My husband and I have been coming to Sloop for years. Each time we come for a cleaning, we have a great experience. And Dr. Allen was a helpful guide walking my husband through the wisdom teeth removal process and suggesting an oral surgeon to handle his surgery.

You should honor the oath you took and stop manipulating patients for financial gain. I am glad there are other people here who reviewed your practice besides your friends and family. There is truth to the fact that you have no empathy towards patients suffering and serious ethical question marks on your behavior.

Dr. Ken and the rest of his staff are wonderful. I’ve never had a problem making an appointment and they have always been able to get me in whenever I’ve had something urgent, such as terrible pain or a lost filling. Dr. Ken is honest and straightforward-which I appreciate, and his office staff are extremely friendly. I used to see a “top rated” dentist in Lakeview, but Sloop far exceeds their care and I’m much happier as a patient. I wish I came here sooner!

Came here because part of a filling came out and I needed it fixed ASAP. Staff was super nice and Dr Allen explained everything to me. Initially they were just gonna do an exam to see how much needed to be fixed but it was a simple fix so they squeezed me in which made me super happy. I actually have a few dentists in my family so I've seen them my whole life and this was the first time seeing someone I didn't already know. I'm super impressed and will probably try to come here from now on!

The work is great. However, Dr. Allen is not the dentist for a dentalphobic and neither is he a professional manager. Although he prescribed medication for me to take before coming to the appointment, I was still nervous and he was not empathetic. No problem... I understand at some point, the dentist has to get the job done. However after holding my mouth wide open for longer than an hour, he kept reminding me- you have to keep your mouth open - again no problem however, the tone of his voice was not calming and somewhat frightening considering I needed him to finish without injuring me. Secondly, I don't know how his employees work there. He is VERY rude to them in front of clients, I can only imagine what happens when clients are not around. I work in healthcare and this is not what I want to endure while having services completed.

I just went to Sloop Dental for the first time today. Due to a changing work schedule, I needed a place with flexible hours and they have the best options for any busy schedule. My teeth are not an easy clean, but Stacey did an excellent job. It was painless! Dr. Allen walked through his recommendations in a clear manner and showed me the trouble spots on my teeth on the images. As a scientist, I appreciate being shown the data! If you are skittish about going to the dentist, you have no reason to worry here!

While I appreciate the offer for additional complimentary services, I think what'd really be great is if future clients who experience something similar aren't met with skepticism, but rather empathy. That would have went a long way and it's free....

Outcome of pictures and x-rays were used to clearly and coherantly show what and why they did anything before doing it. Didn't throw any unnecessary procedures or expenses at me. I would 100% recommend Sloop Dental. It's exactly how a visit to the dentist should be.

Dr. Allen is one of the most ignorant, cocky, shovenist pigs I have ever come in contact with. You should be ashamed of yourself with the way you treat your staff and the way you talk about them. They are the backbone to your office. I can promise you once I get done telling people on all the review sites the things you said about your staff you are going to rethink the next time you open your mouth with a ignorant pompous ass comment. I hope your daughter doesn’t end up with an asshat like you.

Bait and switch here. I called for a price to reverent a bridge and described exactly and accurately what had to be done to a person by the name of Sarah. When Dr. Allen came in the office the cost soared to over 50% what I was originally quoted. This makes it very difficult for a senior living on a fixed income.

I'm new to Chicago and was looking for a local office in the loop. I scheduled an appointment blindly without reading any reviews...which was a big mistake. Sloop has friendly staff and dental hygienist. Probably one of the most most informative and painless cleanings I've received. Unfortunately my whole experience was abruptly finished when I met the dentist. A sealant of mine had fallen out and the dentist here recommended I get a filling done. I had concerns about getting a filling done, and wanted to understand the differences between a filling and a sealant. His explanation was in an incredibly condescending tone and was very brief as if he was in a rush. I was speaking to my mom on the phone before I made my decision while waiting on the cost of the filling to be processed. I asked Dr. Allen to explain it to her on the phone and his tone continued to be incredibly condescending and rude. He passed back my cellphone mid-conversation with my mom while she was asking him a question and said to me "I don't know she just keeps talking" and left the room. How insulting! I'm sorry I'm not versed in dental care procedures and I've never had any dental work besides the one sealant! all I wanted was a little more information before I agreed. I left the dental chair after this and told Dr. Allen that I was not doubting his clinical judgment, but I work in healthcare with patients on a daily basis and I just wanted more education. I also told him his tone was rude and unprofessional. Dr. Allen's reply was "I did explain it to you multiple times." And he walked away. Not apology. Nothing. I was shocked. I immediately transferred my care. My biggest mistake was not reading the numerous other yelp reviews of Dr. allen's temper and rude, curt, and condescending tone. Don't go to Sloop I've never been so appalled by another healthcare provider.

