You know that numb feeling you get when you know a mechanic is screwing you over, but you don't know enough about cars to call him out on it? That's how I felt walking out of Dental Care of Huntsville. Update: Shortly after posting this review, they called me and apologized for some of the issues, and they were very friendly/personable on the phone. I've since updated this review to 2 stars to acknowledge their excellent customer service. Since this ended up longer than I expected, here's your takeaway: If you go here for the first time, and they tell you that your mouth was rotting from the inside and that you need to spend money ASAP to fix it, consider getting a second opinion. I'm glad I did. First, the positives: The staff was very friendly, and they have a nice waiting room. My hygienist was very sweet. Negatives: Very disappointed in my experience here. Being new to the area, I came in for the first cleaning I've had in a couple years, and I was quickly told that I had 5-6 cavities (one of which was so bad, purportedly, that I might need a root canal), gingivitis, and that I needed sealants ASAP on the remainder of my teeth. They prescribed a prescription-grade toothpaste (extra $20), added on a "pre-diagnosis consultation fee" ($40, not covered by insurance) added some panoramic X-Rays (maybe $30 extra, as I'd already had them in the past 5 years), and told me that it would cost roughly $600 to fix everything. Edit: Per their phone response to this review, that strange consultation fee was actually an oral cancer screening test that I opted into. When I mentioned that the title was confusing, they said they'd work to update it in the future to make it less so. Again, props to them for the quick response. Afterward, I just felt nauseous. I'd spent about $90 more than I expected on the cleaning alone, and I suddenly had $600 more of dental work to take care of. They pushed me to schedule my appointment the next day, but my fiance recommended I wait a couple weeks and get a second opinion. I'm glad I did. I requested my X-rays the day after my appointment (they didn't send them), and I had to follow up twice more to get them sent over to Complete Dental of Madison, where I went for my second opinion. The entire staff there was amazing, and the dentist spent probably 10-15 minutes looking over my X-rays and mouth - only to tell me he could only find 3 cavities, and he didn't think sealants were necessary for my teeth. My final bill out the door? $0. Needless to say, I canceled my follow-up appointment here.

Absolutely outstanding patient care, dental work and customer service, with Shamia, Shaina and Dr. Gooch! The only problem I have is that, apparently, because of the success and popularity of the office, they must have a higher call volume than they can handle. I have called and left messages that have not been returned on a few occasions. This is not enough to make me switch dentists, but it is problematic. But they are the best. They will work with you financially, and treat you with caring and respect while they perfect your smile!

I always have a good experience with Dr. Allison Gooch and the staff at Dental Care of Huntsville! They go to great lengths to make sure you are comfortable and everyone there is so friendly. They provide blankets if you're cold, pillows if you need one. They are so accommodating! My teeth and gums look and feel so much better since I have been under their care, and they are helping me get my perfect smile back! I am so excited!

I called to make an appointment with this office, however, was told that I could no longer schedule appointments in advance, because I previously cancelled too many. I was shocked. Life happens, and cancelling appointments is something that cannot be avoided. I am a single parent of two kids. Needless to say, I will find another dentist, there is no shortage of them in Huntsville. This place needs to close down. They were kind initially...now they seem to be very nasty.

They are friendly but their solution to any cavity is a crown. They will refuse to do a filling because they want to make more money by having you pay for a crown. My wife also need two fillings away from the tooth that needs a crown and they insisted that they do the crown first before doing the fillings.

I received a cleaning, x-ray, and an exam with Dr. Kidd as a new patient with a promo I received in the mail. I was informed at the appointment that I needed to fill four cavities at a cost of close to $1,000. I was told that the damage to two of my teeth was so extensive that the procedure needed to be completed as soon as possible to prevent needing a root canal. I had not had a cavity in over twenty years and I was used to receiving positive feedback from dental exams, so I was suspicious of her recommendations. I sought a second opinion from another dentist, and after he reviewed my x-rays and performed another exam, I was informed that my teeth looked healthy with no indication of cavities. *Please note that I am the third person writing a google review who had a poor experience with dishonesty with this practice. I wish I had read reviews before making an appointment here.

