The eating areas and options have improved slightly, but cost is still a major issue. Theft, vehicle break ins, abandoned car in the parking lot, smokers garbage and other things still make the campus a gritty and often unsafe environment. GRC has been changing these last few years to a more urban and corporate college. Teachers are often over worked and don't have enough time for everyone so often classes are super full. Don't buy books on campus, their cost is way too high not to mention their buy back rate is insulting. No e-readers or electronic textbooks for rent or purchase here but they do have a digital milkshake machine. Classes, facilities, teachers, programs and other important elements of the campus are being cut to make up for all the new renovations and building. So really check your plan long term before investing your money and time.

Absolutely loved this Community College when I went there. The campus was, and still is, beautifully nestled into the forest. There are several trails behind campus that lead to sweeping views of Mount Rainier and the surrounding areas. Lots of time has passed when I was there before, so I can't speak for the current faculty, but this is still one of my favorite campuses to go back and visit.

Green River college offers an excellent education at an affordable price and they have many degree options to choose from both for an associate's degree and a bachelor's degree.

This is my current school. I am going here to get my associates degree in applied science and water quality. I love the Natural Resources staff they are like family. Everyone is so nice students and staff. They school the teachers everyone sets you up to succeed. It also has the most beautiful classroom for natural resources. The college has over 100 some acres of trails and natural beauty for us to learn in. I am truly blessed .

I attended for my AA in IT Networking and BAS in Software Developmemt. The staff and instructors were the best part of the experience. They taught me so many skills that I can honestly say I can follow several career paths with what I learned. Since graduating in 2016 I have had the opportunity to explore teaching, software engineering, and Program Management at Microsoft using what I was taught in the Green River Tech department.

Green River College is a decent community college in the South King County. I have had the opportunity to be a student of many great instructors at this college. Some of which really took the time and effort to make sure you succeed. The campus itself as undergone many renovations over the last 15 years. Namely new Technology Center, English, Art and Math departments and new library as well as a new student center which opened last year. I met many good people , classmates, facility members, acqueintices, and lifelong friends. Politics aside, the school has great facilities, instructors, student resources and community.

This school is very diverse. The staff actually do work and the faculty is great. Trust me, I am studying in a different school now, and it opened my eyes that GRC is one of the best schools you can find. Just take each opportunity it offers you!

I like the college overall, but get a second opinion if you talk to advisors! I met with my advisor several times to make sure I got all the prerequisites done for the university I'm transferring to. She said I had to take 3 anatomy courses to get in. I should have talked to the university sooner because after taking all 3 courses I found out I didn't need any anatomy classes to get in. I'll be taking anatomy there and the credits I took at green river don't count for anything. A lot of effort, time, and money wasted because the advisor insisted that I had to take them. I know I should have checked as well, but she could have said she didn't know for sure instead of saying I definitely need to take those classes.

I loved it when I was there. I was a member of student government and had many friends. I would recommend the college to anyone who wants an inexpensive great education in a lovely setting...

Rachel Ornelas

I would not recommend this school for an IT degree. I attended this school for an AA in IT Systems, there is no real lectures and I never really felt connected to the class, always very disconnected. I understand we the students need to study and read our textbooks, but there was absolutely no sense of leadership from the teachers here. There is one teacher I had for IT work environment who works at Udub Tacoma as a network admin. I remember him stating he had a rough childhood of poverty, which makes me think he worked so hard and appreciates things in life and actually is a hard worker. I forgot his name but he was the only great professor although it was for a less important class. I expect teachers, even if it's a short lecture, to give some sort of presentation for their class that is understandable, easy to read having slides and representations of the topics, and some in class group assignments or something that engages the class to be interactive. This is not the case here. If I had chosen differently, I would've went to Bellevue College, I hear their curriculum is a lot better there. Don't waste your money! I have a degree although still feeling ill prepared from the lack of curriculum their IT program has. I am surprised some people stay two years and stay for their BA, which is more money, and same sense of no accountability of being a teacher representing leadership, important skills for the real world, or any real insight other than the boring dry material in textbooks and zero communication of learning. I will say though, the teacher from IT work environment and Spunky(Angela) are the best teachers here in IT. I wish I could've had those teachers the whole time here. They should be working at a better school IMO.

