I've been going to Great Hill in Somerville for almost three years now. I previously went to Harvard Vanguard Dental in Kenmore since I was a child but my hygienist quit :(. The Somerville location is easy to get to, has plenty of parking, staff come to get you out of the waiting room very quick, and reception is always nice. I did not like the first hygienist I saw but after having a different hygienist recommended, I don't have any complaints. I see Kim and she's great! As long as you have dental insurance that is accepted here you really shouldn't have any problems. Though the insurance provided through my job is not accepted here, in my opinion it's worth it to pay for alternative insurance that is accepted. I've tried other dental practices and was very unsatisfied. I'll be sticking with this Great Hill location for a long time.

I've had some work done by Dr. Michalowski, and I had a wonderful experience. He described the process and made sure I was fine with the procedure before proceeding. ok I'll try and keep this short and sweet... I'm a new patient. I was extremely nervous, I knew I needed a lot of work done and was worried about pain and cost... Ill start by saying the office and patient rooms are extremely clean. The young ladies at the front were extremely nice and helpful. I was greeted by an assistant I believe her name was Flora. She was very kind and gentle while taking my ex rays. She made me feel comfortable during my visit. I then met Dr. Michalowski, who was extremely nice. He went over every tooth with me and provided me with a mirror, so he can show me as he explained everything. He explained everything so well it was like I was taking a class lol. He addressed all my questions and then performed my cleaning. He was gentle and caring throughout the whole process. The administration team then went over my treatment plan and insurance coverage and out of pocket cost. It was the best dental experience I personally ever had. Trust me I have had some pretty bad experiences. So much for short and sweet. Hope this was helpful... To the Great Hill Dental Staff Thank you

The atmosphere of the office is welcoming and the staff tends to your needs without hesitation. My sister hates the dentist, she is 13 but she cries when she sees the appointment card on the refrigerator ! It's that bad! She saw Dr. Thaker and did all her dental work without panicking. She said she would go back to see her because she was gentle and it didn't hurt as much. Dr. Thaker seems serious at first but you can tell she knows what she is doing. We are just happy to find an office she likes.

I’ve been coming here for a couple years and it’s by far the best dental group I’ve found in the Boston Area! Dr. Michalowski is great- very efficient but also thorough and to the point. The dental assistants are all very friendly too and do great cleanings. All around great staff and are super helpful about getting quotes and scheduling last minute appointments. I would definitely recommend coming here.

I have worked with many of the dentists and assistants within Great Hill Dental and have had very positive experiences. Most recently Dr. Bahadoran has been working with me for a year and a half on Invisaligner Treatment. She has been absolutely wonderful. I self admit I am not the easiest dental patient and she has really been super helpful and encouraging throughout the whole process. My whole family goes to Great Hill and even my four year old daughter still gets excited to go to the dentist, it's one of her favorite places!

On December 8, 2015, I called Great Hill Dental Partners in Somerville and stated I would like a Dental cleaning. I was very clear that I have my own dentist elsewhere, who has recently treated me, and that I did not need dental services, that I just wanted a cleaning. I explained that my own dentist was unable to fit me in for a cleaning, so that was why I was looking elsewhere for a cleaning. I was told that was fine and an appointment was scheduled for Dec.10. Then I filled out detailed on-line pre-registration forms where I stated the same thing, I only wanted a cleaning, and I did not want or need dental treatment. Then I came in for my appointment, and of course, I filled out more forms. Then I met my hygienist and went with her in her office, and hung up my coat and bag. THEN the hygienist told me that she could not do a cleaning on me, unless I agreed to X-rays and an exam by the dentist. I explained I had my own dentist, and that had made an appointment solely for the purposes of having a cleaning. The hygienist left and returned with the office manager, who repeated the same thing. Fernanda, the office manager, stated that this was “for my own good,” that they would not be able to treat me as a patient, without being seen by a dentist. I had stated from the beginning that I have my own dentist elsewhere, and that I only wanted a cleaning. So I was refused the service that I asked for, and that I had been promised. I am not sure how this is “for my own good.” The Great Hill Dental Partners office had many opportunities to tell me that they would not or could not give me the service I specifically asked for, before I took the time to visit in person. It is possible that they have some skilled dentists and hygienists at this office, but given the dishonest and patronizing treatment I received from the staff, I cannot recommend this office. If this is the company policy, I cannot recommend the company.

