The team at Computer Repair Des Moines was wonderful! I had water damage to my 2011 MacBook Pro logic board and the Apple Store told me there was nothing they could do (but were happy to show me a new laptop starting at only $1,200). These guys not only replaced my logic board, but also upgraded my hard drive for about 1/4 of the cost of a new computer and software. They diagnosed the problem within 24 hours, finished the repairs in about a week, and it's working better than ever. With any luck (and my children staying far, far away from the computer), I'll get another six years out of it! I will never go anywhere else for computer problems.

I had laptop wiped and set back to factory settings - I had know idea how to accomplish this. Their charge was $85 and they took about 4 working days to complete the task. The receptionist was friendly and when I asked for an estimated value, she remembered and gave me a figure when she called to say it's ready for pick up.

I had a Lenovo U530 laptop with broken hinges and a cracked touch screen. I had taken the laptop to another place, got a rough estimate of the cost and then decided to have Computer Repair Des Moines look at it. Glad I did. Their estimate was $100+ less than the first location. Additionally, they took a look at my laptop while I was there, figured out what parts they needed and then let me keep my laptop until the parts came in. The first location wanted me to leave my laptop with them and pay the up front fee with no guarantee that they could even fix it. Computer Repair DSM kept my laptop for about two days once the parts were in and when I came to pick it up, it looked like it never had an issue. Hinges work great and the screen was replaced. Excellent job, super considerate and nice staff. Recommend them 100%

Bryce was affordable, user-friendly, and fast. I would and WILL recommend Des Moines Computer Repair to everyone I know in Des Moines (about 2 people). I saved $350 on a new Retina Display for my laptop. In addition, Apple wouldn't have replaced the entire cover whereas Bryce DID. Don't hesitate to take your computer in. He's honest AND Good.

I was charged a fee to look at my laptop. $65 I think. I received a call one week later. I was told my motherboard was shot. I authorized the work and it was ready in less than a week. I was charged another $77 when I picked up my Dell. It's working great now.

Be very careful if you are going to bring your computer here. I brought my son’s laptop for an easy fix and brought back a $2000 doorstop after they were done fixing it... RESPONSE TO OWNER: It's convenient for you to blame the motherboard even though it worked fine before you guys got your hands on it. Thank goodness it never "blew up" when we were using it since it was "malfunctioning" so bad. UPDATE 3 - Response to Owner: Unfortunately, I was never given any options other than “we didn’t do anything wrong” and “we will fix it at full charge”...neither of which are acceptable given the situation. With regards to the motherboard...it certainly doesn’t work now that your tech “fried” but it worked fine the last time I used it. My computer only needed a battery replaced...that’s it. But I’ll keep spreading the word...several hundred people so far...and counting. UPDATE 2: Received a response from the BBB. They informed me that the company did not respond to multiple letters they sent them regarding this issue and that the company does not cooperate with the BBB. UPDATE: I have informed the Better Business Bureau about the complaint to see if they can assist in a satisfactory response. We will see... We brought in a two year old Alienware 17 R2 laptop that wouldn't turn on. We knew that it needed a new battery because it had been giving us a warning about not being able to charge the battery. The tech used a charger to see if would start. It did. He told us that it couldn't access the battery. He said they would have to do some more analysis and they would get back to us. I got a call about a week or so later saying that the tech had plugged in the computer to analyze the problem with our laptop. He said that when he turned it on he heard a large "pop" and said he thought the motherboard was "fried". I reminded him that the computer had been turned on and was working before we left the store and asked him how this could happen. I asked him if he had used the same power cord or a different one and he said he had used a different one. He again told me he would take another look at it and give me a call back. He apologized and was very professional. The tech called me back again later and said that he thought the mother board and the keyboard were both likely unusable. He said they had found replacement parts and that they had also found a used replacement computer online that they could possibly use to transfer the data to. He said it depended on what I wanted them to do and he named off the prices to fix the laptop in each scenario. I informed him that when we gave them the computer to "fix" it only needed a battery and a charge cord. I told him that I didn't think we should be liable for damage that they had done to the computer. I told him I would be willing to cover half the cost,or something along those lines, to fix or replace the laptop they had damaged. He said that he would talk to his manager and get back to me on Friday. The tech called me again on Friday and told me the manager didn't think it would be an issue but that they needed to speak to the owner and that he would get back to me again on Monday. This morning, Monday, I get a call from a very rude woman who informed me she had spoken with the owner and that they did not believe that they had done anything wrong. She said the mother board was “obviously” faulty and that it could have done that to whomever would have plugged it in...pretty convenient. I told her that we gave her a working unit and now it is completely useless after they worked on it and that I wanted to have some sort of remedy. She informed me again that they didn't do anything wrong, that they wouldn't work with me to rectify the situation, and that they didn't give refunds. PLEASE be careful if you plan on using this store. In retrospect, I truly wish we had gone anywhere else. At this point I wouldn’t give them another cent beyond what they charged me to wreck my computer.

