I had bone loss from a previous dentist doing a root canal such that the root snapped off after a few years. Previous dentists have told me not to worry about a bad healing process of that lost tooth. I could feel something was badly wrong. Doctor Karl Anderson said plainly that there was some granulotomous tissue that needed to be removed so I could heal. Doctor Karl Anderson cleaned out the dead tissue and replaced the lost bone with a bone graft. Now, I have a much better chance to heal the bone loss correctly this time. I already feel so much better.

In the past year I have started to view my health holistically. With dental health I came to understand that I did not want mercury amalgam fillings or root canals. An abscessed tooth sped up my time-frame to get my teeth worked on, and after some research I found Dr. Anderson. At my initial exam I was pleased to find out that Dr. Anderson was very knowledgeable about a holistic approach to health, and I was grateful with how much time he gave me discussing my dental health and my treatment options. I have started the process of replacing mercury amalgam fillings with composite fillings, and it is my observation that Dr. Anderson follows the safety procedures suggested by Dr. Mercola in his online article "How to Find a Biological Dentist that Can Treat You Holistically." The replacements went smoothly and the new fillings look like my natural teeth. The abscessed tooth came out with very little pain at the office. Afterwards, with ibuprofen the pain was minimal, but then the blood clot came out on the second day (my fault). The pain since then hasn’t been too bad, but I'm pretty sure it would have been less if I would have followed the instructions more carefully. I’m five days out from the extraction and it seems to be healing well. I would definitely recommend Dr. Anderson. He has 35 years of experience and it shows in his work. It is clear that he still enjoys being a dentist and that he cares about the people he works on. To top it off, his staff has been friendly and very helpful.

11/30/17 I had a filling coming out so I saw Dr. Karl Peterson today and he is excellent, along with the support staff. A+ for the for the visit. As always everyone is very nice and friendly. Have been going there for 40+ years. Prior date: I have a toothache tonight and thought I would check out this site. A little history behind this review, my daughter (who also is a patient, along with her kids), was born today 37 years ago. I remember this because this is when we started coming to Sedation & Implant Dentistry. 1977 was the year and our family has been with Dr. Karl ever since. Yes, I have to admit when we first started, we saw Dr. Karl's dad but everyone there has been great over the years! What has changed, besides the location, is that the office keeps up with current technology of dentistry and they have always been very attentive to the needs of the client. It is a great place to go and they will take good care of you. I will keep you posted on my toothache, I am just hoping that they can get me in tomorrow. :)

We don't have a holistic dentist in Rochester, MN but an hour drive to get rid of my mercury amalgam fillings under the care of someone who truly understands the impact of toxic materials is worth my time and money. There aren't that many dentists in the State of MN that are holistic, maybe 8, and the reason I chose Dr. Karl Anderson is because he is a member of the IAOMT, his website is easy to navigate, he has equipment to preserve as much tooth as possible and to protect patient and staff of mercury vapors, his prices are reasonable, he has a Masters in gum disease, and he's attuned to nutritional health. My wife went to a consultation appointment with Dr. Anderson and I went in and sat with her (she panics at the dentist). During the entire appointment Dr. Anderson would only talk to me, he wouldn't even look at my wife. When she went in for her first procedural appointment, Dr. Anderson didn't say a word to her, not 'hello' or anything. My wife tried to raise some of her concerns, but was quickly brushed aside. Then Dr. Anderson tried to start the procedure before her sedation kicked in. The whole reason we went to this clinic was because of the sedation. My wife panicked, and pushed the needle he was holding away from her face (you would think a sedation dentist would realize that holding a needle right by the eye of a person who is not sedated yet and has repeatedly told you of her panic attacks at the dentist is a bad idea). Dr. Anderson just said "get her out of here, I'm not doing this today". Even then, he still wouldn't say a word to her. Dr. Anderson is a sexist bully with a horrible bedside manner. If there is ANY other dentist you could go to, go. Avoid this clinic if you can. I wish I could give negative stars.

Great experience for those with dental work anxiety! As most can attest, bad dental experiences are far too frequent. I was hesitant about finding a dentist and I've had some nightmares. With their online registration as a new patient, it allows you to just lay it all out there, i.e., fears, concerns, issues, etc. I went in this morning for my first check-up. It was clear they read my information prior to and consistently asked me if I was comfortable, what they were doing next, asked how I was doing at every turn, and were absolutely non-judgmental. The important take home here: They were genuine and clearly very considerate of their patients concerns and needs. I have never rated a dentist before and decided to take that extra step because of my experience. I hope this helps those in the future!

