i did the summer intensive, the only teachers i think actually cared about teaching us were Karen the modern teacher and Lisa the jazz teacher, i really liked them! but all of the other teachers had bad attitudes and they were always late! also the ballet teacher fractured my foot because she is so rough! it was NOT a good experience, but i did lean some useful stuff but i would NOT recommend!

I learned of the business using ClassPass. Beginners Tap was the class I signed up for while using ClassPass. Once I ended my class pass account I wanted to continue taking the tap classes so I purchased a package of 5 classes with taxes the total came up to $95. The cashier told me that he can only enter in the classes as single classes ( the reason was unclear). I attended two of the five classes that were purchased in June. I went today 7/30 to take one of the remaining 3 classes and I was told that my classes expired. I asked to speak with someone about this "policy" if you don't use the classes with in 30 days they expire...which was not clear at the time of purchase. I explained that I was not told I would not only be able to take a class but I would also loose my money as well. I was rudely told by a white girl with short red hair (I forgot to get her name) that that's the policy it's online. I checked online and did not see where that was mentioned. Then she said it was on a paper schedule...I was not given a paper schedule explaining the policy at the time of purchase nor was it explained to me by the cashier. Not only was it extremely frustrating to learn that I would be loosing approximately $60 but to be talked to in such a nasty tone by the staff added insult to injury. I was just given a card to call the director of operations on Monday and eye rolls. I've already started a dispute claim against this company with my bank and I will be calling the director about the rude staff as well.

It's fun to dance with REAL ADULT DANCERS and not just kids. The men are very inspiring in class. I love to watch them jump! Such power.

Honestly was so excited to try out the class but ran into MTA problems so ended up running late. Kindly asked if it would be possible to go in and the girl (white girl with short curly red hair) in the front met me with zero understanding. My friend from inside the class received instructor’s permission to pull me in but she still insisted I can’t go in. What happened to being understanding to one another and showing sympathy. I even asked her if she could mark me present so classpass wouldn’t charge me and she basically said it’s not her problem. Experience completely ruined. UPDATE: I am sitting here waiting for my friend to finish the class and the girl legit walked by me and stuck her tongue out at me? Is she ok? She also allowed someone else be late? But insisted I couldn’t go in?

Very serious dance studio. I went for a drop-in introduction to ballet class, and it was wonderfully intense. The teacher had excellent form and assisted the class with perfecting theirs, without being overbearing or aggressive. Some of the studios face the beautiful Ansonia building as well.

I took the introductory tap class with Andrew. It's billed as appropriate for people with little or no dance experience. Andrew is a great teacher and creative choreographer the class routines. He also teaches tap history which is fun. But the class is NOT for non-dancers like me.... the pace is way too fast. I recommend for dancers and performers but not for the average beginner.

I enjoy the adult ballet classes. However, I've noticed absolute newbies to ballet struggling in even the Basic Beginner Ballet Class designed for those with no experience, as it moves quickly, and there is not enough thorough instruction for them. Most mirror movements at the bar from more experienced students, but there is no direction or explanation in terms of pulling up properly, creating muscle tension, etc. Also, the music is not live like at other studios, but a taping which inhibits the instructor from fully engaging with the students, i.e. walking around to correct form.

I am thrilled with the school at steps. my child started here at 3 and it's a wonderful.environment. I am in awe of her teachers. not only are they clearly talented dancers but they are also fantastic at working with young children. the live piano player bring a playfulness to the class that my child loves. be warned - there's no place to watch the kids, just one class at the semester are parents allowed to watch! but the waiting area is perfectly comfortable although often crowded with strollers. as long as my child is interested in dance, we be going to steps! the door to the elevators is in between Fairway doors, it came be a trick to find. For young kid classes tale the elevator or stairs to the 4th floor and find the front desk up there for info

My sister’s wedding was very near and I want to perform the best at the function. This dance studio helped me a lot! I only have joined the classes for 1 week and everyone has loved my performance!

