Dr. Sharma is a skilled dentist and when I had a problem with a sensitive filling she got me right in to correct the issue, which I appreciated. The receptionists and Phyllis the dental hygienist are very kind and accommodating. I gave 3 stars because I left my last appointment feeling very uncomfortable. There seems to be a strong push in this dental practice to sell you various products and services from teeth whitening to grossly overpriced night guards and being that it's a private clinic, the more they sell, the more they earn. Being in the medical field myself, I understand the value of avoiding conflicts of interest. It is therefore difficult to know if what you are being told you need is truly what you need or if there is a bias towards doing and selling more, in search of higher profits.
I was told I would need a crown replaced and that my insurance would only cover half the cost. I would be required to put 10% of the cost of procedure in order to schedule it and felt pressured to do so right away. I said I would like to see if there are other practices that could do the procedure for less. I was made to feel like I was being cheap and "price shopping." I will say that if they are truly concerned about the interests of the patient, they would encourage "price shopping" or they would respond by saying that their prices were competitive and they offer a good value for the cost.
My family and I will therefore will be searching for a different practice that seems less commercially oriented and doesn't make their patients feel cheap for doing what any savvy consumer of healthcare would do.