This a truly great dentist. The staff is friendly and considerate, and the doctor knows what he's doing. I got the impression that they were not interested in selling me anything but only in providing me with the best treatment for me. Not only that, but they were also sympathetic to my desire for a more holistic approach to dentistry, which is not available at other dentists. The work done was geared toward what I wanted, and it was done very quickly and well, with no pain whatsoever. Believe it or not, I came all the way from Wisconsin to see Dr. Anderson. Words can't hardly describe the level of gratitude for Dr. Karl and what he has done for me. A little history to prove the point. Three years ago, at 38 years of age, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I had a breast surgery and invasive surgery under my arm to take out the majority of my lymph nodes to remove the cancer. Around that same time, I had an old infected root canal taken out. I then developed chronic, constant nerve pain under my right arm. This pain affected all areas of my life. I had this pain constantly for more than three years. I sought out many different treatments but none were effective. Dr. Karl took a 3D image of my mouth and jaw and found out that there had been a root tip left in the jaw area on that right side with infection and cavitation present. I had this surgery on a Thursday and on Monday I was crying tears of joy because the pain under my arm wasn't t there!!! The pain under my arm is related to the infection in my jaw! WHO KNEW???? Instead of having pain every day, constantly, I now only have pain 2-3 days a week and I am hoping that with continued treatment from Dr. Karl, hopefully the pain will subside completely!!! Dr. Karl knows that mouth health has EVERYTHING to do with whole body health! And he proved that to me that day! Thank you Dr. Karl for putting this all together!!! Can you imagine the years of pain that you have prevented? My heart is forever grateful.

Receptionists, my hygienist 'La' and Dr. Petersen were so bright, happy and answered my (many) questions thoroughly. I was looking for a holistic dentist that could remove the metal in my mouth and restore my health from failed root canals with non metal implants. I had the metal fillings removed 8 years ago and replaced with Ceramic fillings.I am currently getting an implant on a failed root canal that was constantly flaring up.Good dental health makes for a healthier body over all. Front desk lady (Maria) is extremely rude, unprofessional, and lacks customer service skills and basic decency. It’s like she has a stick up her... every single time! She should get rid of her polish condescending demeanor. Also, Had to wait 3 months to get into their consult after paying the consult fee as part of a package deal. I am shocked at the lack of professionalism I was met with at this office. Dr. Anderson is a competent dentist, but my service experience was FAR from superior. I asked for a treatment plan TWICE but never received one. I didn't find out the cost of services or even how many fillings had been completed until 2 MONTHS after my last appt when I finally received my final invoice and still had to call for an itemized list of services. When I complained to Dr. Anderson, I was met with indifference. He just asked, "What is it you WANT?" He offered to remove 1 disputed fee (of 2) and put me through to the front to pay my bill without any interest in hearing my full complaint. The woman I then spoke to accused me of trying to get out of paying my bill when I asked if I could make 2 payments (half today and rest in 30 days). She said, "You knew exactly what your charges were and now you're saying you don't have the money!" When I told the manager I was disappointed by how I was treated (and paid my outstanding balance in FULL), she said " I'm surprised the [fee in dispute] was never mentioned in any of the conversations I've had with [them]." That it was MY responsibility to find out what my charges would've been (even though I had asked them TWICE). I did not receive a single "I'm sorry this happened" or "Next time, we'll..." from Dr. Anderson or the office manager. She and Dr. Anderson also made a point in explaining they were gracious enough to accept my discount plan, even though they don't normally accept that coverage. They had told me they would not accept my plan when I first made an appt. But, when I later said I would have to complete my work with a different dentist they told me, that because I was an existing patient they would now accept my plan. They just don't accept it for NEW patients. ...I had only been a patient for about 2 weeks at that point. At the time I felt this was unprofessional and a little suspicious, but was grateful I wouldn't have to seek another dentist. I didn't realize they were "going out of their way" for me. While I understand they probably get illegitimate complaints about billing on a regular basis, I never once complained about the payments I made while in-office, nor was complaining about the cost of the work I had done. I was only complaining about the extra fee (x2, which was not previously disclosed) and that I was completely left in the dark about how much my treatment would cost in the end. I've since looked at their other negative reviews (on other sites) and while they are few, they seem to relate to dispute settlements.

