For novice computer users: PROS - They have a work station that allows you to fix a problem with the help of employees (better than trying to google fix it if you don't know what to search for) - Convenient for parts directly (Not having to wait for online shipping) - Q and A with a person and not a online chat or google - Knowledgeable employees CONS - Prices (the same or most times more expensive than what you can find online) For non-novice: PROS - Convenient for parts CONS - Although it's convenient, there are a lack of brands (Nothing like Microcenter) - Lack of inventory. This works adjacent to the lack of brands. There is a very limited choice for what you probably need. - The word "knowledgeable" is used very loosely for us. We don't ask the same questions as novice users (i.e. why do I need a video card?). If you asked a random employee whether a certain motherboard paired with a AMD CPU is capable of utilizing the full speed of a 3200MHz RAM without having to go through the bios and overclocking or changing the clock speed... you may have better luck with google - Prices So overall, it's a good place to go if you're new to computer hardware. For you people, this place would be 4 or 5 stars, based on your own personal experience. However, this is my review, and for me the only benefit is the convenience. If a major part is not working (i.e. power, motherboard, cpu, etc.) that the computer depends on to make it turn on, it's good to know I don't have to wait for shipping or drive to Georgia for Microcenter. With that said, the lack of choices really makes it unappealing. If you need a part that you don't need immediately, just order it online. It'll be cheaper and they probably won't have what you need. The store is small, so understandably they do with what they can. Having pages of GPU and motherboard on Amazon or Newegg, it would be impossible for them to shelve all of it. Their return/refund policy is very simple and no hassle. Employee's are friendly and well mannered. Being a hardware store, they really should keep up to date with all of the new hardware coming out (i.e. right now AMD is blowing up the PC scene, unveiling their new GPU and CPU, Intel with their new high core count CPU chips, and maybe reading up on the mining so that they can educate consumers why the GPU and RAM prices are so high).

Friendly, Helpful, Knowledgeable, and Honest! I highly recommend them! I had a problem with my laptop and I thought the drive was bad. A friend of mine recommended that take it to Computer Direct Outlet. So I dropped it off with them and told technician to do “whatever it takes” to fix it. They basically had a blank check because I needed my laptop and I needed my data. It turns out that the problem was a virus and that the hard drive and laptop are fine. They fixed the virus problem. I have my data and my laptop now works great! They could have told me anything and charged me anything, but they were Honest and fixed only the real problem for the price that they had quoted. The technician even took the time to help me learn how to backup my data so that I don’t need to worry in the future. I am delighted! I brought in the serial number of a computer they built figuring they could look up the part number. They said they don't have the ability to do that.

They told me one day , they could replace my hard drive and transfer data, left a deposit for parts and called me 24 hrs later and told me they couldn't do the job! My family business just opened a corporate account with CDO after years of buying small parts from them for our older computers. I have been very impressed with the honest and forthright approach they take to their business model and have only had positive experiences with their bookkeeping. I also would add this- as someone who regularly buys computer hardware and software from a variety of businesses (online, office supply, and bigbox) I can honestly say I consistently find their prices to be very reasonable and never inflated. We just bought our first customized computer from them and were really impressed with the efficiency of that process. A big difference between their computer and a similar one I bought from a big box was CDO's came without the unnecessary pre-loaded froth that other ones come with. Also when I had a question about software integration with my specific version of windows, I called the gentlemen that sold me the computer, asked him a question and got the answer i needed within 5 minutes. All that to say, no business is perfect, the wait line in the service area isn't great (however reasonable the price is) but I have been very satisfied with my experiences thus far.

Cool place in an age of "over the internet" PC components and services, I was looking for a Solution to a firmware and hardware problem involving not enough SATA cables and mounting brackets, as it relates to a HDD to SSD data Migration The guy I spoke to was able to identify most of the problems I was having on the phone and with visual descriptions in store , these dudes know what's Up, And they never attempted to Up-sell me on the phone or in store.

