small then I came to found out that there was no reason to not have the x-rays done and if they would had taken time they would had found another two set of cavities on the back and now with my new dentist I had to pay 128.00. For my second son I was being told that he had some cavities that need to be redone but I found out that riverside made it worse and now with the new dentist I have to pay over 500 dollars to fix there mistakes. He had a spacer that need it to be taken off years ago and now it suddenly fall off and made his teeth worse. For my husband he had some feelings that riverside had been working threw out the three years we been there and same thing the few he had done wrong riverside made it worse now we need to 1773 dollars with our new dentist to fix the old feeling and some other stuff that should had been brought up and fix at the time. As for me i has my first cavity after several years and one feeling same thing I just pay as well because riverside went to deep and the feeling was not done correctly instead of having my tooth shape like one she did a square and now they can’t fix unless they take off and I get a new one. My family and I always thought the doctor there was to rough but teeth are very important to my family so I honeslty though it was ok as long it was being done correctly and I was trusting them for three years but came to found out by RioDental that nope there was no need of pain or discomfort. So please search around before making a apt here because in the long run you may be pain more money out of pocket for mistakes that could have been avoided.

Dr. Heywood was amazing. I hadn't been to a dentist in 2 years and she did my teeth cleaning and repaired missing fillings as well as buildups, root canal, and filing my teeth down. My teeth look great, feel great, and the staff and Dr. were friendly. Never in any pain during any procedures, would definitely recommend Dr. Heywood. Going to be going to her for all my future cleanings and dental needs.

If I could rate this office lower than a 1 I would rate it a negative rate. Riverside dental is not the place to go if you need any work done on your teeth. I heard about them by walking by their office. My mistake was not looking at reviews because if I did I would have chose not to come here. First off I had a cleaning done and X-rays taken. The dentist explains to me what I need to have done but says I would need to have my teeth extracted. So I proceeded to make an appointment for my fillings. I call in Friday to ask if she can complete the extractions in one session. She goes to tell me that she would have to refer me to an oral surgeon and she would call back with the referral. Monday comes around (day of initial scheduled fillings to be done) I call back to check on that referral I have been waiting since Friday and she tells me that the oral surgeon she first called did not accept my insurance and that she can look for another oral surgeon. Which really upset me because obviously if one surgeon doesn’t accept my insurance you automatically look for another surgeon that does and not wait until I call back again asking where that referral is. So then she tells me she has a referral and I need to come into the office to get that referral. About 45 minutes later she calls me asking where I am at and that she needs to start on my fillings. Which I canceled the appointment on Friday because I’m not comfortable having to go from dentist to dentist. In which within an hour I found another dentist that accepted my insurance and can extract all teeth in one session. I went into new dentist office and they requested the X-rays in which Dr. Heywood refused to release my medical documents which is illegal. And then asks me to pay a fee for missing the appointment I had already canceled. Which is also illegal being on Medicaid she cannot charge me a fee. She calls me the next day saying my new dentist requested X-rays and she would be happy to send them as soon as I paid her $42.97. Which she is not getting a single penny. I would definitely not recommend this dentist because clearly she has no problem performing medical malpractice in which can result in lawsuits. DO NOT TRUST DR. HEYWOOD.