I only have positive remarks for this facility and Dr. Bahadoran. I had a complicated case that required a coordinated effort from an oral surgeon at MGH and I was very impressed and touched that Dr. Bahadoran cared so much to call him, text me and coordinate the best route of care. Even after moving to Canada, I still made trips to come back to see her because I just didn't trust anyone else to do the job. I just got my braces off and I couldn't be happier with the results; she had to clean up someone else's mess and I ended up having to wear braces twice. I felt very self conscious about it (I'm 25), but I was surprised by how compassionate Dr. Bahadoran was and how she listened to my needs, thoughts and questions and answered all of them with honestly and informative facts. If you're looking for an orthodontist, look no further.

I have been a patient for several years and have had the best dental care. Melat is my hygienist and she is always very thorough. The reminders to keep up with flossing has helped me to do a better job between visits. Dr. Michalowski is my dentist and he filled a chipped tooth about a year ago, answering all my questions and did a great job. The tooth feels just like any other tooth in my mouth and have had no problems.

I had a poor experience with Great Hill Dental Somerville. I tried them out after moving to the area and was very disappointed 1)with their concern for my comfort 2)with their technology and 3)with their misinformation about the cost and billing. I would recommend finding another dentist. 1) I came in for a cleaning and then had to get a filling. I've had fillings before and this was by far the most uncomfortable experience I've had during one. Neither the dentist nor the assistant asked me if I was comfortable or could feel anything during it. I could feel the pressure of their drilling the entire time. 2) Their technology is not as advanced as other offices I've been to. It is obvious that their office and tools could use an update- this would also contribute to problem #1. 3) I asked ahead of time if they accepted my coverage. They told me yes. When they forced me to get x-rays (otherwise apparently they could not care for me), they checked my insurance and again told me I would be fully covered. When I checked out after my filling, they told me I owed nothing. Months later I a notice that I owed $500+. They didn't even send me a breakdown of the charges! I was very upset and it put me in a tight spot. DO NOT trust them. They do not care about you. Just your money. It is unfair to the patients to do this to them. Find a trustworthy, caring dentist. Great Hill is not it.

. I have had a great experience for many years with the dentists, hygienists, and staff here. All my care is in one place and I have found each dentist supports the work of the others for my benefit. For example, I need to get some crowns replaced but I also needed a periodontal procedure . In order to make best use of my insurance we took care of one thing first and will address the other in January. After that procedure I got a call from the doctor asking how I was doing. I get texts (my choice) to remind me of appointments with the link to confirm the appointment imbedded. Others have mentioned the clean, neat, up to date office that is right next to the Davis Sq T stop. I still can't say I love going to the dentist but of all the dental care I have had, these folks are the best.

I highly recommend Great Hill Dental Partners because the doctors and staff are awesome! I am so pleased with the orthodontic care my 15 year old daughter is receiving from Dr. Bahadoran and her staff. Dr. Bahadoran cares about her patients and takes the time to explain each procedure. You never feel rushed. She is a perfectionist and makes sure you are happy with the results. Another reason I appreciate Great Hill Dental Partners is because they don't try to upsell unnecessary treatments to make an extra profit. They disclose all available treatment options and price points. I'm impressed with the quality of care and I think you will be too.

Also had a great experience with the Somerville orthodontic team - Dr Milan Doshi (now relocated to the Greater Chicago area) started treatment, and Dr Mahshid Bahadoran handled all my refinements. Highly recommend for both specialty and general treatment.

My last visit with the professionals went well but after few weeks I was hit by a big bill for things which was not explained to me when the intervention was done. I attempted to resolve it by contacting the practice manager but I was told billing is set by different department and my insurance doesn't cover the procedure. I wish I was told before the procedure so that I can decide to do it or not.I voiced my concern regarding the unethical billing practice to the manager with no sucess. As a longterm client I feel I was not supported, particularly about the unethical billing issues and I hope the administration will address this.

