I came in with a very mysterious boot issue. My computer was non functional except for the fans spinning. The crew at geeks at work diagnosed and fixed my problem while I was in their store in ~ 10 minutes. On top of that, they were extremely fair with the price. Will absolutley return. 10/10

Had a broken hinge on my PC. They got me in fast. Fixed the other one too. Came up with a clever fix that would prevent reoccurrence of the issue. All was done in a few hours. Sweeet.

They were my saving grace when I needed a USB Sync for my Blue Yeti mic! I was searching all over Boone until I finally went to them and they gave it to me for free!! definitely would recommend. They all seemed very sweet and were all very helpful!

Completely regret taking my computer here. First off, service was terrible. There was no communication from the staff. I kept having to call them for updates, kept verifying with the staff that they had the correct contact info (which they did), was told multiple times that I would be contacted by someone soon only to have several days go by until I contacted them again. When I did call them, I was told multiple times that they didn't have a record of me or couldn't find my computer. Had to go in-store multiple times to clear up the issue. When my computer was finally ready, showed up to pick it up only to be told it really wasn't ready and the staff had, again, not contacted me to say so. This was incredibly inconvenient as I live almost 30 minutes away from the business. Secondly, what I was originally told would be at most a two week repair took nearly two months, and I was never notified that there would be a delay. This also was incredibly inconvenient as I rely on my computer to make a living. Thirdly, I also specified on multiple occasions that I did not want, under any circumstances, for any of the software to be updated on my computer (especially to Windows 10) was assured multiple times (in person and over phone) that this would not happen, then when I went to get my computer, the software was updated. When I mentioned my extreme displeasure, the staff was unapologetic and acted like they did me a favor. It also makes no sense to me that their 'package' deal, which included anti-virus software, was cheaper than just the repair as I did not want any additional software uploaded to my computer. Now, ads for the software they uploaded are constantly popping up on my computer. Again, I regret taking my computer to them. I figured I would get better, quicker service, from a locally owned, small business, but was completely wrong. I advise anyone to drive the hour into Hickory to take their computer to Best Buy or drive into Banner Elk. It might seem like a hassle at first, but far better in the long run. They cost me a lot of time and money. If I could give less than 1 star, I would. EDIT 4/3: Filed a complaint with the BBB about the business practices of this company. Company continued to publicly lie (including telling the BBB that I had no access to email during the time they had my computer (instead of owning up to the fact that they never emailed me) and that I went out and bought a new computer instead of having them fix what they messed up (which, I'm not even sure where they pulled this lie from or why they felt the need to create it)), and the only offer they made to ameliorate the situation was to remove the hinge on my computer. Absolutely refused to refund any portion of the terrible work that they did and never at any time apologized for how they handled the situation. Instead, they continued to lie and call me emotional. Worst business I have ever had to deal with.

Dropped off my PS 4 with disc drive issues. Ready the next day! They called me to let me know, didn't have to check in. They were VERY friendly and professional the whole time. I was busy at work the whole day when my PS 4 was ready and just remembered to go get it at 5:35pm. They close at 5:30pm. Called them, they said they would wait for me so I could pick it up that day. Also, price was definitely fair!! Great guys. Thanks so much!!!

I dropped my laptop on my first night of my vacation. I work while on vacation. I cannot live without a computer. I contacted JON at Geeks at Work and they provided me with a reconditioned laptop and extracted all I needed from the broken laptop and loaded it on to the new computer. They were so patient with me having to learn Windows 10 and much new technology. Mish and Jon are wonderful and one other (was his name Chris?) I recommend this place highly for anything. This is the worst, possibly criminal, service I have ever received at any business. I left my laptop here because my battery would not charge and my computer was very slow. Now that I got it back my laptop won't turn on at all even when it was plugged in. I paid $50 just to have a diagnostic done and then they asked for an additional $200 to do a comprehensive repair and virus clean. I said I couldn't afford this and then they asked for an additional $40 to replace and install the battery. I can replace and install the battery myself for about $20. When I took my laptop back and complained that it wouldn't turn on at all they said that I declined the repair option. Basically, they're trying to get you to buy a $250 one-size-fits-all plan no matter what is wrong with your computer. They criminally sabotaged my laptop because I refused to overpay for a battery replacement. DO NOT do business with Geeks at Work.

Excellent in every way. How often do you go to a repair shop and have the people inside it say "Yes, we understand your problem and we will fix it immediately"? This place has earned my business forever. I recommend it VERY highly. One small note for other customers-- the website says the business is still located in the Boone Mailing Center which is inaccurate. It's actually in the shopping center next to the Coyote Kitchen.

*EDITED after conversation with owner* Here is my story: I dropped my laptop off early August with a cracked screen. I paid for the diagnosis fee, the part, and the labor totaling somewhere around $410. I was told it would take 2-4 weeks to be fixed. I called after a month and was told that the part had not come in yet. They called me a week after that and told me that the part came in, but it was the wrong part. The new screen was installed, but was not a touch screen. They asked me if I wanted the laptop back with that screen. I told them no because I paid for a touch screen laptop. 2 weeks later I called again, the part was not there. I waited until mid December, called them and asked them what the deal was, and the screen still had not come in because it was not in stock. I asked for my laptop back and a full refund minus the diagnosis fee. They refused to give me the labor refund of $110 because they had to keep the laptop for four months, wait for the part come in stock, as well as install the incorrect screen and then take it off again. I picked up my laptop in the same condition I dropped it off in. I asked for the $250 refund and they told me they would give it to me via bank refund. It took until April, and a couple of reviews, to be able to get my money back. I appreciate that the owner called me, said there was a problem with the bank, and gave me a cash refund of $250. Overall, it was not a fun process to work with this company, and I will definitely not be going back. Thank you for the $250, but note that that is never what we agreed on as you told the better business bureau, it is what you forced me to take because that's "business," but here is your updated review.

