No one believes me when I relate this tale, but it is true. After ten years a problem with drainage of water developed in the orchid room and the floor sagged. John, who I called to repair the problem, NOT to blame him, looked at the floor and said, “WE must have done something wrong, I will fix this at my cost.” After I got up off the floor and rolled in my tongue, JMC came, and repaired the problem, rebuilt the entire floor and my orchids are still happy; I am DELIGHTED.

I’ve worked with JMC since 1981 on many projects and I keep coming back because of the creativeness, quality of work and professionalism of everyone who has ever been involved. My first project was to close in a screened-in porch with sliding glass doors and JMC had the foresight to tell me to put stronger support beams in while the walls were down because I eventually wanted to add a room above the porch This saved me a lot of money when, a few years later, I added the room above and also made the project much easier to complete. The bedroom we added looks like it’s been part of the house from the beginning and doesn’t look like ‘an addition’. Every project I’ve done with JMC- the porch, additional bedroom and bath, expansion and new kitchen, siding, windows, roof, custom fencing and patio- were all done with an understanding of how we lived in our house at the beach. The design elements matched the need for when we had a lot of company yet minimized the need for a lot of maintenance. JMC completely understood our needs on each and every project and made the implementation seem easy and actually enjoyable! The teams who did the work were very professional, understood the plans and clearly had pride in each of their skills. They treated my home like their own and kept everything very clean, including outside areas which was noted by both of my neighbors. There was excellent communication on all fronts- the team was in regular contact with the office, the supervisors were readily available and very knowledgeable and I was always kept informed of updates and responses to my questions. The teams were very polite and attentive to our needs and they were a pleasure to have in the house. The quality of the work and materials used was excellent and each of the projects was an example of the difference when people have pride in their work. JMC understands how to implement a successful project from start to finish and I have and will always trust them.

Every aspect of JMC’s remodel of our bathroom went as promised. Selecting tile and fixtures in the showroom was convenient, and John and Tammy provided tremendously helpful expertise throughout the design process. The demolition phase was impossibly neat—except for the plastic draped around the bathroom door and the stairway, there was no evidence that any work was being done in the house. Our kids made more of a mess than the demolition team. JMC provided daily updates throughout the remodel so we knew exactly what was going to happen each day. The end result is excellent, due in large part to Mario’s meticulous attention to detail. We plan to use JMC for our next remodeling project and we enthusiastically recommend them to anyone considering home improvement work.

I contracted with JMC to finish our basement. At the time I was pregnant and wanted a contractor who would not only implement the vision that I had for a kid friendly basement complete with soccer field, but I wanted it to be seamless in the coordination between all the different contractors (e.g. electricians, carpenters, flooring, etc.) with little to no effort needed from me. JMC delivered in full on all of it and then some. They coordinated with the town to get all the necessary paperwork and appointments set-up for permits. They brought the flooring options to my house so all I had to do was point and say "this one." The part that I did spend quite a bit of time on was laying out the plans with John. He was very patient and accommodating with all the changes I wanted made and ultimately issued the perfect plans so that all the builders knew exactly what to do. The workers were professional and clean and the workmanship was wonderful. Everything turned out exactly as I expected. I did receive quotes from other companies, and while JMC was not necessarily the cheapest (nor the most expensive), the work they promised, and the timing at which they promised the work done, was done exactly as we agreed upon. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a full service contractor that does excellent work. Very happy with our new basement.

John and all of his team are the best people to work with when you are looking to get any kind of work done with your house. Our side hall colonial house was built in 1918, and we wanted to make sure we worked with people who had experience with old homes. We also wanted to hire someone who would handle the project from start to finish- specifically, deal with obtaining permits, coordinating with plumbers, electricians, dry wall specialists, etc. From the moment we first contacted JMC, we knew we were in good hands. Debbie was the first person we spoke with- she asked general questions about what we wanted done, our budget, and expectations. From that first phone call to the last, she was pleasant and simply a pleasure to deal with. John MacDougall (owner) came out to our home to see the space and get to know us and what we wanted. He walked us through the JMC process, and we could immediately tell he cared,and wanted the project to be a good fit for both JMC and us. Why we hired JMC: their good reviews; we liked that they took care of everything, including materials and design; John is a hands on-owner; they are extremely organized and professional. With JMC, we had a great experience designing our new space. They thought of a way to design the space that we would never have been able to think of ourselves. Every detail was picked in their office showroom- which saved us time and energy! Tammy walked us through it all very logically and guided us along the way. She answered every question we had with patience, and she was wonderful to work with! Jack acted as our project manager, and there isn't a nicer guy. He communicated with us regularly, and we knew our house was in excellent hands. The quality of JMC's craftsmanship was flawless. I am a perfectionist, and came home every day amazed at what I saw. The tile in our bathroom, on the floor throughout the space, and back-splash was literally done with such care and attention to detail, that I am still amazed when I look at it all. We trusted them in our home for 12 weeks, never worrying who was there, or what we would come home to at the end of the day. During the course of the work, they identified a serious issue related to wiring throughout the house, that dated back to the 1918 construction. They immediately notified us, and put us in touch with the electrician that they use for their projects. While it was very upsetting that we had this unforeseen issue arise, the electrical company not only took care of everything (rewiring our entire house), they were just as professional and reassuring as JMC. The extra cost was painful, but putting our minds at ease in making our home safer was worth the price. Overall, we are super happy with our new space and gladly recommend to others. Without a doubt we will hire JMC again. In fact, we have had a few times where we have reached out to them for advice (not related to our renovation), and they were super responsive and helpful. JMC truly cares about their clients long after the project is complete. Their reputation for quality is well-deserved.

