ECC is an ok school if your not planning on specializing on anything that requires math or science. They have an excellent English and arts departments, and the campus is very clean and well maintained, however their math and science departments are incredible disappointing. At best, only half of my math and science instructors spoke English as a first language, they range from accents which I could usually work through to instructors who would pause class because they couldn't come up with the word they were thinking of in English. It's incredible disruptive and makes already challenging classes much harder then they need be. I would recommend ECC to people looking to get their English classes out of the way, or to makeup classes they may not have done well in in high school before transferring to a 4 year university. They're much cheaper than a 4 year, they put more attention into their English classes then a 4 year will, and most of the first year classes you would otherwise have taken at a 4 year university are almost guaranteed to transfer over.

ECC works for me. That was the slogan when I attended. I had to suspend my pursuit of a degree, but I do intend to go back to Ecc when I start to complete my education. If you attend college, stay away from the federal loans.

Haven't used the college for school. The arts center is great with 2 theaters for shows. I have seen some of the best shows in my life in small venues like this.

If your military and your trying to receive credits for your time in service (JST) for whatever job you did in the military .. They will NOT give you credits for any job you did in the military ... I was a vehicle mechanic in the army and I applied for an automobile service degree here and they gave me no credits for what I did in the service ...they said I would have to take each class over again or pay for each CLEP test .. I would refer any prior military to apply to colleges near base .. Those colleges will give you credits on stuff you already learned ...

If ur a disabled vet, like I am at 60%, make sure u have ALL paper work on Dept of VA letterhead or ur special needs like taking tests and the like will not be taken care of. Otherwise ECC Staff is friendly and understanding to ur physical needs. Disability Services - FAIR ECC Staff - VERY GOOD (in comparison to Academic professors/instructors @Harper 3/5 had there head up there as & need their ego stroked @Harper) Overall - GOOD

I had the hardest time coordinating with the staff to set up a booth at the campus. Each department would send me to another one in an endless loop. After a few steps we got to the correct department but even still. When I got there they didn't know anything about the process. We were given a form to fill out to get the process started. On the form there were several confusing points that talked about a mandatory $1,000,000 of liability insurance that we needed to provide prior to our campus visit. The form also referenced several points of a campus policy document. They couldn't answer any question I had about the insurance requirements or provide a copy of the campus policy document. Even now, once we finally were able to submit the document, we still haven't heard back. They assured us they would approve or reject our application within a week but now, 3 weeks later we have yet to hear back.

I can't wait to go to college at ECC next year and also I loved the campus tour with my transition coordinator from school. Things that I loved was seeing the cafeteria and learning what I might do here is the connections program and it should be really good to learn for me being an adult in the community.

Some professors are great, others are past their prime. The advisors are a joke. Coming in as a transfer student, I knew more than most. The advisors are useless and will try to convince you to take classes YOU DO NOT NEED. My advice, follow the progress bar online and finish that way. Also, if you are transferring, that university advisor should give you classes that will be worth merit at that institution. It's a decent stepping stone in higher education, but the administration sucks.

Elgin Community College is one of the best colleges I've been to. They have excellent professors, great activities and entertainment, and great food! The library is over the top amazing. There are many tables and chairs to have a place to study. The study rooms around campus are AWESOME ! There's a fresh salad bar and it's affordable! It's a beautiful campus. Dr. Sam, the president, is very friendly and involved. The teachers there want to see you succeed! I miss going there. I can't wait to go back to continue my education!!!

I will start with the good. The instructors are amazing. Most of them that I have had are very intelligent and filled with the necessary knowledge to teach you. Now the bad. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE COUNSELORS!!!! Figure out what classes you need to take on your own. I spent 3.5 years there with a combination of full and part time and have no degree and no requirements for any programs that I told them I was most interested in. When I was a vulnerable 17 year old first generation college student there completely on my own they told me I needed to take reading for Nursing. For one, looking back, I placed out of reading. For two, I have yet to come across a nursing program that requires reading. It seems that they always gave me the run around and had me taking all of the classes that I did not need, and none of the classes that I did need. If you can figure out what classes you need to take on your own, then The school if great, and the education that you receive is great. If you have nobody to help you or guide you in your life and are solely dependent on the counselors advise, find an alternative.

I have been going part time for 3 years and I love this school. I went to College of Dupage for a few years before Elgin college and my experience here has been way better. The staff are all nice and helpful and you get that home feeling at this College.

Testing services are awful, not nearly enough people working in there to get everyone in there. Waited outside in the hall for over an hour. Admissions, counseling and testing services need to be on the same page. I was told 3 times I didn’t need to take a writing placement test then I call to get my new student orientation day and they tell me I need to take it now. Why was this not told to me earlier?

Professors and library staff are great. Testing placement staff, and book store staff are awful. Today I called because I have to retake a math placement test, and asked if I could take it online instead of having to come in, since I work full-time and have a busy schedule. The lady assisting me laughed for about a good 2 minutes and replied, “you have to come in nice try though”. Not very good service for someone who was genuinely asking, could have just replied with a simple no! These department staff are so rude and seem annoyed when you ask them questions, I’ve never had a good experience with either, and dread having to deal with them.

Let me start by stating that the instructors at ECC, for the most part, are fantastic. This is, unfortunately, not enough to balance the poor departmental structure. There is a large diffusion of responsibility in many aspects at this institution and little-to-no accountability in these departments, as well. The book store has an awful return policy, the financial aid office will not return your call in a timely manner and the academic advisors are of very little help in regards to curriculum planning and transferring of academic materials. If the administration and its subsidiaries functioned as well as the professors here then this would be a 5 star academic institution by all means. Please stop running this school like a business, referring to students as "customers," and initiate accountability for your departments and return this college to its altruistic roots. Thank you.