If your policy assumes that I'm going to do the wrong thing, you might want to think harder about your policy. I'll continue my search for decent computer repair business in Des Moines. My cat tipped over my water glass onto my laptop and froze it! I was in a panic because I had many deadlines going on and needed to get to my files on my laptop. I called Computer Repair DM and they were great. I brought my computer in, he immediately diagnosed it and ordered me a new keyboard, then offered another option for retrieving my files off the computer so I could copy them over to another computer. Then when my new keyboard arrived, they only took a few days to install and get it back to working properly. Thank you!

I took my beloved 9-year-old MacBook Pro in to Computer Repair of Des Moines because of a graphics issue. At first, the diagnosis was a faulty cable interface. That proved too easy and the LCD screen was replaced. That, too, was off the mark and the issue was still there. Stefan, however, was dogged in his tracking down of the problem. He finally landed on the graphics chip on the logic board. Unfortunately, while he was attempting to work on that chip, the logic board itself failed. That is a pretty expensive part, actually *the* most expensive part in any computer. Stefan called me up and told me flat out that it was probably his attempt to repair the graphics chip that had caused the failure of the logic board but not to worry: It would be replaced free of charge. And while he was in there, he replaced the battery which had swollen from lack of cycling (this laptop was almost always plugged in) and was encroaching on other sensitive parts, perhaps also causing damage to the logic board. This additional repair he did for the wholesale price of the battery, with no additional labor charges. So now I have basically a new laptop. I love Computer Repair of Des Moines’ shop of young, smart, capable technicians; but I love their honesty even more.

Took my laptop in mid-October to have the screen repaired because it had developed vertical lines in the display. Received a call about 4 days later to advise that they had determined that the screen could not be repaired, but would need to be replaced along with an estimate of what that would cost. Gave them the go ahead to fix. Replacement screen was ordered and replaced. Total time they had my laptop was approx. 2 weeks and all cost under $150. Would give them my business again.

The people from this establishment that I talked to were nice and friendly, but my laptop repair went badly. I went in to have them repair my Lenovo y400, which took much longer than expected. It ended up being an issue with the motherboard, which wasn't easily replaceable, but that is not why I'm leaving a negative review. A few weeks afterwards I started to take apart the laptop to save the hard drive for something else and I noticed that the frame of the laptop had been broken. There was a screw placed under a manufacturer sticker that the technician must not have realized was there when taking the laptop apart. I realize it was a dead laptop, but someone definitely should have mentioned that they broke the base plate of my machine.

I had an emergency because my computer suddenly didn't recognize my user account. All my business information was under that user account. I was leaving town the next morning! Tried another company who would only give me a 24 hour turn-around. DMCR said bring it in and we will put a rush on it. They got it back to me with in 3 hours. Great service!!!

My MacBook Pro was having problems opening so I took it to Des Moines Computer Repair. They diagnosed the problem within 48hrs and contacted me with options for its repair. The hard drive was failing so I had them install a bigger solid state hard drive. They were able to save all my data from the failing drive and upgraded my system software to the most recent version of OS.10. My portable hard drive wasn't working. They found the bug and fixed it. The price I paid was lower than what I thought it would be. I now have made duplicate copies of the portable hard drive as a backup as I never want to experience the feeling of losing a lifetime (actually my lifetime and my parent's lifetime) of photos, movies, and documents.

I can't believe these other reviews are even real. I took my laptop in to get the motherboard replaced. It took 40+ days to repair it, during which I had to constantly hound them once a week (they never once called me ever for any reason). When I did call, they would tell me that a part was taking longer to order, or sometimes that my laptop was magically ready just that very moment that I called (spoiler: it wasn't ready). The first time they told me it was finished, I turned it on and found that the display drivers had not been installed (a bad thing that is very obvious), and that they had replaced my keyboard with one that had the wrong shift key and a sticky space bar. Weeks later, after they finally replaced the keyboard with a correct and functioning one, I called to ask if it was ready and they said it had been for days. The only good thing I can say is that they gave me back my $75 deposit for my troubles, but really all they had to do was call me and explain what was going on and I wouldn't have been nearly so mad.