I just got done with my second root canal, courtesy of Dr. Shivji, and she is truly a top-notch specialist. I'm a bit of a nervous wreck when it comes to anything remotely surgical, so it's truly a testament to her calm demeanor when I'm laughing at her jokes in the middle of a root canal. She has a way of making you feel heard and in-control throughout the whole procedure; always sure to ask if you need anything, feel pain, or are just generally O.K. One of the most striking things about Dr. Shivji is her ability to instill confidence in her patients. (As a nervous wreck, it's important that I'm confident that you know what you're doing. I generally pick up on self-doubt very easily). I knew, as soon as I met her and she began the procedure, that I was in superb hands. She's confident, self-assured, reassuring, kind, patient and professional. I even met Caitlin The regional manger for GHD when I went to my favorite coffee place immediately after (small world) and gushed about what a great experience Dr. Shivji was able to provide.

My wife just had a pretty ambiguous experience with Great Hill Dental Partners. We cannot help thinking the company is very much optimizing for their financial benefit. My wife went for an initial examination, which resulted in some recommendations on required treatments. While some of those recommendations already looked like they may not be necessary my wife asked them to calculate the maximum reimbursable treatments for the year. A pretty straight forward exercise given all our visits had been to Great Hill Dentists. To our big surprise Great Hill Dentists came back to us after the treatments and asked for substantially higher payments based on our insurance being maxed out. What's worse Great Hill Dental tried pushing the blame onto the insurance, when it turned out that they had made a very basic mistake in their own calculations (i.e. not having taken into account our previous visit with them). Not only did they not apologize for their mistake, they also did not really seem to care about us moving on to a new dental care provider. In conclusion, I can't really recommend them.

Everyone is very friendly and accommodating - one of my fillings fell out and they were able to get me in the same day. Dr. Epstein- who went to Tufts and is therefore in the know - did an excellent job and is also an excellent explainer, for those who usually don't often even know what's going on in their mouths. This location is extremely unprofessional. The front desk staff are lazy and will deliberately omit information regarding billing. When i called to schedule appointment that representative told me that they accepted my coverage. I later found out that though they accepted my coverage they were not in network. I've witnessed patients come into their office livid, yelling about how procedures were not billed to their insurance and or how it was not explained that their insurance didnt cover it now they are stuck paying a large bill. The front desk staff laugh and giggle. They treat the occurrences as if they at a comedy show instead of actually assisting the patient/customer. If you choose to do business with this location, make sure that you request a pre-estimate to be submitted to your insurance to make sure your not stuck with large bill after the procedure I completed Xrays there. There was one tooth that they hygienist named FLORA appeared to be concerned about, she asked another dentist to step in and have a look. He looked and asked me if i was feeling any pain there, I said no. He did not believe me so he proceeded to ruffly bang on my tooth with the end of one the cleaning instrument...VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! I had a couple of fillings put in with Dr. MICHALOWSKI, The fillings were fine however during the filling procedure both he and the hygienist assisting him, ROSA were having a discussion about other staff members, which the Rosa seemed to be upset by...I was treated like I wasn't even the room hearing the convo even though they working my teeth. I must say, in spite of this experience, ROSA is very nice. She would always smile and say hello when i saw her at my office visits. The Periodontist Dr. Goodman did a poor job on my deep cleaning, He completely avoiding cleaning one area of my teeth where I have a double tooth, and the gum there desperately needed cleaning. He also did not use the tools needed for a thorough cleaning of the gums, He should have used sonic or an ultra sonic scaling tool to clean the pockets at my gum line but he only use hand held scrapping tools. Thankfully because ive completed thorough cleaning before a different dental office I knew that he was doing the bare minimum service with my cleanings so I purchased tools of my own to do the best cleanings I could do for myself at home. The final straw was my last cleaning with the hygienist FLORA, which i was running late to. I apologized once I arrived, and was grateful when she still agreed to see me, however during the cleaning she attempted to lecture me about being on time in a way that I was not comfortable with. I told her that I had already apologized and had not planned on being late for the appointment... we proceeded with the cleaning, twice during the cleaning she sprayed a tooth that I told her was sensitive with cold water. I kinda got the feeling that she did it on purpose because she was upset with my response to her attempted lecture about the tardiness. She did offer me two sample sizes of the toothpaste that assist with sensitivity afterward. This location is a mess. I would not recommend doing business with them.

