Your teeth are one of the most important chompers, dissolvers, masticators in your body and you need to take care of them. South Hills Dental does that, and helps you do better at that. Have had wonderful experiences with the talented dental nurses who have taught me a lot and are gentle in their probing. Great business, good sense, and very nice people.

I had a crown fall off at 4:50 p.m. on a Monday. Usually I wouldn't stress to much about this but I had to fly out at 6:00 a.m. the following morning. I immediately called the South Hills office in a panic and explained my situation. To my delight they asked how quick I could be there. I was greeted with their normal friendly demeanor and was immediately seen by Dr. Maes. Crisis diverted. It's great to know that they always have their clients best interest.

This place has the most unprofessional reception staff. For over a month they have lied to me about a refund. When I call they tell me it was mailed out so I wait an the following week it was just mailed out again always it was just mailed out again. I even went in in person an they lied an said it was sent says before now I call an they say they sent it the day I was in there .Dealing with these people is beyond frustrating. If you over pay while waiting for your insurance to settle up with them just kiss your money goodbye

Emergencies come in all different types and styles. I unfortunately had a front tooth that chipped badly and I needed an immediate repair. Dr. Joel got me in right away and the experience, from the front desk to the room and back, was awesome. Very professional and personable, and the work on my tooth was fantastic. My first visit was an emergency visit, and I was totally impressed with the entire staff! They worked me into the schedule the same day I called, for which I was very grateful. The front desk staff were warm and welcoming, and the medical staff were friendly, efficient, professional, and understanding. Since this was my first visit, his willingness to get to know me abit as a person was comforting as well as calming. Dr. Maes was very thorough and I was confident in the diagnosis and treatment. I had a horribly painful wisdom tooth this weekend, enough so that it kept me awake most of the night on Saturday and Sunday despite taking copious amounts of anti-inflammatories. I called South Hills first thing on Monday morning, 7:30 AM, to see what they had available. After explaining what was going on, the receptionist got me an appointment for later that morning. She did, however, explain that they often don't have the capability to pull wisdom teeth easily but that they should be able keep me comfortable until I can see the oral surgeon. Some relief was the only thing I need at the moment, so perfect. 5 stars so far. I get to the office a little early as requested to fill out some paperwork. Staff is friendly, helpful, and efficient. 5 stars. I see the doctor. He is friendly and after looking in my mouth and examining my x-rays determines that I have an infection around my lower left wisdom tooth. I am swollen and painful. He decides we should flush out the pocket with some antiseptic and then give me a referral to the oral surgeon. Great idea. The procedure was painful but necessary, and the doctor was careful not to prolong it while still being thorough. 5 stars. This is the 1 star part. It's time to leave. They send me with some antiseptic to rinse my mouth and a referral form. No oral antibiotic. No pain medication. I had made it clear both on the phone and in person how much pain I was in. Part of that is my fault. I should not have left that office without those prescriptions, but I shouldn't have to explain that to my doctor. I go back to work for the afternoon, and about an hour in I'm in excruciating pain radiating from my jaw up into my temple. People at work notice that the left side of my face is swollen. I go home, take some ibuprofen even though that hasn't helped much, and go to bed early. Two hours later, I wake up with more excruciating pain on that whole side of my face. I get up to ice it and take more ibuprofen. I am miserable for the next 3 hours. In that time, I call South Hills to express my disappointment and give them an opportunity to fix their mistake. I state that I want a pain medication called into my pharmacy the next morning so I can pick it up during my lunch break and maybe be a functional human for part of the day. I get a call part way through the morning saying they will not fill anything for me. They have referred me to the surgeon who will be taking care of my treatment for here on out. I call the surgeon's office. Their next appointment slot is August 19th, 20 days away. They will not fill anything for me in the meantime because I am not an established client yet (duh). The receptionist there asks if I am hurting. I explain that I'm taking way too much ibuprofen and have still not slept really for 3 nights. She says there might be an infection. I say it was diagnosed the day before. She says if there is swelling, I should go to urgent care. My face looks lopsided at this point. I tell her so. She is confused as to why I didn't get a pain medication and an antibiotic at my appointment the day before. So am I. The whole point of my appointment at South Hills was to keep me comfortable until I could see the oral surgeon. I paid almost $200 and they did not hold up their end of the deal. I gave them the opportunity to fix things and they ignored me. They are completely negligent. I do not recommend anybody come here for anything.

