I want to write a review of Black Hills Exterior, but I also want to tell others who are new to this whole process what we learned about remodeling as well. First, Chad Enger early on told us we need to find a contractor we can trust. I think that was good advice, because you don’t have all the knowledge you need and you have to rely on your contractor. Chad is entirely trustworthy and extremely knowledgeable. There were many times we asked Chad for advice about some decisions that we had to make and his suggestions turned out for the best of the project. One of his best suggestions was to use a visualizing computer tool to help choose siding, window, trim and roof colors and styles. The time we spent researching the products and visualizing how it would all look together really paid off. Spend the money needed to make the front of your home attractive. Second, you can’t pick the cheapest option every time and end up with something that looks good in the end. Middle of the road is a good option from our experience. We chose quality siding from James Hardie, and fiberglass Pella windows and door, all of which we are very pleased with. Third, Kevin and Joey (subcontractors from Ghost Canyon Exteriors) did a great job in the installation of windows, doors, trim, and exterior siding. You need people who are committed to doing a good job because you can’t watch them the whole time and you probably lack the knowledge to know when someone is cutting corners. Kevin and Joey’s 15 years of experience plus their fine craftsmanship and attention to detail resulted in an outstanding finished product. Black Hills Exterior did a great job and we highly recommend them for your remodeling needs.

Black Hills Exteriors did the roof on my house after it had hail damage from a storm. The representation of the product and service was far better than their competition. I had the job quoted by three other companies. BHE explained all my options and worked with the insurance company directly if needed. The work was done efficiently and looks perfect. I would recommend them and will use them in the future.

I hired this company to replace my roof, gutters, and siding; and to re-stain my decks, and replace my doors. They set up a time to start and did the work fast and efficiently. I paid them as the money from the insurance company arrived. The issue is with the mistakes. Shortly after the initial work was done, the contractor I was working with left the company and I was assigned a new contractor. This contractor called once and left a voicemail stating he is my new contact. I tried contacting him through text and calls, but he never did respond. I tried calling, emailing, and going to the office to try and get these mistakes corrected, but only 1 out of 3 have been fixed. It has been about 3.5 months since the mistakes were made. When they replaced the front door, I also had them replace the screen door. When installing the handle for the screen door, I told them it was too low. I told them this before any holes were drilled or marks made. They never changed the height of the handle before installing it. It took them about 2 months to install a new screen door with a reasonable height placed handle. My back screen door worked before I replaced the door. I bought a door, because the previous one was broken, that was the exact size told to me by the first contractor. Now the screen door keeps getting jammed shut which makes it hard to open. The half attempted to fix it once. This can be considered a fire hazard/risk because it is the only other entrance to the house besides the front door. Another issue is that from the front of my house, it appears the left side shingles are coming up. I have been asking them about this for a few months and still have heard nothing from them to know if it is just an illusion. They haven’t been out here to fix it, if needed, either.