I've gone to this practice, and specifically Dr. Michaelowski, for about 10 years now, since they were still part of Harvard Vanguard - he is an excellent dentist (and a nice guy), and while I have seen a number of different hygienists, they have all done an excellent job. They do currently have one problem, however. When they had to leave Harvard Vanguard, they failed to make an arrangement with the building to allow for their patients to park in the building garage. While there is also a municipal lot next to them which is supposedly reasonably priced and should be adequate, the City of Somerville does an AWFUL job - the meters are often broken, and their signs contradict each other as to whether they accept various forms of payment. The only part of the system that seems to work is their ability to generate parking tickets, thus adding $30+ to the cost of your visit. The practice needs to either make an arrangement with the building or get the municipality to shape up, and then to notify their patient base (perhaps on-line) of the resolution. Without one of those, serious questions are raised regarding future use of the practice despite its good dentistry.

I have nothing but good things to say about Great Hill Dental. I receive all my dental care here (general dentistry and orthodontics). All the staff that I have interacted with from the front desk secretaries, to the dental hygienists, and the dental assistants have been nothing but friendly and professional. They know me by name and always do a great job answering any and all questions I have about my care. I am especially grateful for the excellent work that my orthodontist, Dr. Mahshid Bahadoran, did with my orthodontic work. My case was especially difficult in that I had a notable underbite (of which I was a candidate for oral maxillofacial surgery) and a lot of spacing. I was able to avoid surgery working with Dr. Bahadoran, as she did an exceptional job correcting these issues and leaving me with a beautiful smile. Overall, I highly recommend this practice with no reservations!

I have had a lot of dental work done here the last 3-4 years and I have nothing but good things to say about this place and the dentists and staff here. I'm overdue for giving them a review, so here we go. Genetic factors including a small mouth, crowded teeth and severe dental procedure anxiety do not make me an easy patient as much as I try, but the level of professionalism and understanding is wonderful here! The front of house staff is efficient, and caring, making it easy to book appointments and they knowledgeably explain bills and treatment plans. I have not had the experience of being up sold anything- if they say I need a procedure or a treatment done here, it's because I do. The dental hygienists are professional and are really good about telling you what they're doing, what to expect on your visit, and providing care. I have to give a shout out individually to the dentists I've worked with: For braces you *need* to work with Dr. Mahshid Bahadoran. I worked with her over about 2.5 years and I cannot say enough wonderful things about her care. I was in my late 30's with stubborn teeth that didn't want to move. I was chipping and breaking my front teeth monthly due to their misalignment and was really uncomfortable with how they looked. While the braces process sucks, she coaxed my teeth into a good alignment and I've not had any chips or problems with my bite since. She's very patient, caring, really listens and she really wants to do the very best job for you and what you need. For general care, I work with Dr. Richard Michalowski. He's knowledgeable, good at explaining what's going on, and while he may seem a little brusque and doesn't sugar-coat things, I appreciate his no-nonsense approach. He's efficient, thorough and doesn't waste your time. When I expressed my concerns over my upcoming root canal (more on that in a second), he listened and told me what the procedure was, and even prescribed me a small dose of an anti-anxiety medication to take as I wanted and needed for the procedure (I mentioned the several dental procedure anxiety right?) For a root canal, I highly recommend Dr.Aliyah Shivji. I had my first ever one this morning (I'm still really sore as I write this), and believe me she deserves a gold star after this procedure! She started by asking me questions, listening to my concerns and giving me advice on how best to handle my anxiety. I came back later for the procedure, anti-anxiety medicine taken and headphones and podcasts to distract me ready. When injecting the Novocaine, she does a really helpful countdown so you know exactly how much longer you need to deal with it. She tried using a moderately sized bite guard, but between the position of the tooth (way in the back on the bottom) and the fact that my mouth is, as previously mentioned, small, I kept breaking the instruments because she couldn't get the right angle. We finally had to use a really large bite guard and she really did her best to make it as quick and as painless as she could. It was traumatic (remember that dental procedure anxiety I mentioned?), but she and her assistant really did the best they could to make me comfortable, check on me and help me out. It's a sucktastic procedure in general but they made it bearable. All in all, I go to Greater Hill Dental because the care here is top notch and I trust them to deal with my special considerations. Going to the dentist is not fun, ever, but here they make it as best an experience as they can.

