My son attends UO as a transfer student, with Econ. major. I've been very pleased with the support he has gotten. He will only be there 2 years & has met lifelong friends & found employment related to his field. It has been expensive, but UO financial aid has been very helpful. It seems like professors & grad students working towards university level teaching have been very responsive, have enough office hours to meet with students and provide answers to him when he is stuck. He is into sports, so whole football Go Ducks experience will be a lifelong connection for him, which to me is added bonus. Yes pot is prevalent, but that isn't his thing and drugs are prevalent everywhere from rural America to big cities, all choices one takes and opportunities one makes.

The U of O has a really awesome campus with those pretty bricks. The one thing I don't like about the campus is that the buildings are not in any real order, they're a bit all over the place. The math building is going way on the other side of the science buildings for example. Of course, all of their sports teams are awesome and the ducks are known everywhere in eugene (and probably in Oregon).

TWO THINGS: My wife, son and I walked the campus. We found some parts to be just gorgeous and then right next to it you'd see neglect. The stadiums, dorms and halls were very well designed in usefulness as well as appearance. The old cemetery is interesting to walk thru. TWO things we found very very odd, the first was that the food industry or offerings here were bad. The food was just bad in eugene period. The second issue here was that no one was smiling. We e even started playing a game to find someone who was smiling. We did find a lady reading by the student union who looked up and smiled at us as we walked by.

After many years at this University, it has its ups and downs. It is very centered around its athletic program, and sometimes the disparity between the funding is evident. I have had a mixed group of professors, varying from amazing to "wants to be here less than I do." If you are coming from out of state or out of country, the tuition can be expensive, certainly. You will find an educational slightly leaning towards a liberal point of view, but that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone thinking about coming to Oregon. Sometimes I found, as an intelligent student, that I was bored with some of the first year classes because of the varied levels of experience of incoming students. I find many of the classes try to play to the lowest common denominator, rather than leaving students behind, which has its ups and downs. As for the sexual assaults that are commonplace as indicated by the other comments, I have never experienced, nor heard of any in my circles of friends while attending this University, but cannot speak to it being safer / more dangerous than other universities. All in all I have had a wonderful experience here, and decided to make Eugene my permanent home, and am happy to say I have wonderful career prospects and a beautiful family, in large part to my experiences at the University of Oregon.

Last week I received my ACT scores and found out that my scores were not sent to the UofO like I requested. So I called the UofO to see if they would accept my copy of the scores as a temporary file until they received my official scores. They told me no and that they wouldn't be able to admit me in time for fall and they wouldn't make any exceptions even though I'm retiring from the Air Force next week. I had my supervisor call and then all of a sudden they were saying they denied me because of my grades in high school, which they failed to tell me, and which doesn't make any sense because I passed all of my classes. I called to talk to them and then the story changed. I was told that I was denied because I was missing core credit classes. But I'm applying for my freshman year and passed all my high school classes. Well I called this morning to talk to someone in charge and I ended up talking to this guy named Kirk Koenig in admissions. Kirk kept cutting me off when I was talking and told me he denied me because I received a D in English both my junior and senior year which I'm fairly certain isn't true but that's besides the point. The fact that I was denied admittance isn't the issue here. Kirk talked down to me through our whole conversation and I was nothing but respectful. He basically told me that I was too dumb to attend the UofO and that I should apply at Lane Community College. I decided to call the VA Representative at the school to see if there is any sort of waiver that I could get and use my ACT scores to prove that I'm competent enough to attend the UofO. I was told I would receive a call back once she had an answer for me. I got a call back from Kirk Koenig who sounded rather irritated but asked what was going on because it sounded to him like I was confused. I tried explaining to him that I was curious about a waiver and that I had been told three different things by admissions as to why I was denied admittance but he cut me off saying "first of all, I'm the senior admissions officer here at the University of Oregon and I make the decisions. I denied you because your grades do not meet the minimum standards set by the UofO." Then continued to talk down to me, again, and basically called me stupid the whole time but without actually saying it. Whenever I would try to say something he would just talk louder and then pretty much hung up on me after I thanked him for his time. As a United States service member who is about to become a veteran, and even as a civilian, I have never been treated so poorly by anyone. This is supposed to be a professional establishment. The lack of integrity and respect that I've seen from this school is appalling. Normally I just turn the other cheek when I'm treated poorly but this is unacceptable due to the fact that the University of Oregon is such a high praised school. I certainly hope that you don't treat all of your applicants like this. I grew up in Eugene and I've always been a huge fan of Oregon but you've lost all of my respect. Now I have absolutely no desire to attend the University of Oregon.

Pretty good experience but if you try to use the WiFi anywhere on campus prepare for new levels of frustration. If you live in the dorms it will be the worst wireless experience of your life, and don’t worry because nothing will be done to improve it. Pretty confident the school has been using the same routers since 1800’s. Also killer Mac from global scholars hall is pretty good

On a whim, we decided to attend the Ducks' womens' basketball game against Univ. of Washington... after seeing many alumni headed towards the gym. Fast paced game with Univ of Oregon winning. U of O is a university where you can buy your degree. Sexual assaults are common place and more often then not, covered up in order to protect the athlete offenders. If you don't play sports here no one cares about you. The academic buildings have leaks in the roof where water drips down.

One of the worst institutions you could possibly go too. Avoid it at all costs. They are nothing more than Nikes puppet and routinely invest Millions in student athlete buildings while downsizing the journalism and business schools due to budget deficits. Furthermore they take advantage of the International student group and use them as a personal piggy bank. Poor facilities, poor lecturers, GTF's are frequently on strike due to ridiculously low wages. Lecturers often do not reply to emails and the school is unable to provide anything they attempt to promise. Horrible. If you are there, transfer. If you aren't don't go cross it off your list immediately.

A University that puts its athletic programs ahead of its academic ones. Hundreds of millions of dollars go to their sports programs while the academic side is more or less an afterthought.
