This school does not care about your education. They just care about making money. They hire extremely liberal teachers who teach only what fits their agenda. They charge you for literally everything. There was a small stain on a dining room table and they charged us 120 dollars to "fix" it. Overall just dont waste your time and a lot of money trying to go to this school. The lme year I spent here was the worst year of my life. So dont make my mistake

The staff and environment is usually pretty good. However, there is a strong politically biased undertone with most professors and the general population. Also, the parking is absolutely disgraceful. Don't pay for the $300 parking permit.... you will never find a spot and when your inevitably late for class, your professor will tell you to come earlier. Even though you drove through 5 lots for 20 minutes. Absolute money grab. Update: Recent discovery that even if you purchased their joke of a parking permit, if somehow the sticker falls off your windshield you will still get a ticket and be expected to pay it even with proof of a permit. Pathetic. Bumped down to one star from two.

My worst mistake was to come to Minnesota, Duluth. Don't waste your time and money here. I regret coming here.

This place is the worst goddamn school in the state, maybe the planet

I am going to grad school in UMD. This University will be a dear one to me. I am doing my masters in Computer science and the department is at it's best. The International Student Services(ISS) is very helpful and give you the right guidance. I am happy to go to this University coming from a different country, I felt so welcomed here. Thank you!

Good value for the money, great school for a diverse variety of outdoor activities. Beautiful running/hiking trails walking distance from school (used to walk to school through Chester Creek), kayaking, skiing (Spirit Mt about 15 minutes away, can ski between class if you want and you have the hill/park to yourself), not to mention some of the best swimming holes you've ever been to (during a short season). With the city being built on a large hill, you can get really good at longboarding too. Great views, but if you've been to Duluth you already know all this. Considerations: -When it comes to late night food delivery, there are few options. When it comes to late night dining near campus, there are almost 0. -If your college experience must consist of tailgating and getting hammered for a big football game, don't go to UMD. You can do that for the hockey games (minus tailgating, there's free buses that go from campus to the arena though), and you have all day to be productive beforehand. -If you're not ready to move away from home/friends and meet new people, don't go to UMD.... -It can get cold.. It's a small school, you're not going to run into a lot of alums everywhere you go later in life, but you can leave with a degree and ample experience in outdoor activities. Same thing I'll say to anybody considering going to college--if you have a plan, go for it. If you don't know what you're trying to become in life, then maybe you're not ready for school. At least if you go to UMD, assuming you're an in-state resident, you're not going to be as broke if you don't make it all the way through. Duluth is a relatively cheap city to live in.

Lovely for a town run by anal police officers. College is surrounded by almost nothing and is even farther from anything desirable. Also is always windy and cold. One star.

Great academics, great environment. Plenty to do in Duluth.

Disappointed to say this is my alma mater. It has become a hive of scum and villainy.

Small enough to feel like a community, big enough to offer tons of unique and quality opportunities to students. Most faculty really care about their students and the success of their graduates; that focus is part of the institution's culture (versus an emphasis on research first, second, and third for faculty). Getting to attend University in one of America's best college towns and outdoor cities doesn't hurt either. An overlooked and underestimated institution.

Michael Dahmen

Honorable place!

Be careful driving here in the winter. Especially at night, there are certain roads that freeze with a lot of packed down snow on the side streets and's hard to see pedestrians when they dress in black coats.

Worst decision I ever made

I really enjoyed my experience here overall. I graduated in the spring of 2017. Although there are some noticeable issues with the multiple charges to your account and a major parking problem, I feel the instructors I had the overall education I received made up for it. It's not a perfect school, but I would recommend it overall. In addition to enjoying campus life at UMD, you can also enjoy the beauty of Duluth.

Really not a great school, they overspend on and cherish certain department, while completely screwing over others. The administration as a whole seems like a joke, and most of the places I've gone to get help on stuff have generally just made it worse. Poor class choices and layout, I had to go a whole extra school year because of this, not being able to get into classes I needed, or simply because my conselor didn't let me know I needed to take certain steps to be able to graduate, I have two classes I really need to take left. But it is required I take them in seperate semesters, so here I am paying another full year for something I should be able to do in one, or if it was a functional system I would have known about it way before now.. Go bulldogs

Just toured the campus with my daughter and immediately fell in love. It's a smaller campus so it has more of that hometown feel to it. I wish I could go back to college, just to attend UMD!

Horrible. You're left to fend for yourself when financial services and general support won't make an attempt to help. I felt like they only wanted my money and didn't care if I was successful.

The slides on "Why is everyone afraid of sex?" were good, however, there were a few mispelled words that more than likely need changing. I only point this out because I am a journalism student at the University of Memphis and I am very anal about spelling. No hard feelings. Thank you.

Tristan Bombardieri

The campus is amazing and modern. There is a variety of shops that are all amazing and sell things for reasonable prices

Patty Crabbe

Advisors refuse to help students, school is terrible with no diverse choice of classes

As a student of UMD, I think its a perfectly fine college. The community is great, everything is close to each other, and the classes are good. It's really hard to be super descriptive because everyone will have different teachers, which dorm they live in, and friend group, and all of those will effect how you feel about UMD. Overall I think its a great pick in a great city!

Do not go here for art, they do not hone your skills but simply give you assignments and grade how well you do. Too heavy on the art theory, which is good, but not the only thing wgen it comes to art. The advisors failed to guide me and explain the 4 year layout as well and I graduated with a lesser degree because of that. FIND A DIFFERENT UNIVERSITY FOR ART.

Nimer Jaber

The campus is very inclusive and very well laid out. Professors are great. The accommodations for individuals with disabilities are wonderful.

Graduated 7 years ago, and still cherish my time at UMD, as do all of my alumni-friends.

Be very careful when choosing to go to this school. They employ jack-boot police thugs to trample on your rights.