The experience is what you make it. Green River has an AMAZING campus with many new facilities, a newly added bachelors degree program, free tutoring in almost all subjects, huge library, helpful teachers, programs that are well made and university transferable, and all around an enriching place to learn. To those saying no good instructors, Bullshit. Try not majoring in pre american-revolution woman's philosophy, maybe you'll have better luck. Financial Aid is definitely a b**ch, but its like that everywhere.Use your resources; counselors, workshops, Trio, clubs, upperclassmen, teachers you respect...good things come to those who work for it. Dont take my word for it (or do. i'm not lying, i promise), get second third and fourth opinions. Highly recommend checking out the campus, maybe set up a tpur (call any office and ask how you can set one up, they'll hook you up.)

As a vet, I've had a great time interacting with staff and student alike. GRC is a wonderful place to learn, nestled amongst a forest of amazing trees and landscape. The Financial Aide, Enrollment Services and Veteran's offices have all been extremely helpful. This is a school that cares about Vets

The professors do a good job for the most part, but financial aid and counseling services are almost non-existent. Financial aid will almost certainly arrive late as they say they have a 3-4 month backlog on paperwork at any given moment. So if you need to buy books or supplies at the beginning of the quarter you'll probably have to put it on your credit card or skip meals. They can never give you a timeline for completion and they say they process paperwork at random instead of the order received to "ensure fairness".The guy in the office makes my blood boil. He almost looks entertained by telling you you'll have to use your food and rent money for books, because they'll file your paperwork sometime over the next several weeks. The financial aid office builds up long lines as most people have to come back again after receiving wrong/incomplete information. The form deposit box outside the office to avoid the lines is a black hole where paperwork goes to never been seen again, only heard from in the form of an email saying the form you dropped off there never lived to see processing. RIP financial aid forms, you will be missed and were sorely needed. Don't expect to see class finder working during registration. Don't expect the classes you need to have seats open - even if you register within 30 mins of your registration deadline opening. EDIT: I revised my original rating upwards from 1 to 2 because my interactions with the staff, particularly the adjunct professors, in the science, physics, and engineering departments have been phenomenal. I don't understand how an administration that at times seems so apathetic and disorganized could staff such great departments. After seeing the placards on campus, I really hope they give the adjunct professors their first raise in five years before the school loses some of the talent it's been lucky enough to attract. I would have adjusted higher, but I still think the performance of my original english professor, in the 4 weeks before she was fired, should bring the overall score down a star.

Great open air campus. A lot of new buildings with more coming. Great rental spaces available for the public. Staff is very helpful. Dr. Johnson seems to be doing a great job as the new President. Lots of communication with the students, staff, alumni and business community.

The VA officials are terrible. I am a veteran and I’ve been attending this “college” for almost a year. Every quarter I recieve emails stating that i have not turned in my required paper work. They are constantly losing my veteran paperwork and I have almost been dropped out of class due to the VA office losing my paper work. As a veteran, this school’s VA office is not the best and will surely not help you in any case. Just a bunch of monkey’s working for money.