Not very cost effective even with dental insurance and first visit for evaluation they indicate i need a root canal on one tooth, however the dentist does not do root canals on molars. They gave no remedy for this problem. Dental Care had set up an appointment for today and had been reminding me with daily text in fact I received one yesterday. When I got there at 8 AM they had no record of the appointment and had no room for me. So they have cost me 2 days of work on the cancer misdiagnosis and 1 day on the lost appointment and the second visit was $611.00 out of pocket even with dental insurance.

okay, WOW - i did NOT expect THIS: my "dental experience" was NOT what i dreaded it would be =) in fact, i felt as though i (and my teeth/mouth and my time and my money) was 100% respected, from beginning to end - front desk/records/billing, hygienist, dentist - the whole enchilada! My hygienist, Kara - i believe she was wearing a "Dental Hygenius" t-shirt - was absolutely amazing! if you're like me, you know an expert when you see one, and Kara. Is. An. Expert A "dental hygenius" if i ever saw one! She was SO fast, but SO thorough; the cleaning was gentle but earnest! i really really trust this office with my family's dental care. P.S., my last cleaning was on my actual birthday, and these thoughtful NUTS actually circulated a birthday card through the entire office and presented it to me on my way out - talk about ABOVE AND BEYOND - wow!

I made my series of 3 appointments for a dental project 7 months in advance. I received 2 emails the week of the appointment confirming my date and time, one of them just 2 hours before the actual appointment. I drove 45 minutes to the office only to be told that the dentist no longer works Tuesday evenings and that I would need to reschedule. I was offered an appointment 30 days later. If this were a lone occurrence, I could let it go, but I went through the same thing last year when she stopped working on Thursdays! I will not return to this office.

Went in for a first-time appointment on 2-9-2018. I was told my blood pressure was too high and they could go no further. They told me that there would be no charge for the visit. Well. They sent me a bill for a " Consultation - 2nd Opinion " for $80 AND billed my insurance an additional $157. I called their office at around 11:45 AM and was told everyone was out to lunch and would be back at 1 PM. I couldn't wait but was told that they would call back. Well. No call. Unacceptable service and unacceptable charge for 2 minutes that it took to tell me they couldn't work on me. There should ALWAYS be someone on hand that can handle billing questions and patients shouldn't have to wait on a 90 minute lunch. I'm reporting the charge to my insurance and refuse to pay the $80 bill I received. Stay away and check your insurance claims, folks.

This is hard for me to write, because like the other people in the reviews section, I genuinely enjoyed the company of the dentists, dental hygienists, and staff. They were incredibly kind and treated me well from start to finish. Unfortunately, I am not sure why this has become a pattern (based on the other reviews), but this practice was going to have me pay $1800 out of pocket for an overly comprehensive procedure because I showed signs of early-stage periodontal disease. They did some tests on my teeth, confirmed that I had lost some bone, and told me that I needed to have this procedure done within the next few weeks. Untreated, they said my teeth would lose more bone and eventually begin falling out within the next few years. They also informed me that I had several cavities, so I’d need to come In a separate appointment after the procedure to get those filled. I was terrified with these findings (my gums bleed sometimes because I’m not the best flosser, so I’m not the model child of dental health!), so I went to my long-established dentist for a second opinion. He not only said that my teeth looked great and that I had healthy bone structure, but I had no cavities and no signs of decay. I need to get a filling replaced next week, but that’s it. I’m not sure what happens here, because they really are the nicest people and have a great facility. But if you walk away feeling like you’ve been hit with a wave of bad news about your teeth, consider seeing another doctor. I also have several questions about the ethics behind the choices they make for treatment, but I will reserve that judgment for myself.

This practice is dishonest. I went in with no changes to my dental history and was informed that I had 15 cavities. I was a bit doubtful because I've had maybe a half dozen cavities in my life. I thought that perhaps it was just part of getting older but still thought I would get a second opinion. I went to another dentist and was informed that I had no cavities whatsoever. It blows my mind that a practice would lie to me to that extent and would cause me as much pain and discomfort as that many cavities would have caused. So grateful I got a second opinion!

Don’t even BOTHER wasting your time with this dentist. It has been one issue after the next. I was scheduled for an appointment this past Friday, September 6th, at 7:00 am. After attempting to call the office, I was informed that they were close. I was, and still am, extremely disappointed. I took off work just to not even be able to go to the dentist. After speaking to Shamiya on the phone, I was told that the earliest appointment they had that could accommodate my schedule was October 22nd. This dentist just needs to shut down. Please don’t waste your time or your money here.