John, and his entire staff are always responsive, on time, reliable and skilled. We trust their expertise and rely heavily on their advice. Remodel of Master Bathroom My Wife and I decided that it was time to remodel our master bathroom. We met with several contractors and in the end decided that JMC was the right company for the job. There were a few factors that made us choose JMC which included, being in business since 1977, white glove services and punctual response time to our inquiry. The job took about 3 months from start to finish. During the whole process, the JMC team, especially Greg, who was the onsite improvement specialists, was very professional, courteous and provided updates every step of the way. We have worked with several contractors in the past. One factor that sets JMC apart from the rest is that the owner John MacDougall truly cares about the client experience. After all the work was completed, John made a point to come and do a final walk through of our bathroom and make sure we were a 100% satisfied with the work that was completed. We have previously used JMC for three bathrooms and a major renovation of our kitchen. So we are very familiar with their process and quality. This project involved renovation of a living room with the addition of a fireplace, removal of wall-to-wall carpeting, renovation of the hardwood floors (repair of any damaged wood, staining and refinishing), installation of custom cabinets and floating shelving, and installation of recessed lighting. For those not familiar with the process, it involves a detailed planning stage, followed by a carefully planned implementation. The implementation planning is to ensure time management such that work is going on every day except for inspection days. This has allowed our previous projects and this one to be essentially completed within the original time estimate. At this point I should emphasize that for projects like this in an older house you should expect “stuff to happen” and it’s important to have a good contractor and good carpenters on the job. In this case the issue was installing the fireplace on an internal wall and threading the chimney through the second floor and attic. Our lead carpenter, Tom deserves a “shoutout”, because he was the one who ultimately figured out how to install the chimney with minimal interference on the second floor. We did have a problem with the custom cabinetry, in that the cabinet doors arrived damaged. These were reordered from the manufacturer and had a four-six week delivery time. However the rest of the project was completed on time, and the doors were swapped out later. Bottom line we are very pleased with the work and would recommend JMC for anyone wanting a top quality renovation.

We are thrilled with our choice to use JMC for our Kitchen/living room/dining room renovation. It was a big project that changed 90% of the first floor of our home. WE LOVE IT! We were incredibly nervous to follow through with this project, especially as friends and family each had a "kitchen nightmare" story to tell. We LOVE the way everything turned out, and it is done with QUALITY materials, and the work is done RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. We met many times to go over the designs, process, and other details before the project began. We were given a clear start date, the team started on time, AND FINISHED ON TIME! 7 WEEKS! They came every single day and worked all day! Amazing! Every person who was working in our home was a true professional, expert, and artist. We felt that everyone working on this job cared deeply to do it perfectly, and they were respectful of our home and family. The process was easy for such a big job. (well, easy on us... the team was working very hard!) . We have 2 young children, ages 5 and 2. With 2 walls being knocked down and as I said, 90% of our first floor living space out of commission - plus the basement (we also had a beam installed to move 2 columns) we were nervous. It was easy to live here and feel safe. They cleaned up everyday, sealed off the work space, and most important, were predictable! I couldn't believe how stress free the entire project was, especially after hearing horror stories from friends, coworkers and family. They are the DISNEYWORLD of home improvement. By that mean high quality service, getting it done right the first time, and wanting their customers to be 100% satisfied. They cared as much about the process as they did about the outcome. JMC Kitchen Remodel From project conception to completion, our experience with JMC Home Improvement Specialists of Parsippany was excellent. Every interaction with owner, office staff, site supervisor, and work crews was professional, friendly, and accommodating. Our kitchen footprint did not change, but the definitive 80s almond laminate with wood trim stock cabinets clearly needed replacement, and we got the look and quality we wanted working with this company. JMC owner John MacDougall visited our home and talked about needs, dreams, and options. A visit to the office and showroom gave us the opportunity to meet with Tammy, design expert, who expertly guided us through choices for style, materials, and colors, and soon we were scheduling the four week job to totally demolish our existing kitchen and watch the transformation to the new one. At each stage of the work, demolition, cabinet installation, tile work, plumbing and electrical, we greatly appreciated having one site manager to oversee each crew. Each morning we received a phone call to alert us to the arrival and start time of the day, and without fail, they were there. Our home was treated with care and prepared as well as possible for dust and debris, and at the end of each workday, the entire area was swept and clean when they left. As the job came to its conclusion, there was always a quick response and fix to any of our concerns or problems. At the end of it all, our project came in on time and on budget. We could not be any more pleased with our experience and would highly recommend JMC for any remodeling and construction. Bravo!

