Today December 13 , The University of Michigan said Monday it will not renew its agreement with the Confucius Institute ( Chinese Communist ) when the partnership expires in 2019. What about Columbia University ?

Tina Ye

Visiting Columbia for the first time. Really blown away by the beautiful buildings... Too bad all the libraries require valid student ID to access.

The college was very unfair to the parapsychology department. Thankfully those guys managed to start a successful paranormal investigation business and have defeated gozer back in 84.

A 1787 charter placed the institution under a private board of trustees before it was renamed Columbia University in 1896 when the campus was moved from Madison Avenue to its location in Morningside Heightsoccupying 32 acres (13 ha) of land.Columbia is one of the fourteen founding members of the Association of American Universities and was the first school in the United States to grant the M.D. degree. The university administers the Pulitzer Prizeannually. I have been reading reviews from quite a few COUNY & SUNY Colleges. I've been reading for a few hours. This college has been the only one that does not have true academic reviews. I haven't truly fund anything out abouthow the teachers/ professors work with students? How is tutoring and the help center? What about student life and government? What about clubs students join? What about how helpful are professors? Do they care about students passing their grade? What about this racism and segregation that I rarely keep encountering? Most reviewers speak of their family's history or the college being Ivy League. I'm smelling White Privilege. Durant smell good. When do you numb skulls soak on education? Or are you just gliding through Columbia University enjoying the scenery?

Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar statue is here and his book named “Waiting for VISA” is taught here as a textbook.

CU has fantastic campus in very nice area. Love the university life there.

Jarrod Long

Scheduled a tour and info session, traveled from Midwest and were casually told the tour guides were busy with something else, so we would only get the info session. Beautiful campus revealed during self-guided tour, but felt like the info session portrayed how exclusive they are...i.e., we need them more than they need us. Daughter still interested, but liked much better how Barnard and NYU treated us.

Miki Ogawa

Nice view

Edward Ho

Heard awesome stuff about this university. Has a superb reputation where I am from.

Augustine Daudu

Such a welcoming campus to be in.

After getting her Masters at MIT, our daughter will begin a Ph.D program at Columbia in the fall of 2015. We've seen pictures and the campus is beautiful, and her apartment is gorgeous. We're so proud!!

Suzie Iwadare

I just like the vibe there

Paweł Depukat

Fantastic place, worth to stay a little longer and just breathe the air of science and knowledge....

Peter Li

Beautiful campus with historical atmosphere. The most famous university around world.

Rosco Sam

This University is very interesting in the way that they like to segregate people and show preference based on skin color and sexual orientation. What happened to teaching and letting people be free to show what they are made of on the inside and not the outside appearance that they were born with? It's sad.

AenBird

amazing place for hangout with friends study good food drinks and best environment

Columbia gives you an access to a great network, excellent professors, smart classmates, professional opportunities, and even Grade Non-Disclosure. There are two things that make Columbia stand out: New York City and finance classes/opportunities. I chose Columbia because it was a top 10 school and I wanted to live in NY mainly for personal reasons. There are a few other things that make Columbia excellent: (1) A surprising level of community, especially for a "city school." (2) NYC. I really only thought about this from a personal perspective coming in but it is a helpful resource since every industry and almost every big company has offices in NY you can find time to meet with people from any industry or company you might be interested in without having to plan your whole day or week around it. I just don't see those kind of things being possible outside of NY. There are some downsides to Columbia though. (1) Business school is expensive and NYC is expensive, put them together and you end up paying a painful amount of money. (2) It is generally understood that our marketing professors aren’t very good. My core marketing class was painful and electives were generally taught by mediocre visiting professors – pretty disappointing when you see the industry legends teaching the finance courses. (3) The facilities are, for lack of a better word, poor.

One of the four founding institutions of AAU), one of the Ivy League schools. Columbia University was founded in 1754 by the King's Charter issued by King George II of England. Columbia provided me with an excellent foundation and confidence to think outside the box, take on new challenges and embrace learning. The School of Social Work provided me with the knowledge to become an accomplished clinician.

Awesome campus, elite academics and unparalleled opportunities that only very few schools can match up to

James Thomashower

My alma mater. Class of '73. Simply the best.

Oliver Gärtner

Great campus. Spent here three months as a visiting research assistant. Met very smart people.

Irwin Tyrell

Nice

Christopher Lorn

As it's my Alma Mater, I'm biased. It's a beautiful campus nestled in a rough neighborhood of Morningside Heights and definitely functions within its own distinct university bubble. Check out Butler Library and take a ride down the banisters or hit up college walk during spring to get a taste of rows of cherry blossoms. My favorite tradition is the tree lighting ceremony that happens every November.

