I called the book store about purchasing a book to "see if they had it" she said we cant tell prices over the phone but you can go to our website. I said ok let me type it in while ur on the phone. She says i have a customer but you can write it down. So as she calls it out i type it in like i wanted to do because i had no way to write it down before i get done she hangs up and guess what the website was incorrect and as far as im concerned I was a customer too. How rude lady.

Easy to register for classes after your first semester- you can even do it via the CVCC app on your phone. My first visit for registration for school was really terrible, felt more like they wanted me in & out rather than help. Aside from that they offer A LOT for degrees, certification & continue education! Shoot you can even take classes for hobbies like sewing, candle making, etc. I've even seen young kids here during summer for some art class. All the professors I've had so far are extremely caring, helpful & understanding. There's great amount of options for classes to take at all times of day, even evening/night (and of course online classes) which is super helpful as a full time employee & single mother. Sometimes you have to call & call & leave millions of messages before you get a reply from advising or testing center which can be annoying, I've learned email is usually the better route if available. They do respond eventually, sometimes you just gotta be persistent. They've got A LOT of students so I can understand why it can take a while to respond. Its easy to transfer your credits & placement test scores to other schools as well. I wish that the Alexander CVCC would expand & offer some core classes (like eng, psych, etc). I've enjoyed this school & the opportunities it has given me. ☺

Advisers are not helpful what so ever. The schools definition of "organized" is anything but.. The instructors here are awesome. Not all of them, but a lot of them. As a student pursuing engineering I took a lot of maths and sciences. So my review focuses MOSTLY on the mathematics department and the physics department. Both of these departments contain instructors who are fantastic. They express their idea completely and thoroughly and will assist you outside of class if need be. It's obvious that these instructors truly care about their students (especially at higher level class when there is less than 10 people in the class). The school it self has been alright. But the instructors have made my experience here wonderful. I really appreciate all the time they put into their lectures and their students.

I read all the reviews before posting mines because I believe there is always more to the story than meets the eye. I did come to the conclusion that Advisors need help and my suggestion to CVCC is "Get New Fresh Young People". My experience was much worse than I read. I came in the Admissions office and a lady greeted me. Asked me to wait a couple of minutes while the admissions lady became available. When the she did become available we called out my name from across the room, never greet me, as soon as she saw me walk towards her she never even waited for me and shook my hand, nor welcomed me or anything. I am a professional, business owner and parent with I high ethics for customer service and by far she failed miserably. And this is the first face I see when trying to make a decision of whether or not should I study there. I made a comment in regards to if state credit vs residents and she was stone cold dry and cut. Catawba Valley Community College, you SHOULD NOT have personnel and staff members like this. She never invited me to apply or asked me questions or anything. I made most of the talking. I asked a student that'd been there for some time and that person told me that that's how she felt but "most" of the professors did care. This is not acceptable. I did get one Professor/Staff Member to guide me to the Admissions office but can't really say it made a positive impact. Over all, I wanted to run out of that campus and never return. It really is a bummer because I was really really reeeaallyy looking forward to studying there. If I ever do I hope a lot changes by then. And i also hope that the President and Board of Directors of this CC take the time to read these reviews because now more than ever people are using these reviews to express their voices on what needs fixing. But I cannot tell you how disappointed I am in leaving the campus with such emptiness and disappointment.

I have returned for multiple semesters and con-ed courses here at CVCC. Throughout my time as a student I have found the school to be disorganized and poorly managed. I have, multiple times, had issues with the advising center and registration. As the staff have such poor interfacility communication, and even worse communication when it comes to student relations. I highly recommend WPCC or CCC&TI over this school if they have the classes you need. EDIT (I have since utilized CVCC for a few various classes and have not had nearly the issues I previously experienced. Though still rusty.

This school is a great option for anyone who wants to broaden their horizons in the workforce or for self fulfillment. There are many wonderful instructors, and hundreds of quality courses with transferable credits available.

Most of the courses are good and a lot of the instructors are very helpful and knowledgeable, but AVOID the medical courses if you can. The instructors don't seem to care to much if the students are prepared for a job. The materials and quizzes are almost pointless/useless because when it comes to the official tests that the class is supposed to be training you to pass, most of the material and training you have received is either outdated or not covered or a large portion isn't covered. Essentially you blow a huge amount of time and money into a class trying to get into something that you really enjoy and want to make a career out of, only to fail due to how poorly the class is designed and how poorly the instructors preform. To any considering a medical field, I recommend you go to Caldwell Community College or just about any other college.

I have been a student at CVCC since January 2012. I graduated with my Associate's in Early Childhood Education in 2016. I have been continuing to take general education classes there as I am working in my Bachelor's degree at ASU. CVCC has been a place of huge personal and academic growth for me. I cannot praise the college enough! I will always be a Red Hawk!

started my college journey here first and quickly realized it was a mistake. test scores lost. confused workers. when you have a problem (which more than likely you will) nobody answers the phone no matter what time or day it is or what department. I kept record for an entire week of how many times I've called which was 22 times in five days that I heard a voicemail. school does not care. transferred to Cleveland Community College and it was the best decision of my life

I have several friends that attended Catawba Valley Community College. They explained CVCC has a K4 to age 64 education approach. Beautiful campus with a hilly surroundings. This college really supports the surrounding community.

Anna Jenkins

Most of my instructors were wonderful. It's a good CC for getting that Associate's degree.

Alysa Taylor

This is easily the worst school I have ever been to. You can never get in touch with anyone you need. They are disorganized and just an all around horribly managed school. There are some good instructors though, if you can ever get in touch with anyone to get all the information you need to get into the school.

Worst school ever. Started out in the CNA program. The advisers are awful, to say the least, very Unorganized and so unhelpful. Will NOT receive another dime of my money. Western Piedmont had my business! They are amazing and answer phone calls and or returns my calls within that same business day. I am still waiting on a phone call back from months ago from CVCC. I would send my dog to such a place, everyone I've talked to feels the same exact way.

If you're interested in quality education, equivalent to a DI or DII school but at a fraction of the cost, CVCC is your answer. With the newly built Workforce Solution Complex, you get world -class, top of the line, instruction and equipment to train and learn on. CVCC rivals the to schools around. This is a great school to have in our community.
