If OSU were a real business, they would be bankrupt. Instead, they just keep raising tuition to address their mismanagement and incompetence. I am a student in engineering and have had nothing but bad experiences here. I did my pre-core classes at LBCC, and it was great. But OSU? From lost paperwork, to misapplied payments, to Professors who could care less about teaching, you name it. It has been sub-par in every regard. I am essentially on my own with no support from advisors, faculty or staff. I recently visited the ME program at PSU, where I am transferring next fall. The communication has been great so far. Several of my classmates from LBCC are there, and they couldn't be more happy. I can't wait to get there and bid the cesspool that is OSU goodbye.

Ted Lane

AVOID! BEWARE! OSU will violate your due process rights! OSU system is designed to render draconian punishments for minor traffic infractions at the drum head. Summary trial where you will be denied any defense, judged guilty, and sentenced by 1 person.

If two professors have been fired for incompetence , I say that administration is doing its job, well. The standards and level of expectations appears to be high. I graduated from the University of Washington and Teacher Assistants to the Professors were the backbone of the courses with quiz sections three days a week ! You could never pin down profs for an appt. You had to be screened through a T. A. Usually to get the golden time with the actual prof . of larger lecture hall courses like psych 210 , for example with Dr. Pepper Schwarts . Awesome Prof and engaging lecturer !!! This was back in 1980 s . My daughter attends UofO . It sounds like the curriculum in comp sci is very demanding like the engineering programs at the U.W. Many students really seem to love it here! And the Professor to student ratio is lower ,enabling more students the opportunity to speak with a competent professor , if desired . That can make every difference if you have questions you can't really raise your hand and ask in a huge lecture hall, because the Professor can barely hear you from the balcony or back rows of lecture . All in all , it sounds like Oregon State is doing there job and giving students an intense learning experience that they still need to be prepared to put forth effort and constant commitment to any undergraduate program there. I like that . and with that alone ,it exceeds the average standards of just getting by and doing as little as you possibly need to get 3.0 and gave up trying to get an appt .with the Professor !

The professors in Anthropology (School of Language, Culture, and Society) and Design and Human Environment (School of Business) have been very helpful, informed, and professional. As a graduate student in both fields, I have received ongoing commitment from both programs in getting my research published. As someone who identifies as a member of the LGBTQ community, I have also found a welcoming atmosphere and commitment by the University President, Graduate School, and ASOSU to strengthen diversity at OSU. The departments of Financial Aid and Business Affairs have some issues with getting Financial Aid out to students in a timely manner. While my fellowships and loans are quickly processed to pay for tuition and fees, the University tends to sit on funds once they have what they need. During my 5 years at OSU, through my Master's and PhD programs, I have started many terms without money for books, rent, or food due to these delays. Financial Aid estimates for college costs in the city of Corvallis are also somewhat short-sighted, leaving full-time non-traditional students often searching for supplemental support. While the University frequently utilizes only email for administrative communication (specifically Financial Aid and Business Affairs), attempting to solve any student concerns (even if considered minor) via email is not recommended. Email responses are rare and untimely at best from Financial Aid. Talking in person to a Financial Aid representative can be somewhat helpful. The Graduate School, on the other hand, is very timely about emailing responses to student queries.

If you plan on attending an online course, I wish you the best of luck. Out of the four terms attached, I have had to contact them every term because their website would fail to work. The staff worked in conjunction with the issues by providing the slowest and least helpful responses possible. I emailed them the day classes opened for enrollment and wasn't able to enroll in 3/4 of them. I emailed and waited. 2 weeks later, I was emailed and told that the classes were filled and she was "sorry." That was it.

I drive up there to pick up a school group. The parking is terrible, you would think that the University would have made better arrangements for the busses. The kids running the dorms were helpful. Not something I would be willing to to do again.

Worst 4 years of my life.... RUN AWAY if you apply for Engineering. I visited other engineering programs and regret every minute I spent here, most of the ENGR programs here are garbage. EVEN Arizona state has better engineering programs ranking than OSU.

Dorms are nice, bathrooms are spacious, I stayed for a night. They give too much food. When you get dinner/breakfast they give you a ticket to get another meal and if you don't have willpower you'll gain a lot of weight!! The campus is huge, fairly clean, but too many people.

