Dirty Bird

Not helpful in anyway. I had a "professor" for my CGS class who did not know a single thing about what he was teaching. None of the office faculty even knew who he was. So I had to drop the class and waste 300 bucks. The teachers are not very helpful in general. My math teacher does not even use Blackboard and I cannot even contact him. I went to the math emporium to get help and there was only one tutor there in a room full of students. The tutor was very bland in her explanation of how to do the problem, so I ended up just going home. In my English class, I feel I have not learned anything. If I ask a question through Blackboard, the answer is vague. "Check MLA format" that doesn't answer my question of how I am supposed to fix the problem. The only good class I have is my art class. Other than that, I have absolutely nothing good to say about this school.

The classes and professors are alright.. I transferred here from another community college and I’m not happy with Lake Sumter staff. For over a year now I’ve been asking for my degree and yet still have no paper... yet they’ve told me multiple times they were working on it. Doesn’t take over a year to send a paper that I spent a bunch of money on.

I really enjoy attending Lake-Sumter State College. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, moreover, the staff and professors are helpful in many ways! It is a GREAT college, and I would recommend LSSC to anyone and everyone I know!

Lazy Professors. Almost no classes available when you need them. Financial aid is beyond incompetent. This school claims to be available in Sumter County. IT'S IN THE NAME! There are almost no classes available in Sumter. There is no tutoring in Sumter. There is no testing in Sumter. This is the worst, most awfully managed, poorly staffed places of "higher education"(I use this term very loosely) that I have ever had the displeasure to work with.

Overall great experience so far but if u need to use a computer there I recommend the library because the ones in some classrooms are so slow u think they were used to running windows 95

I love the small class sizes, and the nature preserve. Everyone there is friendly, and there is a lot of student activities and outreach programs. It's a great learning environment.

I have been going to this school for over a year now and I enjoy going here. The classes are small which I enjoy. I went to Valencia College years ago and I would go here over Valencia any day. All the instructors I have had so far express their care for students and teaching.

Really wish there was a zero-star option (Leesburg campus). Do not go here... The front desk personnel at student services are rude as can be. Ive never felt more discouraged to join a college. Professionalism from the student services personnel is non-existent. Go to Valencia, over there you can at least feel like they want you to study with them.

This is probably the worst school I’ve been to. The admissions office has no clue what they are doing and the only person who knows is Caitlin Moore, who is very rude. If you don’t pay for one class on ONE of the deadline for a semester for later, you get dropped from ALL the classes, including the ones that were paid for. The classes available are all during the same times and most are for the South Lake campus. There are often many problems with the emails and contact information, which they won’t help you change and won’t look at until you finally go up there and throw a fit. There are also many threats and fights at the school. Definitely would not recommend unless you’re desperate.

Nothing good to say about this college. Had a CGS teacher who wasn't even a teacher and no one in the office building even knew who he was yet there he was trying to teach a class so I had to withdraw out of the class and waste 300 dollars because no one in the class was learning anything. Yay I am not sure if there is a single teacher or professor in the entire school.

They have the best idea to mix college with high school. I got my early childhood education and development degree through this school, but all while I stayed in high school, and taught preschool for my four years at SSHS. Brilliant school.

Horrible college! They need to remove Sumter from the name they offer only classes for your first semester. The system uses for homework for math requires the math teaches to do nothing and of the classes taken so far they are getting paid to sit on there phone. As a student that never had anything lower than a B it is sure the educator is the problem. When approached with complaints you are told to write a letter to the bord of directors how ever a director is who i was speaking to. If you feel the need to blow money i can't find a better place to wast it then at this college. So far i have got more information from Google than any of these supposed educator who can't speak load enough to hear across the room. If this was any other business i would request a refund for lack of service however they take your money and shove it in to the front lawn and pond not adding to the useless Sumter school.

Melissa in the Academic Advising office (Leesburg Campus) deserves a raise. This woman walked me through and helped me with every part of the registration process. I’ve been to academic advising before and have never been helped like that. I couldn’t be more thankful for her and the help she provided me.

The most unhelpful staff I have ever experienced. Every time I have to call no one answers and I do not get a call back for three to four days (or not at all). I once called four days in a row and when I got a call back the call was disconnected and the lady didn't call me back, so I had to start over with leaving voicemails again. I am currently trying to get my transcripts to transfer to another school and have called three days in a row so far and left messages every time. The financial aid department (leesburg campus) is not any better, the man I spoke to about an issue I had, had no idea what was going on. I went to the chasier and asked and she told me what I needed to know immediately; she then proceeded to bring the man out and talk to him and he basically called me a liar and said I wasn't listening to him. Everything about lake Sumter makes me want to cry. I have nothing positive to say about any of the staff I have ever encountered and this is the only reason I am changing schools.

Nice sized classes, 50/50 on the professors. Amber Karlins though is the absolute greatest professor ever. If you need to take english classes, such as Comp 1 and 2, Creative Writing, etc, look for Amber Karlins, great professor very helpful.

This college wants people with emotional disabilities (like me) to fail! I don't understand why I have to make an IEP appointment, when they clearly stated to my mother that my high school's IEP would be transferred. Then I needed to talk to someone to get something off my chest. They said that I can VISIT AN OFF-SITE COUNSELOR. They didnt have one on-site. Also, I can only visit said counselor 5 TIMES. Then, I had about 3 instances where I felt this will amount to nothing. The first two times, they somehow convinced me that it will. 3rd time comes, & I'm considered a nuisance to the school. They suspend me. Overall, NEVER attend this school unless you're absolutely PERFECT in every aspect of your life.

I've had a great time at this school; as someone with a limited budget, this school was perfect for helping me achieve my goals of becoming an Environmental Scientist as well as an Engineer. Research your teachers, and engage in the wonderful student life that the students and faculty of this school work so hard to provide!
