I've been seeing Dr. Neilson for several years and I am always happy to go to my appointments. The Dental Assistants Lyuba and Jessica are amazing, they make me feel so comfortable and honestly care about my comfort. Siobhan is great with explaining everything to me and helping me work around my budget. I left Anchorage for a year and when I came back it felt like I had never left, it was great to see everyone. Of course you can't beat the massaging chairs and TV's, when you finish your appointment you will feel like you've been to the spa rather than at the dentist! Me and my mom recently started going to Alaska Smiles almost a year ago! And I think it has been the coolest dentist place I have been too. Not only are the people very friendly but while you are getting your teeth fixed you can watch tv and MASSAGE CHAIRS. Very cool place.

Today I went in on my lunch hour to get a crown seated. Usually it takes grinding, etc to get the crown to sit right. Today, it was a perfect fit! No grinding or anything! Just some quick cement & I was on my way in less than 1/2 hour. Thank you so much! Great staff at Alaska Smiles!

To start with I wrestled with writing this review for the last couple years. But after yesterday when my new dentist again said what shotty work dr. Nielsen did to me I had enough. Most of the reviews you are reading are from when dr. Nielsen was giving away an iPad. The deal was if you reviewed him on Google your name went in for the drawing, that's why they are all 5 star. I was completely happy for the couple years I was seeing dr. Nielsen. I've seen two dentists since seeing this quack. Both have been completely appalled at his work. Using terms like "no anatomy" and "double filled with different density fillings" who knew such things, I didn't. I trusted dr. Nielsen because I thought he was the expert. It was a hard lesson but please please please, if nothing else go get a second opinion. Even if you are completely happy with him as your doctor. You owe it to your mouth to go see a professional. (Added 9/30/15) your response insinuates that I'm not an actual patient, I am. Your response insinuates what I said was hearsay, I can substantiate my claims and since I'm the party it happened to it's not hearsay. Hearsay would be if I said another one of your patients said you did something wrong. Now that that is cleared up I urge all who read this be cautious and get a second opinion. This dentist is good at marketing.

I started going to Alaska Smiles a little over a year ago. I had a great experience and decided to being my girls there too. They loved it! Especially being able to watch tv while sitting in the chair. It helps make the appointment go by quicker and they love going home with their goody bags with new toothbrushes. Dr Brett Johnson has been the dentist at this office for about a year now. He and his staff make going to the dentist something you don't dread. They dont give you lectures, but make you feel good about what you are doing right. Also you can watch tv while your teeth get worked on, so if you are a busy working mom like me, watching tv is something I never get to do-unless its mickey mouse clubhouse! Dr Johnson truly cares about his patients and is a wonderful dentist.

Dr Johnson and his staff are very courteous and welcoming on my visits to their office. A visit to the dentist is not high on my list of activities that I enjoy but him and his staff are professional and good natured in making it an experience that is not unpleasant. I highly recommend them for the way they conduct business. They have always been accommodating on schedule changes and were able to see me when unexpected dental problems occurred. While I wouldn't say I'm ever excited to go to the dentist, Dr. Johnson and his staff at Alaska Smiles are so friendly that they really help put me at ease and make it enjoyable. You can really tell that Dr. Johnson cares about his patients and he explains things in a way that is easy to understand, so there are or surprises or confusion. Their office is always clean and inviting as well. I highly recommend Alaska Smiles and trust them with my dental care.

I hadn't been to the dentist in a very long time. I have been scared due to my dental history rattled with bad experiences. I got the nerve to go again due to some tooth issues. Alaska smiles made me feel like a deserving human and I was completely comfortable. They eased my pain and sent me leaving with a plan and great joy and hope for the future. It brought tears to eyes. I would have cried if not for the hygienist standing there. Lol Thank you so much for your service. I'd say I'm looking forward to the next visit but after all it is dental work.