Like most people, I've had some horrific experiences with dentists-I certainly don't need one more. Thank you to all of you who took the time to give honest reviews. It saved me a lot of heartache, not to mention money. This is not one of those times to "try it, you'll like it". I work too hard for my money.

I received a mailer for a discounted cleaning, so I went. However, I was then told that I needed an (expensive) deep cleaning procedure. They used scare tactics, telling me that if I didn't have the procedure done, I would likely start to experience teeth mobility in a year. Unfortunately, I believed them, and had the procedure done. Immediately after the procedure, I did start experiencing teeth mobility (which I didn't have before, and which they never said was a side effect of the procedure). When I contacted them, they said that I would need braces and referred me elsewhere. When I asked if I should be worried about losing teeth, they did not answer. To add insult to injury, my insurance refuses to pay, because they received my records and said my teeth did not need the procedure to begin with. At this point, I was fed up and went to a new dentist. My new (and highly rated) dentist agreed, saying they would not have performed this procedure either. Dental Care of Huntsville kept sending me a bill, even though they were still trying to appeal the decision with my insurance, so I would call and verify that I did not actually owe the amount they kept sending me paper bills for (and recorded these calls, in case they tried to say I was months behind on my bill). It is now about a year after the procedure, my insurance is still not paying (per information I received in the last two weeks), so I have requested a detailed record of what all I've already paid for (on the day of the procedure) and what all is still owed, so I can pay them and be done with this god awful place. I hate that I was convinced by their scare tactics to undergo this service, and I suggest anyone else who decides to try this dentist office receive a second opinion before accepting that you need any of the pricier services, no matter how much they try to make you believe they are medically necessary for your dental health.

I was told that I needed a variety of expensive treatments, so expensive in fact that it made economic sense to go on a dental tourism trip for treatment. About 50% of the "must have" treatments that represented 82% of the cost were unnecessary. Imagine that a Costa Rican dentist had to tell me that I was being upsold for unneeded treatments. All of which was confirmed when I sought a second opinion locally in Madison. They commented on how good the work I had done in Costa Rica was. The facility is nice, I agree. At this point I just want the endless promotional letters and offers to end as I will never return.

Dr. Gooch is absolutely wonderful. I had been experiencing extreme tooth pain, along with intense pain down through my jaw and down my neck. Upon examination she went over with me exactly what was going on, her opinion on what needed to be done, did a pulpectomy, and is working to try to save my tooth. The pain that had been in my jaw and down my neck is completely gone. And I’m going to be going back to her in order to get my mouth completely healthy. I don’t want to ever go to another dentist. I found the one that IS the best in Huntsville and Madison, Alabama. If you’re dentist’s name isn’t Dr. Gooch of Dental Care Of Huntsville, then you have the WRONG dentist. Plus she’s a Christian, you can stop looking for an awesome dentist now. You just found her. Dr. Gooch at Dental Care Of Huntsville.

I went to Dental Care of Huntsville in February of 2018, about 4 months after this practice opened. I was very impressed with the kindness of the staff, including Dr. Kidd, who saw me at my first appointment. The office is clean and has every bell and whistle. No complaints there. I was shocked when I found out that I needed five fillings, since I've only ever had one filling. I am 27 years old. I faithfully see my dentist every 6 months for routine cleanings and examination. I switched dentists primarily to see a dentist closer to my home. Since I have only ever had one cavity, I decided to seek a second opinion from another dentist who was recommended to me by two long-time patients. This second dentist examined my x-rays, noted seeing one possible "shadow" indicating decay, and examined the treatment plan given to me by Dental Care of Huntsville. Then she examined my teeth. She found NO DECAY in ANY areas that were noted on the treatment plan. One area, in particular, which had been highlighted as decay that had visibly darkened the tooth was found to be a clear sealant that has become stained (normal), but again, NO SIGN OF DECAY. I was flabbergasted. How could a dental practice find FIVE needed fillings, and yet a dentist who has been practicing for decades not see any sign of decay whatsoever? I will not be returning to Dental Care of Huntsville. I'm not interested in padding someone else's pockets when my teeth are perfectly healthy.

Considering it's a dentist visit involving drills, shots, etc., I always find my visits quite enjoyable. That's a testament to the staff.