Avoid if you're going into Engineering and computer science, unless you don't have a personal life. Jumped back into college after serving in the military and regretted it. The quarter system is not ideal for the near-impossible work required out of some classes. One class I had twice a week required 3 hours of reading every day outside of class, and 12 hours of group meetings every weekend. Not plausible if you're a full time student. Do yourself a favor. Got to community college, get your initial degree there. It's cheaper and is often more relevant than a 4 year degree these days.

I have several problems with OSU but I know it is because I didn't do something properly. However I just called in about 10 minutes ago to the OSU help desk about a compensation check I received. The lady I was transferred to was very rude towards me. I feel every time I call in for assistance the majority of the time the person is inappropriately rude towards me when I ask questions that help me further my knowledge on certain situations. Horrible customer service at OSU.

I am a Masters Student in Computer Science, Class of 2016 and I have loved the academics and culture at Oregon State University. There is so much to learn both inside and outside the classroom. Campus has well equipped labs. Courses are good. Since it is a quarter term system you have to take optimum credits, so that you do not overload yourself and have time to enjoy the beautiful city and travel around Oregon. Corvallis is one of the top 3 university towns of United States and the public transport is free for residents. (Mon-Sat)

After watching reports of people questioning people on campus about Thanksgiving and they're complete and utter absolute lack of knowledge of anything about Thanksgiving puts me into question of whether or not this University actually does any factual teaching at all this University is an embarrassment to the nation I do not recommend anybody attending this University you will lose intelligence

Awesome school - graduated in 2005. They have one of the most beautiful campuses you'll ever see and the small town atmosphere makes it easy to connect to other college students around you. If you live on campus - classes are only blocks away. Honestly, if you don't have a car everything is so close that you don't really need to have one. The education is great and many of the teachers taught me life lessons that still stick with me even today! I've noticed alot of the negative reviews coming from former students have to do with the work load, not necessarily with the quality of the education. Maybe they shouldn't go to college if they don't like the work load or too much homework, especially if your engineer. There's a reason Oregon State has one of the best engineer programs(just to mention one) in the nation and it's not because their suppose to make things easy on the students in the program.

I'm in my sophomore year here and two of the professors I've had have already been fired from incompetence. One other professor that I know about that I've had uses some melodramatic dialogue that he's prepared to shock students into studying, and he gives it every term. University Housing and Dining charged me a flat fee over the summer for a meal plan and has its single dining hall open 6 1/2 hours per day, however they always run out of food halfway through breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and the food isn't ready for the first ten minutes of each meal, so it's really open and fully serviceable 2 1/2 hours per day. In order to keep up rent in the summer since all the boomerang children majors have gone home, OSU books perhaps a hundred conferences which occupy the single dining hall that is open 2 1/2 hours per day. The conference attendants have unlimited food passes with which to take all the food that UHDS has already made me pay for. Back in spring, I was told that the housing contract cancellation deadline before penalty (which can be up to thousands of dollars) was the end of May. Since I was considering getting out of the dorms anyway, I cancelled my contract for fall, since I assumed I would have had to, on threat of financial loss. I foolishly stayed during the summer, subjected fully to the impossibility of life on a government campus. Just a few moments ago I noticed on the UHDS Twitter feed that they apparently changed the deadline to the end of July without telling me. Now I can reapply and, if I'm lucky, get a horrible room with a yearlong contract, or try my luck in the Corvallis teen job market and hope I can scrounge up enough roommates to meet the income requirements for apartments in the area. In the midst of this I must continue to pay tens of thousands of dollars in tuition for a school that employs professors that don't remember my name after I've introduced myself four times in various occasions, in an institution where I pay for an education and receive career-threatening judgment instead. Oregon State is truly a degree farm through and through.

Oregon State has repeatedly mismanaged and even misplaced paperwork I submitted to them as part of managing my classes, leading to extra time in college. At advising times and when meeting with the registrar you must ask the right questions or you will lose even more time because you didn't know the ins and outs of the system. Those who must deal with the bureaucracy of OSU over the long term will undoubtedly lose a few thousand dollars in tuition along the way.

