An amazing collection of classes, accommodations and meals all in one place. Nightly entertainment programs as well. Definitely a summer camp style so nothing is fancy. My blacksmithing and my wife's cooking classes were fantastic. A massive amount of projects for a week. The room options are very varied. We bought the highest and were very happy. Fairly expensive, so we will probably rent a nearby cabin, not associated with the school, the next time we go. Wi-Fi is slow and limited to the main building only. Very limited cell phone reception. Meals are fairly plain in a cafeteria style. The do cater to all food allergies and preferences with specially prepared food. 10/2014 update: Did a dragon/bear/horse ... head smithing class and loved it. Stayed off campus this time and had a better time with less money. Just stayed in one of the local rental cabins found with one of the for rent by owners sites.

Super place to learn arts and crafts, bond with nature, and make friends with all kinds of people from all over. The setting is beautiful, the food is good, and the living is easy. Come have fun with us. My husband and I will definitely be returning to Brasstown and the Folk School.

Good place considering the education you're getting is often lost crafts/arts. On that aspect it's 5 stars. However, what I didn't realize is the "community" element to it...not that is bad. But, if you're expecting 10 hours of class you're wrong. For a standard week long course, in reality you'll have only 4 and half days of class. And be aware that these folks are fans of unlocked doors, so if you have valuables don't bring them. And be advised that depending on the course you take, there may not be that much actual "instruction." These courses are more geared to retirees and hobbyists.

The John C. Campbell Folk School is one of the most unique, warm, and inviting places on the planet. There's something here for everyone: dances, concerts, classes, food, and (most importantly) friends. Things to check out when you visit: a contra dance at the Keith House, the Brasstown River Walk, all of the craft studios...

Great place to spend some time! Great staff

If you are in the area, get off the highway and seek this place out. (The signs on U.S. 64 are not plentiful. But look for the brown-and-white directionals.) A gift shop to kill for. Yeah, killer prices, too, but cheaper than what you'd pay at some galleries. Seriously, if you are looking for that special gift, you need to check this place out. Pottery, lamps, jewelry, textiles, sculpture, leatherwork, etc. -- all hand-crafted. You'll easily spend the better part of an hour being surprised by one beautiful thing after another. Pretty campus to walk around too, with great views of the mountains surrounding the valley.

Thrllled to see that JCCFS is ADULT ONLY. Children are generally too immature to maintain the focus necessary to warrant the time spent on teaching them 'folk studies'. Also, because they are too young to be able to pay for the classes themselves they are less likely to apply themselves - until the fee's come out of their own wallets they will not be appreciative of the expenditure required to gain their access, and would therefore simply be disruptive to the learning experience. Thank you JCCFS for offering ADULT ONLY education in folk studies.
