You will see the opinions of real people who consume the services of Nicholas Coffee & Tea Co. (Coffee Shop) in West Virginia area.
Nowadays this firm gets a score of 4.3 stars out of 5 and the score has been based on 106 reviews.
You must have seen that the average of ratings is quite positive, and it is based on a very large number of reviews, so we can think that the evaluation is quite credible. If many people have bothered to leave their opinion when they've done well, is that it works.
You know that we do not usually stop to give evaluations when they are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Coffee Shop corresponds to the category of Coffee store.
Good freshly prepared coffee as well as an awesome collection of teas and coffees that you can buy for use at home.
Good coffee; great place to stop if you need a change from the chain coffee shops
Food was so delicious.
Huge selection friendly staff
Best coffee and atmosphere you could hope for.
Great coffee and tea selection. Closed now but reopening this fall.
Place is great. A rare gem. Staff is the best part.
A fantastic selection of freshly roasted coffee in whole bean or ground. They have just about every flavor you can think of. Additionally, they have a huge selection of teas, drinks and snacks from around the world, all at very reasonable prices. The only downfall of the place is their readily prepared items such as brewed coffee and fresh snacks as the brewed coffee is very watered down. The line can also get a bit long and there is no interior seating for when you're just looking for a short break.
Cashier was rude rushing us with so much to choose from, then sit our change on counter, instead of respectfully giving back to us in our hands as I gave it to her.
Excellent Teas and Coffee with Cigars on the side
What a large selection of flavored, regular, and decaf coffee! Not to mention the tea. I like getting the small pre-packaged bags of ground flavored coffee to sample or gift. I think the smallest increment you can buy loose beans is a half pound. When it comes to tea I think they will let you do quarter pounds. You can ask for a tea list when trying to decide or getting a whif from the container is also helpful. When I went there were discounted candy bars under the counter. It would take a long time to try all of the coffee flavors here. But I remember loving the creme brulee. I went around lunch time and it wasn't super busy here. But with all these options sitting behind the counter I imagine it could get a little crazy at times
Very low taste decaf coffee and bad customer service. Too bad because the store is beautiful with wide selection of coffee beans and accessories. Props for selling Italian coffee makers and manual grinders.
Most delicious coffee I have ever had. Everyone that works there is super nice.
Not really open per hours posted! We stopped in @ 5:15 and they had no coffee. It's in the name and you should serve it until you close! Won't go back where they are this lazy.
Haley was the Best we had evening coffee right before they closed our first night in town Came back next morning for best coffee downtown Pittsburgh and her customer service skills are amazing recommended another local food establishment with amazing food also Will be back for sure BEST COFFEE DOWNTOWN PITTSBURGH
Good quality coffee and a huge variety of flavors
The building is old and quaint. This place has been around a long time. Good coffee roasted on site. They also sell roasted peanuts and other treats.
Best coffee downtown. Plus, you won't have to wait in line for 30 minutes like you would at the Starbucks across the street. Go get some coffee from Nicholas'
In Pittsburgh last weekend for a wedding and stopped in here. Purchased a couple varieties coffee. They were very helpful and the coffee was great. My wife also purchased some tea, which too was great.
I got a mix of Kona Blend and French Roast at a local super market who sold Nicholas Coffee in whole bean.. I don't know what they do but it was the most delicious cup I have ever had. Wicked good! And sorry James, but to judge a business on one bad experience with an employee, who could be fired by now, is pretty dumb.. No wonder they seemed rude.
Great fresh roasted coffee, reasonably priced. Staff sometimes is rude.
This is a unique review in that I have never actually been to the store. I ordered green coffee beans via their website as I have recently become interested in roasting beans. The website ordering platform was easy to use. However, because of my impatience I called two days after placing my order to receive an order status.
Nicholas coffee has been here for like a hundred years... historic shop
First time here in the city and wanted coffee. Not Starbucks but actual coffee. This place is unreal and to learn the ship anywhere in the country!!! Bought some coffee and bags to take back home with me. Go in and order, you won’t be disappointed
I have been a customer of the coffee beans/roasts here for a number of years and will not consider going anywhere else for coffee beans. Their roasts contain no bitter after taste as some of the more prevalent coffee purveyors. The customer service that I have experienced has been exemplary both in the store, on-line, and by phone. While I was in Iraq, I wanted beans shipped to our APO (Army Post Office) box, which most businesses did not accommodate. I called the store and explained the situation and the woman that I talked to packed the bags of beans, boxed them, and took them to the post office herself to be able to ship them to me! She did this for me on a number of occasions, as well as others who served alongside me that were still in Iraq after I left and had introduced them to Nicholas' great coffee beans. It is disappointing to see such critical reviews for some seemingly small infractions by their employees and availability of freshly brewed coffee near closing time.
