As far as community colleges go, this one is a great choice for anybody trying to save a few bucks. The majority of the instructors really care about the students and how they do. There are a few bad eggs but you get that anywhere you go. They offer a wide variety of classes, programs, certificates, and degrees so if you're just wanting to improve your photography skills or if you're trying to get a degree they probably have something for you. The schedules have a good variation in times and days so those of us who work and go to school can still have at least one day off. All in all, I've actually been vary impressed with my experiences with this school so far. (5 semesters in.)

TMCC offers the same courses as UNR, at half the cost for a better experience. Each department is full of knowledgeable and dedicated professors who are not tasked with teaching in a lecture hall of 200 people. TMCC has awesome science degree programs and faculty, with courses that transfer seamlessly to UNR.

Andrea Buchanan

I adore TMCC. They offer many of the same classes as UNR at about half the price. The classes are small and the staff is very friendly. If you're in search of higher learning, start here.

I owe a great debt of gratitude to TMCC. It gave me the tools and enabled me to open the doors to be able to seek a serious career in academia - a field very difficult to get into when you have lived at or below the poverty line your whole life as I have. TMCC is a place where students get what they put into their education. It won't provide you prestige by itself but it can certainly be a gateway to some of the top Universities in the nation if you really stand out and achieve the highest possible academic and leadership positions on campus. You must be involved on campus if you really want to be successful; this is non-negotiable. I would seriously recommend Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society as a partner to the education you receive at TMCC, especially if you truly want to open doors for yourself and build yourself a meaningful future. The TMCC faculty is exceptional, especially the History department. They are the top of the line in the entire State of Nevada in the field of History. Most faculty of all departments truly go above and beyond for their students and create profoundly memorable academic experiences. The library staff - particularly the interim library director Neil Siegel - is the single greatest asset any student has to be a successful student for the rest of their lives. Of course, TMCC isn't perfect and some of their administrative procedures aren't perfect but much of the bureaucratic problem is not necessarily the fault of the college but of the laws of the State of Nevada and Nevada legislators' lack of prioritizing education standards high on their budget list. However, bureaucracy aside, if you truly apply yourself, TMCC can be a magnificent stepping stone in your academic journey. At TMCC, as in anywhere you find yourself in life and in any aspect of your life: if you want to be successful, if you want to secure a significant and meaningful future for yourself, if you want to be outstanding and stay outstanding, you're going to have to give it everything you are and everything you have. You will have to give 120% of yourself at all times. If you accept mediocrity into any part of your life, it will spread like a infectious virus into every part of your life. Academia is not for the mediocre.

I have been a student at this school a few times over the years and I am friends with a number of professors; I studied art, anthropology and fire science at this school as well as getting all of my core classes complete there so I could transfer as a junior. That said; this college has definitely taken a turn for the worst. It appears under the guise of trying to create higher standards to would improve completion rates they have taken on policies that are discriminatory. Their policies in grading, classes offered, completion rates and raises in tuition primarily effect those of a the lower social economic strata and those with learning disabilities, those who have to work. those who have a long way to go before they are ready for college/university education. When I first attended TMCC I needed the extra help because I did not finish high school or have good study habits while I was in high school. I had to take a lot of the non-transferable classes, some more than once because of poor decisions made in high school. If It was not for TMCC I would not be where I am today. I met some wonderful professors there that mentored me in my education and with a lot of hard work I made it. But now classes that are not transferable, remedial classes such as 090, 095 have a negative effect on your GPA which effects transfers and count towards your credit limit for financial aid but you cannot get financial aid for them. The math department is horrible, I had a professor that was teaching stuff that you should not see until 120/126 in 095 and when I realized it and said something the response I got was "well you will do better in the high level math classes now". That is like telling someone to train to hike Mt. Peavine by climbing Mt. Everest. Some of the professors I know are highly demoralized and many of the best have moved on to teach at different schools. That said I would like for TMCC to go back to being a college for the community- everyone in the community. I did sent a few emails to different departments around the school and talked to them and received no response.

Classes, staff, professors, this place was my start, I worked here and went to school here and I was never intimidated or scared. The campus is beautiful and has lots of fun little hidden spots to enjoy. It is an amazing place to go!

