My oldest daughters did several years of dance. Lisa McCarty taught several of their classes and is an excellent teacher. We were sad to go but my oldest had to make a choice on activities this year. Perhaps she'll be back, and besides, my youngest daughter just turned one, she'll probably be here someday too.

Don't join adult beginners because it's not for beginners !! They consider a 1-2 year student a beginner and don't tell you that when you sign up. Real beginners will be off to the side by themselves while the other 1-2 year beginners will be participating in the class. Expressed concern and was told to take a tap class instead. Don't waste your time or money.

I loved the atmosphere of the place it was nice you see. cool dancer but when I went to my first class the sub had tennis shoes on so I was hard to see what he was trying to teach

If you are looking for classes as an adult, these are wonderful adult ballet classes, from beginner to advanced and everything in between. Beautiful location with classical training for all ages!

When looking for true classical and modern ballet training, BVI is the place to be in Hampton Roads. It offers numerous performce opportunities each year, many classes a week, full performing and training companies with many teachers who are highly trained and bring years of professional experience with them into the classes. No where else in the region will you get the combined years of professional performance experience in teachers as you will at BVI. Modern is offered by a previous member of the Alvin Ailey company, and her beautiful choreography shows off that experience. The artistic directors have set up an atmosphere where they push and nurture students to their best abilities. They also put on wonderful professional level performances several times a year, including The Nutcracker and a spring ballet, both at the Sandler Center. We drive from the peninsula to this studio in the Ghent area of Norfolk. With a little planning, the trip across the bridge/tunnel is kept to 35-40 min. So worth it to allow our daughter the best ballet training in SE VA.

I just started an adult ballet class here and it's so fun! I danced for many years growing up and when I heard they offered advanced and beginner adult ballet classes, I jumped at the opportunity to get a workout outside of the gym. And man, this is definitely a good workout. I was already sweating after the first exercise. The teachers are really nice and professional. They make it fun, even if you mess up or feel like you have no idea what you're doing. BVI is a very welcoming atmosphere and I look forward to going to ballet classes every week!

The intermediate adult ballet class is perfect for anyone who danced many moons ago and is looking to get back into it! It's challenging enough for both your brain and body but so much fun that you'll forget how hard you're working. Suzanne is an amazing teacher and everyone in the class is welcoming and supportive! I have been taking her class for almost two years and I look forward to it every week. They have an adult ballet class for beginners too! Give it a shot--you won't be disappointed! If your son or daughter aspires to become a professional ballet dancer, this is the place for you. This is the academy that does the Nutcracker performance every year at the Sandler Center in Virginia Beach. Many of the students who attend go on to receive scholarships and have professional careers in dance. My daughter attended BVI for 5 years. She is now in middle school and is leaving the academy because she can't keep up the rigorous dance schedule and take advantage of all of the academic opportunities that she now has in middle school. BVI has a lot to do with why she has so many of these other opportunities. While at BVI, she didn't just learn to dance. She also learned about commitment, drive, perseverance, and discipline. She learned to face disappointment when she did not get the parts that she wanted. She gained confidence by performing in front of thousands of people over the years - from big stages to nursing homes. She had a once in a lifetime opportunity to dance for a packed house at the Scope with the Dance Theater of Harlem. This training is the kind of thing that has led to her taking the SAT test as a 6th grader (a 12 year old sitting for a 4 hour exam). The teachers at BVI are amazing. They are very kind and supportive but they do mean business. The students are awesome as well and, the parents are a fairly tight knit group that is supportive of all of the kids, not just their own. No evil dance moms/dads here. These are the kinds of kids that you are glad to have your kid hang out with. I can't say enough good things about BVI. One family moved from Connecticut to Hampton Roads just so their daughter could attend. It is that good.
