Parking authority is terrible. They wait at the meter to write you a ticket. They hold your letter when you mail your appeal and tell you, " Since the 10 day deadline for appealing the citation has passed, the only option is to pay the citation." Also, they spend little time getting teachers with real world experience. They spend most their time trying to bad guns and tobacco rather than doing their real jobs. Enrollment is down every year. It dropped 3% this year.

As an Alum I will say that my experience within my department was good, but dealing with the University is horrible. Students are not placed first here, it is all about the money, and while this may be true across the board for higher education U of Idaho left a sour taste.

Registered offender here. But thats another story. I wont bother you with that right now. Let me tell you why this is a great place to go to school. Not only do you get all them educations, but you get all them kitties :) I got a certificate in bodily drawing. Was the best call I ever taked. Get me all the skills I need for my projects at home. And in other people's homes. Sometimes you get a "free" cookie. Edit: not sure why the first draft got flagged. Removed some extraneous details.

This is a fantastic university. My mother and father went here and got there degrees. My grandfather was a professor there. I also went there at one time. This university is the lifeblood of the area and has not only added value for my family, but many others as well. This is also one of the less expensive universities you can go to.

Many programs to choose to study. Many historical buildings in the campus. The best university in Idaho State. 10 minutes driving to Washington State University. Administration staffs and professors are pretty nice and friendly. Palouse Mall is just located across street. Many small shops and dinning options nearby. Parking lots available, but not free.

U of I is very reasonably priced, and somehow still offers top of the line resources. I did not realise how lucky I was until I pursued a Master's degree from another institution. The cadaver lab truly set the Biology department apart, while the beautiful arboretum, library, rec center and computer labs do a lot to improve student quality of life. I would highly recommend this school.

Pros: non-pretentious student body, beautiful location, smart professors, thoughtful career advisers. Cons: Idaho doesn't give its universities enough money, so facilities are a little outdated and professors are forced to make the best of a small budget. Generally speaking, the university could really benefit from a little extra money.

I am a current student here and have a few things to say. The majority of the lower levels of the administration does not care about the students from what i have seen. I have seen my peers have multiple problems that they have complained about and had meetings with faculty for and nothing got done until the student had to solve it them selves in ways they should not have had to. They faculty doesnt seem to care. Food is pretty terrible. And it just isnt the best place to go to school. Everything is over priced as well. There are some food professors and TA's. However this school has hired some professors and TA's that can barely speak english. One of my professors spoke such badly broken english that i had to learn everything online. And the school is very involved in the worlds culture and has a lot of student from foreign nations, that can be a good thing. But when my education suffers because the students that are peer grading my papers cant write or speak proper english that is a problem to me. Again, this is just my experience. You may love it here. But i and my friends do not. Greek community is cool tho

I attended school here from 2011 until graduating in 2016. My departments and professors/instructors within (Microbiology, Molecular Biology & Biotechnology, German) were excellent. The university as a whole, is not. The main problem with the UI is the administration, not the professors. My freshman dorm experience in Wallace was HORRID. Two, decades old rooms were joined together with 2 people in each room, all 4 of whom had to share a bathroom that was in one of the rooms and not the other. The rooms were disgusting and had chunks taken out of the cork-board that lines the outside of the cabinets. Not to mention they force freshmen to stay on campus and charged nearly $6k a year and $2k/semester for a meal plan (you are forced to buy it, no choice). These dorms were no joke designed by a guy who designed prisons. I moved off-campus as soon as possible. The new-ish President of the University, Chuck Staben, who I have not heard one good thing about from anyone, decided he would "re-implement" the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) program to boost out-of-state enrollment since they stopped giving new scholarships to non-Idaho students (there are a lot of us) for a few years. "Step in the right direction" I thought, except I found out that he only extended this program to Washington and Oregon students. The WUE program is comprised of not just Idaho, Oregon and Washington, but also Alaska, Wyoming and Montana. So no, President Staben, you didn't "re-implement" anything. I have heard nothing but distaste and animosity from numerous PROFESSORS, of all people, as to why they all dislike him and think he's arrogant and difficult to work with. Even had a similar experience. Get this - in my fiance's final year while struggling with financial aid, President Staben literally told him that it was his job as an out-of-state student to subsidize the education of in-state students and that he wouldn't be helping him obtain any aid other than loans. This was the first time my fiance ever asked for any help from the university financially, as he paid out-of-state sticker price every year in full with money he made as a commercial fisherman (UI refused to give him the out-of-state grant they offer for 4 years even though he had a 3.5 in high school and great SAT, and refused to honor it when we brought it up again). I was there for this conversation and I couldn't believe what kind of garbage was being spewed from this President's mouth. The last President we had was so kind and helpful, especially in comparison to this guy. My own graduation in December made me feel like a hostage - the ceremony was unnecessarily long because every other person who spoke was forced to remind the graduates to "donate donate donate to your university now that you've graduated". They even made the poor sophomore class president tell us to donate for the final time, which you could tell made him incredibly uncomfortable. Multiple families I spoke with who came into town for graduation commented on how disrespectful the ceremony was toward the graduates. Just appalling. Overall, the only reason I stayed at this university is because of my specific department being chocked full of NIH grant-obtaining professors and an excellent learning environment. I don't know how the UI is able to retain such brilliant people but it does in the College of Science. To sum things up, if you are an out-of-state student with few scholarships and you want to pursue a field of study other than those in the Colleges of Science or Engineering, listen to me when I say: this school is a giant waste of money at $20k/ year. Even graduating from one of those colleges, I never would've paid that kind of money for an undergraduate education. When I enrolled they cared about students from states like Alaska and eventually waived my out-of-state tuition. You can kiss good treatment of students (and teachers) goodbye under the new administration. It really is sad that the administration is so awful here because my experience in the classroom was fantastic.