CAUTION is definitely needed when you are considering this repair store cos they would have given you defective parts to put on your laptop or computer. They would PROMISE you to give you a new part, but NEVER call you back!! My laptop screen had cracks so I decided to go there to have my screen replaced after researching the reviews online, thought it would be a reliable store. Few days later I went back to pick up my laptop, expecting a good working, new screen on my laptop, but I felt very uncomfortable just by looking at the screen. It was like all the pixels were popping out when the screen was not turned on, and when I turned on the laptop, every thing on the screen was so blur. Few seconds later, the screen showed spots on the surface, making the mouse impossible to move because it's a touch-screen. Now it is still doing this from time to time. So I asked the store owner Brice if the screen was purchased from Lenovo (which is my laptop brand), he said it was with confident (I really don' understand how could he lie so good). I asked for the receipt from the screen to prove he did purchase the screen from Lenovo. He went back to the repair room for a while, and said he didn't have it because the receipt didn't come with the screen(??????). I decided to trust (WRONG MOVE!!!) him and said I would try this screen for a couple days to see if I can get use to it. In the following days, I showed my screen to almost everybody I know, they all confirmed that there's something wrong with the screen. My eyes were getting more uncomfortable. I called Brice, said my eyes hurt, asked him to replace my screen. He later admitted that the screen was DEFECTIVE, and promised he would order a new screen for me. So, I decided to trust him again (WRONG AGAIN). Now it has been THREE months, I've asked him several times, he said the order is one the way. COME ON, THREE MONTHS already and you said it's still on its way? IS IT WALKING HERE BY ITS OWN??? I just can't wait any longer for a screen that is never gonna come, can't believe in a person who is a total liar. I spent a total of $376.72 on this store, $291.72 on the screen and $85 on labor, this is what they gave me. A defective screen and a never reply phone line.

I drenched my macbook in lemonade, pretty much destroying it. I took it here and was completely astonished that they got it working as good as new-- for basically $1000 cheaper then it would have cost me at apple. It did take a couple weeks to fix; I'm not sure if that's typical or if its just a bit longer for liquid damage. My 10 year old Mac was in need of some updating. After calling Apple support I was told my Mac was to OLD for the Apple store to fix it. So I called Computer Repair Des Moines and the receptionist was able to answer all my questions. We were told it would take two days to replace an iPad screen, but took 7 days. We were called on the 4th day to see if they could put a different color screen on it b/c they didn't have the original color in stock. Really? 2 days after it was supposed to be finished - now you're calling? They were $20 cheaper than others, but we also had to take it back b/c now the home button activates if you press anywhere on that side of the screen. Save time and frustration - go elsewhere for tablet repair, even if it's a little more expensive. Fixed computer that was shorting out for $85 which was a pretty good price. Perhaps just take your computers there, not your tablets.

I was very pleased with my experience at DSM Computer repair. The receptionist was very friendly and knowledgeable.The initial evaluation on my MacBook Pro for the water damage was very timely. They were able to order the part and fix my computer within several days. The price was very reasonable,under $200 and as quoted. When I first took the computer to the Apple Store, I was told it would need to be sent in with the initial cost of $1200. My computer works great!! If I have any other computer issues, I will be using their service.

An hour after I dropped it off he called to let me know it was a simple repair and that it was complete. Just took a laptop in for repair, I needed to data recovered from harddrive that acted up when i tried to create a new partition. They explained to me they would either likely be able to fix the boot sectors or what have you on the hard drive so that it would load again, or recover the data and reinstall windows, either way, the price was to be $85.00. Long story short, they were unable to recover any data which can happen, but when i went to pick up the computer they refused to give me a refund or even reduce the cost since they were unsuccessful in restoring my drive or collecting the data off of it. So please understand, I know that not everything can be repaired or that not always can you recover lost data, and I am totally fine with that, I knew that when I took the computer to them. They never once explained to me that the money would be non refundable if they were not able to get the drive to some state that they data could be recovered. In fact, they were extremely confident that they had a couple ways to approach this type of problem and that one of them would work. So, therefore I did not even think to ask them about the "what if you can't" question. I called them today, to see if they would once again refund, or even consider a partial refund, since i ultimately received no beneficial results, they answer was a definitive NO. I look forward to seeing how they reply to this, and in the future, they could not be in this situation if they would have had me sign some type of paperwork or something that stated their policy if repairs were not possible. I signed nothing, paid up front as requested by them, and have nothing in return for it. I am sure they are capable of minor repairs, possibly, but If you have a serious issue, please consider where you shop, the professionalism and attention to detail of anyone you use, as not even explaining important business practices up front to a customer is a sure fire way to have someone upset, and that is exactly the position I am in now.

