My family decided to switch to Madison Dance Academy 2 years ago because we heard it was family-friendly, that the teachers were commited, our friends enjoyed going there, and the prices were reasonable. Unfortunately, after we paid upfront for the upcoming year, the studio was sold without notice and the rates increased substantially. The new owners Emily and Marcus didn't honor the rate we had already paid and we, along with many others, were told we could either disenroll in classes or pay the increased rate. At that point, we decided to try the studio out anyway since our girls wanted to take lessons with their friends who went there. While a couple of our teachers were nice and dedicated, the overall tone is money-motivated and Emily lacks decency when it comes to customer service. From what I have heard, the family-friendly feeling has really dissipated from what it was under previous ownership. This spring when I realized there was a mandatory practice for the closing rehearsal dance scheduled on Mother's Day and I messaged her a friendly email recommending not scheduling future practices on Mother's Day, I received back a very direct, bulleted email stating that the finale dance was voluntary and my daughter didn't need to participate. A kind, "I'm sorry the practice is on Mother's Day, but it was the only option available," could have gone a long way.... Again, customer service lacking.:( Our daughters will be attending a different dance studio this year, but hopefully Madison Dance Academy takes a turn for the better.