Do your Bachelors elsewhere! They only care about your money. Terrible college, having gone to both Highline and UW I can easily say this is the worst college experience I've ever had. From the terrible website and registration process, to the gigantic waste of money, this college truly sucks. There is a lack of communication etiquette among admissions, financial aid, and even higher level professors. I had to leave due to several issues, one being risk of losing home due to personal family issues. I let Green River know this as I dropped classes two class sessions in (two weeks meeting once a week). They were strict on their ridiculous policy and said tough shet you owe us or we are sending you to collections, taking three weeks to respond pretty much each email. I've showed several individuals our correspondence, and every person was in awe about how they talk down to people and ignore you once they are shown how unprofessional and disrespectful they are. Other students agreed they were in the wrong and it was typical of Green River to be underwhelming in the care/respect department. This school only looks at you as a $, as they waste money every quarter on bouncy houses and such. If a student needed money for medical expenses and needed some sympathy on what they owed when leaving classes, they wouldn't care. This isn't the case at other colleges/universities who are more than happy to help, I can guarantee that. I've talked to several individuals in this college and pretty much all of them stopped responding or said the same regurgitated BS. People can say I'm exaggerating but there is a reason some of the better professors are leaving, as well as why there was a school wide strike a couple years back. This school DOES NOT care about you, they care about your money. I cannot warn you enough this college has some quality professors, but ultimately they aren't going to be as caring as other colleges. Go to Highline, Bellevue, or UW where you'll be shown more care and will have a better college experience. You'll see a glimmer of others questioning Green Rivers ethics regarding money in the reviews below. I have proof of the terrible customer service if needed, they took weeks to respond, constantly forward you to others, and finally stop responding. The whole time they talk to you they talk down to you like you're an imbecile. While in communication with them about money I owed, they sent me a letter with intent to send to collections. Only one person who I talked to was kind and professional in their responses, the rest were god awful. Several students can attest to this and can't leave this college soon enough In terms of the BAS pricing, it's pretty much over priced. You're paying near $3,000 for one meeting a week per class , which is way beyond the estimated cost on their web site. Your learning comes from reading, and free online videos. And if you email your professor for help they point you to tutoring. Raising the question of why am I paying for free online learning? I told my professors of my situation and why I'm leaving, and got NO response. Further proving my point you're just seen as money to this college. Gigantic waste of money and time, I had a better learning experience watching YouTube videos for free.

You know what grids my gear that I was followed around bookstore by employee. Just bc I'm brown doesn't mean I'm a criminal. I didn't see anyone else being followed and that guy even stood over me to see what I bought and what I put in my back pack. Never felt so upelt then today. Bookstore u lost my business. I will be renting textbooks. Thank u for nothing

This place is ok, but it is really a community college, it’s not a 4 year school. There are a lot of car break ins here, and the school doesn’t really care enough to do anything about it.

This college ruined my grades because there are no good instructors. The whole college is surrounded by trees and is in decay. I drive to Bellevue College just to avoid this college and the ones around like Highline CC.

The school it's self is an overall good school. I completed my AA degree there. As a warning they have real issues with their Financial Aid office. There is a breakdown in their application process, for some reason they can't complete the applications even a couple weeks into the semester. Their director needs to visit other colleges and universities and restructure their process. 1) GRCC will drop you from your classes, and 2) your aid can be up to two months late, even if your Fasfa is approved, 3) They will hold your refund and distribute it in 2 disbursement payments, beginning of quarter (if your lucky!) and then 6 weeks in! No one lump some like other schools! I have gone to 2 other colleges and 1 other university, all of them no matter how late my paperwork, even if I finished turning in paperwork the week before school, I would wait no more then 2 weeks after school started for my refund. No threat of being dropped from classes, if you don't pay at the end of the quarter they will just put a hold on your transcript and/or not let you enroll in next quarter. a guarantee they get their money at some point. Their employee count in the financial aid department, exact same as GRCC. Also with the university I went to they had a book charge option, so if you had been approved for financial aid through Fasfa, you could charge your books and supplies to an account at the book store. You signed a waiver of course showing responsibility for the books and supplies signed for, all you had to have was your state ID or school ID. This all prior to receiving your aid this way kids had their books before their aid and the store made a ton of money; win win! Kids would spend mad amounts of money on supplies, back packs, lap tops and text books. So it seems like someone needs to lose their job or someone needs to address the problem. The school is losing capital from students getting dropped from classes, scarred off by threats of being dropped, scarred off by not being able to afford books, getting scared off by not having their student loan money to live off of and not buying books and supplies through their store! Some real poor management going on, especially for a learning institution! I'm a business student and can see the problem don't get why management can't or GRCC isn't in the game to make money!

My son studying there looks he finds his pathway of education comfortable

DO NOT STAY HERE. Promise over my life you will not enjoy this school or the CCA. They treat you like a criminal, when it's college. It's our time to be dumb and have some fun. They let us have no fun here at all.