I had a really bad experience with them . I took in my MacBook Air to get the keyboard replaced , and while under their care, they damaged the wifi chip on my motherboard. I asked them to please fix it , and one of the employees told me there was nothing they could do. I later spoke to a manager and he said they could fix it , but that I would have to pay more , even though it was their error. They put in a wifi USB into my laptop , so I no longer have a USB port in my laptop. They were not apologetic at all, and it ended up costing me a lot more than expected. I would NOT recommend going here !

I work for 4 Forty Four and have used Geeks at work numerous times. I have been very impressed with their professionalism and fast service. They are fair with their billing and go out of their way to please their customer. I was most impressed recently when they stopped by on their way through town. They had some time to spare between appointments, so they stopped in to see if we had any questions. It could not have been more perfect timing. We did have questions that they happened to answer right away. I thought it was wonderful customer service!! I also really like the fact that they explain what they are doing. We appreciate the crew at Geeks at Work very mucj. WE had an old I-Mac that was not connecting to the mouse or keyboard. They quickly diagnosed the problem while we waited and even gave us a spare mouse. We asked how much we owed and at first they said there was no charge. Logan was holding down the fort when my 9 year-old, not backed up Asus laptop was assaulted by a virus and completely shut down while on vacation in the area. Logan took it for two days, did everything he could, and only charged me a base price of $50. He wasn't sure if he'd rescued it, citing the "blue screen of death", but after leaving it alone for a couple days the computer started up, all viruses were gone, and it's been working ever since like a charm. Plus he backed up my entire hard drive in the process! Nice, hardworking fellow who is very knowledgeable. If the other employees are anywhere close you will be in good hands here!

Dishonest SWINDLERS. Will NEVER take my computer to be worked on here again. Told I had a bad hard-drive when I had just purchased it. They only wanted to get me to buy one of their "refurbished" ones. I have a feeling they were going to take my new one to resell to someone else. I am here to warn you to NEVER go to this RIPOFF factory. Bad ethics and will pretend to be nice people when they are in fact, MONEY HUNGRY and liars.

My laptop certainly presented a challenge for Geeks at Work; a broken computer is a working college student's worst nightmare, so I was quite relieved when I talked to the Computer Tamers. They immediately assessed the damage to my laptop and explained what they would do to fix, and offered a fair price for the diagnosis and repair. It was ready within a day. There were unpreventable hiccups with the laptop in the days that followed, but each time they would see to it immediately, explain the issue and what they did to fix it, and returned it promptly (for no additional charge). These gentlemen were helpful and kind, and their lobby was kept clean and inviting, with a variety of coffees, teas and snacks to make you feel comfortable. I would recommend them to ANYONE with computer needs, and I am so very grateful for their efforts towards my laptop! It works like a charm!

We had searched all around the area and no one had it so we decided to stop in this little store as a shot in the dark. Let me begin by saying I am not a disgruntled or dishonest ex-employee. This is a true and honest review. I hired Geeks at Work through Thumbtack to mount our TV over the mantle, hook up our existing satellite system, DVR, DVD player, surround sound speakers and hide all the cables. Jaison quoted a price of $200. I thought that was a reasonable charge to save us the hassle of doing it ourselves. I was under the impression that Jaison would be coming himself to do the job. Logan and Jon arrived 2 1/2 hours later than scheduled. Logan installed the bracket 6" to high and mounted the TV. He charged me $259 for 15 minutes of "work" and didn't hook up anything. When I asked why he didn't, he said to call Jaison and he would walk me through it. When my husband got home that evening and saw what happened he was furious. I spoke with Jon the next day and he assured me that he would speak with Jaison about remedying the situation. Jaison texted me back and we agreed on a time for him to come and complete the job. Again, I was under the impression that Jaison would be coming himself because my husband wanted to speak with him personally concerning another situation that happened when they were here. Instead Jon and Christian came. They were polite and repositioned the mount and connected the Satellite DVR and DVD player. They gave me a list of additional extension cables that I needed to buy and directions how to install them. They tried to collect an additional 'travel fee' for the return visit which I refused to pay since these things should have been done at the initial visit. Upon returning home with the extension cables, we worked 2 hours only to find that they had hooked up the DVR incorrectly and the Satellite In cable wasn't even hooked up at all. Turns out we didn't need the extension cables after all to hook everything up correctly. We should have done it all ourselves and saved $259. Three days after leaving a review on Thumbtack, I find that they have removed their business from that service. I would not recommend them. CAVEAT EMPTOR

Recently, my laptop was damaged in an accident, and the lid and screen needed replacement. Being relatively new to Boone, I had no clue where to go or who to call. I was originally planning to shop around more before choosing a repair shop, but Geeks at Work were very polite on the phone and were upfront with me about pricing and the estimated timeframe for repair. Just about a week later, I'm back to work with my repaired laptop. Geeks at Work did everything that could be reasonably asked of them, and in a timely manner.