I have been thinking of doing this review for years. I generally dislike giving negative reviews, especially to small, local businesses. But I am STILL suffering the ramifications of his choices for me in 2015. And I think it is important that it be known. And yes, I did share my concerns with them when I was "going through" all of this, repeatedly. I was diagnosed with cancer in 2015 and in the "to prep for chemo" list of things to do is a dental appointment, bc you can not/ should not do any dental work while undergoing chemo. Which I disclosed clearly a few times for this appointment. So rather than go to my usual person who was super far away, I went to Dr Allen. His technology was very impressive ( this is why he got 2 stars and not 1). He said I had a crack in a filling and it needed replaced. He "showed" it to me. I had had no problems or issues with it and have always prided myself on really great teeth. I submitted to letting him replace it. I can only speculate on what went wrong ( a few ideas), beyond the fact that after the procedure it remained very sensitive. I reported this and they let me come in to look at it and 'slapped' something on it to "relieve the sensitivity". I tried to share this seemed deeper. They also attempted to charge me for this extra visit (which I strongly objected). A bit later, I continued to let them know it was still an issue and sensitive and there was clearly a bigger problem. All of this was being dismissed and not listened to. Next thing, I am in chemo and then.......loads of Jaw pain.....you know, the kind you get when you "need a root canal". So bc I was dismissed and probably had a procedure I did not need (and or done poorly), I ended up with a Root Canal WHILE in chemo, which was the epitome of what I was trying to avoid in the first place. It is a problem to this day, and today I had a consult (referred by my new dentist) to get this Root Canal extracted! Sounds fun huh! Oh yes and it is all very very expensive, timely, and stressful. Edited to add reply to their response: _ They absolutely DID attempt to charge me for the time I had to come in for the follow up due to sensitivity (this is not at all false), I did fight it (as mentioned above) I specifically remember sitting and discusing it with the billing lady - they did not show any evidence what so ever of decay in the slightest and did no xray - the ONLY thing he "showed" me was a small 'crack in the prior filling' - this is false personal information and true or false sharing this would be a violation of HIPPA - which I see they have done in many of their, far too extensive and emotional, responses to negative reviews - I am basing this off of my fact - not just my feelings - I would not have needed said root canal if it were not for their neglect and error

FIRST OF ALL I LIVE IN THE SUBURBS AND WAS A LITTLE RELUCTANT ON MAKING THE TRIP BUT AM I GLAD THAT I DID. 1ST CLASS ALL THE WAY AROUND. FROM THE NICE GREETING WHEN I WALKED IN THE DOOR, TO THEN MEETING HIS ASSISSTANT, MEETING THE HYGENIST, AND THEN MEETING DR ALLEN. DR ALLEN EXPLAINED EVERYTHING TO ME BEFORE HE DID IT. I love this dentist. Everyone is friendly and this dentist, Dr. Ken is a phenomenal dentist. He is quick and my dental work has been super solid. No crowns falling off or anything like that. Edit: watch the billing!!!! I do not believe the billing is being correctly done. Not sure if this is an oversight or shiesty practice. I am investigating. I'm really thinking the latter. So disappointing as I have sent a few friends and family members his way. My fiance told me that she believed it was erroneous a long time ago and I wrote it off, but now I see for myself. I'll alert my people to contact their insurance companies, as I'm doing.im thinking of going elsewhere as I have not been contacted back concerning this issue.

I had had no problems or issues with it and have always prided myself on really great teeth. I submitted to letting him replace it. I can only speculate on what went wrong ( a few ideas), beyond the fact that after the procedure it remained very sensitive. I reported this and they let me come in to look at it and 'slapped' something on it to "relieve the sensitivity". I tried to share this seemed deeper. They also attempted to charge me for this extra visit (which I strongly objected). A bit later, I continued to let them know it was still an issue and sensitive and there was clearly a bigger problem. All of this was being dismissed and not listened to. Next thing, I am in chemo and then.......loads of Jaw pain.....you know, the kind you get when you "need a root canal". So bc I was dismissed and probably had a procedure I did not need (and or done poorly), I ended up with a Root Canal WHILE in chemo, which was the epitome of what I was trying to avoid in the first place. It is a problem to this day, and today I had a consult (referred by my new dentist) to get this Root Canal extracted! Sounds fun huh! Oh yes and it is all very very expensive, timely, and stressful. Edited to add reply to their response: _ They absolutely DID attempt to charge me for the time I had to come in for the follow up due to sensitivity (this is not at all false), I did fight it (as mentioned above) I specifically remember sitting and discusing it with the billing lady - they did not show any evidence what so ever of decay in the slightest and did no xray - the ONLY thing he "showed" me was a small 'crack in the prior filling' - this is false personal information and true or false sharing this would be a violation of HIPPA - which I see they have done in many of their, far too extensive and emotional, responses to negative reviews - I am basing this off of my fact - not just my feelings - I would not have needed said root canal if it were not for their neglect and error

FIRST OF ALL I LIVE IN THE SUBURBS AND WAS A LITTLE RELUCTANT ON MAKING THE TRIP BUT AM I GLAD THAT I DID. 1ST CLASS ALL THE WAY AROUND. FROM THE NICE GREETING WHEN I WALKED IN THE DOOR, TO THEN MEETING HIS ASSISSTANT, MEETING THE HYGENIST, AND THEN MEETING DR ALLEN. DR ALLEN EXPLAINED EVERYTHING TO ME BEFORE HE DID IT. TOLD ME WHAT TO EXPECT AFTERWARDS AND THEN EXPLAINED THE FURTHER TREATMENT I WOULD NEED. MY TEETH HAVENT FELT ANY BETTER. I love this dentist. Everyone is friendly and this dentist, Dr. Ken is a phenomenal dentist. He is quick and my dental work has been super solid. No crowns falling off or anything like that. Edit: watch the billing!!!! I do not believe the billing is being correctly done. Not sure if this is an oversight or shiesty practice. I am investigating. I'm really thinking the latter. So disappointing as I have sent a few friends and family members his way. My fiance told me that she believed it was erroneous a long time ago and I wrote it off, but now I see for myself. I'll alert my people to contact their insurance companies, as I'm doing.im thinking of going elsewhere as I have not been contacted back concerning this issue.

I woke up last night to excruciating parking n and n my upper left jaw. Stayed up all night, could not sleep. I went into Sloop at 7am today and I'm glad I did. Doctor Allen tested my teeth, gave me something for the pain and we set a 2pm same day appointment. Dr. Allen treated my tooth, cleaning out the infected part. I feel so much better already. I feel some pain, but the pain of healing, not infected pain. Sloop was literally a life saver today.