I went there to purchase some small screws that fell out of my laptop over time I drive truck and from moving around they came loose and fell out so I figured I would go there well I walked in and looked around and did not see what I needed and one of the guys at the tables where they wait on peopl said could I help you I showed him what I needed he said yes we have some in the back but they are 5 dollars a piece! I said 5 dollars? he said yes sir I said that is crazy for a 3 cent screw? your gonna charge me 5 dollars a piece and I told him first I needed 6 of them he was going to charge me 30 dollars! No I am sorry thats what they cost just thats it 5 dollars a piece! I politely said I will buy a new laptop before I EVER give someone 30 dollars for maybe maybe 50 cents worth of screws! That is just ridiculous! I dont see how these people think they are getting good deals unless this guy was trying to take me for a ride!! but I remember very clearly who it was! how much would it have been if they would have put the screws in? for goodness sake probably 100 dollars!!!!!!! Not worth it I promise you I will tell every one when asked anything about this place plainly they try to rip you off!!!!!! That is for sure what was tried on me key word tried!!!!!!

CDO is one of a kind. Cannot go wrong here. Local computer repair facility that can actually do all of its work on site. You don't have to worry about your machine being shipped off to some Faraway place to get worked on. Prices very reasonable.

To me personally they are a rip off. I went in there and showed them my broken/bent USB 16GB flash drive. They couldn't fix it because it was damaged. I needed my documents. So they extracted my data from the usb flash drive onto my Sandisk 4GB flash drive at the price of $200. To me that is rip off. Case closed. I am not rating. I am just in need of a personal favor. I was wanting to Know Can CDO refund me my $200. I need it back to buy me and my family groceries and driving lessons. I really need my $200 back. In times of need like this I really need that money back. I am broke. Paying $200 to CDO technology on December 28 is what made me broke from the beginning. Please CDO may you please refund my $200 back to me. I need it back. Because I am broke and need food in the house. Please do this as a birthday treat for me.

This a great place to either work on your own computer or get help with a computer or other device you're having issues with. I needed a screw to replace one on a laptop. Everytime the screen was opened the back would pop open and expose the interior and hinge. I tried every screw that I thought would fit but nothing was working for me. Malik offered to get one of his techs to look at it for me. It turns out that the interior piece had been stripped and nothing I was doing would have worked. This was information that was important to me and they didn't charge me a dime for using their screws or for them to take a look at it. It's very rare these days for a business that looks out for it's customers like that. You definitely can't take your car to the dealership for free and I'm sure if I took this laptop to the Geek Squad, their information would not have been free. If you want friendly and knowledgeable staff to help you with your computers, I would highly recommend Computer Direct Outlet!

