It is no exaggeration to say that the Graduate History Program at Providence College changed my life. I arrived in 2005 with an undergraduate degree and an MBA but also with a desire to deepen my knowledge of my lifelong avocation, history. I found a welcoming home where excellent instruction, challenging areas of study, and compassionate staff were eager to help me achieve all my goals. I graduated four years later with a Masters in American and Modern European history and with my researching and writing skills honed to new level. Before graduating, I had one of my papers accepted and published by a peer-reviewed journal. I continued into a doctoral program and received my PhD in 2015. Also since graduating I have published three books focused on twentieth-century military history. Without hesitation I can state that any successes I have achieved since the first day I set foot on campus are a direct result of the training and encouragement I received from the professors and staff in the Masters of History program.

Pursuing my masters degree in the history department at Providence College is one of the best decisions I've ever made. In my time there, not only did I benefit from the knowledge of extremely intelligent and dedicated professors who clearly want to help their students succeed and learned the skills and discipline needed to move on to doctoral studies, but PC allowed me to form the relationships that led me to my current career path. More than seven years after graduating, I am still in contact with my peers from the programs on a consistent basis and feel proud to be part of such a strong network of teachers, scholars, and community leaders.

As a recent graduate of Providence College, I only have high praise for the Graduate History Program. As a high school history teacher, and the father of a young daughter, I had reservations about finishing my master’s degree; however, I quickly realized that Providence College was exactly the place I needed to be! The small class size, knowledgeable professors, and affordable cost made it extremely feasible for a student like me. The program is rigorous, yet fair and rewarding. The professors do a first-class job of infusing 21st century skills into the classroom by providing their students with a good mix of lecture, class discussion, and student centered work. This way, class never becomes rote and mundane. Suffice it to say, a highly recommend the Graduate History Program at Providence College. Just do it and enjoy the ride!