LEi Tachibana

No doubt it's a tiny but famous school in Manhattan. Nice to take a walk inside.

It's an amazing university. You get both the city life and the seclusion of a college campus. It's a gorgeous place to visit and it's even more beautiful when you're there around the winter. I recommend traveling and spending and afternoon in the upper west side area.

This is a real campus. Very beautiful. Fantastic.

Campus is well worth a visit even just to take in the scenery. Try to spot the subtle differences between the four main buildings that sit in the center, on either side of the street that crosses the campus. Great bookstore

Smith Moore

Beautiful place! The college's architecture is old and beautiful. Walking on campus and feeling a strong academic atmosphere.

Mo A

Columbia Univ. was a really prestigious place where it challenged me academically and at the same time gave me valuable experiences and social network. Not to mention, beautiful campus!

Matthew Key

This school is a joke. You better have a 4.rich to get in here.

Eunice Pearson

My grandson will be attending there this summer

Vita Buonavita

One star because you can't get a Dr's appointment, you wait 3-5 months and if you are Lucky enough to get an initial appointment, the follow UP is the same 3 months wait, NO night Hours, you have to take the day off from work. Great Dr.'s but what is the point if you can't see them ?

Megan Mei Lam

It's an amazing university. You get both the city life and the seclusion of a college campus. It's a gorgeous place to visit and it's even more beautiful when you're there around the winter. I recommend traveling and spending and afternoon in the upper west side area.

Norbert Morin

A beautiful campus in the American style I went to New York at least sixty times and it was my first visit to Columbia. The fact that it is almost on the threshold of the Bronx is probably what made me hesitate to go there. I should not have waited so long! The Washington Heights main campus is easily accessible via subway line 1, 116th Street / Columbia University. This station, at the corner of Broadway, takes us out near the central alley that leads to the "Alma Mater" statue, the heart of the campus, located right in front of the library. In contrast, is the Faculty of Humanities (Humanities). As in most urban American campuses, greenery is ubiquitous. The buildings are imposing, neoclassical style. The Visitors Center is located in the library building. You can get a free map of the campus. During my visit, I was able to follow a group of visitors who benefited from the explanations of a student guide, opposite the Faculty of Humanities. The campus is really on the heights of Washington Heights, overlooking the Hudson River and Hudson Parkway (Route 9a). A little south of campus, at the corner of 112th Street and Amsterdam Ave is St. John The Divine Cathedral, which would be the world's largest cathedral, even unfinished as we are told it is. It's still to see.

Liba Vaynberg

I love Columbia University; I'm currently an MFA student there. The area is very safe and has excellent security. The quad is surrounded by beautiful shops and cafes. It is accessible via the 1 on 116th street. The institution is spread out but it seems like the undergraduates are concentrated in the quad.

Vu Thang

Good. Set in Upper Manhattan, this 1754 Ivy League school focuses on medicine, business, the arts & more.

Lety Celeste

I am a columbia alumni and i would just like to say Columbia's institution has wonderful tile flooring in the girls bathroom. It really contrasts well with the mahogany shower curtains. The library books are well maintained, the pages are very crisp, and smell of a faint honey-dew lemon. I do not have a single complaint. All in all, I've had had a pleasant experience. They're ColumbiAWESOME if i do say so myself.

Sri Wahyudi

One of the world's leading educational universities, greetings in education

Rogerinaismyqueen

My mother went here. It's a beautiful place. I dream of getting in. I'm told by my teachers that I have the smarts, I just need to put more effort into my work. It's a great place and I really hope to major there in science one day.

G Aquino

Neat and compact campus in densely populated Manhattan. Had a nice time walking around, in awe of the beautiful buildings and the school's most influential alumni, including President Obama.

Elischia Fludd

I like Columbia's campus, it is quite spacious and makes you feel as though you have entered a scholarly area, which is what I expect of college campuses. The great lawn is indeed great and the library has a wide range of scholarly journals. Columbia is pretty great with the amount of opportunities it has for its students. A draw back is the reputation and treatment it has of the surrounding communities it occupies.

David Borgonjon

Surprising that such a powerful and wealthy institution refuses to bargain with the graduate student union, and actively engages in union-busting - or perhaps it's not so surprising.

harol andres Casanova

I love visiting this magical place in New York, the library of Columbia University, it is a beautiful building that is worth contemplating for its majestic architecture that dates back to ancient times, if you are apacionado by this type of buildings is a highly recommended place visit.

Joshua Miller

Wonderful academic atmosphere and great place to work and do research...