Work study is not available to students who pay for classes out of pocket. Students who pay for classes out of their pocket do not receive equal treatment as their peers. The instructors and administrators encourage this behavior seeing that over ninety percent of the funds are federal. Hard working individuals who believe in earning their way are minorites on campus and are treated as such. The board of education states that "it may be poor practice, but it is not illegal", it does not fall under a protected status of the EEOC. Please reach out to the EEOC and find a resolution.

Overall not a bad school. Commencement only has a small reflection of TMCC but sometimes small impressions carry the most influence. The TMCC graduation was very scripted and focused mainly on teachers and alumni. The focus was not celebrating the hard work of the students that earned a college degree. The names of all the students were very rushed and it's a shame to look forward to graduation and experience this.

It was awful 18 years ago. Nobody ever knew anything, couldn't or wouldn't help, hurry up and wait for something that never gets done and constant changing of criteria to make sure you always grasp, but never reach the desired goal. I really loved how they said, "You took this 2 years ago, I see you did very well, but you have to take the class, again even though you got an "A" it doesn't count." It's such a scam. I wanted to see if anything changed..... NOPE. I only called for simple answers, last month, numerous attempts time and time again for communication, same vicious cycle. I was considering a class. I have no faith in this school. I deterred my kids and will advise others to do the same. Good luck in finding something much better.

I was interested in TMCC paralegal program. I emailed them on their website asking for more information. They responded with please call us. My only day off is Monday as of right now. I called them on my day off i was never greeted by anyone just an automatic message telling me to please hold and the next representative will be right with you. After holding for about 5 mins i got sent to voicemail. So i left a message and they did call back rather quickly. Although after they called me back the young lady seemed to just asked me if i wanted to make an appointment to speak to someone about the program. I mentioned to her that my only day off is monday and i really only had 3 questions that could be answered over the phone real quick. I asked if there was anyone who could do that. I didnt want to waste anyones time or mine by setting up an appointment for 3 simple questions that would really decide if this program would work with my schedule at this time in my life. She stated that there was no one that could answer my questions over the phone. I had to make an appointment and come in for them to give me any information. She also wasnt very friendly on the phone which really gave me a bad impression of this school. That this school really doesnt care if you attend or not. I will be looking at other schools and programs perhaps some that are more customer service.

I took a Medical Assistant class here at the campus in downtown Reno in 2015. I have been unable to secure employment because my certification is from NHA and not CCMA. I wasted my time and money becoming certified at this college. This will not be the last time this college here's from me. What a terrible injustice to the other folks who are going through the same thing. I fully intend to make this school responsible and accountable for this fact. It is greivously unfair and incomprahensible that taking a class in a program that is designed to bring employment to individuals who suited up n showed up for this training, to not even been told that this may happen. Truckee Meadows Community College misrepresented their school when they trained people for a vocation that potentially they could not use in any way to provide economic security. I will hold you responsible. Thank you for absolutely lying to your students, and misguiding them into a false belief that after training g in this area, they would be accepted Nationally, or at least in the neighboring State of California. Our class teacher Lavonne Black, also miss lead her students. This is the worst mistake of my life. No thanks to this entity and the so called professionals that run it. Thanks for absolutely nothing. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Good day..

Very helpful and responsive staff! I was very pleasantly suprised when Amanda from the Financial Aid office called to give me a heads up on some incomplete paperwork. I'm incredibly grateful and relieved.

This is a tremendous school with a caring and compassionate staff and faculty. This school has afforded me so many opportunities that I wouldn't have otherwise received without them. When I got to Reno, I was homeless. I arrived with two suitcases and less than $100 in the bank. I was staying with a friend and making very little money. I found myself in a situation where I worked hard labor job after hard labor job, trapped in a vicious cycle of injury and poverty and no clear view of how to exit my situation. In the month of December 2014, I walked into the offices at TMCC. In less than a year, I have found employment, I'm less than a year from finishing my degree and I am a Dean's list student. I had it in my head that I wanted to succeed and I was fortunate that this school wanted to help me to do exactly that. The teachers were compassionate and patient. The staff was courteous and helpful. I owe a great deal to this school because it has taught me more than academics. It taught me to be a better person.
