Liquid spilled on my MacBook Air and I took it in to Tech Port to have them diagnose the damage as well as if data could be recovered. Tech Port called the day I dropped it off and said that the liquid damaged was "extensive" that the wine spill was so bad they were concerned that the data on the hard drive would not be recoverable. They suggested I send it out to an outside vendor for an ultrasonic cleaning of the components to see if the machine could be salvaged. However, they said they were not sure if the data could be recovered from the hard drive if I did the cleaning. They told me that due to the nature and extent of the spill they would charge me an all inclusive price of $679 for the cleaning and the data recovery would be a wait and see situation. Sending the computer out would take a good 4-5 weeks of waiting time, too long for me as I need the computer for when I travel. I opted to not have them fix the computer and bought a new Air instead. The Mac guy who set up the new Air for me took a look at the damaged Mac, opened it on the spot and noted that there was no sign of wine spill and the hard drive was intact and perfect. That night, he got my computer up and running and cleaned the components with a few special chemicals used for the interior of computers. The computer is up and running Not only did Tech Port inaccurately diagnose the issue with my computer, they tried to sell me a service I did not need. Right now, I am out $1,500 as I bought a new computer based on their diagnosis of their my machine. Hopefully, Apple will refund my purchase. All I have to say is get a second opinion from the Mac Smith in Yarmouth. He's been in business for over 25 years and is the one who salvaged my computer. By the way, I am writing this review on the Mac Air that Tech Port said was "severely compromised."

Andrew, Andrea and staff are always knowledgable, friendly and patient with customers even under stressful conditions. They have always been timely and accurate with repairs and modifications on multiple Macs of mine. Prices are always reasonable, too. What's not to like about that?

I brought in my vintage macbook pro for a check-up after having some issues turning it on. TechPort was really helpful in providing a quick turnaround on the diagnostics (1 day), and providing honest feedback on the time it would take to get the parts necessary for a repair. I opted to not get the repair done and was able to pickup my computer the next day, at no cost for the diagnostic. TechPort offered reasonably priced data recovery options, and I plan to return to recycle my old laptop for free. Definitely would recommend TechPort to others.

Andrew and his staff did a wonderful job. They explained issues really well and they were wonderfully professional. However, what I was most pleased with was their prompt service. My entire main logic board and display screen were replaced in 5 hours. 5 HOURS!!! In a world were everything is Tech, TechPort is the place for your repairs.

First, let me say, most people do not understand that you are not alone when it comes to having hard drives die and unexpected death. Recovering data is never a sure thing, and many folks do not realize that when a drive dies, folks like Techport will do their best to recover data, but not necessarily be able to recover every file as each file byte is NOT saved in a side by side area, and that is the problem. I was referred to Techport by my Computer guy who installed the new drive 6 months prior. Qt first I thought I'd throw away the laptop, but I figured the estimate was free so I dropped it off. (Yes, I am sure their new location is even better for parking.) I had to take the ferry home, and by the time I was settled into my chair at home, they left a VM and gave me the decision to make, a cost estimate, and a time estimate. I decided to go ahead and do it as I priced out new ones and the price was way better, plus I had a chance to get my data, mostly historical news items and photos, back so I wouldn't have to search and re-download again (hours upon hours). I knew it would take a few weeks, but a week later they called and said that they did what they could and told me the price. SO I figured I'd be researching a whole lot again, but surprisingly, their calm demeanor did not mean the result I had expected. In fact, I had very very few files to redo. In fact I was totally happy with my entire contact to job performed by these folks, and there were a lot of files. If you do the research about data recovery, and you look at other cities about this, even the 800 numbers you can get with this service, these guys rate 5 stars whether you understand it or not. Thank you all at Techport. I am truly appreciative of your work and company.

I really appreciate this local business. The staff are super friendly and willing to chat/give advice on any and all tech questions, regardless if you’re a customer or not. I’ve had my ancient MacBook battery changed by them for a very reasonable price and after returning from a year living in the jungle, they cleaned my computer free of charge. Great place to outsource your Mac needs without having to deal with the the snobs at the Mac store. Win win. Highly recommend.

I am beyond happy with my experience at TechPort. I was referred to TechPort by Apple when I was having an issue with my trackpad and keyboard that went beyond the easy fixes (restart, PRAM reset, etc.). I was working on my contingency plan in case I had to be without a computer for several days... but TechPort fixed my problem within hours, and they were friendly and nice. I'm so thrilled to know that such a great resource is literally a couple of blocks from my office.

Had a very good experience here. My 2011 MacBook Pro isn’t an antique, but it's no spring chicken either, and it had slowed to about a crawl before I brought it in to TechPort. They replaced the hard drive, doubled the memory, decommissioned the CD/DVD drive that had suddenly begun to run constantly, and solved a variety of other problems with great patience, effort, and good advice. I’m happy with my reborn laptop, happy with what they charged me, and I’m also happy to recommend TechPort (as I already have to some friends). I would definitely go there again.