Chen Minhao

A place where you can get peaceful time at the center of business.

Vinicius lara

The Selifix

(From a visitor's perspective) Beautiful campus with friendly security staff and helpful information associates. Would expect nothing less from an ivy league

Su Ann Lim

A campus full of life, history and New York City vibrancy. Check out the various libraries, the science building and the performing arts building! Poetry readings happen at the basement of the chapel. And if you can find an entrance to the underground tunnels...

Joakim Envall

This university is a very interesting university and it seems very nice and have great student life. Personally it's the university I want to apply for in the near future. ❤

D Ricard

Had the opportunity to visit with my daughter last week. I have lived in NYC years ago and had false expectations of being overwhelmed by a university in the big apple. I was so wrong. Columbia University feels as if it's in it's own beautiful bubble in a quieter neighborhood all it's own with a great richness and diversity in it's student body and seemingly very happy, proud, comfortable students all around. Beautiful buildings, out of a movie, with a sincere feeling of really genuine people moving about campus.

Richie Rich

An Ivy league education in your own backyard. One of the top 10 schools worldwide. If you have what it takes to get in, make sure you network with everyone possible. Therein lies the true value of Columbia and others in its category. What you learn in the classrooms is top notch. Research among the finest.

Contact Basso

Very interesting and diverse alumni..what an ivy league school should be

Rafael Yau

This college is so beautiful, Education here is excellent. The professors really care about your success in class and outside of school. Staffs are friendly and attentive. My sister and her best friend graduated from Columbia University in New York City an excellent school for people of every persuasion from around the world. My sister has a graduate degree in art, French and nursing which she used at Memorial Sloan Kettering before she and her best friend began work at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Her friend teaches art history and French culture at Bard Graduate Center and is a curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. My sister works as a professional artist for Patricia Phelps De Cisneros with her artwork on permanent display on New York's Central Park. Columbia insists that its students graduate with the confidence and skill to know that they will be successful and valuable members of society.

Khel Khel Me Gyan

nternationally known faculty, brilliant, hard-working students, great research and top ranked graduate schools, a stunning campus where some of the most prominent founding fathers studied when it was called King's College and sided with the British during the American Revolution.

Tonya

We went for a campus tour and I loved the campus. Although it was cold and snowing, the snow on the trees was lovely and the buildings looked so majestic. I liked that the campus was like its own world...when you enter the gates it's almost like you're not in New York anymore. The tour was organized into small groups depending on what major you were interested in. The guides were friendly and knowledgeable and the presentation was very informative.

Jack Malloy

Visited the campus once and it was amazing. Much better than the atrocious campus at the school I ended up attending.

Yvonne de Beer

When you have a teacher like Elizabeth Lederer This university sucks. ‘When they see us’.

Bárbara Donatiello Fiore

Come here as a visitor, and, even without a chance to know better, Its a very beautiful and cultural place

Emil Montero Arbaje

One of the best universities in New York . The campus is very nice and big and you can get whatever you want around .In the nearby areas you can get restaurants, shops and pharmacies. The area is very safe , you can walk to three o'clock in the morning without problems.

Beautiful campus! The architecture is amazing.

Adam Claymore-Condon

my cousin wyatt goes their he is a awseome cousin

Adesuyi Ajayi

The combination of a diverse and rigorous curriculum, extraordinary students and teachers, and the buzz of the "Big Apple", appeals to many but still scares some parents at the undergraduate level. Columbia College or Columbia Engineering coupled with the "street smarts" New York life, offers is synergistic advantage. At the post graduate level, the quality of research of doctoral candidates, postdoctoral Fellows and the Faculty, makes Columbia University, one of most impactful global places to conduct academic research

Krishna vamshi220

I proud of my indian man of dr. Br ambedkar studying in Columbia university in 1917 year

Nissan Lamusicano

I had a great visit! One of the most unexpectedly beautiful places and definitely the most beautiful university I've seen in my life!

Buy Bitcoin people it's your last chance to get in this cheap

Jackal Bandit

Quiet over the Christmas break but nonetheless a great sight to see. Just being in a university of it's statue was impressive enough but for them to leave building open to the public was a real treat. There wasn't much around in the way of food, or help getting around but the signage is more then enough.

