This school is not only a safe zone but a studio that teaches the trues values and intelligence of what it takes to become a dancer. They share such a strong and genuine passion with their students. Being a part of this school has turned me and other students into superstars of dance and superstars of awareness. A skill that the average person lacks. This school is real and true to what they teach, and they will welcome you with open arms and a home and place to be truly expressive.

Great instructors and program. The dancers are hardworking, disciplined, and technique is of the highest caliber. What I love is they also focus on the artistry and passion of the dancer, as well as creating beautiful stewards of fellowship among the local community. I have taken wonderful classes from both Barb Valles and now Luana Hildago and they both provide amazing, challenging and rewarding classes. My daughter is also an intermediate student in their student level division and she has enjoyed her classes and feels the classes give her consistent challenge to work to at every level. We have been very happy here can't wait for fall season to start back up.

Located in the Tampa Palms area, Americas Ballet School has been in existence for more than ten years and has been the place where young dancers receive serious training in the art and discipline of ballet. The school was created by Paula Nunez, who has had an illustrious career as a ballet dancer and has a vision to spread appreciation and love for this art form. Students start at a very young age and progressively learn the discipline of ballet as they stretch, condition, work at the barre and at the center. The focus is on building and reinforcing classical technique. In the early years, young dancers learn to build habits and behaviors that will define their path for future success. In the intermediate years, students build on this developing repertoire of knowledge and skills as they work on pointe and refine other technical aspects of the art. Finally, in the advanced and pre-professional levels students see full culmination and development of what is known as the “ABS style” - a unique combination of technique and art. Advanced dancers also receive training in the contemporary dance style to be able to extend their enjoyment and understanding of dance. Dancers from the school are currently performing in several professional ballet companies around the globe, pursuing dance as an academic major, and competing and winning at major national and international competitions. Additionally throughout the year, dancers from different levels perform at various community events to share their love for classical ballet. Each year productions from the school show the development and manifestation of the “ABS style” which is a unique combination of grace, technique, passion, and artistry.

Unfortunately my experience with this dance school was not so wonderful. Sure if you are a competitive dancer with a lot of money to spend on private lessons, the school will cater to your every need, but for myself, who simply wanted to get my daughter into an intermediate dance class as a hobby, it has been headache after headache. I registered my daughter for the ballet program in November 2012. She was put into an intermediate class that was scheduled for Mon, Tues, and Thurs. Over the next three weeks I would drop my daughter off to find that the teacher did not show up for class, or class has been cancelled, or the schedule has been modified. This did not just happen once or twice, this happened on a weekly basis. Then the school was closed the whole week of Thanksgiving, and after that there was no set schedule anymore and I had to call on a daily basis to ask if my daughter had class that day. The staff promised me this would change in Jan where there would be a "definite" set schedule that we could depend on... did this happen, of course not... two weeks into the Jan schedule and once again my daughter calls me from ballet to tell me "no class again, they changed the schedule." I call again... to find out that yes, there is again a new schedule. So we adjust our lives to accomodate the new schedule changes, and not to mention all the money lost for classes that were cancelled or a schedule changed so my daughter arrives to watch the class she was "supposed to know about" ending. Then today it happened again. My daughter goes to dance to learn the class was an hour and a half earlier because something with the teacher wanting to spend time with girls who are in competition, therefore pushing the non-competition class out of the schedule. So I call and find out that yes... another schedule change because of the upcoming dance competition... no they cannot let me know for sure what the schedule for the next week will be.... *sigh* I don't know about you, but I have three children and a very busy schedule. I need a dance school with classes that I can depend on. I understand the occasional teacher being sick, or a class cancellation... but this school is a complete and utter mess with regards to their class times. The inconsistency of the scheduling has left me beyond frustrated and paying for classes than my daughter cannot attend because they change on a week to week basis. My daughter has been in ballet, and other activities, since she was three and we have never experienced such chaos in a school ever. It is unprofessional and disappointing because the classes are very good.... if you can manage to actually catch one with all the changes! This school could be a gem, but unfortunately I will be pulling my daughter out as I cannot keep playing catch up with their constant scheduling issues.

Absolutely love the welcoming atmosphere. The instruction is classical ballet and the instructors and creative director are great! My daughter’s passion and skill level has improved.

As a former semi-professional ballet dancer myself, I was very excited for my daughter to attend this school and learn serious ballet technique but after 10 months it surprised me that no fundamentals were taught in the first year of ballet. When a class is only 45 minutes and they spend 20 minutes stretching (something they can do at home) it felt as though they were just biding their time with the younger students and taking our tuition money to fund the advanced class and company. Not only that, but they many times would cancel her class for demonstrations or make-up tutorials for the performance; all things that should've been done during rehearsal time and not repeatedly during my daughter's paid for class time. When I confronted them about this, they made many excuses about how this is part of the students experience and how it's good for them to watch the older kids dance. While that maybe true, I still paid for a class my daughter didn't receive. It even brought her to tears one day when I told her she wasn't going to dance that day after watching the "demonstration". The advanced students of the school are incredibly talented and very well trained but there's a huge disconnect from the rest of the school along with this feeling of financial greed. I don't think I received one email in regard to anything other than financial donations, purchases or fundraising. I'm sorry to say it, but we were extremely disappointed in the school. It's unfortunate that they are not utilizing their great teaching ability throughout the school in a more fundamental and productive way.

This is THE best ballet school in Tampa. A very challenging but also encouraging environment. If you want your children to become outstanding dancers send them here...no fluff, just excellent ballet instruction.

If you want your children to learn and LOVE classic ballet then this is the perfect school for you. I have been in another school before and you don't get the same quality of teaching that you get at ABS. I have two daughters and they both absolutely love their ballet classes, teachers and friends. I have seen during the years how young children become extraordinary dancers and be role models for the generation behind them....I love all the faculty, very dedicated, experienced and caring for the safety of all the students. Wonderful environment.

ABS is the best ballet school in Tampa hands down. When I first moved to Tampa I searched for a ballet school for months and as someone who has danced ballet their whole life finding the right school was essential to me. I'm proud to say I've been with the school for 9 years now and I couldn't be happier. I enlisted my two daughters shortly after me and they love to dance at ABS. I know it is something they will enjoy for many years to come and personally knowing many of the teachers I know how professional and dedicated they are to the art of dance. This school's program is made to train great ballet dancers from the beginning to the end.

I started at America's Ballet School at the age of 11! I remember doing karate next door and afterwards I would go and watch my older sister dance next door at ABS and i would always be so intrigued by the athleticism, and grace of all the dancers! So i decided to start ballet at 11, it was one of the greatest decisions of my life. I learned how to stay disciplined and focused and how to always believe in myself even when things get really challenging. ABS was my family for 8 years, and taught me so many life lessons! Thanks to the amazing dance training I got from all the amazing teachers at ABS, I received a scholarship to study at the University of Southern California's Glorya Kaufman School of Dance as a BFA Dance major! - Brandon Carpio (ABS Graduate of 2015)
