We took our two kids to this dentist. The hygienist was not very patient at all with the little ones. Dr Shaw was very blunt (actually a little rude) to us and was not patient with the little ones either. The kids loved the waiting room and decorations. Against our better judgement we scheduled an appointment to get one of the kid's cavities filled. At the appointment, the hygienist would not let a parent in the room with the 3 year old during the fillings. We asked to talk to Dr. Shaw. The hygienist went and got Dr. Shaw. Without discussing at all, she walked us to the front and told the receptionist to refund the money. We were in complete shock - we expected at least a conversation, explanation of policy, etc. We are also in complete disbelief that they don't allow parents to be with 3 year olds during fillings! Wow. We have since found a dentist (Dr. Steichen) who is amazing and had no issues whatsoever with a parent being in the room. He is very patient and goes at the kid's pace. Our kids love to go there.

Four years later and we are still seeing Dr. Shaw and the amazing support staff at ABQ Pediatric Dentistry! Hands down the best, most caring and compassionate dentists for kids. Dr. Shaw loves what she does and educates parents and kids on how to take care of your teeth. Marie and Danielle provide excellent costumer service and Denise is a loving dental hygienist. No worries about the kids going to the treatment area for fillings, the kids are safe and the Dr. needs to perform her work with the kids without them being distracted with parents present. Also, this time allows kids to build trust and know that the dentist isn't scary. My kids always come out with a smile and a Popsicle. They tell me "mommy, it was great!" We came for a second opinion on our daughters extensive treament from another dentist. Dr Shaw did her initial exam then reviewed the previous dentists treatment and was very thorough on her findings and was even able to show us exactly what she was explaining to us. Needless to say, Dr Shaw is about our daughters dental health, her well being, and not about making unnecessary treatment for the buck. Glad we were able to find Dr. Shaw!

We were optimistic about scheduling an appointment at this office, especially after speaking with the receptionist who was very friendly and able to get us an appointment for our 4 year old quicky. However, we were disappointed to learn the day of the appointment that this office has a policy against allowing parents staying with their children for procedures such as fillings. We were not made aware of this policy at the time we made the appointment, and subsequently cancelled. While we can understand the reasoning we were given for the policy, we do not feel a child (especially a 4 year old) would be able to advocate for themselves adequately if needed, and therefore should not be without parents. Leaving this review so that other like minded families are aware of this policy.

So many people I know have dental fears based upon their experience as children. This is an office where kids develop trust and feel comfortable about developing good dental hygiene. Dental assistants and Dr. Shaw are all friendly and patient. They explain what they will do before they do it. When my kids were young, they had minor cavities filled and my then 3 year old simply said that "they put cherries in my teeth." The games in the entry area are brilliant as they help build a positive experience about going to the dentist. I once even had to cancel an appointment last minute and the staff were very understanding about it. This is a great place to take your kids.

By far, the best dentist in Albuquerque. We have been going to Dr. Shaw for years. The office is a lot of fun for the kids, with video game for them to play while we wait. The staff is helpful and polite and if you listen to everything Dr. Shaw tells you, your kids will have healthy teeth that won't require a lot of dental work. She gives great advice! You would be crazy to take your kids to anyone else.

Several years ago it was time for my son to start seeing a dentist, on a recommendation I took my son to a different dentist, I was not impressed because of the poor service my son received, after that experience I searched the Internet for Pediatric Dentist and Dr. Shaw came up, I figured we'd try her out and I am SO glad we did! My son had to have teeth pulled, because his baby teeth weren't coming out on there own, Dr Shaws office staff informed me they had classes to show the children it wasn't going to be a scary thing...I was very impressed. The day we came for his teeth to be pulled was a little nerve raking, but when he was done, to my suprise, he was smiling, eating a fruit pop, carrying a toy and told me he "loved" his dentist. The office staff, hygienist and Dr Shaw are so pleasant, they explain everything and help put at ease concerned moms like myself. It's a breath of fresh air to have service like that in an age where customer service and bed side manner has been lost. I would and have recommended Dr Shaw to anyone in need of a Pediatric Dentist.

