The visit was nice. Everyone was nice also helpful. Made you feel very secure and safe as far as having your child there. They always have people to reach out to. The whole experience was great!

Such a beautiful campus! Everyone is so friendly and helpful. Great school and awesome programs.

If I had to do it all over again, I'd still pick VA Tech. Beautiful campus. Hokie for life.

The school is cheap for a college and all and it has everything I'm looking for, but I don't know if the school would be shot up

Courtney Acey

I've grown up going to the games I've grown up to the bad things that have happened here but what people fail to talk about is how great the campus has improved and is in general they have so many amazing things there and yet people to over look this. It's one of the prettiest campus ( #1 actually) great food ( one of the top) one of the top healthiest campuses. I LOVE the campus and people everyone makes you feel like home

Jordi Anderson

What a cheap university!! My child got waitlisted from the University and today received a letter that they could not offer acceptance. It was printed on tissue thin paper in all black and white. Is it to hard to print a hoky in color? Isn't this a real university? What a bad reflection on a university. It's all OK. My child got accepted by some very prominent schools that did portfolio reviews in architecture. Tech did not. See your School of Design ratings in four years.

Perfect. I've been going to Virginia Tech since I was 5 years old. I'm 17 now and it has always been my dream to go here although my grades have never been able to reach there standards I recommend this University to everyone. All the students I have interacted with are the kindest people, the school spirit is unbeatable and the school atmosphere and downtown is perfect. The professors are amazing and respect the students fully my sister and cousin are attending right now and my mom, father and other cousin attended this school. It is the best university you will ever know. Apply, attend, accomplish your goals. This college will not let you down.

WARNING: Do not attend institution if economically disadvantaged, minority, or not from the state of Virginia. This following institution's primary population is white upper middle class children, who are from Northern-VA suburbia, and spend time drinking. If not interested in following activity, making friends will be hard The institution is marketed as "home away from home" since majority of population is from suburbia of Virginia. The only "diversity" aspect pertains to international students from Asian countries, and the institution markets it as "underrepresented" Education is subpar due to majority of endowment accumulated from research, which deters from teaching students fundamental principles and leading to budget cuts into their education (Ex: Math Emporium) Place is also not safe, bomb threat happened in Newman Library during finals week and shooting occurred in a residential community. The institution did not make it a priority to inform parents on such events. Residential community rent prices are increasing near the college town due to influx of student population, since the current administration wants to increase population by 5k each year. Traffic has finally become traffic in Blacksburg. Do not be influenced by the architecture. If accepted to institution do not attend.

One of the most beautiful campuses in the USA. Consistent Hokie stone theme throughout most of the campus. Tucked away in southwestern Virginia in large town. Surrounded by nature with rural areas and small towns.

I am a 2015 graduate of VT from China. 1. The university is nice but you will have a very difficult time to find any friends that are not your race, or the country you are from. In my 4 years, I only made 1 American friend. Just 1. We lost contact after my 3rd year. 2. The professors only seem concerned with making more money, instead of actually teaching you. 3. The professors do not seem to care about remembering their students. I recently visited campus on Oct 9, 2017. I used my own money to fly back here from China. I was hurt, and upset when I found my old professor (a professor I was very fond of) did not even remember me. He asked me several times who I was. I had to show him a picture of us together. Even after I showed him the picture, he still did not remember clearly who I was. He claimed "sorry, the classes were just too large". I was so hurt and upset by this. Which goes back to number 2, they only seem concerned with making money instead of teaching you. After a few years, you will be completely erased from their minds. I feel horrible that a man and a professor I thought cared about me does not even remember me, and can't even remember me after I showed him a picture of us together. I don't exactly know how to accurately express my feelings. I feel a little "betrayed". My professor did find me in his records, and he did apologize because he could not remember, but it does not help anything. I love the university because I spent 4 years of my life here, however now, if I had a choice to do it over again, I might have picked somewhere else.

I attended from August 2003 to August 2006 and was a transfer student from a community college. Nobody was friendly and seemed very standoffish. Seemed like one giant click so very lonely time for me that's for sure. I also chose to major in engineering initially and turns out that wasn't a good fit. Tried to switch majors to college of business and was told that I needed a 3.7 GPA to do an internal transfer (mind you that the college of business requires only a 3.0 for students transferring from another school). I ended up having to settle on a Psychology degree just to graduate. Basically very bureaucratic school full of unfriendly snobbish students and faculty. Based on my experience I would never recommend!

Love it!!! Beautiful School in a beautiful area of the Blue Ridge Mountains! Located in a great area, with lots of amenities nearby, with a shout-out to Blacksburg, and then Christiansburg, Radford, Salem, and Roanoke, VA... along with many other great small towns. It's always worth the money to get a great education, while surrounded with beautiful scenery and landscaping, such as Southwest VA. The School offers many different choices and fields of study, with top-notch state-of-the-art equipment, not to mention all the great sports...Go "Hokies"!!!