Large selection of unique coffees, teas, and chocolates, etc to go with it. Smells wonderful inside!
Forget their competitors across the way. This is by far the best place to get coffee. From the moment you walk in you know. The aroma just tells you there's something good in there, an instant euphoria from the smell of fresh coffee........... Oh yes!
The best coffee in Pittsburgh, hands down! Fresh roasted on site and ground to order. Or, buy the beans and grind them yourself! Huge selection of flavors, plus they sell all the paraphernalia and also chocolate and tea! Also, cigars! The smell, alone, is worth a visit. Go check it out!
A hard pass on this place. Expected much more. If you are limited to the area around Nicholas Coffee, as much as it pains me to say, go to Starbucks. For a quality cup of coffee head on over to La Prima Espresso.
My favorite place to buy tea and coffee.
Excellent coffee in Market Square. My favorite coffee from Nicholas is probably the Northern Italian or the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. This place has some real character and they have been there since 1919.
Huge selection of fresh tea leaves and coffee beans.
Fantastic local roaster...try the Jump Jivin' Java!!
The coffees are delicious! Make sure to take some home with you!!
You gotta love Nicholas. It is a Pittsburgh institution. Before Starbucks and Teavana, before the proliferation of twee little cafes everywhere, Nicholas provided. Still, it is a great place to find obscure teas and brewing devices. Skip the pre-flavored coffees, as well as artificially fruity teas, and go for natural leaves and unadulterated beans. Someone must feel differently about that, though, because they have quite a selection of both. Still, when I really just need a pound or two of simple, china green or oolong, Nicholas has quality and bulk quantity at a reasonable price.
I love this shop! Always go in when Downtown. This place is a gem. The daily specialty coffee is always great.
This place made me give up on buying coffee from a grocery store. I stop in for a pound every week or two now.
My favorite place to get coffee in Pittsburgh. You have to check it out. Might get some of their coffee delivered to my house in Cleveland. It's that good.
I love their coffee, especially the Guatemalan. Their prices are affordable and it's well worth it. They are doing some remodeling now, but are open during it. My only issue is that their customer service seems to be priority 2 or 3. They tend to talk across the counter to each other and let you stand there waiting for them to acknowledge you. There are a couple employees that seem to do their jobs on point though. I love when I see them working the counter.
Nicholas Coffee is an excellent coffee shop selling a wide variety of fresh roasted coffee and teas as well as other related items. Their coffee and tea selection is probably the best in the city. The staff is courteous and friendly, although at peak times, they can be quite busy as they not only have to wait on customers, but also have to prepare bulk orders to be shipped to restaurants and other retail outlets. In addition to their fresh roasted coffee beans, I highly recommend their coffee bar. It isn't fancy and doesn't offer the range of drinks that you can get at some chain coffee shops, but the price and quality can't be beat.
Made a trip downtown to check this place out. Since they close at 530 on weekdays (and earlier on weekends) we had to go down early. Arrived at 5:05pm on a weekday and were told even though they are open until 5:30 they stop making coffee at 5:00. What's the point of being open if you aren't selling anything?!?
Great cookies too! Creme brûlée was amazing
Great Ethiopian brew today.
Nicholas Coffee is THE BEST coffee roasters in town. The have a huge selection of coffee roasted on site and the best imported and custom tea blends, possibly in the world
Super cool, old coffee shop and brand name. No indoor seating.
Excellent selection of fresh roasted coffee. Runs regular specials and lots of organic and free trade offerings. Was excited to visit Pgh again to get stocked up from Nicholas but bummed to see that it looks like they are closed for renovations! Ill check back next time I'm in town
Excellent and classic local coffee institution. Can't go wrong with Nicholas whether it is on-demand cups, fresh roasted beans, or other coffee accouterments.
Great coffee, tea, sweets, cigars, and peanuts.
I purchased a French press for my wife here, she didn't like it so I returned it today. The clerk who sold me the French press told me to "Have your wife try it out, if she doesn't like it bring it back with the receipt.". I'm 56 years old and have been shopping at Nicholas' for years. The clerk who waited on me today was very rude and very combative and refused to accept my return. When I pointed out what the selling employee told me, she said she had to call "upstairs". A few minutes later she came back and told me that they would accept the return "THIS TIME" (as if I would buy one every week, use it and try to return it.). I had my frequent buyers card in my hand, planning to purchase some coffee for my wife and loose tea for myself, but due to the hostility the employee showed I changed my mind and laid the card on the counter and told the employee, very politely, "I don't think I'll be shopping here anymore, she said, "That's fine". If not for this I would have probably gone back after a time, I loved the place - browsing the selection of teas and coffees, but her cavalier and hostile attitude pretty much sealed the deal. I've rarely been more disappointed with poor customer service than I was today.