We had a visit at the dentist yesterday with my 3 year old son. I was a little apprehensive at first because he was scheduled to have two fillings done. From the moment we walked into Dr Shaw's office I was put to ease. Her front office staff explained everything fully regarding the insurance and our copay. The assistant that came to get our son was very friendly. He took her hand and went back to the exam room with barely a glance over his shoulder towards me. When his treatment was complete he came out smiling with a new toy and a frozen fruit pop that he was very excited about. I was so proud of him but more then that he was very proud of himself. It was much easier then I ever anticipated. Cavities are not fun but when you have a great pediatric dentist like we have found in Dr Shaw and her staff, they are not a problem. We will step it up with our hygiene and watching our son's juice intake but if treatment is ever needed in the future, it won't be a worry. Thanks Dr Shaw and Staff for another great experience in your office.

The office is nice and very kid-friendly, with several ipads in the waiting room for kids to play on. The hygienists are hit-or-miss. Of the three we've seen, one was probably good with more outgoing kids but completely overwhelmed my shy daughter. Another made no effort to tell our kids what she was going to do. The third was excellent and was the reason we continued to go to this practice for three years. The biggest drawback about this office is Dr. Shaw. For a pediatric dentist, I expected her to be very patient with the kids and help ease them through the unfamiliar experience of going to the dentist. Although the hygienist we saw most often was very patient with our daughters and explained all the procedures before she touched the kids, Dr. Shaw doesn't take as much time to prepare the children for what she is going to do. Also, she is very blunt with parents, almost to the point of being rude. After a very successful dental cleaning (requiring just a little bit of patience from the hygienist to make my 4-year-old daughter feel completely at ease), Dr. Shaw came in. She seemed impatient and, without preparing her for what was going to happen, asked my daughter to lay down. When my daughter didn't lay down immediately, Dr. Shaw attempted to lay her down, frightening my daughter and making the entire experience one of fear and distrust for the dentist. When we learned that my daughter needed a cavity filled, we decided it was time to find another dentist, since we wouldn't be allowed to accompany her into the procedure room to provide comfort during the filling. We won't be going back.

Great dental practice. The staff is always friendly, very efficient. My kiddo used to get really anxious during dental visits and would cry every time. I switched to Dr. Shaw's practice and I haven't had an issue at any of our visits. My youngest goes here also and both of my kiddos look forward to their dentist visits. Several years ago it was time for my son to start seeing a dentist, on a recommendation I took my son to a different dentist, I was not impressed because of the poor service my son received, after that experience I searched the Internet for Pediatric Dentist and Dr. Shaw came up, I figured we'd try her out and I am SO glad we did! My son had to have teeth pulled, because his baby teeth weren't coming out on there own, Dr Shaws office staff informed me they had classes to show the children it wasn't going to be a scary thing...I was very impressed. The day we came for his teeth to be pulled was a little nerve raking, but when he was done, to my suprise, he was smiling, eating a fruit pop, carrying a toy and told me he "loved" his dentist. The office staff, hygienist and Dr Shaw are so pleasant, they explain everything and help put at ease concerned moms like myself. We had a visit at the dentist yesterday with my 3 year old son. I was a little apprehensive at first because he was scheduled to have two fillings done. From the moment we walked into Dr Shaw's office I was put to ease. Her front office staff explained everything fully regarding the insurance and our copay. The assistant that came to get our son was very friendly. He took her hand and went back to the exam room with barely a glance over his shoulder towards me. When his treatment was complete he came out smiling with a new toy and a frozen fruit pop that he was very excited about. I was so proud of him but more then that he was very proud of himself. It was much easier then I ever anticipated. Cavities are not fun but when you have a great pediatric dentist like we have found in Dr Shaw and her staff, they are not a problem. We will step it up with our hygiene and watching our son's juice intake but if treatment is ever needed in the future, it won't be a worry. Thanks Dr Shaw and Staff for another great experience in your office.

My husband works at Sandia Labs and his coworkers all recommended Dr. Shaw when we needed a dentist for our first child, Sydney. She is open on Fridays, so it was easy for my husband to come to the appointment, and insurance covered the visit in full. I didn't think our daughter was going to open her mouth or sit still, but Dr. Shaw has such a way with children that everything went fine. We did schedule another appointment for Sydney in six months. I can easily see Dr. Shaw being her regular dentist until she is older.