U of Idaho is located in the small town. You might not expect too much from there. I heard that most students go out for hiking, fishiing and etc. :

After paying off my federal student loans-the college, who forgot to send back one loan after I withdrew (which is what colleges are required to do) Took the money, then charged me for it. The school failed to provide proof I owed the debt. They basically stole 4,000 from federal government then made me pick up the tab. The college is irresponsible with record keeping and finances, young kids are most vulnerable, the school can tack on charges without providing proof. There’s no accountability. I would not recommend the school, they steal money from students.

University administers and officials are letting other departments willing break state laws. For example. Idaho RCW 49-229. the parking and transportarion department have knowingly and maliciously committed crimes but everyone looks the other way while they steal from students .

UofI is a beautiful campus and has a handful of great professors. I lived in a sorority and all the rules were a bit much for me...The snow is a drag walking around and slipping on ice. Do they have heated sidewalks yet? That would be a game changer... overall, fun times but froze my ass off a bit.

Great place! So glad I came here! The courses have really prepared me for medical school and there is so much to do on campus regardless of what your interests are. The best part is it is so affordable!

Amazing school with amazing people. I really enjoyed the five years I spent here. The school caters to Law, Agriculture and Sciences mostly. It has really good pricing and sees many out of state students because of this. If your unsure of what school to go to or do not know what you want to do I recommend going here to figure things out as you will have a blast while learning some fascinating material. The school sits only 1/4 mile from downtown Moscow which is a great place to grab a bite to eat or visit the local bike shops. It is also only a 30 minute drive from Moscow Mountain which has great mountain biking and hiking trails. The University of Idaho is a hidden gem. Don't pass it up if given the opportunity to attend.

The University of Idaho is the perfect combination of academics and fun. It's the best true college experience in Idaho. If you're looking for a school with a great football program this isn't it, but everything else you want in a college is here. Go Vandals!

As an international student, I met a lot of friendly friends here. At first I thought Moscow just a city of nowhere, as more exploration I did in this lovely town, I just fell in love at here more. A really good city to experience different face of united states.

Only one teacher that teaches any class. So, if you have a horrible teacher, which happens often, you cant take that same class with a better professor. Some of their teachers have no soul or life experience, so its dry text book reading and they make $100,000 a year, because they manipulate the system they have. some teachers are too eager to make students write the reviews at the end of the semester. Parking is also terrible. They ticket you constantly and deny every appeal and make it too complicated to fight, so its best to title your cars under a corporate shell so they can't find you, or they will steal the money out of your student account without asking. I will not donate a penny to this university. I am sick of it!

If you are resident of Idaho and this School is the only place that you can go, then you don't have much of an options. But if you have other choice you should definitely not pick up University of Idaho. There are very few good faculties, and most of the professors in general are not really good at teaching and you will find many professors with very heavy foreign accent which makes it hard to understand.

My experience at U of I was horrible, I had an awful roommate who was involved in illegal activity and was just a mean person to everyone, there were many things she did that should have gotten her kicked out but after months of me talking to the housing department nothing was done and I had to move. The staff does not do anything to support the students or help make your experience better. Every person I have talked to that went disliked it. I actually left the school because of the numerous issues I had.

Jeremy Andrews

They passes a smoking ban with the approval of 27% of the students. What they teach you here is not how the real world works. It has a strong female bias. They cant teach, so they pass rules and laws that no one wants and men agree simply because they are Momma boys. Registration has been down every year since they tried this. They wont let you live off campus if your a first year. They want to hold your hand all the time and not in an attractive way. You obviously cant take care of yourself if you choose to come here.

Awful university. Been attending for four years and am lucky to be finishing in December. They try to limit and control what the students can and can not do it is like a prison. They ruined Greek row and the social aspect of it. Every year gets worse. Not to mention they raise tuition every year and just paid 2 million for president house. Is it really that necessary?. Parking situation is also awful. The parking and transportation department is awful. They give tickets for everything. This university tries to suck and take the money out of their students. Just plain awful.

I will say this. I love the Standford educated teachers, Infact I think they should hire more teachers from the top 10 schools in the country. My advice to you than is to look at the top 10 schools in your field of interest and go to the least expensive one. This school has a lot of teachers fresh off the boat with no work experience and I dont see them as proper models for a person trying to break into an industry. A lot of misguided social justice warriors here too. Lots of them think that if they left the university and worked for corporate they would make over $100,000, but really they are paid more than they are worth and I don't think many of them would survive a corporate environment. Many teachers are not conservative about the science they teach. Math is taught by a computer and it makes that experience inorganic and hard. Space X had a presentation for us here, but said they would not hire anyone that went to U of Idaho. They only look to the 10 best schools in the country. The statistics you get off this school is spun with an agenda, and its feminist propagandized professors and managers have taken over, so they do things without due process or without thoughy and it's why I feel this school presents a moral hazard. That is how they banned tobacco in all forms here. There was an upset, but the women in charge said public opinion on the issue didn't matter, so enrollment has fallen 3%+ because of the tobacco ban. So don't go here if you smoke or vape. They are not in a position to do anything that would harm enrollment, but since they can't afford to hire the best, so you get people like Tracy Craig who can rise far past their real value and into positions they can manipulate and abuse and write text books in social science that they teach with no other school will ever take seriously and you are required to pau $6,000 or more a year for this treatment. Its not a good value of your time and money. By advice to the community thaylt supports this is to step up. Get rid of garbage that is below the standard of any of the ivy league schools and don't let substandard academic want to bes' ruin this schools reputation.