A GREAT PLACE TO PURSUE YOUR EDUCATION IF U WANT TO BE A ENGINEER, MYSELF PERSONALLY AM NOT A STUDENT HERE, BUT I'VE SPENT PLENTY OF DAYS & STILL TILL THIS DAY WORK ON TECH GROUNDS HOUSEKEEPING &/OR WORKING THE DINING HALLS, THE LANDSCAPING IS BEAUTIFUL IN THE SUMMER, MOST OF THE BOSSES & SUPERVISORS ARE REALLY NICE & COOL, WHICH MAKES THE JOBS A BREEZE, ITS FULL OF ENERGY & THE KIDS OF COURSE ARE WHAT MAKES THE GROUNDS...BUT OTHER THEN THAT EVERYTHING IS NORMAL & UP TO STANDARDS AS A WELL KNOWN INSTITUTE SHOULD BE. GO SEE FOR YOURSELF WHETHER YOU GO TO SCHOOL THERE OR GET A TEMPORARY OR FULL TIME POSITION!....

Excellent campus. The buildings are beautiful and made with the exclusive hokie stone. I loved the church on campus, very nice. The bridge is a must see and great for photos. The dining hall on campus, west end, was so good. People are out riding bikes, studying, platings sports. It's a perfect college environment.

This is the most beautiful University I've ever seen! The buildings, parks, and trails are scenic and clean. Beside providing great academic experience, this school provides important social enhancement for career, and community civil development. There are many hiking, and biking trails that are beautiful and safe. During Autumn, the place is magical. It has one giant cafetaria that serves great buffet with fair price. I wish my University of Maryland at College Park could be just half as good.

If you're black (African/American), expect racism. If I were you I would go to an open minded school like VCU or George Mason where there is real diversity Or an HBCU for that matter. 3% black population is just not enough and I get why this schools AA population has been declining. I'm telling you! It's difficult to build a community that supports each other with 3% of the students being black. We're very scattered. You're going to feel very much like a dot on a white paper. Out of place in most of your classes. It's hard to make friends here also because I think half the students have a lot of prejudice without even knowing you. I've been very depressed my entire stay here. I went from being a straight A student to barely passing my classes. At first I thought there was something wrong with me but It's just this horrid school. If you're a black parent reading this review, Please don't send your child here. It's better for a student to be at a place they feel welcomed and happy rather than a big school with a good name in the middle of nowhere that also has racial pressure. This is not a party school. There is little social life. The cops shut down parties, even though we're in the middle of nowhere and there is literally nothing else to do. There are several stories of cops racially profiling students, but that's probably at every school. While I was on campus, I saw three confederate flags in the dorm room of students (those are just the ones I saw, I can only imagine how many more there are). I don't want to infringe upon their right to hang those flags up high as they want in their room but that pretty much lets you know what their mindset is around here. Also don't get too excited about the sports here... We've had a terrible football and basketball program since I was a freshman and I'm about to graduate this winter. Hokies got great school spirit and food though. If you're into school spirit and food, this is the school for you. This is just my experience. Hope you have a better one if you choose to come here.

I went to Tech for the graduate school in 1997. I came directly from Beijing, a large and crowded city, to Blacksburg, a small town of some 43,000 residents, most of whom are Tech students and employees. It was a major shock to me. But it was a good shock. I really enjoyed the friendly environment and southern genteel hospitality. I began to enjoy the solitude. Academic training was rigorous. Technology infrastructure was superb. Library was top notch. Given another chance, I would not hesitate to go back again.

I went to graduate school in Virginia Tech in 1990's. School of Engineering is very highly ranked in the country. Excellent academic environment, no big city traffic and other distractions. Save your money if you’re out of state. They treat you like a second-class citizen. They are not attentive to any issues or request. Totally nonresponsive and apathetic! Save your money! You will enjoy VT-Undergraduate if: -You like rural places -From Virginia -Want to spend $1000 a year of dues for frat/sorority -Have family who will support you financially (tuition/fees, housing, food, clothing) -Like partying -Care about football team -Want to make lifetime friends in undergrad -Dont care about large classrooms You will NOT enjoy VT-Undergraduate if: -You want to be in an urban place with ample resources -Network with graduate students/professional schools -Out of state or country -Not enough money -Prefer small classrooms and mentorship Although regardless of which school anyone goes to, if they know how to talk to people, they will make the best of their resources in life. (This is place is robbing me of my education).

A huge campus and quite and calm after semester.

