Matt's crew did such a wonderful job on our hardwood floors. The guys were super kind and friendly, and I can't even begin to explain how impressed we are with the way the hardwood turned out - it's gorgeous! I had high hopes in my mind for what the floor would look like and they nailed it, from color to finish. There were scratches, divets, and discoloration in the floor that now, I can't even remember where any of that was. They brought our floor back to life and gave it character, all for an unbeatable price!

We needed all floors on main level sanded and the color changed from a reddish color to a more of a traditional brown. We removed 3 existing kitchen islands and needed the hardwood floor repaired/installed in place of the islands. Also had new hardwood floors put into master, living room and another bedroom. Matt also suggested removing the carpet from the stairs and we put in hardwood on the stairs as well (excellent suggestion!) Matt did an excellent job! We've had hardwood floors refinished in other homes that we've owned previously so we had very high expectations for this type of work and Matt exceeded all of our expectations. From scheduling a review of the work we wanted completed, to Matt's seasoned advice on the overall project - we couldn't be more pleased with the end result. Matt was always on time and completed all of the work within the budget and time frame that we agreed to after our first meeting. We considered 2 other larger companies and their pricing was similar to Matt, but Matt provided us with some great references and he was very knowledgeable so we were the most comfortable with him. The other 2 companies didn't have the confidence that they could repair the floors from the kitchen islands that we removed (they said "we will do our best to make it blend in") - but Matt said he would make it perfect - and he did!!! We also liked that Matt was the one doing the estimating and the one actually doing the work so we were confident there wouldn't be any confusion on what was needed. We also just completed our kitchen remodel and we noticed 2 of our new cabinets were smaller than our older cabinets and Matt was able to come back out and repair the newly exposed floor - which was not even in his scope of work (we of course tipped him for coming back out to fix this for us). If you want excellent, timely work that is done professionally, on time and on budget then Matt Shumway should do your floors! If we ever decide to do any additional flooring Matt is our only choice.

Matt was recommended to me to refinish my floors when I purchased my home. At the time, I was living on the other side of the country and trying to coordinate the refinish before I moved all the furniture and appliances in. He seemed really nice to work with at first, until he didn’t show up for the walkthrough we had confirmed an hour before the time we planned to meet. Waited an hour after the agreed on time and called and texted him. He never returned the call or text. The walkthrough was scheduled 6 days before the job was supposed to start, so when he failed to show up, it was too late to find someone else for that date. It ended up working out better because I found someone for a later date who was far more knowledgeable and responsive than Matt anyway.

Matt did a great job refinishing our oak floors. The end product is beautiful and the price was very affordable. Matt had a lot of jobs going at once, but worked long hours on Saturday and Sunday to get our floors done. Matt was very friendly and easy to work with. If there were 6 stars, I'd give them all! Matt and his crew refinished our oak floor. In spots, the finish was worn down to bare wood, but we put off refinishing, dreading the process. Matt worked with our schedule. His crew were friendly and professional,. The process (using water-based finish---the standard these days) meant we were only out of our house a brief period each day. The price was very reasonable. The end result was absolutely beautifully refinished floors. Glad we finally got this done, and glad we called Matt.

Matt Shumway and his team did an amazing job on our floors! They removed carpet from 3 rooms, then placed hickory flooring to match the pre-existing hickory hardwood. They feathered the edges such that the borders of the rooms blend in perfectly! They were polite, courteous and professional. They completed the job on schedule and per the price quoted. Finally, they cleaned up after themselves when they were done. The quality of the workmanship is quite impressive. I would highly recommend Matt!

We had Matt put in 400 sq foot new flooring and refinish another 400 sq feet that was to be connected to the new, along with a set of stairs. He did a fabulous job. Other folks who bid on this told us that matching wood vents would be a lot extra. Also, that feathering the new floor into the existing floor was another significant added expense. He just factored all that in and was very economical. He did the job right from start to finish. Matt and his helper Ruben are a class act and they just do right by their customers in my opinion. Courteous, professional and perfectionists.

Matt Shumway and his team (Vincent and Brad) were incredible! They all had a very very strong work ethic, were conscientious, polite, professional, and always kept our schedule, our concerns, and our desires in the forefront. His estimate was simple, easy to interpret, beat all his competitors, and the quality of his team's workmanship was exceptionally outstanding. Unlike other estimates which charged separately for each piece of the job (carpet, baseboard, closet door, grate removal and replacements, grate staining, trim creation, etc.), his quotes included ALL work performed with no surprises. Their footprint was as small as possible given the type of work performed, and they cleaned up every day before departing. Definitely recommend him and his team for any flooring/stairs job you have where your desire is exceptionally outstanding workmanship at a very very reasonable price!