This place rocks! Visiting from Charlotte on a business trip, and the ac adapter for my laptop melted on one side. I thought the adapter was bad, and was ready to purchase a new one. They said they wanted to test it to make sure. Turns out the adapter was just fine, the cord just had a short. What I thought was going to be a $50 fix, turned out to be $8. Hi, My experience with CDO was great! They worked with me in making a computer for me the fills my needs and is expandable so I can use it for a long time. I was able to make payments until I had enough to get my computer. The day I went to pick it up I was able to go over to the customer area and check everything out . I was also able to load things so when I got home all I had to do is plug and play it was very nice. I was the #3 customer in line when they opened their doors. As a starting computer professional, CDO always had the parts, the knowledge to help me and my customers. They carry a great line of computer parts that you simply cannot find - things to repair a computer that no other store in Greenville can offer. Buying parts off the 'net is easy, but having the techs there to catch a part you missed is worth much more than easy shipping. Dale and the repair department are my go-to guys for any repairs I cannot do or do not wish to do. Dale's knowledge is like having a gold mine in your back yard, and you will be hard pressed to raise a question about computers, handhelds or networking that CDO cannot help you with. I love having CDO in Greenville, and with your first visit you'll appreciate this store. I've had 2 iPhone screens replaced there, so they have that additional skill too. The only place I will go for computer problems of any type in the Greenville area is Computer Direct Outlet. The staff at CDO has taken an interest in computers and what they have to offer in my opinion is reliable quality of service for a good price. I am a relatively experienced computer user and have even worked in software tech support. Recently I built my first computer and after putting it all together nothing would display to the monitor! Nick and Josh helped me quickly resolve the problem and got me up and running. The deal they gave me was so great that it felt like a public service. I just wish they had a tip jar. We love having this store as a resource. We don't go often but when we have a computer problem, like we did yesterday, we go to these guys. My wife does significant weekend work around the end of the month and two keys were sticking on her laptop. The technician looked at it and before doing anything they took it to the back and sprayed it with compressed air and it corrected the problem. They sent her on her way, no charge. Highly recommend Computer Direct Outlet. My wife and I brought our 2 laptops in for some troubleshooting the other day and were helped immediately by their friendly staff. After about an hour of work, removing the harddrive from one of the computers, and recovering ALL the data, we expected to pay a decent chunk of change for the tech's work. Needless to say he performed a service for us, so expected to pay him for his time. That was not to case at all. The tech said that is their business, fixing computers. Not charging you by the minute or "work order" unlike BestBuy or Office Depot. We were asked if there was any thing else we needed other than the recovery device, which was only $13. Highly recommended.

DO NOT BRING YOUR COMPUTER HERE. Horrible customer service.They told me it would take 3 days for ordering and repair..that was a lie. They said they would call me when the parts came in...that was a lie. I called to find out why I hadn't heard from anyone and they said they would have someone call me back...that was a lie. Finally I called back agian and they said the parts were in and that it would be another 3 days before the repairs were done. Also when I went in I stood at the counter for 10 min while I was passed and ignored before I finally recieved any help and even then he only said he'd be right with you. I've used Computer Direct Outlet over the years for parts and repair. Why? They're extremely helpful and a good value. My most recent experience was no different. I had a hard drive going bad in a laptop. They replaced the hard drive and reloaded Windows. Since the old drive wasn't totally bad, they were able to recover my data, too! I know they ran into some glitches and put in extra time, but the price did not change. I'm a happy customer!

I ordered a custom Volta V in Sapele. Love the PC, it actually pumps out less heat than my water-cooled pc did which is nice since it doesn't heat up my room like my old comp. If I were to order again i'd probably spring for the Bamboo or Walnut box but otherwise love the PC and upgrade-ability of it. Would definitely recommend. (Still working on my cable mngmt, dont judge)

This used to be a great place to buy computers and associated parts. Then they moved from their Laurens Rd. location. Their new location is God-awful, much harder to get in and out of their very small parking lot next to a blind curve. No more small parts on display which you can look over before you buy, and it takes a lot longer to check out. They appear to not want walk in customers anymore, just looking for larger corporate customers. After almost 2 decades of shopping with them, I am done with CDO. I cannot in good conscious recommend them to anyone anymore.

I had a custom pc built at CDO a little less than a year ago and it has been "by far" the best pc I've ever owned. I met with customer service tech's and explained my needs and the fact that I work with 1080p and 4K footage video and needed a system that could handle the demand and a system that I could view video during post processing in "REAL TIME". They were very knowledgeable and explained all the different options available and together we designed the unit that best fit my requirements. This pc is awesome, their service is fantastic and when I have a question, I make one call and they have always been available for me and are truly interested in helping... In the past, I've purchased several pc's from Dell and other online pc providers and although they were decent, this pc truly blows all those other pc's away. But the best part... When I call or visit on site, they know me and they all remember my name!! I love that personal touch. Makes me realize that if I ever do have an issue, they are there for me and will take care of me... Thanks guys !!

