I cannot say enough positive things about the classes and my instructor Sevrin Shapiachan. Sevrin is a masterful teacher, a wonderful group leader and runs a great venue. He is such a wonderful and sweet person who will make you fall in love with ballroom dancing. The classes are such a blast and so much fun. Sevrin, Susanna, Lauren and Nathan are teaching different dances each week (Salsa, Tango, Cha-Cha, Rumba and waltz). They are able to teach the fundamentals of movement in a way that is logical and where the student feels comfortable in their classes from the first moment. I highly recommend anyone, with or without dance experiences, to take social ballroom dance classes at Fred Astaire at the Herndon/Reston location.

I love this place. Not only are the instructors gifted and professional teachers and dancers, but they are also some of the nicest people I've ever met. Personally, I came in for Salsa. Yet in a handful of lessons I'm dancing Salsa, Rumba, Waltz and more. And not just the basics, but beyond, thanks to Lauren my excellent private instructor. I'm so glad I took that first lesson.

I took an introductory lesson at the studio shortly before they opened on a whim. I was completely sold after my first 30 minutes! I can honestly say this has changed my outlook on life. I look forward to my lessons as well as the Friday night party. My time at the studio is filled with much laughter and its a great way to de-stress! You can take this to any level from casual dancing to competition and periodically you have the opportunity to work with some very talented coaches! Being new to the dance world, I was nervous about taking dance lessons. After my first lesson, all my fears were replaced with joy and enthusiasm. The instructors are top notch, know their stuff inside and out, and deliver lessons and feedback in a useful and encouraging way. The teaching curriculum is well defined so I can see my progress. Fun, safe place to relax. A lot of wedding couples here they must be doing great job with them. I do enjoy my private lessons, groups and Friday night practice parties. Also I like a sense of community.

The staff is professional, highly skilled, accomodating, and always working to improve their skills. The studio has a comfortable atmosphere. There is a variety of events where you can enjoy social dancing and show off what you have learned in a family friendly environment. I have attended several studios and I strongly recommend this studio whether starting new, or continuing to progress as a dancer.

The Fred Astaire Dance Studio is a great new addition to the Reston/Herndon area. I had been thinking about improving my skills (ha!) on the dance floor for a number of years, and it seems like there are more and more social situations which pop up as I get older (weddings, office holiday parties, cruise ships, spontaneous moments!) that I would prefer not to embarrass myself. When I saw the studio had just opened in my neighbor, it was one of those “no excuses” moments. It was a nice surprise (and relief) that after about 10 minutes into the first class I was enjoying myself. My instructor, Susannah, is the utmost professional, having a great deal of patience for the ultimate non-dancer like myself, but still urges the student to push themselves a little further and gain more confidence. It’s well designed new studio space and I found the pricing to be the same or even more reasonable than time with a personal trainer at the local gym. The bonus with the dance studio though is you get exercise and gain a handy social skill in the process (and have a little fun too).

We have been attending Fred Astaire at the Reston location for about one year now. We started going because my fiancé’ always wanted to dance and I thought this would be a fun activity we could do together and enjoy dancing while attending functions. One of our biggest accomplishments is that Sevrin and Susannah choreographed our wedding dance, which we mastered in time for our special day. One of the most important things that matters to us is that the feeling of the Reston location is VERY PERSONABLE. Everybody from staff to students are always warm and welcoming. After a short period, it really felt like a family environment. They offer Friday night dance theme parties, Salsa group nights out at the local Salsa club, holiday parties, events, showcases and much more... There is no shortage of things to do… We will continue to participate and look forward to learning new dance moves, meeting new people and enjoying ourselves with the Fred Astaire family.

I gave a Christmas gift of dance lessons to my fiance. We are true beginners. We have had lessons with Sevrin since January, 2019. We have thoroughly enjoyed our experience with Fred Astaire. Our instructor, Sevrin has a wonderful and funny personality style that makes the lessons fun and not intimidating. Sevrin explains and demonstrates dance moves in a very clear manner that have made it relatively easy for us to learn. The studio is clean and well appointed, but not "too far" over the top. All of the staff are welcoming and pleasant. It is clear that Sevrin and the other instructors have competed a lot and work with all levels of dance students. We recommend this dance studio for those who want to learn and do something fun or go to the next level of your dance experience!

I had always wanted to take dance lessons but thought I was too old (mid 40's). And then I found Fred Astaire Reston and had my first dance lesson in August of 2016 and have been taking weekly dance lessons (private and group plus the dance parties on Friday nights) since then. All of the instructors are encouraging, professional, patient and make it easier than you would think to learn how to dance. Great studio and great instructors! Added bonus: I've made lots of new friends who all love dancing and my overall health has improved tremendously - no more back pain, improved cardio health, weight loss (this is a great workout but it doesn't feel like working out because you're having too much fun).

Our son is getting married on February 17 and we wanted to join in on the dance floor! In January, I called Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Reston to find out if we could learn to dance for the wedding in six weeks. Sevrin Shapiachan told us to come in for a free consultation! The next evening after our free lesson, we were convinced that this was doable and signed up for 6 private lessons with Sevrin Shapiachan. Sevrin is an excellent instructor and gently encourages his students. We are 60 year old novices in dance and started from the beginning, at square zero! We will be able to dance the night away doing the Hustle, Rumba and Waltz! But we want to continue improving our dance skills, so we are now signing up for the Social Foundation sessions . We are enjoying every moment at the Studio in the friendly, social atmosphere with other students, instructors and Sevrin.

Two weeks before our wedding, my husband and I reached out to the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Reston, in the hopes that they might be able to teach us a thing or two prior to our first dance at our wedding. We were immediately paired with Nathan, who was so patient, creative, and fun to work with! In four lessons, he managed to take a part of the wedding that I was feeling the most anxious about, and made it one of the highlights of our wedding day! Our experience at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Reston could not have been better. I thought it would be great to get some exercise doing something I enjoyed. Ballroom dancing was perfect. I have learned the steps to many dances, The staff is great, they are excellent instructors. They not only provide individual lessons but there are twice a week group lessons and the Friday night dances that are so much fun, we get to practice dancing all the steps we have learned during the week. It is a warm, fun learning environment.

My wife’s parents have been ballroom dancing for about ten years now, so the prospect of dancing in front of all our friends and family was especially daunting since some of them were “pros”! Nathan prepared us perfectly! He choreographed a super fun dance for us (to “Come Fly With Me” by Frank Sinatra) that was within our capabilities but still looked impressive! Our friends were blown away and the bride’s parents were proud. Nathan was a very patient and helpful teacher, and we were so ready for our dance that even when the DJ played the wrong cover of our song, we didn’t miss a beat. (Oh, and by the way, Nathan DID warn us to make extra certain the song would be right and gave us tips for talking to the DJ; he knew all the tricks and missteps to avoid, we unfortunately were unable to follow through on our end — the point is, listen to Nathan and he will steer you right and help you impress all your friends and family with awesome moves!!)

Highly recommend this studio, the teachers are all engaging and patient with a lot of humor added to the teaching. I look forward to my lessons each week.
