Kailua Dental Care has always been awesome - I've been going for years, and Dr. Erik Dunkelberger is now my favorite dentist I've ever been to. I went in dreading my procedure, but he put me at ease and gave me professional insights that I appreciated so much. He was careful and very communicative as he worked on me, made sure I felt no pain, and was impressively knowledgeable. You could tell he knew exactly what he was doing. Everything has gone better than expected since my dental work was done. I'd recommend very highly.

While on vacation in Oahu, my mom experienced a painful tooth infection that made it difficult for her to eat. As Canadians, we were worried about the cost and quality of dental care in the US. However, we sought care as my mom's pain was getting worse by the day. Kailua Dental Care exceeded our expectations in countless ways! They were super friendly and made space to see my mom on the day we called. From the front desk, to the dental hygienist and to the Dentist, Dr. Stephen Sueda, my mom received exceptional assessment and care. The Kailua Dental Care team was caring, compassionate and generous with it's care. My mom left with a plan and within a few days, she was able to tolerate food and fully enjoy her vacation. The cost was very reasonable as well! I would highly recommend Kailua Dental Care!

We have been coming here for three years. My daughter has anxiety disorder which I have been very up front about and asked if they could handle. They assured me time and time again that they could . She needs some patience and a little extra time. Today we visited and they were 45 minutes behind and when the dentist (sonson) did come in he gave her about two minutes and then left us for another 15 and then asked us to leave. My daughter though it was her fault and cried for most of the day. Great receptionist here but the dentist has no bedside manner and obviously didn't care too much about our family. He must not have kids cause nobody treats a child that way. It's only amplified in my case. I was about ready to punch him in the face.

I actually don't mind the Dentist anymore ! Dr. Dunkelberger is excellent ! He always takes the time needed to do a great job ! I have never written a review on a Dental office before, but I really appreciate his excellent work. He fixed a small chip in my front tooth and it looks fantastic ! He is always, gentle, polite and patient with my nerves !! LOL His work has been very good each time i have gone. The front desk is friendly, helpful and polite... Both dental assistants I have had there have been very sweet and they don't make you feel uncomfortable... I really appreciate that ! Thank you all ! We sure appreciate you !!

Dr. Sonson is a miracle worker magic man with teeth!!! I'm a 69 yr old lady who's managed to ruin my teeth on so many ways! Living outer islands with sketchy dental work did not help...Sonson is putting me back together again...And putting up with my old lady details and rants!!! I can only confirm what others have written about Kailua Dental Care. I've been patronizing them for the past 10+ years and they have always been friendly, considerate, and professional. Each visit is like visiting family. Use of the latest and pain free equipment is always impressive.

The dentist do a good job, but their booking management and reception desk are a disaster. I spent $3,000 out of pocket and had Insurance cover $1,000 for invisalign orthodontic treatments. I paid half upfront before treatment and made regular monthly payments to make sure I my account was settled by the time the 4-month treatment was finished. I had to remind the the staff two or three times that I had not seen a claim submitted to my insurance even after treatment had started. It wasn't until after I had finished treatment and transitioned to permanent retainers that the claim was submitted and approved. Now they are receiving the insurance money every 3 months. Despite having my portion of the treatment paid off I have started receiving collection notices in the mail for the remaining balance. I went to discuss the matter with their bookkeeper, who agreed it should not have been sent to collections since regular payments were being made by insurance. However they automatically send outstanding balances to collection agencies if they haven't received payment within 60 days. Even though It was their fault for not getting the insurance money on time, they are damaging my credit and giving me unnecessary phone calls and collection mail. I sorted this out once already 3 months ago and now it's happening again. I've also witnessed people who show up for a major root canal appointment only to find out the receptionist never blocked the time off in their schedule. The man took off work to come there and even had a reminder card with the correct date and time filled in. My husband and I had regular cleanings booked and were canceled last minute because they did not schedule enough hygienists. That was the last straw for me. We're finding a new dental office that isn't managed by clowns.

I have had two procedures done - a year apart, and in both instances, I was deeply impressed by the teams' efficiency, high level of professionalism, and kind friendly spirit... When I lost a crucial filling a few days ago - they offered me an appointment the very same day... I am in my seventies - and go back a ways, but going to the dentist has never been such a pleasant experience as it is with these folks. I don't have the words to give them the praise they deserve... They are very knowledgeable and go above and beyond to met your needs. I strongly recommend Dr. Wong as she extremely nice, caring and smart. She goes above and beyond to make sure her patients are taken care of and their needs are met. She is very good at explaining what and if any further work needs to be performed on your teeth and why. First time here; inquired about implants. Staff and Dr are excellent, all worked to take care of me, expeditiously. Here it is a few days later; had a broken off tooth extracted. It was great; I felt nothing and Dr Sonson is marvelous, and so are the dental assistants. Can't wait to get going on the implants.

My last appointment was very upsetting. I was seen by Dr. Erik Dunkelberger. As soon as he entered the room, he came off as very rude, self centered even. He sat down and we had a brief small talk conversation, like I do with most of my doctors, and his responses made me feel as if I was inferior to him. He gave off this vibe and tone of "Seriously? Your life is that sad? You're a joke!" Never before has a doctor talked to me with such bad bedside manner. After he inspected my teeth, we talked about what I wanted to do regarding my dental situation, and he sounded annoyed with the choices I wanted to pursue. My interaction with him has me doubting that I will be returning here for my dental needs. This place (can) be good because the assistants are great. As long as Dr. Dunkelberger is not your dentist.

This Thanksgiving I am including Kailua Dental Care in my list of things that I am thankful to God for. Over the past 4 yrs my family has relied upon them they have proven to be consistently courteous, gracious, timely and the dentists always do a superb job! I especially appreciate that the dentists take extra steps to ease any pain when needing to apply anesthetic and explain the procedure they are doing. Due to a suspiciously outrageous diagnosis I received from Dr. Howard Carrico (also in Kailua) that would cost me $2000, I decided to have a second opinion from Dr. Erik Dunkelberger at Kailua Dental Care. After a comprehensive examination, Dr. Dunkelberger informed me that I had excellent dental hygiene and no dental work was needed on the contrary. What a relief! Additionally, Dr. Dunkelberger demonstrated great attention to detail as he customized the mouthguard according to my bite so that it would fit as comfortably as possible. I felt cared for and left the office with complete satisfaction.
