They have a good selection of clothes (even for a guy) and friendly employees (certainly). Don't believe the haters, just go check it out yourself. Or don't go. I don't care.

And I will never shop there and I only went in once and that is how bad these workers are!!!! Your store sucks and everyone I know is hearing about it. I’ve taken clothes into Plato’s several times over the couple of years. I always have an extremely positive experience. The girls at the counter are always kind and helpful. I read a lot of negative reviews about the store not buying people’s clothes. I’d like to clear something up: I almost never have brand name clothing, but my clothes are always freshly washed and in really good condition. Most of the time I’m bringing in items from Target or Gap, and I have gotten anywhere from $100-$300 each time I visit. Every time I finish a buy one of the girls asks, “Do you have any questions about pricing or why we didn’t take certain items?” Say YES! They always really nicely explain exactly what I was paid for each piece or why they didn’t take certain items. Half the time items weren’t taken just because they aren’t accepting them at that time (e.g. they already have too many dresses in inventory—in that case I just bring it back in a couple of months!). I have had such awesome experiences with this store that I feel like a lot of other reviewers have unreasonable expectations about what Plato’s can accept. Remember: this is a business that’s built on buying clothes and selling them to others at a markup. You aren’t going to get more than a couple of bucks for a $10 t-shirt, but that’s the whole reason I was able to snag a pair of BKE Jeans for $30!

First off, I love Plato's Closet. I just don't love this one. I have shopped at Plato's Closet for years and I always recieved excellent customer service at those other locations. I have not once recieved good service from Rapid City. I'm a stay at home on a budget and love fashionable clothing. That is the only reason I return. But I read of a store called Clothes Mentor that may have to be my new stop which is similar to Plato's. Rapid City Plato's Closet employees can be quite rude. They get annoyed when asking for dressing rooms. They do not greet you. They chat very loudly about their personal lives. They just seem so cold and miserable any time they have to deal with a customer. Very rarely do I get a genuine smile. I was also reading other's reviews on here and this poor girl was very upset and rightfully so because she had made several trips to pick up her items she had brought in. No one would help her. She explained in great detail what had happened. The owner replied to her review and did not even acknowledge the issue and instead spewed an explanation of why they didn't make a purchase on her clothing which wasn't the initial problem in the first place. I can tell this place is under poor management/ownership. If you read all of the replies from the owner to the reviewers they do not appear to be very authentic apologies and she is very defensive but in an offensive manner and even came off as rude - you know, the passive-agressive or "politely being mean" way. If someone has had a bad enough experience that they feel the need to write a review in full detail - in several paragraphs - you need to not badger them with excuses and fake apologies. Take full responsibility and make it right. I still love "Plato's Closet". I'm just disappointed in this one. I don't want to stop shopping here but if I'm leaving unhappy due to poor service and unfriendly employees every visit then it will be hard not to.

I found the customer service to be a zero in all honestly. First, after registering and walking around the store for 15 minutes, I look up front to see two of the staff taking snapchats and the rest behind the counter in a circle talking, all while my our clothes sit on the counter. So eventually they get around to checking out our clothes. After about 45 minutes I go stand at the counter as the gossip continues. When I finally receive the notification that they’ve completed our order, they tell us they’ll buy 4 worm out items from Target for $12, but not the pink, urban outfitters or A&F clothes. Their loss. And really I feel most for the owners, as the representation they’ve got working for them is embarrassing, and has got to be costing them business. Really the whole experience was a joke and a waste of time.

First, I’m not much for making bad reviews or making reviews in general, but from what I witnessed today was disrespectful and unprofessional. Me and my girlfriend were shopping minding our own business when a lady walks up to her and then asks to talk to her for a moment. My girlfriend has worked for this lady before and the job was very unfair but I’ll get into that eventually. Anyways, in my head I think wow, how nice maybe the owner is just catching up with her and they are just having a normal conversation. No, the owner tells her to remove some bad “reviews” that she made because it was “unfair”. She made one review and it was a just a one star review and that was all. I’m sure anyone reading this has maybe made a bad review somewhere, but has the supervisor ever told you to remove it because it was “unfair”? After everything she has been through working for you I think that the most she could give is a one star review. I mean the reason she was having trouble working for you is because her own coworkers would make fake google accounts and you would believe it. There’s no real hard evidence she did any of what she was accused of. She went through hell emotionally working for you and I felt bad for her the whole time because no one deserves to be treated like the way she was treated. For someone in a position that you are in I would believe there would be some amount of acting professionally but today I was disgusted and my girlfriend was very disturbed as anyone would be, not one time has she had one good experience at one of your stores as a customer or employee. I hope that people read this and stay clear of you and your stores. But I do have some advice for you. Chill out. Stop believing everything you see on the internet and as a human being you really need some milk