Columbia University (Columbia; officially Columbia University in the City of New York) is a private Ivy League research university in New York City. Established in 1754 near the Upper West Side region of Manhattan, Columbia is the oldest institution of higher education in New York and the fifth-oldest institution of higher learning in the United States. It is one of nine colonial colleges founded prior to the Declaration of Independence, seven of which belong to the Ivy League. It has been ranked by numerous major education publications as among the top ten universities in the world. Columbia was established as King's College by royal charter of George II of Great Britain in reaction to the founding of Princeton University in New Jersey. It was renamed Columbia College in 1784 following the Revolutionary War and in 1787 was placed under a private board of trustees headed by former students Alexander Hamilton and John Jay. In 1896, the campus was moved from Madison Avenue to its current location in Morningside Heights and renamed Columbia University. Columbia scientists and scholars have played an important role in the development of notable scientific fields and breakthroughs including: brain-computer interface; the laser and maser; nuclear magnetic resonance; the first nuclear pile; the first nuclear fission reaction in the Americas; Thomas Hunt Morgan's drosophila experiment – considered the origin of modern genetics; the first evidence for plate tectonics and continental drift;and much of the initial research and planning of the Manhattan Project during World War II. It maintains research centers outside of the United States known as Columbia Global Centers. In 2019, Columbia's undergraduate acceptance rate was 5.1%, making it one of the most selective colleges in the United States, and the second most selective in the Ivy League after Harvard. Columbia is ranked as the 3rd best university in the United States by U.S. News & World Report behind Princeton and Harvard In athletics, the Lions field varsity teams in 29 sports as a member of the NCAA Division I Ivy League conference. The university's endowment stood at $10.9 billion in 2018, among the largest of any academic institution. Ilya Rutman

I’m an applicant to Columbia University 2019-2020! I had very great experience with an interviewer as well as campus tours. The history of this university is interesting and motivating you to new beginnings! Even if I would be rejected, thank you Columbia for all experience I gained through my lifetime as conferences and great professors speeches! Looking forward to coming over to your campus as soon as possible to get new motivation for my entire life! Thank you!

Vivian Hir

I really liked the architecture of Columbia. You feel like you are in this small bubble in NYC since it isn't that loud and kind of quiet. I gave this rating based on the campus tour.

João Cardoso

Beautiful campus in a nice part of the city, as well as being one of the best universities in the world. Highly recommended!

All the lawyers in Las Vegas that graduated from Columbia University were excited to see that my son visited their university when he went to New York City. Columbia has such a beautiful campus. My wife loves the diners. The students are so lucky to achieve such success before and after going to Columbia. Just living near the campus is a fabulous experience.

Derrick George

Excellent education. World class university in the heart of Manhattan. Doesn't get any better. -Columbia Alum 2000

Scott Sokol

Thanks for educating my brilliant niece. She loved grad school at Columbia after a terrific undergraduate experience at Duke University!

Olejaja K

Graduation party was great

Cesar Javier

The universities reputation for the treatment of black students or brown students is actually true. How can this be posible? No matter where or when, any university in the world has students from every corner of the world. Be careful people!!! Other than that, beautiful place.

lyric baby

As I'm biased I work for Columbia University overall a great academic area with a abundant array of eateries in the area pleasant neighborhood with a variety of ethnicities and cultures.

Alexander Hamilton

I didn't get a scholarship to this place in the end, but hey; my friend Burr went here and Burr is a cool guy. Edit: I changed my mind, Aaron Burr has no opinion on anything and is therefore an idiot.

David Figueroa

Columbia University is a magical magical place! It is a great place to learn and a beautiful campus. If you are ever in the upper west side it is a great place to see. Low Library is at it's center and draws a lot of attention and a lot of the students to it's steps during the summers, hence why it is sometimes nicknamed "the beach". In terms of the school, there are a ton of wonderful professors and if you want a really well rounded education and don't mind taking a lot of time learning all kinds of things then Columbia College is the place for you with it's world famous core curriculum.

Marc

Amazing experience doing research here. Can't tell if it's worth the price because I didn't pay!

I got my Ph.D. at Columbia GSAS and I loved every minutes of my time there. The campus is beautiful with buildings and rooms from another time. The teaching and research are top-notch and the staff is very friendly. This is a very large university covering a wide range of subjects, and it has the added benefit of being located in the most extraordinary city in the world.