JMC Home Improvement Specialists have completed three home improvement projects for us since 2012. The first project was installing a brand-new kitchen. The second was combining two bedrooms into a large master suite, building a wheel chair accessible master bathroom, and renovating another bathroom. The last project involved the retro fitting of our home so a wheel chair lift could be installed. We have been completely satisfied with the work that JMC has done for us over the past 6 years. They are honest, highly professional and creative. They pay attention to every detail and take great pride in their work. The materials they use are of the highest quality. One example is the beautiful custom Kolbe windows that were installed in our bedroom and bathrooms. They were willing to spend a great deal of time with us to assure that we received exactly what we wanted. As an example, the owner John MacDougall, spent several hours with us when we had to choose the glass and wood for the custom doors in our bedroom. He made several trips to our home bringing samples. We were very impressed with their workers. They were all very competent. In addition, they were very patient and friendly. It didn't matter how many questions we had - we always received prompt service. I would like to expand on the creativity of the JMC workers. In renovating an older home there are unanticipated problems that pop up. I will always remember how clever one of the JMC master carpenters was in finding cost-effective solutions when those problems arose. Although a major home renovation can be disruptive, the JMC staff strived to reduce our stress. One example was the careful cleaning of the worksite at the end of every day. Another example was the early morning phone calls we received every morning stating that the crew was on the way to our home. There was never an instance when workers did not show up. Let me end by saying that there probably will be more home improvement projects we will be undertaking in the future. I wouldn't think of letting anyone other than JMC work on our home!!!

We recently had JMC remodel our commercial building. The building is old and had a mix of appearances from being added to over the years. It was long overdue for this renovation! Our first concern was how to approach the project, as it seemed an overwhelming task to us. We contacted JMC who was able to provide everything we needed from design concept to the final renovation! JMC provided us with sketches, 3D designs, and architectural plans so that we understood and could visualize every detail. The entire design process was easy and reassuring! We knew what we were getting before the first hammer was swung! During construction, all of JMC's crew members were a pleasure to deal with. They kept the site not only safe, but clean every day. The men worked EVERY day including weekends (!) to make sure they finished on our required schedule. This was extremely important to us and our reason for choosing JMC. We have businesses that run out of this building, so we needed the project completed on time to not interfere with the businesses. JMC was confident in our timetable and made it work! The final result was amazingly accurate to the plans we were shown. The workmanship is incredible and we get constant compliments from neighbors and friends on how great the building looks. JMC took a worn out building from the past, and brought new life to it, with a fresh look that will last the test of time! I would not hesitate to continue to work with JMC on any projects we are looking to do in the future! They did an amazing job and not only are we happy with the outcome, we also found out that JMC won a design award for our building! Thank you JMC for a job well done!

Two years ago, JMC completed a complete kitchen and bath remodel and then also did a refresh on a full bath and a refresh on a 1/2 bath, plus painting, plus a few misc repairs (1 complete kitchen, 1 complete bath, 1.5 bath refresh, painted whole house, misc. other repairs). I've waited this long because I wanted to see how it stood up to the test of time. Before the remodel - excellent communication, very nice design (their design was why we chose them over others), appropriate selection of choices. During the remodel - yes, of course, I changed things up as we went along in each case they were very accommodating. I never felt at all like they had any other work in progress, I was always the focus during the project. Since I was living their during this, they understood my needs and coordinated which items would be "offline" (ie, always make sure at least 1 shower is available) so that I could stay there. Cannot say enough good things about execution. After the remodel - so far (2 to 2.5 yrs later, depending upon which part of the project) everything has held up very well! I even had two issues (one electrical and one window) that turned out to be completely unrelated to the remodels and they fixed it for free (when is the last time someone fixed something for you for free?). A few things / advice: 1. They weren't the cheapest, but were very close (within 10%). And a lot of times, you get what you pay for. The slight premium was worth the professionalism. That said, a few times they talked me out of a more expensive choice for something, that in hindsight, has turned out to be just perfect. So, not up-sell here! 2. If I had to do it all over again, I would have spent more time looking at/investigating the granite. Maybe even have it brought in so I could see it the space before it was cut. 3. I drove the painter crazy with a billion "could you please put it on the wall so I could see it" ... but I'm glad I did. (She was very accommodating). Unfortunately, since we painted the whole house, I somewhat lost track of which exact colors went where, so, if I had to do it again, I would have been more careful to document exactly what we did, to ease future touch-ups. 4. Since we had the walls down to bare studs in many places, I wish I would have added / refreshed the insulation. I have one exterior wall in particular that we could have made a bit warmer (IMHO) in this way. 5. Draw pulls turned out to be a bit of an issue with our choice of cabinets. Not sure if there would have been a fix to this, but if I had to do it all over again, I might have gotten samples of each to experiment before committing.