I bought a Volta V gaming PC from CDO last October, and have been putting it through it's paces with Overwatch and some flight sims since. It's well put together and performs wonderfully- very fast, and very quiet. Most gaming PCs with these specs come in cases that look pretty garish and I wanted one that wouldn't dominate my apartment's living room, so I appreciate the wooden case beyond it being a greener material than the usual metal and plastic. CDO have given me great support with the Volta- a component came loose in shipping and they immediately sent out replacement components and even offered to have an engineer help via video call. The team at CDO seem to be really proud of their product, and it shows in the interactions I've had with them. Overall, while I had some anxiety going into my purchase over the fact that I could get a PC with the same core components cheaper elsewhere, I feel like I made the right choice given the value added by the quality (and tasteful design) of the Volta, and the support the folks at CDO have provided with it.

Malik Baxter and his two peers were the best Techie Guys I've ever had the privilege of conducting IT business with. Upon walking in Malik greeted me with professionalism and courtesy. It wasn't difficult to tell that this team has the working IT knowledge necessary to meet objectives, they all contributed to getting my laptop issues resolved. I'm a game developer and I've had a lot of trouble finding a rig that can run programs like Maya, Zbrush and Unity at the capacity I need. CDO was able to build me a desktop that runs everything super smoothly, it seriously improves my workflow. Plus the Volta case design is really cool!

A colleague of mine had a laptop that really needed to get online and Nate at this place was just awesome about finding a great external WiFi device and even installing and testing the driver. Great and full service that you never see at big box stores. We should all support stores like CDO more that offer this degree of service!

Their computer parts sold here is lacking all pc components sold are at least a year behimd the times and even worse for amd/radeon parts. They try ro push intel products at high prices any amd tech is still using 970 am3+ chipset and only offered 2 radeon cards an rx460 and an HD 5880 their sales team while polite works slowly and seems lacking in current technology and uncertain when or ic they will offer any am4 components like ryzen or epyc their memory selection is lacking as you just tell you a clocl speed amd they brimg you a stick 2400 is only offered in 8gb or 16gb and they only offer one brand.

I've had a few machines built here over the years. No real problems with them. From time to time, Gary would hire some smart-mouthed kid in sales. I would stay away until the problem employee finally left. The new store makes me very uncomfortable because it feels so cramped in there. That matters for someone with disabilities as I have. No Gary, I don't expect you to move just for me but your choice of location and retail square footage leaves a lot to be desired. Doesn't matter for me now. Tad left and my business left behind him. He always treated me very well and was attentive to my issues. I just don't have the energy to start over with anyone else. Sorry Gary, but that's just the way it is. Response to CDO Technology: Gary Underwood, you say that your new store was designed "to be appealing and welcoming to all, including those with disabilities". Why am I not included in ALL? Why do you separate me out from others with your comment? The "including those with disabilities" addition is highly offensive as it is a common tactic to reduce people to less than normal. Shame on you and your business practices for treating people this way. No, I will not need anything else from you.

It took weeks to hear back from them or even get a diagnosis. No one knew what was going on with my laptop every time I called up there. They said that they needed to buy a whole new motherboard (additional $200) but my friend was able to repair it at home with the help of the internet within a few hours (and he didn't have to buy a motherboard or new parts). We paid $125 just so that they could tell us that they didn't know how to do what they are literally there for. If you want to pay to be screwed around, over and backwards then this is the place to go.

it's pretty bloody sad when you cant work in the computer work bench area doing a simple screen swap on an asus G752rw laptop because the employees are making up one b.s. excuse after the other complaining about small parts, time etc etc.. On this gaming laptop model, you pop the bezel off, take 4 screws out, disconnect the connector and just work in reverse. Literally 25 minute job. Plus I dont need the employees help, which he was seemed to be trying to push on me, like i was an idiot that expecting him to do the work. These are supposed to be people educated about computers but their knowledge with current computers and computers they haven't built seem to be back in the dark ages. Irony that I can do a screen swap in Starbucks but not in a computer shop that advertises bench space.