If you aren’t a size 6 and below they look at you like you are strange. Completely messy, the worst Plato’s closet I’ve ever been in. Music was so loud I couldn’t hear myself think, it’s crammed and crowded like sardines. Parking is terrible. If I didn’t have to give it a star I wouldn’t. I would rather drive to Denver and go to those ones.

I have been saving up my old clothes for about a year now, and when I went with my mom to give her clothes to Clothes Mentor, they gave her 75$ for 4 bags of clothes, and it made me realize that it was time to get rid of my clothes as well, so I went to Plato’s Closet. I gave these teenagers 5 bags of clothing, and waited in the store for 35 minutes. When they called me up to the counter, they had collected 27 items of clothing, but only gave me $8.57... I wish I would have just donated my clothes.

I have sold to them several times and they are particular about what they accept according to their needs and condition standards. I understand that not everything I bring in will be purchased. The staff seems happy and friendly. I am usually approached on the floor while shopping if they can start me a dressing room.

I loooooove shopping here and almost always leave with something every time I come. However it is kind of hard to sell things here. I have tried many times to sell brand name things that are very nice and they very rarely buy anything. I understand sometimes they have to be super picky but it's becoming a waste of my time to even try and bring stuff. Tonight I tried to bring clothes in a half an hour before they closed and was turned away. Honestly I get that it's a little inconvenient to come in that late but it doesn't say on their sign or website that 830 is too late to bring stuff in to sell.

Horrible!!!! WOW! Where do i begin..I will TRY make this short and sweet. A full box of clothes to drop off plenty of designer brands and regulars like new. Horrible customer service not only to your guests but to the employees too! It was the most worst customer experience a person walking into any business in Rapid City could have (I will add this is my first online review and I am 27 years old). The lady I was working with wasn't wearing a name tag, I can see with an attitude like that I would be embarrassed! I know her name but that is irrelevant at this point. They told me 30 mins so I came back in thirty mins....NOTHING......I waited and came back in an hour...still nothing...no one spoke to me (there is a board they write your name on)...NOTHING....where is the customer service?!!!!? after roaming the store for about 15 mins waiting for the one who took my items or one of the associates to address me but....NOTHING...I finally stand in line and inquire...more attitude...mind you, I do mind my manners...NOTHING... Are you all prejudiced? What is going on there?? Literally I got NOTHING the entire trip.....An entire box of clothing to wait around and make two different trips to your store and NOTHING $0.00. On the other hand I brought a box just as full with same brands etc. to CLOTHES MENTOR here in Rapid City and not only were they professional with great warm customer service, but I received $122.47!! I would recommend anyone to just save the trip and the TIME go to CLOTHES MENTOR. I will also add Clothes Mentor kept my clothes overnight seeing as I live across town, I was able to come get them at my convenience Plato's Closet will give you an attitude, make you feel awkward, keep you waiting for hours and give you no money. I WILL NEVER TAKE MYSELF OR FAMILY BACK TO THAT PLACE OF BUSINESS. Oh and if you are of any ethnicity rethink your self. The comments seem to be a reoccurring issue

The staff upon entrance was nice in the fact that they greeted us and were prompt in helping get our clothes on the counter. That's where it ended. After we returned, we were handed back about 75% of what we brought in and told that it "didn't fit their age demographic". After reading a couple previous reviews, I would concur that if you're 30 or older, don't bother going in the front door. The young staff that works there will treat you like you have no clue and low ball you on the offer for the clothes (if they accept any of it). Apparently, they only want big name brands with tags still on them. Will NOT go back, especially to do buy anything.

Trying to sell stuff here is a joke. You bring in brand new pairs of pants and brand new $100 pair of shoes and they say the stuff looks outdated and "worn". It's BRAND NEW. Yet they have stuff that looks 20 years old and in way worse condition that they are selling.