TechPort is a wonderful place to go if you are having problems with your apple products. I have a five year old Macbook Pro 13" and it, like all other 5 year old computers, began to have troubles. First, the battery decided to inflate which was taken care of swiftly and inexpensively by the team. Then the hard drive. I had my hard drive and hard drive wire replaced and though the turnaround was slightly longer (my only complaint about the team at ALL is that your product is rarely returned in the timeframe quoted, which I understand because they are busy and quality, yet I use my laptop for work so it's hard to expect to have a working computer "by the end of the day tomorrow" and have a weekend go by without word.) My hard drive crashed once again five months after the first one was replaced without any reason. I returned the computer to the team and they made sure the hard drive was replace under warranty and I was back up and running within a week and a half. Overall? Lovely. I will continue to harass the team with my apple products for a long time coming.

My MSI GT72S 6QE Dominator Pro laptop was not powering up, no lights or any sort of response after I left it plugged in on standby over the weekend. One of the representatives told me it would be $45 just to inspect it and that it would take a week to look at it unless I payed them more money for "priority". Given the extremely limited detail I gave him and without any inspection inside the actual machine, he went on to assume it's probably an issue with the motherboard overheating(coincidentally one of the most expensive things to fix), which he estimated would be about another $600. After I told him I would look elsewhere, he responded by saying something along the lines of "maybe you can find someone who works in a garage that is less busy than an Old Port business and would do it for less". The representative seemed nice, but also gave the impression that he was trying to shrug me off unless I forked over more money than their service is probably worth. I checked out their website and saw that they advertise "no charge, no obligation diagnostics" for PCs, which clearly wasn't the case for me. Based on other reviews and their website, they seem more geared towards Apple products, so I'm sure they have better service with Apple products. I found another place nearby within minutes that offers free inspection, did not assume what was wrong with the machine before inspection, and asked valid questions to determine what the root cause of the issue could be before I even brought it in.

Amazing! I got a used laptop from a friend, and went to Tech Port to wipe it out and make it faster. I went in and Andrea was the best customer service I've had in a really long time. She was so sweet, and patient with me as I explained what was going on. She apologized for it taking A DAY to fix- what?! I was so shocked I wasn't waiting a week to get it back. $45 got me a like-new laptop. Overall, such a great experience.

My laptop screen had some issues, I've purchased the connector ($25) that was faulty, so they don't have to replace the screen for $400. Once the "install" was done by them, I got my laptop back, and it was doing the same thing. I have contacted them, but they do not give warranty for parts that are not from them... Interesting. I've taken the laptop to another service, since the whole screen was moving in it's place, and there they told me that the screws that are holding the screen in place are missing (3 out 6 screws). Thank you for the "professional service". I would stay away from them.

The staff seemed very friendly and kind and several reviews online were really wonderful. I have a Mac that had a small spill of liquid on it and I was concerned so I thought I would have it checked out to be sure. The diagnosis was "liquid damage is clearly visible" - it was going to cost me $699. I figured before spending $700 bucks I would get a second opinion. So, why not go to the manufacturers themselves. If the Apple Store told me the same thing then I would feel more comfortable and go with the cheaper option & support a small local business. To my surprise I told the Apple techs at the Genius Bar my story and they had 3 techs check it out - NO damage! Zero cost! Quite honestly, it makes me a bit sad - I certainly hope that a local business is not taking advantage of fellow residents just because they are labeled a "Certified Apple Service Provider". Just goes to show you, always get a second opinion.

Stay away if you like your sanity and money. I went to the Apple store to find out my hard drive was dead but before they could replace it I would have to get my data backed up. They recommended Tech Port. I am not sure why. I called them and told them my situation and first person I spoke to gave me a long winded explanation and various pricing. I called the second place that Apple store recommended and he was a nice enough guy but wanted to meet me someplace at 8am!! So I called back Tech Port to set an appointment just to speak with a different person in order to get a different quote (waaaayyyy to expensive), different explanation of how they work AND ATTITUDE to boot when I dared ask why I was being told something different than my first call. I will give them 2 stars for at least answering the phone. Otherwise I would never go here or recommend them.

Andrew did a great job breathing life back in to my 2008 MacBook, and fixing the issue of not connecting to the internet. He listened carefully to all the symptoms, and methodically cleaned, backed up, and reinstalled software. It took a week due to difficulties getting a good back up, but he did not proceed until he felt confident about the backup. I also appreciated the calls updating me on his progress, and explanations of what he was finding, and his thoughts on how he wanted to progress next. TechPort is definitely my first stop for repairs from now on.

I highly recommend Tech Port in Portland Maine for any computer issues. I was referred here by by the IT Support at Apple when my hard drive died on my MacBook Pro. They were able to retrieve the data on my hard drive for me and migrate it to the new laptop which the Apple Store could not do. There prices were reasonable and they set up the new laptop within 6 hours. I did not even have an appointment. They were professional, pleasant and helpful. What a great resource!

These folks saved me. I had a perfect storm of problems with I phone. Long story short it wouldn't open up past the apple loading screen. The Verizon store couldn't help and even the Apple store said they couldn't do anything to get it working. I could care less about the phone, I was just concerned with some items (pictures, notes) from a trip I was just returning from. I was never able to connect to wifi to back things up so everything I had on there was going to be lost. The staff at Tech Port got my phone up and running long enough to save everything on a flash drive for me. I couldn't be more thankful. Not to mention the turn around time was exceptional and the staff were extremely nice. I cant thank them enough, they are the best!