I've used CDO several times. Today I had a completely unresponsive laptop and assumed I needed a new power supply. Nick diagnosed a different problem and fixed it in less than 3 minutes. For expertise like that, I was willing to pay, but he wouldn't charge me. I'm impressed.

I visited CDO today at lunch to find out about a data transfer. this was the first time i had been in the new location and let me say I was VERY disappointed. I found only one person working the desk during lunch on a week day! This seems like it would be the busy time of the day for people that actually work a day time job. Why would you only have one person? There were at least 4 people waiting and it took over 30 min to get someone to help me! When it was my turn, I asked the lady if they sold any Software that transfers data from one hard driver to another! She tell me to hold on a second and she goes to the back and comes back and gives me an answer of "NO". Nothing else and just proceeds to move on to the next person! I say excuse me but do you offer any kind of service for this or can you recommend something? She says he will have to help you with that and goes to the next person. The he she was referring to is in the back. so i just leave! Also noticed that the customer help center is now only open on Tuesday's from 9 to 4 or something like that! But who wants to take time off work to go get help! I also would have like to taken my son as he likes to "build his own computer" and learn how they work but I don't think the high school he is in would like that very much! I would not recommend this place to any one again and I have been a customer for over 15 years!

Customer self-help area is great. Long line just b/c it's so useful & popular, but get there early, take a book, & your'e good to go. These guys & this business are an easy 5 stars. I took my custom built PC in, figured out in the self-help are what needed to be replaced, and for $99 they were going to fix the problem, and install an additional component I wanted. $99 buys you analysis & all the labor you want for a single sitting. These guys are flexible, courteous, & know their stuff.

Best place to buy computer but also solve computer or software issues. Last June I was stuck with downloading Google contact info into excel. Malik Baxter, sales manager at Computer Direct Sales took out the time and solved my issue. If it was not for Malik, the next associate sitting next to him, was eager to spring in and help. I have been dealing with this store many times over the years, and have had outstanding high customer satisfaction. Last June, before driving to Computer Direct Sales, I happened to pass another large computer re-seller with a Geek Squad. they were very polite listening to my problem, but then had to tell me that although they knew the solution, they were not allowed to tell me. I'm sorry to be so late with this review, few unexpected events came up. I hope this review will be of help anyone with their PC issues whether hardware or software. Thank you Malik, hubert PS. forgot to mention, I received this service without charge. I live 35 miles from this store, and recommend it to everyone, check it out, if you have not been there yet.

It is singular. Only place in Greenville like it that still exists. Wish they sold more parts and accessories for hobbyists (like pi's and Arduino), but still a great place to go if you need an adapter or cable and can't wait a day for Amazon.

Do you want want to hear a story? This past Saturday I turned on my computer and it was acting crazy. I called apple and they told me my hard drive was shot. I took it to the iStore and they wanted almost $1,000 to replace it if they had to take it out of their facility. Best buy wanted something similar. one of my Facebook friends recommended a place called CDO technology located on Haywood road near the mall and the guy took one look at it opened it up and pinpointed the issue right away it was a single wire that was coming loose. The wire needed to be replaced and instead of paying almost $1,000 to have a entire hard drive that was in perfectly good condition replaced I paid $60 and got a new wire. I don't normally recommend businesses but these people literally where are some of the most honest people towards my situation they could have easily charged me substantial amounts of money to replace a hard drive or to recover a hard drive but they didn't. Businesses like this are what we need more of everywhere. Thank you CDO Technology, YOU GUYS ARE A TRUE GEM.

I took my Dell Inspiron laptop to Computer Direct Outlet today in hopes my problem would be a simple fix. I have not been able to charge my computer. (less than 6 months old and purchased from QVC ). Nick was very helpful in trying several different things and then determining that it may be a software issue. He suggested I take advantage of the manufacturer’s warranty since it was still within the warranty period. He was very helpful and I really appreciate his time and effort to try to resolve my problem. I highly recommend CDO!!
