I enrolled my two year old in this center this past September. I explained to the staff prior to enrolling him that my son had never been out of the home since birth and that I wanted to make this transition as easy as possible for him. They ensured me that this case is seen quite often and that they provide a nurturing environment that will enable a smooth transition from home to daycare. Hearing this, and trusting that they are true to their word, I signed him up for 3 half days a week. On the first day, the teacher was absent and there were assistants watching the children. Nonetheless, I dropped my son off and returned at 1pm around the kid's lunch/nap time. When I entered the room and didn't see my son, I asked the assistant where he was. She pulled a stack of cots away from the wall and my son was laying terrified on a cot in some cut out in the wall behind the stack. I almost lost my damn sanity. They (the staff and the director) said that they put kids in this "cubby" when they have difficulty sleeping during nap time as a means of isolating them so that they will not disturb the other children while they are napping. They also claimed that a staff member is supposed to be sitting there with the child so that they will not be alone. This was not acceptable by any means. My son was traumatized by this experience. How can you think that placing a child in some "cubby" unattended will provide a nurturing environment or a smooth transition to the daycare setting. My trust has gone completely out the window with daycare facilities. Had I not come early to witness this I would have never known that this happened to my baby. To this center, a child is just another client bringing in more money, but to me my child means everything. Parents, I implore you to make pop-up visits to ensure that your child is being treated with the same regard you give to your baby....This could have been (or is happening to) your child !!