Amazing dancing school with terrific teachers. My two daughters took open classes there for years. Well, one of then, is still taking classes once in a while in this school. Ms. Carpenter is an excellent ballet teacher. We met her long time ago in another dancing school. She went to Steps on Broadway, and we followed her. After all, she also was my daughters private teachers. Any way, This school is wonderful with nice studios, excellent teachers, and very attentive and helpful staff.

I took the beg ballet class with Japanese Teacher Hara ,but totally disappointed, if you ever take the ballet class before at least 3~4 years, you gonna understand how unprofessional she is, Just playing around with you,and you gonna wasting your time , she’s focused on to one Japanese girl student in entire class, correcting her every mistakes at the time, but other students seem like doesn’t really matter , so class actually about beg advance ballet, because of that Japanese girl, she’s mixed anyway, not recommended her teaching method .

Steps is what everyone dreams of when they want to "dance in NYC". Old school French doors are so welcoming and the dancers at the reception desk know what they're talking about. I started taking Kathryn Sullivan's beginning ballet (after years of not dancing... Turns out it's not at all like riding a bike!) and her class is so good, I can't recommend it highly enough. She breaks down every pattern so clearly and makes very insightful and helpful corrections. Tango class on Sunday afternoon is also wonderful and really suitable for all levels. I didn't know what to expect going in there but I was immediately welcomed into class and put at ease. Some people complain about the support beams in the middle of the room but if you can dance, you can dance around them! I've never had a problem with it. Plus, if we want easy we wouldn't be dancers in the first place!

Though the place doesn’t seem super nice, I took an advanced beginner Hip Hop class and it’s awesome. Definitely not for beginners or anyone without professional dancing training (including myself) though - I was intellectually and physically challenged in a delightful way while confidence was shattered lol

Great teachers and a great variety of classes. They are a serious school but also appropriate for a recreational dancer who has a mind to improve. This is a terrific place to take if you like tap, ballet, jazz, and especially musical theater. If you are coming from out of town, be sure to take an easier level class than you usually do because classes in NY are higher level than other places; move up if you are comfortable.

Great environment, with some of the best teachers offering training to all! Some classes can get quite crowded, which is the only reason this gets one star less from ideal. But if you're lucky, you could be one of 8-15 dancers in the room, ultimately getting more attention and guidance. Also great if you want to keep yourself sharp and in shape. A lot of professional encounters, as they come by here as well. Took class with Misty Copeland, Wendy Whelan, Irina Dvorovenko, Joy Womack... truly inspiring!