I just moved from Asia and came here because I also go to HVMA and it was convenient (also my PCP recommended I get a checkup each year). They took me in but did a calculation error (didn't include the cost of my first visit which included cleaning and x-rays) that went over my insurance payment and now I owe them $478! GH Dental claims that my insurance didn't pay but they did the math wrong so of course my insurance won't pay! I emailed them regarding my inquiry (attaching the treatment plan) and no response for 3 weeks. Insincere and terrible customer experience. They only care for their profit it and not for the customer's wellbeing as they even tried to do a treatment on my 15 month old who had a chip on her tooth (she bit something hard). Nice clean office and all, but I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER... !! I came in there last year and needed a root canal. I wanted teeth cleaning. They persuaded me to get th root canal first AND gave me a full XRAY I spent my entire insurance allowance and extra $700 dollars out of pocket. I came back 6 months later to get my TEETH cleaning and they wouldnt' because I wouldn't get extra XRAYS! I DON'T NEED XRAYS EVERY SIX MONTHS... ESPECIALLY FOR A TEETH CLEANING! They only did that to take more insurance money FROM ME! These GUYS are CROOKS!

I am seriously dental phobic - going to the dentist is second only to jumping out of an airplane and speaking in public is a close third! I avoided the dentist for over 10 years - until a tooth broke and I had to face up to my fear and make that call. I chose this practice because I had last seen Dr. Brangan when another tooth broke (yes - I only go for catastrophes!). However - this latest experience was so wonderfully calming that I will reform my ways and go regularly. The receptionist was just wonderful, assuaging my fears, giving me an appointment with hygienist Melat Assefa - whom she promised was gentle, thorough, soothing - and she was all that, plus professional (she has a master's in dental hygiene!). Ms. Assefa has the gentlest touch I've ever experienced and made me feel completely at ease in that scary chair with the lovely view out the window (4th floor - don't even think of jumping out...) and classical music. She carefully explained each step, cleaned my teeth - my! what a great feeling! - and set me up for another appointment in six months. I am actually looking forward to returning! And I will be seeing Dr. Brangan again for tooth repair, but am not afraid. The office has a wonderful clean look, there are windows in nearly every treatment room, the doors are always open, and there is a very good vibe about this practice. I am very happy to have found them, and will be a faithful flosser and regular customer.

The service here is horrible the dental assistant was not welcoming and continued to poke at my gums instead of where the actual saliva was in my mouth. The dentist didn’t say much about it at at. She also repeated struck my teeth with the metal utensils creating pain for me in my front teeth. The front desk were admistrators were extremely unpleasant and seemly discriminative. I recently moved out of my parent's house and, due to the change in location, had to switch many things in my life. Many of these were people, such as my doctor, barber, etc…that I had been seeing since I was a kid. However, the one thing I absolutely refused to switch is Great Hill Dental in Somerville. The main reason I decided to stay with Great Hill is simple; they care about their customers. As an HR professional I would love to get some tips from their hiring managers as all of their staff is extremely professional and friendly. The mood at the Front Desk is inviting and puts me at ease as I am quickly ushered into their lovely, clean facility which sports some great views of Somerville. The dental assistants are awesome (especially Rosa C.) and Melat, my hygienist, is meticulous in her job and always takes the greatest care not to cause me any pain while cleaning my teeth. Dr. Michalowski is a fantastic dentist and always has a joyful demeanor. All in all, this is a fantastic place and I look forward to coming here for years to come!

I have visited 3 dental offices. The first one in malden was much cheaper but the service was horrible, I knew that it would not suit me. I decided to come to Great hill because its close to me. The service was amazing the ortho DR. was able to answer all my questions and reassured that me of all my concerns. The office is beautiful, clean, peaceful, easy to navigate, and the front desk staff is so pleasant and helpful. Parking is easy, you come up to the 4th floor and your ready to go. I also decided to make them my permanent provider. I am looking forward to working with them to correct my overbite and grinding of my teeth. This office is really great and being in Davis square means you can use public transport to her here !