Ben Schaeffer

My Dad was a Columbia alum. I love Columbia's campus, and it's beautiful, but I was more a fan of Yale overall (which I applied to both as an undergrad and got waitlisted and deferred and then again for grad school when I got in) although New Haven as a city is kind of blah. Although, Columbia's location affords students all of NYC's resources, it somewhat whittles down what Columbia has in terms of a "real campus' though like all the Ivy League institutions, Columbia owns a significant amount of land and property in Morningside Heights. Columbia does have an impressive campus for being one of the two Ivy League universities located in New York (Cornell of course being the other, which has a spectacular campus up in Ithaca) but Columbia's campus, while compared to other Manhattan campuses like Hunter, NYU or The New School is an actual campus with a sense of spatial design and beautiful beaux arts architecture. College Walk, Butler and the Low Memorial Libraries are all particularly beautiful. I went to college in Amherst, Massachusetts for my undergraduate degree, and then to The New School for my MFA. I was not "Ivy league" per se, though I did get into the Yale School of Drama as a grad student (got better fellowships/assistantships elsewhere though). The Ivy Leagues were definitely NOT for me, as I was more a fan of "alternative" forms of higher education and the Ivy League schools to me were more conservative and traditional. Yale and Brown as the more "artsy" Ivies tend to buck that trend a bit. Sometimes I do wish I'd gone to Yale for graduate school, but the major issue was that they weren't that financially generous. I think it was also because since my Father was an alum of Columbia (not Yale), while I was the the son of an Ivy League graduate, I myself wasn't one (they pay attention to factors like that). Plus, what family connections at each individual Ivy League institution you have (legacy applicants get preference in the admissions process). Therefore, I got into Yale Drama, BUT, was vastly underfunded comparative to the fact that, well it's YALE -- it's not like they couldn't afford to give me more money. Maybe if my Mother had been a Yale Alumna (rather than University of Chicago) things would have been different. However, that made me VERY attractive to all the other non-Ivy League grad schools that accepted me like The New School, NYU, Pratt, University of The Arts. etc....BECAUSE they were all competing with Yale for me as a grad student. So, it ended up being a great bargaining chip.

As a visitor I like the size of the campus. Beautiful and full of history

Josh E.

An Ivy League school in arguably the best city in the world. If you're lucky enough to get accepted, you should go here. The campus is in the upper west side of Manhattan and looks pretty all year round.

Rosa Santiago

Miss it. Been so long since i've studied here. Filled with so much history and beautiful as well.

Hannah Schwartz

I love Columbia. I was too scared to apply here early decision there, so I applied to Penn instead and I got in and am really happy cause it has a better campus. Still, Columbia is great and I want to go to grad school there.

Archie Oman Egbert

I met some of the best people I know here at this campus. It is not a cheap school, but it was worth every penny. If you are in town and want to spend an afternoon walking through a beautiful campus, this is the place for you.

Ornwara Tritrakarn

Beautiful and historical campus. In summer, the atmosphere is very good but most cafeterias are closed. So, people are forced to find food from outside.

Ann Gooding

Both my parents went there and received a great education.

Robert R

Columbia offers an enriching and stimulating milieu. The students are thoughtful and curious. The profs are brilliant. The classes are challenging. And the intellectual vibe is radiant. The campus is a beautiful and majestic oasis within the greatest city in the world. In short, there's simply no place on earth that measures up.

Samay Sahoo

Absolutely beautiful campus that'll make you forget you're in the middle of NYC! The info session and campus tour were both really informative, enjoyable, and curated. The buildings all flow together and the old architecture is fascinating to behold.

If Colgate University has some good reviews, this school definitely deserves more.

Used to be a good University. Now overrun with oil money types. Slimy.

Columbia University has a very good atmosphere and has a very good reputation and the students were well respected. It has a big campus and Columbia University is highly recommended.

Unbelievably spacious campus in ny. Historical buildings are so stunning.

Fire Elizabeth Lederer. She played a big role in wrongfully convicting the kids in the Central Park Five case. She should not be teaching law. #WhenTheySeeUs

Farhan Ahmad

Beautiful and calm place to study and learn in NYC.

Sonal Patel-Sheth

Such a historical place to explore. Love the small hidden paths and gardens and abundance of libraries

Felicia Slogoski

Like no other. Best Ivy League school especially if you would rather be in Manhattan than stuck in suburban Boston, which you most definitely would.

Mike D

Spider-Man was filmed here!

Ervyna Febrianny

My dream university!!! I am surprised that this place is so huge

Nullya Fernandes

I always told my mother that my dream is to go to Columbia University, I'm from Brazil, she's very well spoken, I hope to win a scholarship.

Isabelle Tran

Lovely and clean campus with old architect.

Kara Thrace

The campus is small relative to the other's I've seen on the West Coast, but it's still a beautiful little place. It's got a posh intellectual vibe, which makes sense considering the wealthy students who attend. It's up pretty far north (generally crime gets worse above 101 in Manhattan) so don't go wandering up past campus grounds.

Justine Kmy

That's a must for every traveler to visit the campus, you can feel the vibes right in the heart of New York. Being an exchange student in the US, I would've loved to experience that university!