Dishonest and shady business practices! Hi, Steps! It's me. I'm sure you'll remember my complaining about this several times, but no matter how high I took this, it fell on deaf ears. Why did it never occur to me to just post an honest revue? So my nephew came to visit New York for his tenth birthday. I thought it would be fun to take him for a tap class in the big city. I studied tap for years. So did his mother. So did his grandmother. I really wanted to share this with my nephew! Okay some things to know here: • He was TEN years old (to the very day). Now I know what you're thinking... "But they don't teach kids that young!" BINGO! You are correct! Ohhhhhh, but wait! It gets better! • This was his absolute first dance class ever. EVER!!! And so we took an "Absolute Beginners" tap class and I made sure the staff knew it was his first class. Ready? Now that you're armed with that knowledge, here we go... Having looked at their schedule and called ahead to ask their input, they recommended the "Advanced Beginners" class. I told them this was my gift to him for his 10th birthday. We arrived. We checked in. The young lady at the front desk wished him a happy birthday. I made sure she knew he was ten years old and that it was his first dance class ever. She assured us the teacher would take great care of us. The teacher welcomed us with enthusiasm. He wished my nephew a happy 10th birthday. I made sure to remind the teacher that, while I've had a few years of tap, this was my nephew's absolute first dance class ever. He assured us we'd be fine. There were two adult women still in the room having completed his previous tap class. FOR WHATEVER REASON...... the teacher let the two women stay in the room -- for the entire class -- and just do their own thing over in the corner. ......ahem........ This isn't ballet. This is freaking TAP!!!!!!!!! So here my nephew is at his first tap class ever, and while trying to hear the teacher and pick up his instruction, there are two women stomping out Morse code loudly in the corner for the entire class. Like...... The ENTIRE class! Yes, at every! given! moment! While my nephew struggled to concentrate over the dissonance, we started to learn the very basics of tap. Listen. I'm not an absolute beginner. I've been to many a tap class at various levels. THIS WAS BEYOND ABSOLUTE BEGINNER! The teacher was giving us an entire combination which frankly, even I struggled to pick up without making a few mistakes. At a certain point my nephew just kinda gave up and spent what must have felt like hours just waiting for it to end. The teacher noticed my nephew wasn't getting it. But he just pressed on and the teacher just left my nephew in the dust. My ten year old nephew left that room embarrassed and feeling like a dummy. To this day, it embarrasses him to talk about tap. He "doesn't know where" the tap shoes are that I bought him. So when I called them later that week, guess what they told me? "Well...... We don't TEACH kids as young as 10." Okay. Well then we should have been told that BEFORE you took our money! I was told they can't give a refund and that if I want a refund, I should email the management. So I did. Same response. "We never teach kids that young." WELL, YA DID!!!! So...... where does that leave us? I told them the whole story. They KNEW the kid was ten. They KNEW this was his first class ever. They even recommended this exact class based on his age and expecrience level. So I don't know who or where the ball got dropped in your estimation, Steps on Broadway, but you dropped the ball. And when I asked for a refund? MULTIPLE TIMES. "No." I was told "We can't." Oh really.... You "can't"??? As if it were the law of gravity, there is no conceivable way to honor your word by returning the money, for which we received LESS than no value? I won't bore you with the details but I called. I emailed. Several times. Steps hasn't budged. Steps would RATHER clench that $40, knowing it was earned by sabotaging a child's introduction to dance.

It's a great studio for professional dance students and professionals. When you come in, you must have professional attitude about yourself. I think many would criticize this studio because of how challenging it can be, but if you come in with wrong approach, you get wrong result. After being student at Ivy League, I can say I was comfortable there as atmosphere is identical. They have a great range of classes and I love working with faculty there. They are highly supportive. This studio also has work study program, which is great way to be able to afford classes there. Addition: you will run into students there who have an attitude problem, but they are not what this studio is about. Just ignore them.

I only attended one class here (Beginner Modern - Horton), whilst on vacation. The class was pretty strenuous for me, but I found the teacher to be friendly and encouraging. At $17 for a 1.5 hour class it's also excellent value. All the staff were polite and helpful and I had such a good time! Thanks.

The last time I attended this studio was 4 years ago. Back then I really loved the classes (especially ballet); having a dance background the lessons were still a good way to keep up with choreography and technique. I even recommended the school to my mother who also enjoyed the classes (having no prior dance knowledge before). After spending 4 years abroad and coming home for mother’s day, my mother was really excited to attend another dance class together. She choose and we signed up for the flamenco........... WAS THAT AN EXPERIENCE!!!! The beginner flamenco, which I thought would simply be good fun, turned into a choreographed dance. The teacher was extremely rude to my mother who ended up leaving the class. I have a dancing background (which I previously mentioned) and I am Russian, therefore, I do understand that some dance teachers can be a bit abrasive. HOWEVER, what was supposed to be a fun mother - daughter experience turned into me having to RAISE MY VOICE to a teacher because he was adamant that my mother’s “dance lines looks as though she was walking on the street”. The teacher did not reprimand my mother once but ABOUT SEVEN TIMES (which was such a hard thing to witness). Nothing like that should happen in a dance class. She now has no passion to ever try dance again at that studio and it’s heartbreaking. Dance should be enjoyed BY ALL PEOPLE NO MATTER THEIR SIZE, SPEED, OR ABILITIES!!!!

OK for classes. Would not recommend the conservatory! The conservatory director is horrible. You will not get any benefit from this program. Don't waste your money !

Five stars for Charles Goddertz! His tap dance classes for beginner and advanced beginner are the best! He’s always very nice and patient. I miss his class. :) (I’m from Taiwan