My implant is chronically infected because the implant was placed too far inward and my buccal gums collapsed. Doctor Karl Anderson left for Africa without doing the 10 day post-operation checkup to see if I was ok. A bad infection developed. The Joker said to just yank it out. Doctor Karl Anderson = Monster. Finally, a HealthPartners Periodontist fixed the flub and performed a gum graft but unfortunately I still have constant infection problems. The HealthPartners Periodontist said that a removal requires huge chunks of my jaw to be removed because the Ceraroot implant is a wedge-type implant that does not "just unscrew".

I went to one dentist from the point I had teeth through my 20's. With changes in insurance and residence, it was no longer practical to go there anymore. I went through a prolonged period of no dentists/bad dentists until finally stumbling upon Sedation & Implant Dentistry a mere 3 miles from my front door. I have been going here for several years now and have experienced everything from routine cleanings to crowns. They have fixed bad work performed by others and sent me to specialists when they couldn't handle a one off that needed help. Yes, I have horrible teeth. Thanks for the genes, parents. The hygienists and doctors have all been extremely kind, caring and usually quite funny. It seems like they always do their best to get me in and out in as little time as possible and keep me informed of what they're doing when my jaw is pried open. It's very assuring to know that I again have a dentist I can trust and recommend after years of not having that feeling.

I am very dental phobic, the dentist is my kryptonite. However, this is the first Dentist that listened to me and totally understood my fears. Not that it made it all better, but at least I didn't get the roll of the eyes and heavy sighs. They were so genuinely kind and actually got me from crying to laughing. The biggest plus was allowing me to decide my procedure and not telling me what they were going to do, they gave me a choice. They also cover the financial aspect, like most people I have never had dental insurance, it's nice not to be stressed to the max and then strapped with a huge bill to boot. They really care and have options that don't leave you depressed about how you are going to pay. Most that know me know I would never give 5 stars to a Dentist, but they really took good care of me after not being to the Dentist in 7 years & on top of that I had to have a tooth pulled. My fears are still there but have to give them credit they understand your phobia and take good care of you; I will be back and it won't be another 7 years.

I was very sick with cerebellum vertigo and had 7 infections in my mouth . I am thanking God everyday for all the help at Sedation & Implant Dentisty with the right protocols to gain wellness . My vertigo ended with the removal of these teeth two weeks after . I feel better having safe removal of mercury fillings done at this dentistry ! Very professional caring staff and dentists . Today I came in after seeing Dr Anderson 2 almost 3 months ago. I had a horrible chipped tooth on both sides of my mouth after eating something with metal in it from McDonald’s. It took 2 almost 3 weeks to just see him the first time. On the day he looked over my teeth he said we could take over everything in steps got me all excited. I was just ready for the constant mind throbbing pain to be over as soon as possible. I leave that day they they tell me they will email me for the next appointment. I finally get the email a few days later with a plan laid out I’m all excited until I see it’s nearly 3 months from now. I try to call around and what not to get in sooner for sedation dentistry and not many have openings. So I told my self I could tough it outb. Alll those months go by my teeth are in constant pain I can chew. I cap to try to figure out something different all they tell me is he is away on a trip far away. Then finally today October 10th it is my appointment I’m so excited. I head to the offfice get there on time go back in the seat. And everyone is flustered. Some how there wasont enough time scheduled to do my appointment. Then they start talking about how they can get an IV in me with out even trying once or twice. Then they just kind of throw up there hands and go Nothing we can do. And they just let us leave trying to give us other numbers for dentist out there.... I’m beyond hurt and not only that but in pain. I’ve always thought the dentist and doctors are there to protect and make better. Seems more like a cop out. Now I sit here not even knowing what to do as far as moving on. I just wish I could of taken back all that time in pain waiting for there help.