Called to find out if they could service the keyboard on my MacBook. Instead, they let me know about a program that Apple has to do that service for free. This speaks to the integrity of the company, because they could have simply taken my money and done the work themselves, but they actually cared enough to let me know that I can get the work done for free. I did not use their service, but if I run into problems in the future I will most certainly do so, with full confidence in their commitment to the well-being of their customers.

Absolutely horrible. I paid $85 deposit to have the screen fixed. They said it will take about a week to get the part in. I said I need to use my computer during that week, they said ok we will call you when it comes in. I call a couple times over the next TWO MONTHS and no part. I call to cancel and get my deposit back, "We don't return deposits." I should have known, since there is a shelf full of computers that, "I don't know why some people never come back to get their computers."

The hard drive on my 2011 MacBook Pro was going out and I called around to find out who could repair it, when and how much. I've not had to have anything done to my laptop before, so didn't know where to start. When I called Computer Repair of Des Moines, an actual person answered right away, answered all my questions in a no pressure manner and told me exactly how much it would cost right up front, and when they could do it. I took it in on a Monday, and they replaced the old hard drive with a SSD and had it done by Thursday, would have been sooner possibly they said, but had a couple other repairs ahead of mine. It was great to have it back the same week. They made sure before I left everything was exactly how I had it before, I was relieved and very happy to be able to go right back to work without having to set a bunch of things up again. They even called on Wednesday and informed me that the real problem wasn't the hard drive but a connection, and that the old hard drive had some life left in it, if I wanted to wait to replace it, but had a lot of hours and was showing early signs of age and wear. I decided to have them go ahead and replace it since they had it and I live about an hour an half away from the city so I wouldn't have to worry about it. I really appreciated their honesty. They were very respectful and answered questions I had so I could understand. I will definitely be back with any future repair needs!

I read all the great reviews and decided to give them a try. I had them repair my laptop and build a desktop computer for music production. My laptop needed the case repaired and a damaged keyboard replaced. When I got it, I was impressed with what a great job they did fixing the case, but when I got my laptop home, I realized the screen had been damaged. There are now several bright white patches on the screen because somebody poked the screen too hard. There are also "scabs" on the screen which looked like they had been exposed to high heat and melted. For the custom desktop computer, I had some part specifications from another website I had them use (I was still flexible). But when I got it, it was missing both a sound card and a Wifi card. The motherboard had a built-in sound card, but it didn't work for me, as I needed specific driver compatibility with the software I use. So I had to order a Wifi card and a sound card on my own so they could install them. I talked to them again, and they said they would charge me for installing the sound card. (They already charged me four hours up front for just putting the computer together.) Please call someone else. Update: They offered to install a new screen on my laptop, but I will not be changing my review.

I brought my laptop in for keyboard issues, when I used a portion of the keyboard it would type additional letters. I was concerned it was caused by water droplets as I had my laptop on the counter while doing dishes. Everything else about my laptop was working completely normal and I made sure to emphasize that I was not concerned for water damage to anything other than the keyboard. I was told they would take a look at the laptop and the keyboard and call me if any water damage was found. I received a call about 3-4 days later saying no water damage was found and that the keyboard was working normally. Confused as to why the keyboard was not working for me, but somehow started working normally again I inquired about this and was told maybe a couple of water droplets got in and caused the keyboard to short circuit but after a few days the water dried up and everything is now working again. At this time they recommend I replace my battery which I agree to. I pick up my laptop 2 days later. When I get home to use it, I am having the exact same issue with the keyboard as I was having when I first dropped it off. After checking to make sure exactly what keys were acting up the keyboard starts working normally, very strange? So I call the next morning and am told to give it some time and use it for a few hours to see if it stops working again, I’m told it’s most likely a bad keyboard or the first tech that worked on it did not put it back together correctly. I give it some time and it stops working after 2-3 hours. Frustrated I bring it back in and show the tech what’s not working. He tells me it’s a bad keyboard, brings out a keyboard, asks if I can leave it and he will replace it and I can pick it up tomorrow. I agree. That night I get a phone call saying my laptop is ready to pick up. I pick it up the next day and am told the keyboard was not replaced because the second tech that looked at it found some corrosion around the trackpad and keyboard connector, he told me “I don’t know how we missed that”. The laptop has been fine since being cleaned. I’m only giving 3 stars for the inconvenience of having to drive there an extra time and for wasting my time by picking the laptop up when it wasn’t working. Everyone was very friendly I just wish they had been more thorough when I first brought my computer in.