I had an excellent experience with the dentist at the office (thus why I gave 2 stars) but the entire experience with the billing has been a nightmare. I was very direct from the get-go that I had dental insurance and a flex plan I wanted to use, and that my flex won't reimburse until they have a EOB from the insurance, but also have a 90-day cut off after the end of the year to get flex claims placed or I lose the flex funds (use it or lose it). I had to call several times a month after my procedure, just to get them to bill my insurance. I stressed in these calls the importance of getting the claim submitted before my cut off, or I'd lose the funds I'd set aside in flex to pay it. Low and behold, they didnt submit it until after the cutoff, so my flex funds were lost and I had to pay out of pocket. I had even told them ahead that if such occurred, I'd have to make monthly payments. Then, I got a letter and call that monthly payments are unacceptable, so I had to pay in full. Since I loved the actual dental staff so much, I decided to still try to go back to them for the second part of the procedure, but asked that they submit a pre-authorization to my insurance to avoid the same issues. they wont submit it, nor return my calls. Long story short, if you don't have dental insurance (have to pay in full out of pocket same day anyway), then go here, because the actual dental staff is great!! If you have any insurance they need to bill, I do not recommend here, as they not only messed it up severely, but now won't return my calls or online messages, thus why I am compelled to write this, as I've now given them several chances and gone out of my way, and would hate to have this happen to someone else.

Simply the best. Best, most inclusive exam I've ever had. I've never sat in a dentist chair this long, but I've also never really had it this easy. I was assigned the best tech, she cared and was on top of her game, only surpassed by a great dentist, truly a great team. It was obvious in the beginning that my plan was designed with care, not only for what I needed at the moment, but what my mouth needed for the future, and I also saw how he passed on his profession. I am very afraid of going to the dentist, so much of my life I didn’t seek dental care. I’m 71 years old. After taking strong medication for a year I noticed my teeth breaking and crumbling. I went to two different dentists who recommended I get all my teeth pulled and just get dentures. They didn’t take my situation seriously and figured st my age there would be nothing to do anyway. I kept hoping for a different answer. The problem continued until most of my teeth had broken off, showed blackened gums, and I was in pain. And then I went to Dr. Joel Maes, Helena, South Hills Dental. He thoroughly examined my teeth, took x-rays, made a mold of my teeth so I could visualize my problem and gave me his recommendations. He said many of my teeth could be saved. He gave me a realistic plan for this process. He was the only dentist who took the time to seriously consider my options and he explained them in a way I could understand. His dentistry is an art. He is very compassionate and understanding. His staff is also gentle and supportive. I am very grateful I have Dr. Maes as my dentist. He’s an expert. His work is impeccable and I recommend him for anyone needing dental care. Dr Maes is amazing! I've always received very high quality work whenever I've needed crowns or fillings but recently I decided to have a lot of cosmetic work done on my front teeth to improve things I wasn't happy with. I'm a dental hygienist and we can be very picky :) but the end result was more than I thought possible. I love love my teeth now for the first time in my life!!! People don't usually connect a spa experience with the dentist, but here you get treated like royalty - warmed up blankets, personalized MP3 music, sunglasses (for spray), and the cheerfulest staff you will ever meet. Not only that, but the dental care they give is the best in the state, as shown by multiple awards. They anticipate problems and give thorough examinations and treatment for great preventative care. Their dental procedures have been flawless for me. You do pay a bit more for this level of care, but for healthy teeth and gums (and a non-traumatic dental experience) it is worth it.

I have had a fear of going to any dentist for quite some time. This was the first time I felt I could relax. I met my doctor today. His name is Paul Berry. He made me feel at ease with the tone of his voice. I am a 65 year old woman who retired from the U.S.ARMY. My fear is very real. My doctors have had to prescribe medication for me to take before going to the dentist's appointment. My anxiety will hit two days before my appointment. I am still fearful, however, my dentist has a calming personality. His helper explains everything. I have not ever felt this about a dentist before. If you have a fear of dentists. You need to get an appointment to see the doctors at this clinic. Both dentist and staff will make you feel like you just walked through the threshold of your own home.