I started seeing Dr. Anderson back in 2014 and he has done so much for me I can't even thank him enough for getting all the metal fillings out of my mouth. They were causing me so much pain and distress. Unlike other dentists, he believed me. I've been sensitive to metals since I was a kid and I had a whole mouth full of them by the time I saw Dr. Anderson. The Clifford test showed I was not only reacting to the mercury but all the other alloy metals in the filings. Two had already broke my teeth and I had to have them extracted before seeing him :( I have had several pain issues in my mouth and jaw and so far it seems like we are all on the right track to the root of those. It is great to have doctors who want to work with you to understand your issues and help you to resolve them, even when they are super busy. Dr. Anderson and Dr. Peterson have worked together as a great team in helping me to understand all my pains in my face and mouth. They have also developed plans to correct this and I am so excited to be pain free eventually. I have had a lot of dental work done, mostly in the military in my later teens/early 20's and it has been a long haul. To be pain free though just sounds amazing! I didn't realize all the pain I was feeling in my joints through my whole body and spine were all connected to my chewing. After not chewing for a few days now I am starting to feel all my muscles throughout my whole body relax and it is amazing! This was an idea I had to see just how much my jaw and teeth were bothering me from chewing. I forgot what that relaxation felt like to be honest, it's been so long. I can see a difference in the shape of my face and jaw. I look like I'm glowing! I never thought my chewing was affecting my spinal alignment either but wow! My energy levels have even increased and I feel more euphoric. I can't wait to talk to my chiropractor next week to finally make a treatment plan and tell him what I have learned about my spine throughout this process working with Dr. Anderson and Dr. Peterson! The whole body is connected, that is why I really hold Dr. Anderson in high regards, he is a dentist but so much more. He understands this and is continually growing and developing new ways to do his work even better( If that is possible)! Not only does he know how to modify/restore the physical teeth themselves but he understands how to strengthen them from the inside out and help to restore wellness to a person. I started seeing Dr. Peterson because Dr. Anderson was away and he had the patience to sit and try to figure out what my discomfort was from in my lower jaw. In just a couple visits he had realized that I may have something more than just TMJ with my jaw and was able to connect the dots to what my issue was. Not only was he able to figure out my issue, he was also able to offer a perfect solution and educate me as to why it was a good option. I just feel so lucky to have two dentists in one place that are just so smart and committed to their patients. Dr. Anderson is not a dentist, but rather a facilitator of healing. I had a horrible experience at some dental office in Blaine, the only good thing that came out of it was that the person working at the front desk knew I was very displeased and actually referred me to another dentist. That is how I found Sedation & Implant Dentistry. From the first contact I knew I would be in good hands. They are very forthcoming & clear about costs, discounts, procedures, options, and details. I had 13 amalgams removed and replaced by composites. It was done safely and painlessly. I had one tooth that was un-salvageable because it was dying, I chose to have the tooth removed & I was very pleased Dr. Anderson could put in a metal-free implant. I couldn't be happier, it feels like it's my own natural tooth. Dr. Anderson is very efficient and does an excellent job. His staff is always kind, welcoming, informative & attentive. I called yesterday to see if I could get an appointment for a broken tooth that likely needed extraction. I have been getting my teeth cleaned at this place for the last five years because Dara did a great job. However, I will not be returning because Dr Anderson performed the worst tooth extraction. I have never met him before. He didn't introduce himself. He was abrupt and rushed. My toothache was due to a cavity fill that they had drilled too deep. I was in pain all weekend only to have Dr Anderson not believing it was that tooth. He pounded soo hard on my infected tooth! I yelled. Then he tried to pawn of the guilt on me by saying I ate too much candy as a kid. He extracted the tooth left. Then to add insult to injury the next day I came down strep throat and pneumonia!

Dr. Anderson and the entire staff at Sedation & Implant Dentistry were truly exceptional. I had been experiencing excruciating pain in my neck and shoulders for several months. I was also feeling very tired all of the time. I am a yoga teacher, so this is not my "normal". I had come to Sedation (my first visit) for a consultation on an implant and an exam. During the checkup they found that I had a severe abscess on one of my back molars. Dr. Anderson removed the molar immediately. I was very impressed by his knowledge and his concern. I live in northern minnesota, about 4 hours from the office, and they took wonderful care of me and gave me great instructions for caring for the tooth, so that I would get home safely. This morning I woke up with NO PAIN in my shoulders or neck! I also feel my normal energy coming back again and I am extremely grateful to Dr. Anderson and his staff. I will be returning for my implant and further dental work. The 4 hour drive is well worth it!