Two days ago I would have rated it at 4 maybe stars, the workers were friendly and when I asked about their buy back list they were very help full. However, when I went in today to sell some of my items (an entire basket) not one item was chosen, I was expecting a few to be looked over. But not the entire basket. They told me it was because of "natural wear" or that they were "no longer in style"; I have purchased all of the items within the past year, and some of them I had only worn once. They also had said that there was a need for men's clothing, but all of the men's clothes I had brought in were denied. If they are going to deny so much, an explanation should be given and not just given verbatim of what is on the website.

I always like to give credit where credit is due, and Plato's Closet, Rapid City surely deserves it! I love that I can literally find every brand known to man here, and it's super affordable. I've always had friendly employees help me whenever I shop! In fact, one of them, I believe her name was Alejandra, helped me find the perfect outfit to wear the other day! It's so nice to shop in a store that is clean, organized, and fairly priced. I am soooo happy that Rapid City has a Plato's Closet! I am definitely a customer for life!

Clothing is a bit outdated. Don't recommend selling on trend clothing. If you're more into early 2000s clothing or a mom trying to be "hip", this is the spot. Will be better off selling your clothes on your own if you want to not get ripped off. Some of staff is nice though.

I went into the platos closet with around 60 shirts. they looked through them and only wanted one shirt. they told me that they already had shirts like mine in the back waiting to be put up for purchase. and they were too plain. which is not true my shirts are very nice I buy my clothes from the mall. while the woman next to me who was white, had alot of clothes not even good as mine and they bought all her clothes. I feel these people are prejudice, and didn't want to buy my clothes because I am a native american! I will never go back to this store ever!! I’m getting real sick of how picky Plato’s is. I brought in pretty much brand new clothing (worn maybe once or twice) and they act like they’re too good because “it’s just not styles that are selling” even though I picked it up from the mall a month or so ago. My boyfriend bought some shoes from them, took them home and decided they weren’t very comfortable a few days later, we go in and he fills out a return form, and they tell him they can’t take it because it is missing the tag?! I brought in 4 bags of clothes and shoes. I was quoted 30 minutes and waited for almost 1 hr and a half. Upon getting there, I grabbed a pair of shoes and went to get my buy and pay for my shoes. I was quoted $3 for 1 pair of jeans. They passed on name brand clothes or clothes that I have bought there. I walk out of that store feeling like my items are not good enough, or they that my style is ugly. I do not recommend selling to this store...

Not impressed first time and last time. I had many items in great condition some items still had tags on them. I watched the kid go through my clothing never looked at anything but some jeans never told me why they didn’t except the clothing other than they never even looked at the clothes. Throw them back in the basket in a mess. Web site clearly states in need of plus size clothing.

I have always loved platos closet. Everywhere I have lived, I sold and shopped there. This one in particular has problems pricing. I went in there not too long ago to look for active wear ( I heard they had a selection) and seen it was in my opinion ridiculously priced. There was a pair of American eagle sweatpants that were obviously several years old and faded, asking 10$. I also seen that there were Victoria secret yoga pants that were extremely faded and old looking that was priced at $15. This is the first store I've actually left and not bought anything. I ended up shopping at the mall and spent less with brand new in their clearance and sales. Not going to blame the owner, the employees pick out what they decide to sale from other people.

I too had horrible service. My daughter was trying to get $ together to get to a camp for kids in Denver. She was going to be a leader. I had her go through all her clothing and I took them to Plato. I put them on the counter... I obviously am not a teen or in my 20's... and the girl asked "What age group do these clothes come from" Very snotty. I said from my teenagers closet. I started walking around the store browsing. I wasn't standing right next to the counter the whole time... but clearly in earshot enough to hear "Teenagers? Ya right, probably her lame a$$ closet" to two other workers. When I was called back up to the counter they had taken ONE shirt out of the two bags I brought in. There were Silver jeans in the bag we had bought only 4mos earlier that she had grown out of.. when I pointed them out she said "Those are way out of style". By this time I was irate and told her just to put the shirt back in the bag because I didn't want to do business with her.. or any of the snots behind the counter. I've read some of the other reviews... no store manager... there is nothing that could make this right. Period.

