Five star Cinderella Kitchen Remodel Plus
I have a lovely gourmet kitchen, guest bathroom and laundry room thanks to the guidance and excellent workmanship of George Trojan of American Building and Design. The main project that George did for us was a large scale, custom-built kitchen with extensive remodel to our 1870 Victorian house. The project was vast in size and included a degree of alteration to every room on the first floor, including basement, and the staircases.
The original space was a mess. There were numerous structural. electrical, mechanical, ventilation, wood rot, and significant settlement issues that George was able to resolve. The floors sloped so badly that they were trip hazards. George removed the old wood planks, evened out the floor, which was no easy task, and installed a stunning hardwood floor.
He also custom-built the numerous cabinets we wanted. He is a master carpenter, and we get lots of wows from our friends and visitors when they see his workmanship.
The kitchen was enlarged by incorporating a full size bathroom, and another small room into the space. George relocated and created a guest bathroom and laundry room on the first floor and renovated the dining area. Not only are the kitchen and dining areas expansive, but there are quality details throughout the remodel as reflected in the door/window casings, baseboard, crown, custom cabinetry, and hardwood flooring.
We were fortunate that George, in addition to being a skilled craftsman, had an architect's eye and remarkable design esthetic for space and functionality. He supplied architectural drawings which allowed us to develop a design that was cohesive, and met our needs while maintaining the home's vintage charm.
A project of this scope, in an old fixer-upper, that included five staircases, bathroom remodel, laundry room, kitchen remodel, and dining room renovation was bound to have challenges and take time. George moved parts of the original kitchen into the dining room area giving us a fully functional kitchen for the duration of the project. There were no roadblocks that he was unable to overcome. George did almost the entire project himself other than electrical and mechanical. He was reliable, and generally showed up at 7:00 a.m., and often worked until 7:00 p.m. later. We spent a lot of time with George during the project, so it was great that he is such an easy-going, congenial guy.
While it was a long process, it was well worth it, and we would do it all over again with George, and we recommend him without reservation.
It has been three years since the renovation, and we are pleased with the longevity of the workmanship. We are still smiling when we walk into and cook in our lovely kitchen.