Matt Shumway did an amazing job with our floors, not only the first-time, hit he also did an axing touch-up job for us. We wanted a particular finish which required French Bleeding (he dyed the floors dark the first time, partially stripped them and then stained them light so they have both hues). Matt did an amazing job and was a pleasure to work with. He is prompt and works to ensure you're happy with his efforts. Additionally, he does additional steps included with his work over other contractors (cleaning any stain marks on cabinets, etc). Unfortunately we later had a poor experience with someone who tried to match Matts skills. Thankfully Matt was willing to come and touch up our botched job for us! If and when we have to refinish our floors, I would never go to anyone other than Matt.

Matt refinished my floors October 2014. He and his crew were incredibly flexible and professional. Matt took time out of his day to meet me on a Saturday morning to give me a quote because of my work schedule. He and his crew went above and beyond and helped me move furniture I couldn't move on my own. His pricing was beyond competitive and the job was top notch. Everything was beautiful and clean. The guys cleaned up after themselves and cleaned the dust. Matt gave great instructions on moving forward to keep my floors in good quality for the future. Would definitely recommend.

I only gave Matt 5 Stars because their was no 6. Matt did an excellent job on refinishing our 15 year old hardwood floors that had been yellowed from sun exposure. He took extra care on my concerns of damaging the baseboards. Matt has a super wood dust collector that surprisingly left our house almost dust free. That was HUGE!!! Matt is bonded and insured and I would recommend Matt to anyone!

Skylights are great up until 3" hail hits them and that's how I met Matt Shumway. Matt tackled my water damaged main level oak flooring and left me with absolutely beautiful flooring with more color depth than they'd ever had before. Trust that he knows what he's talking about when it comes to your flooring and if you both have a minute, talk to Matt in general because he's just an cool guy with some neat interests and idea.

Matt and his crew installed hardwood flooring in a previously carpeted room and seamlessly merged the new floor with an existing hardwood floor. Matt then re-did our curved staircase with hardwood in place of a construction grade staircase that had been carpeted. The work was extra challenging because he had to cope with a built-in at the base of the stairs. His price was very reasonable and the result is beautiful. Through it all, Matt was friendly, patient, and timely. Highly recommended.

Matt and his team were fantastic. Our floors look great, were done fast, and with very little mess to clean up. We've used other companies for other house projects and felt like we were breathing wood dust for months afterward. With Matt, whatever they did, there was very little dust. They also were very respectful and accommodating with our schedules. Can't recommend them highly enough. Great customer service, too.

I hired Matt to install engineered hardwood flooring in my upstairs hallway and on the stairs. Although the area was less than 700 sqft, it was not a simple job by any means, especially with the large-plank hardwood I had already purchased. The hallway had four doors and lots of corners. The stairs included a tricky landing dropping off on two sides. He did an excellent job and finished everything in just two days. I've done my share of learning and put in hardwood flooring in the two largest rooms in the house myself before I hired Matt and I was still impressed with his skills. Both speed and quality of his work on the stairs were simply unbelievable. I will hire him again to install cork flooring in two bedrooms.

I have a 66 year old house in CS, original oak HW floors. They were rough and had been neglected. Many years of carpet install and removal and previous attempts at refinish by I don't know who. We started with our large living room and hallway. Matt mixed a custom color of stain for us, Not too much red and no noticeable yellow. It came out beautiful. This year we put 2 more coats of finish in the L room and hallway and re-finished 3 bedrooms. The custom stain was perfectly matched. The finish is very durable and they look BEAUTIFUL! If I could give these guys more stars, I would. Matt and his crew brought our old oak hardwood floors back to life and seamlessly blended the old with the new as we expanded our food flooring into our living room. We received multiple doom and gloom estimates for a portion of our kitchen floor that had been damaged by leaking appliances, but Matt took one look and laughed at the notion of a challenge, and his estimate backed up that confidence. Matt went out of his way to help us with a few woodwork odd jobs that no other contractor would bother with, and his crew was able to quickly return to repair damage caused by a subsequent contractor. I highly recommend Matthew Shumway's Hardwood Floor Service and will be giving them a call when the carpet fades in the basement.

Matt was communicative, responsive, and was able to get the job done within two weeks of my first call with him so that our floors were done before our family got here for the holidays. He helped us move furniture, our floors look fantastic, he was great with our dogs, and he even fixed the sensor to our garage door on his way out. I went with Matt because of other reviews I read here. Matt was able to cover black spots on my wood floor that others said couldn't be done. He showed me colors and worked with me until finding one I liked which was a mix of colors he put together. My floors have literally never looked more beautiful! Not only did he bring the floors back to life he fixed two areas of wood that had been chewed on by puppies. Matt is passionate about his work and it shows. Five stars, I highly recommend him!