I bought a pair of jeans here. I found out they were men's jeans. I had the tag still on them and had just put them on not even taken out of the house. I had lost the receipt and tried to return them. The lady who I talked to was very rude and said if I still had the receipt it would be fine but since I didn't it was my problem not hers. So she said they would buy them back for $40 less than I paid! Very unhappy with how she delt with it and how I couldn't even get store credit or anything! I am done with this establishment! I'd rather pay the full price for a pair of jeans

I've been in here a few times and the staff seems to be one of their biggest issues. Just a whole bunch of teens that are rude as hell and they'll sit there and ignore you or roll their eyes when you ask them something and they wont tell you or help you. There is nothing for plus sized boys or girls either. Anything they do have are the ugliest things I've ever seen. Rumor has it that the owner also owns once upon a child and I already made a bad review there due to a horrible experience. This owner has absolutely no idea what they are doing. I'm going to continue to spread the word about these ridiculous stores. Completely unprofessional on the owners behalf and the bratty employees.

I have been to bigger cities where fashion is more diverse and accepted. Been to other Plato's where they accept clothes without having a bougie mindset. Majority of my clothes are still in tags as I have a huge collection and only wear my favorites. I too have brought in named brand clothes and been turned away. On one occasion I brought in a watch, still new with tags, and the girl treated me like it was stolen or something. This Plato's is governed by personal opinions/bias on whether clothes should or shouldn't be accepted based from how a person looks. I've read other reviews and held off on posting one of my own because the owners replies are off putting. I have a business degree and as I recall customer complaints were throughly discussed. They should be handled privately and the fact that every negative review is responded to is a sign of defensiveness. It's weird. I will never step foot in this store again. All of my clothes are going to the Goodwill.

Really impressed with this particular Plato's. I love how the clothes are color coordinated and organized by seasons. It's one of the neatest I've been too. Was impressed by how clean the fitting room was. I usually take my shoes and socks off when I try on pants and when I went to put my socks back on my feet they were as clean as they were when I removed it. Thumbs up to the owner and the staff.

Horrible customer service. I walked in and wasn't greeted by anyone. I spotted 3 employees and not one other customer. I had to walk around an employee while she straightened the racks. I had to say excuse me but she didn't budge or say anything until she decided to tell at my kid who went under the rack. She yelled at child in a way only a parent should. She hadn't even given me the chance to scold my child before her. We were in the store for two minutes before I walked out. I won't be back. I will pay full price some where else.

I have always loved Plato's closet...I even worked there with the past owner. And I have noticed that unlike before the change and before I worked there, I use to be able to sell a lot if not all of the clothes that I would bring in there and for a good amount of change. But now every time I go in there to sell clothes I get only a couple of dollars worth for 20 articles of clothing. I don't know what the new exchange rate there has been put into place with the new owner change, but it has become to the point where I don't even want to waste my time or gas.

I originally wrote an unfavorable review of this store based on some initial experiences. Fortunately, the manager worked very hard to turn my encounter from a negative one to a positive. She has also hired new employees who are friendly, professional and honest (Brittney & Kristin). She encouraged me to give Plato's another try, which I did. My experience this time around is so dramatically improved that I have changed my review. The clothes are well-priced for the quality. Hint: They are particularly interested in buying men's clothing!

After waiting 45 min for my box of items to be sorted, they mixed mine up with another customers and paid me for the wrong items that werent mine. I signed a receipt but they didnt bother checking to see if I was recieving the correct amount for the correct items. Not knowing this, I take the money and leave. An hour later, they call and ask me to come back to return the money! Ridiculous and inconvenient. I will not be returning.

My name is Randy and my wife is Christine. We had been wanting to go here and shop for trendy clothes for my wife who loves to shop and finally we both had the day off today (Monday, May 1, 2017) and we decided to go. First, not one person greeted us. Secondly, when I asked for assistance to help my wife with the fitting room I was treated very rudely and again when we checked out. We were constantly watched and treated like crap. I didn't realize my wife's appearance (or my appearance) would have resulted in such rude service. We have agreed that we wont be back.

the customer service there wasn't good at all! one of the cashiers didn't want to give my stuff i just bought. also i hand to help myself to a dressing room i was completely ignored

Most second hand stores don't have a nice selection of plus size clothing but this location does.

Not always the best service, but it is a used clothing store and you don't expect the people at goodwill to say hi to you( plus they often look engaged in whatever task at hand the employees aren't just chatting with each other). I have run into a couple snotty teens but I blame their parents not this store. Disappoints me how rude some of the people are in these reviews! I sell lots of stuff here and when they don't take it they give sufficent reason behind it. 5stars because I see how hard the owner (Callie is it?) tries to follow up with each of her customers:)