I hate it here. If you're planning to enter engineering program. Welcome to hell bro. No joy at all. It's quarter system so everything you take in the weekdays is TOO MUCH and all of the homework and projects would be due the weekend. No rest at all and with that, the grading is hard and heavy for the students, the professors go very fast and they expect you to know everything from high school, they like to see 4 out 200 students gets A in their class and the others; Nevermind my class was hard HUH. Beside of that, there is no fun at all. Let's be honest. What to do in Corvallis? Nothing, Nothing interesting, You would get used to the same restaurants and same food, nothing new, nothing special. Everything is closed at 6pm-9pm. The weather makes you tired, it's raining each day for almost 7 months. You get wet, your car gets dust and there is no cheap car wash or detailing. Expensive!!! The halls are very old, like 200 years old and didn't renew them. The three advantages I see ( safety; it's safe here. The valley library; the only place you have to get used to. And there is no taxes) I advise you to go to portland. Much better, Modern city at least. I came from Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Ga. It was much better, a real student environment. Unfortunately, Could't continue

I'm writing this review to give others a helpful insight on my disappointing experience with this University as a Veteran of the Armed Forces and 100% education benefits {Post-9/11 GI Bill} college recipient. I applied as a full time student for the fall semester B.S. in Horticulture with a dual degree in Sustainability. I was proactive in meeting all their requirements months in advance. My issue is I couldn't register for my classes for 4 weeks due to the incompetence of my academic advisor {who also has your PIN# to resister per/semester}. I was left with unanswered emails, repeated cancelled appointments, no return phone calls, or any correspondence from my advisor. I wasn't asking for my hand to be held, as I was a Senior NCO in the military, but you are completely left independently to your devices. The academic advisor has zero regards in the success of your future and has committed little if any advisor-student interaction. She was unreliable in answering any questions or re-scheduling appointments she had cancelled. I'm completley dissatisfied with her being the ONLY advisor for the ECampus Horticulture students. She has failed professionally in advising me with my future aspirations, education abilities, academic pursuits, and a most importantly a degree plan. I am fully aware that this is NOT the right college for me. In closing, I did elevate my complaint with the chain of command in writing to the Dean/Director College of Agriculture, only to have my email returned to the advisor to finally contact me. I received absolutely NO response from the school to rectify the situation. I would not recommend this school to others or my Brother/Sister in Arms. I deployed 3 tours to Iraq and served my country honorably-this school is not worthy of my hard earned monetary GI Bill.

The campus is large and beautiful, but the process of transferring is next to impossible. The admissions won't even talk to me until I'm signed up. My issue is, I'm currently taking classes at a community college, trying to figure out what requirements I need to take in order to even get in the program I'm interested in, and they won't even help. Than I call the program admin and they're completely rude. Am I going to take a bunch of classes, spending thousands, just to find out none of them transfer? No. I won't. I don't recommend going here at all. The staff are extremely rude and unhelpful.

A pride center at the Oregon State University posted via Facebook an open letter stating that a veterans student group is not welcome in the student lounge. They’ve since retracted said post, but never apologized. What they said, We aim to resist the pain that US militarism has caused our siblings in struggle and we denounce the glorification of the system that is responsible for this violence” the open letter continued. The letter also stated that the communities the organization serves are "vulnerable" when it comes to the "ideological and practical consequences" of letting the student veteran group into the space. Disgusting liberalism. Leftist fascism at its finest. Welcome to the tolerate leftist mindset.

Beautiful campus, very helpful administration. The new media program is phenomenal and the instructors or attentive, caring, and beyond knowledgeable. I'm a graduating senior in electrical and computer engineering, and also in the University Honors College - and I firmly believe you can get as good of college (especially technical) education at OSU as anywhere else in the country. While technical classes can be really tough and/or time-consuming, I had my fair (many) share of 70+ hour panicky weeks, they are because programs expect you to have an in-depth understanding of the theoretical materials you can apply at a real-life, practical level. As for the Honors College, if you think you can get in coming to OSU, APPLY! Honors classes are worth whatever extra you have to put in to vs normal classes - because of the ways courses are structured, it can turn your experience in a particular course from "taking it to get it out of the way" to "eye-opening learning experience". Internship (MECOP for engineering majors - great program) and research opportunities also exist so make sure to take advantage of them.
