This store has the absolute BEST customer oriented people I have ever done business with in 37 years of buying, trading, selling guitars and musical gear. I can't say enough about their relationship to the customer.... and the fairness and pricing is not better anywhere...Steve, Keith - the BEST. Great store. Austin took the time to put together a package (guitar, case, and accessories) that was right for me and made sure I got the best price I could on that day. I spent about 2-3 hours looking at guitars, Austin gave me space but was always close to answer questions or help me find another guitar to try. He was knowledgeable on all the products I looked at, if he wasn't sure about something he took the time to look it up and gave me an answer. Once I was happy with a guitar he helped me find the perfect case and accessories.

Yesterday I went to the Sam Ash store in Richmond in search of a 49-key Midi controller to connect to my computer for use in sequencing and other activities with GarageBand on my Macintosh computer. I had started looking at the devices on display, and soon a young man asked if I needed help. I said yes, and he proceeded to show me the various options, explaining the pros and cons of each. He obviously was very knowledgeable about the items that were available. After a few minutes I reached a decision and walked out with my new controller, which seems to be excellent - an Arturia Keylab 49 Essential. The sales associate was courteous, friendly, informative, and helpful. I will very likely be back for more visits to the store.

This is by far the best music store in town! All the gear you are looking for and more...and sometimes you can find it used at a ridiculously low price! Buddy always seems to be working when I'm in there and always takes care of me. The rest of the staff is great and knowledgeable as well. But because my daughter's a drummer, Buddy is my "go-to" guy. Whether I'm looking to purchase something new or trade in something I don't use anymore, Sam Ash is the first place I think of going even if I have to drive an hour to get there.

These guys go above and beyond to support local musicians. Tuesday is guitar player night where people can get together and jam. Wednesday is open mic night with full PA and sound man. I believe they have a keyboard night. They have a great selection of new and vintage gear. Very down to earth people. Love this place!

Great experience! Grayson, who had just started there apparently, helped me in my guitar purchase. He was very informative in walking me through the promotions they had, as well as the type of guitar I was looking for. 3 hours later and I was trading in 2 guitars for a gorgeous PRS. He didnt hover, allowed me to play some stuff, and was still attentive even through the fact they were VERY busy. The manager, do not recall his name, was extremely polite and helpful while Grayson became busy with other customers. Overall, great team unit here and everybody whom I interacted with seemed they wanted to be there. Cant say the same about another local guitar shop....Fantastic experience here, I look forward to my lessons!

I have to say they are the friendliest and most customer service oriented staff of any music store I have ever known. It is this dedication to their customers that keeps me coming back. Recently I purchased a Steve Vai Jem jr and Steve, who is one of the guitar salesmen, put a new set of strings on the guitar for me, pro bono. The sales staff also made it a priority to find the missing whammy bar (or at least a replacement) without chargung me from their inventory. I couldn’t recommend Sam Ash on west broad enough, so make them your go to music store!

I went in to find a starter instrument, you know, something cheap until I have a feel for what i'm doing. I found a "kit", which I thought was perfect for me. The salesman explained to me how these "kits" are put together, inexpensive and cheap. He directed me towards a little better grade than what I was thinking. I bought each item piece by piece, which by the time I had everything bought I spent less than I would have buying the kit and much better quality items. Thank you for saving me $$!!

In Richmond VA there is a Guitar Center right next to Sam Ash. GC is a little closer to me so I usually pop in there first for convenience. I was looking for a guitar stand and some other stuff. GC didn't have much and I was in the store for several minutes and nobody acknowledged me. To be fair, the guy at the counter was on the phone but he didn't even wave or seem to notice me. Cut to Sam Ash. I walk in and I'm immediately greeted. The guy helping me is really nice and interested in the issues I'm having with my stuff and trying to help me solve it. He is not annoying or trying to push anything on me but he makes suggestions and doesn't antagonize me if I'm not interested. He tries to help me find the best stuff for my needs at the best price. Also, one of his co-workers complimented my Killing Joke shirt so I know that guy has good taste. From now on Sam Ash will always be my first stop.

