I had brought my Asus laptop to John to repair the power jack as I was having charging issues. The computer worked fine, but I would have to hold the charging cord in just the right position to charge. He had great reviews on google maps which is why I selected him over others for the job. I would have to agree with the other reviews on how great his communication is. He would always text to update me on the status of his progress which I appreciated greatly.
Currently I am a student attending various schools at NS Newport and HEAVILY RELY on my laptop to study for weekly exams and practicals.
I had dropped off my laptop with him for repairs and he informed me it would be about a week, which I agreed to. During that time I was always aware of his progress as he texted me often. After a week he informed me my laptop was done and ready to be picked up. The problem started the day i intended to pick up my laptop. He texted me that suddenly my computer was dead and no longer functioning, that he removed my hard drive as a courtesy in order for me to access my files, and that he would not charge me for the service, only the parts he installed ($20). After having a few conversations with him via phone, he offered to replace my motherboard for roughly $50. At this point and after some repair research of my own, I was frustrated with the situation and annoyed by the amount of time this was consuming. By no means did he intend to fry my motherboard, but again this situation was costing me time which I value greatly. I picked up my laptop but was not willing to continue my relationship with John as it was costing me time and I wasn't satisfied with his proposed recourse ($50 for repairs in addition to several weeks for parts).
End result: I didnt pay john his $20. I have a useless laptop that's bound for the recycling pile. Now I have to spend $500 to $700 to replace what was an operational laptop minus a minor charging issue.
The only positive thing out of this situation is that I got to meet John's adorable boxer/pitbull mix