Zizhuo Yang

Thank you for depriving my right to education when I was in the hardest time in my life

Mikey Davidson

A un-diverse crappy state school, fixated in rural Virginia, with the majority of students being privilege, white, metro-DC area children, who treat the university as a drunken playground with their typical frat/sorority lifestyles and silver platter lives. Virginia Tech, a land grant-state school, with poor financial aid, gripped by revenue from athletics/licensed school gear, tuition/fees, and limited research expenditures. The administration plans on expanding the student population to compensate for government cuts in education, meaning more privilege children will influx within the university, creating a more un-diverse population. If you have at least half a brain, or a parent reading this, never matriculate at this institution.

My expectations were high,im a computer type guy and i was satisfied. My education payed off well with this school and this helped me get a job as a computer engineer at a very nice place.I work with cubes,i miss this place in a way, people there are nice and i just love that it got what i wanted,I was always a computer guy.Only dislike i have about it is some of the food.Gave it a 4 not because of that but no place is perfect

Great school! about 30 or so people played the best freeze tag game ever! its a school i would die for

Derek Cheater

Where do I begin for undergrad..... -This is a research school-Not bad, but it limits the teaching capability of the school -You learn everything on your own -You don't form a new perspective from the curriculum set forth -It seems the administration is mostly concerned about adding infrastructure and increasing the student population to increase revenue from tuition and fees -Financial Aid is terrible-especially if you are out of state/international (its expensive) -Un-diverse ethnically (at least the school is diverse politically) -Hard to make friends since the majority of the students are either in-state Virginia residencies/grew up in the metro-DC area I question my decision of matriculating here

Absolutely loved it. The pinnacle of what college life should be. Excellent people, beautiful campus and surrounding area (love Wind Rock & Dragons Tooth trails), awesome professors, and great bars / food. If you have found that you have grown up in a city... do yourself a favor and go to VT and explore the area. Appalachia is beautiful; great mountain biking, fishing, hiking, mushroom hunting and camping. Met my wife at VT. We now live in San Diego; moved from NoVA / Arlington. Still want to go back to visit the 'burg. Lots of VT folks here in San Diego; which is great... and it is an active Alumni with many events.

Although I'm not a graduate of VT, it has amazing research programs. The town reminded me of the university town of Ann Arbor, MI. Not as expansive, but good stores, nightlife and a huge football stadium. Quite far from cities like Richmond (3.5 hours) and DC (4 hours), which are perhaps the nearest big cities and big airports around. Located in the heart of the Shenandoah valley, good places to hike and camp around. Fun fact - the Roanoke Star near VT is the world's largest freestanding star.

Seth Poole

It's cheap! As always, you get what you pay for! It appears I'm paying people to give me tests and arbitrarily assign me grades! The best professors are paid the least. The worst professors are paid the most. Professor pay is based on how much research money the professor brings to the school, not teaching. That makes perfect sense because teaching is not important in a school. If you can afford it, go to a good school!

Evan Knobloch

As an out of state student from an urban area I was a little hesitant at first. Came for undergrad and loved it. Took a year to work in NYC and coming back for Grad school in the fall. The campus is beautiful, and so many hiking, swimming, fishing, running etc opportunities. What's most interesting to me is the sense of community. To that end, I think the rural atmosphere truly yields really tight and lifelong friendships. Academics are awesome. Especially if you're coming for Engineering, architecture, urban studies and the sciences and maths. All my friends in these fields had very good job offers in place before graduation. Facilities such as gyms and dining halls are second to none! Really looking forward to coming back this Fall for grad school!

It really feels like home. Great football, high quality education and professors, the students are down-to-earth, friendly, and welcoming. Great school-town relationship. The campus is BEAUTIFUL and there are lots of great outdoor things to do in the area. Also, the food is amazing. These were the best 4 years of my life. Liberal arts may not be as strong as engineering/science, but they've been doing a lot to improve that recently, such as by building a new center for the arts, etc. Also if you don't like small towns than it may not be for you, but honestly it NEVER felt like I was "in the middle of nowhere."

M Reaves

Large state university of 40K plus students. Pretty campus with a number of different architectural styles.

Ramana Mapakshi

My son is joining at vt for post graduation.

Jack Yang

If you are a minority, don't go VT. If you are out of state, don't go to VT. And if your career choice requires any kind of networking in college, then don't go to VT. As a foreign student, I was at VT from 2012 to 2014. It's was a nightmare. The department pays penny to let Phd students to teach a lot of your classes. You will hardly find any support group while you encounter difficulties to adjust culture shock and adopt new life in college. You will not make any friends outside of your own race. There is not enough academic advisor to assist you before u get into your major. What I have felt at VT was that you are just someone with a ID and who is paying full tuition. Also the rural location limits what you can do outside of class, yes, it's a beautiful little town. But it's not close to anything. I image gmu would take over VT as more popular choice amount many.

janam

Virginia Tech is such a wonderful place for study to get a joyful future life. I really love the Campus at Virginia Tech. When I will get into University I might going to choose "VT" for my future life. :)