Started at a familiar music store in the same shopping center because I had never been to a Sam Ash store. I am glad I made sure to check out Sam Ash in Richmond. As soon as i walked in the vibe was clearly different. I have never had a store make sure I played everything that I wanted to try. The questions I had were quickly and expertly answered. (Thanks to James Tunnel.) Not only was he extremely friendly he also did not hover and gave myself and my brother plenty of space to put instruments through the ropes. 8 hours and a lunch break later I finally found a guitar that I wanted to take home. James surprised that we were still playing came through and made a great deal on the guitar I purchased. My brother was just as enthused as I was and ended up making a guitar purchase with James as well. I mention James because I worked with him the most but all of the staff were extremely friendly and willing to help. Look forward to my next visit!

Lots of brand and boutique effects to try, some staff are super helpful without being all up in your business. There's a fair range of guitars, although it's lacking variety, and part of what draws me into a music shop is their used gear. I wanted to point out an incident and how they handled it to show how dedicated to customer service they are at this store. I ordered a pedal that due to a number of reasons (seasonal storms, holiday, manufacturer misinformation, etc), took a really, really long time to get here. Sarah, a Sam Ash store manager, went above and beyond by tracking the item every step of the way and offered me a deep discount on a different item, despite the fact that it wasn't really on Sam Ash for the drawn out mishap. Sarah and most of this store's staff show they want your business and will help in any way they can within reason. My one major bit of criticism is I'd like to see a lot more effects to try out (instead of having to order it to the store) and bigger variety of guitars, particularly Danelectro, Eastwood, Reverend, and baritones in general. A practice room to privately (and loudly) try out some gear would be great, but that's just wishful thinking.

I shop in the Richmond, VA store, managed by Sarah and the whole place is the best shopping experience I have had anywhere for anything at all, in a long, long time. I moved to the area and received a small inheritance. I ended up spending many thousand dollars in this store building a budget home dream hobby studio. After my first shopping trip into this store, I was so impressed by the people and prices in general that I never went anywhere else. They've even won my loyalty from my usual instinct just to buy stuff on Amazon. So now I drive nearly 25 min to go this store for all my musical gear needs just because it feels like "shopping in the old days, when customers mattered" and every time I go, I end up hanging around and going on smoke breaks with the sales reps before I leave, whom I barely know, just because chatting with them during the sale process is always so pleasant and we get into telling road stories and talking about music and stuff. The store has all the things you can buy online for a dollar less and there is a guitar center across the parking lot from them. I've never even gone INTO that GC store, because the sales team at Sam Ash made me feel like family on day zero, BEFORE they knew I was about to spend 6 or 7 grand in their store over the next couple weeks after that. That's how good this store's staff is!

I went to the store on Broad Street in Richmond Va. that sits BESIDE Sam Ash but I bought a guitar and a real nice Road Runner case at Sam Ash and I can tell you, the Superior Customer Service is at Sam Ash! The sales guy was very helpful in selecting a microphone for my iPad mini 4. Best Buy and every other computer stores carry microphones but not like Sam Ash would carry because Sam Ash know how important sound is. If you want quality sound for your video recordings on your computer you better consider checking Sam Ash. The Mic I bought works with my iPad after downloading a free App and works with my MACBook Pro right away without having to download an App. Happy video recording to all the computer people out there and shop Sam Ash even if you are not into musical instruments. Lots of the same recording equipment can be used for computers.

Great place to do business. They price Match nd will take time and check stick to see if the equipment is there before you travel. They will hold it for you if they have it so you travel time is still. It wasted. Once there the ability to try out products and sample other kits helps to make the right decision for that purchase. There trade in process is great for old or broken equipment they will really try to buy all of your equipment just as they said. Do check them out you won’t be sorry.