After consultation, they produced a design that met our needs and then responded creatively to adapt the design when demolition revealed additional space was available. The work was professionally done and met the high standards we expected. Without fail, workers were on time, polite, and tidy. Good lines of communication were maintained when an unavoidable delay occurred. We particularly appreciated having Rick’s consistent presence onsite as the project progressed. We were delighted with the end result and would feel confident to use their services again.

From the initial consultation, we felt completely comfortable and at ease with John and his detailed and straightforward approach for how the project would unfold. John is an extremely trustworthy person and as such, so are all of the associates who work for him. Tammy is an expert in the design process and instantly connected to our vision. She has vast knowledge in all different types of options for literally every single component of your renovation. He cleaned up every day and when we came home, we could not even tell there was a construction project going on in our home. He is simply fantastic! We would utilize JMC again, without hesitation, for any other remodeling projects. Similarly, we would also recommend them to others for any of their home renovation needs.

John and the entire JMC team are one of the most professional and meticulous contractors I have ever worked with and I would highly recommend them to anyone thinking about doing work to their house. From our initial meeting with John, I was given the impression he took great pride in his work, but once we met with the rest of the team, and saw how they worked, we understood it wasn't just John, but the entire organization. Tammy, JMC's designer, held our hand through the entire design process and made making decisions about the cabinets, flooring, counter tops, etc. a breeze. JMC handled all purchases and deliveries which meant no worrying on our end. Tammy also worked with us through the entire project, making sure we were happy with all our decisions and even showed up to our house to make adjustments halfway through the project after I had called her with a question. Once construction started, we were even more impressed. Jack, JMC’s foreman, was always available if something came up and he went above and beyond to make our kitchen perfect. Their carpenter, Henry, was there EVERY day (which is a shock in comparison to some contractors)! I cannot speak highly enough about Henry, who made sure our kitchen came out perfect. On day 1 Jack showed us a calendar of how the next 6 weeks of work would go, and working in commercial real estate, I thought that there was no way they would keep to that timeline. Amazingly they finished EXACTLY on schedule and I thank Henry, Jack, Tammy and Val (JMC’s painter) for that. Their professionalism, cleanliness, and attention to detail made the entire project as painless as a kitchen remodel can be. I am still in shock how our kitchen turned out and how amazing our experience was with JMC! If you are debating which contractor to use, choose JMC.

We had 2 bathrooms gutted and redone . JMC's people worked quickly , because I had a deadline, and these are the only bathrooms we have . I received a phone call every morning to let me know they were on their way . They cleaned up every day and made sure we had a working toilet for the evening . If I ever need more work done in my home JMC is on the top of my list , I have no need to look any place else

I cannot say enough great things about JMC. From start to finish our project went smoothly and the finished product was everything we dreamed our kitchen would be -- and more! We were extremely impressed with JMC's organization, communication and quality of work. They had permits ready to go prior to starting our job, all materials on site, a clear project timeline and a "jack of all trades" dedicated to our project. JMC Bathroom Remodeling We selected JMC for the remodeling of our three full bathrooms based on customer reviews and personal interaction with the owner John MacDougall. We are very impressed with the quality of work by the JMC team. The crew was always on time. They took all the necessary steps to maintain a clean and dust free environment and always cleaned up the work space and walking areas at the end of the day. We had the crew in the house for over two months and never had any issues. They are very customer oriented. We were also pleased with the performance of Mario and Garry. The craftsmanship and attention to details is excellent. They always involved us in the selection of options for the installation. The project coordinator Jack frequently visited the site and addressed any questions and problems immediately. Issues with the cabinetry and countertop subcontractor were resolved to our satisfaction. Inspections were scheduled in advance to avoid delays and maintain the project schedule.