Nice environment. Locally roasted in house. Inexpensive and good quality
If you're near Market Square and need a coffee, and you pick Starbucks or anything other than Nicholas, you might as well go buy a Baker Mayfield Jersey, because your Yinzer pass is getting revoked. Seriously, this place is the best. In house roasting, and the best coffeeshop staff ever. A must-try!
Love this coffee but the girl that ground the beans was the rudest person I’ve ever encountered. Hostile for no reason. Slammed the beans on the counter. Couldn’t wait to get out of there!! What a shame since the coffee flavors are great.
Huge selection of coffee whole bean or ground according to the type of coffee maker you have. Love the butter pecan.
Great coffee! Helpful and friendly staff!
Awesome coffee and tea shop.
Good coffee! Their hours make it a bit hard though to get coffee in the evenings. I hope they'll consider extending their hours and keeping the store open on Sundays.
Walk into this local coffee joint and enjoy the smells. Great coffee and very cheap.
My son told me about this place & how good the coffee is, I had to try it for myself. Stopped in on light up night, the place was not packed as I thought it would be the girl at the counter where you order hot coffee was on her cell phone texting as I stood there waiting to be waited on, she finally looked at me and said "oops, my bad" and finally laid her phone down, she took my order and as I heard her and the young man with the beard that was working with her, swear, saying s__t, as customers were clearly in listening distance. I was unimpressed with the customer service, as there didn't seem to be any. But I did enjoy the Holiday Cheer coffee. Tip for you guys at Nicholas, train your employees to be attentive & friendly and to put the cell phones away while at work.
Over a hundred teas to choose from, and great service.
What a FANTASTIC selection of Teas & Coffee from around the world! The place smelled so so good. I don't even really drink coffee much, but insist on getting a fresh cup every visit.
Ordering a shot of espresso was a chore and not worth it. Overly roasted and poorly poured.
A quaint little coffee shop with more variety of coffee roasts than you could count in a single visit. The staff is friendly and everyone I saw went out with a big smile on their face.
Friendly staff and so many different types of tea. As someone who only drinks tea, this has been a Godsend. It also makes for a good break from work
In my opinion Nicholas has the best selection and coffees in the city
One of the best lattes to ever pass my lips.
Great coffee and amazing selection of coffee and tea both
I agree with a couple of the other reviews... Coffee is good, but staff is rude... I usually shop online anyway, but stopped in while in Pittsburgh. It was like I was a bother to them to buy some coffee. They don't honor the discount program (according to the guy that finally took my order) in the store that I use online... And now, they have changed the website... No more 3# option and it requires a password reset and won't send me a reset email... So now no discounts online either? I was almost to the highest level, which means that I have spent a lot of $ there...
We arrived on a Saturday afternoon around 3pm. I had a large Guatemalan drip coffee. The flavor was not fresh, more like a mixture of wet dog and moldy grass. Aka, old and rancid. Dare I say that the roast was not recent or more likely the coffee sat in a dirty pot for hours before it was poured for us. None of their roasters were in operation in the back room. The aroma walking in reeked of artificial berry flavors, not freshly roasted coffee. If you go here, get an espresso blended drink.
Excellent selection of coffees and teas. This is the first time since moving to this city that I've seen a variety as wide as theirs. And the cashier that helped me was extremely knowledgable and honest about teas she hadn't tried. After today, I will now become a regular!
Find a great variety of coffee beans and tea leaves. They also sell cigars.
Great coffee and teas here. Huge selection. Make sure you go next door and grab some pastries at Prantls. Seriously, don't skip this mix.
Welcome back. We walked into the shop today to buy coffee for the first time since the recent fire. We bought coffee beans and a couple of cups of coffee. Whoever made the coffee did not put the lid on my daughter coffee properly. She lifted the coffee and her hand was SCALDED. The guy behind the counter didn’t blink except to ask if she needed the coffee topped off. It was obvious to all of us she had a bad burn . There was no apology/ offer of ice or a cold rag. The staff watched as we try to offer comfort and help to my daughter. After all your business has been thru, might I suggest the following. Own up to it and offer to help. This is your business and it reflects poorly.
Amazing coffee and tea selections. Always fresh roasted and great candy and novelties as well.