This is my first online review, but I felt compelled to write one because of my experience at Alaska Smiles. The first thing that I will say is that the experience is probably about as good as you will get at a dentist. Friendly staff, VERY knowledgeable about insurance information, comfortable furniture, tv, etc as everyone else has noted. We also scored the free toothbrush deal (how they suckered us in). The issue that my husband and I had with Alaska Smiles is that they recommended and performed dental work that we believe was neither necessary nor in our best interests. I consistently brush and floss, and I have reached 30 without a single cavity. Dr. Nielsen recommended that I have a filling on one of my teeth, and that seemed a little odd because I had just had a clean bill of health just a few months before. When I pressed him about it, he called it a "pre-cavity". I decided that I didn't feel like enduring the filling/numbness/etc. for a "pre-cavity", so I decided not to address it. My husband (again, a very faithful brusher/flosser, one filling his whole life) had his teeth cleaned a week later, and the hygenist said that they looked very good, but when Dr. Nielsen came in, he wanted to perform 9 fillings. My husband thought it was weird because it seemed like Dr. Nielsen tried really hard to get the pick "stuck" in his teeth (as my husband had felt when he had the soft spot before), but didn't seem to be able to do so. He had not been to the dentist in a while, so we bit and had 4 fillings done (all that insurance would cover that year), we then wound up moving and switching dentists. We didn't get around to our next dental appointment for over a year, and when we did, the dentist gave both my husband and my teeth a clean bill of health (the five "cavities" my husband needed filled and my "pre-cavity" included), even though my husband told him beforehand that another dentist had recommended that he have work done. Alaska Smiles is definitely the place to go if you want to get the "Disney experience" and have the absolute maximum dental work performed, but if money is a concern for you, I would recommend that you look elsewhere or get a second opinion before proceeding with their recommendations.

I've been going to Alaska Smiles for a few years now. I have such a great experience everytime and the staff is so friendly. When I checked out after my first visit they had a print out of the future procedures I needed, had already checked my benefits, and had estimated payments all ready to go. They even informed me what wouldn't be covered. This was very helpful and much appreciated. I plan to continue using this office and would recommend it.

My husband and I have seeing Dr. Nielsen for 3 years now and are so happy with everything about the office. We always get a friendly greeting when we walk into the lobby. The assistants are so down to earth and make sure that you feel comfortable as soon as you're in the chair. They have TV's and comfortable massaging chairs. Dr. Nielsen is so gentle, kind, and honest. He makes sure that you understand what is being done and does it with great care. The work I've received looks and feels great. The hygienists are thorough and give great instruction. The checkout process is thorough as well and Siobhan makes sure that we know how much everything will cost before anything is done. I have and will continue to refer friends and family to Alaska Smiles knowing that they are in good hands. Thank you!

Where to start, My son (25yrs old) has developed an insecurity of smiling because his teeth look so bad. I believe it’s affecting his ability to land a good job because his first impression looks like, well, I’m not going to sugar coat it he looks like a drug user. I googled dentists and saw Alaska smiles. Called and right away they were so welcoming. They offer free consultation which was nessicary for our situation ( no insurance and very little money ). They treated us like we were important. They introduced us to their staff and spent quality time with my son and I. They took x-rays, pictures and even started us on a path to begin having healthier teeth and this was all free. We literally walked out without paying one dollar. We go back today for our options. Now I don’t know what our out come will be. I don’t know at this point how we’ll even be able to afford such a thing but I will say because of the service we received my son (sitting in the dentist chair, staring out their window ) had a smile on his face that I hope to never forget. This review may be basis because I am associated with Alaska Smiles, but I also believe it can provide a different perspective for those searching for a dental office. As a dental hygienist for seven years I know what I like and I know what I don't like, so when I was looking for a place to practice I was very picky in my decision. Not only do I want to receive high quality of dental work, but I want to be in an environment where I feel safe, supported, and respected. Dr Nielsen and his staff (including myself) are always aiming for your satisfaction. After interviewing at several offices in town I decided on Alaska Smiles because they are modern with updated technologies (makes my work easier and better care for you), a smaller "family friendly" practice (I come from a small town in NE so I don't like large corporation dental offices where people are herded like cattle), very clean (we bag and sterilize everything-I have seen many offices that may not be up to OSHA protocols), and Dr Nielsen provides excellent cosmetic care. Alaska Smiles has been in business for over 10 years and has kept the same team members, which speaks a lot to me as a hygienist because it shows Dr. Nielsen treats his staff like gold and he treats his patients just the same.
