Great coffee, service and atmosphere! It's often bustling, so finding seating isn't always an option depending on the time and day.
If you want to talk shop and coffee is your language, this is the place for you. Knowledgeable staff, personal attention to you and your drink and a very relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommend this one!
I was in town for the holiday weekend and was happy to find Commonplace Coffee just around the corner from my Airbnb rental. The shop is charming and the cappuccino was delicious. I was ecstatic they were open on the Memorial Day holiday; it made my day. I visited on Saturday and Sunday- both visits had exceptional service. It wasn’t packed but was steady busy. They accept credit cards, have some baked goods for purchase, and sell bags of coffee as well as some merchandise. I would definitely visit again when in the area.
Absolutely loved the Latte I had. They use a great brand of oat milk, which is great as a vegan!
Commonplace is easily the best chain coffee shop in town, hands down. However, the Penn Ave shop is better than this one because of the wider variety of vegan options.
Great vibe, nice place to meet people. Good coffee. They had a great wall of flyers and neighborhood announcements. I love supporting local businesses!!
The service here is very personal and tender hearted. A barista literally spoon fed me the last drop of my lavender vanilla latte. I don’t think I could get that kind of love anywhere else. Thank you for caring about my latte and my experience.
Great local place and in not a local. They make it a point of remembering you!
Love it. Great coffee, good people. Dare I say it but the best beans in town.
Yummy latte
Ah coffee nectar of the gods! The people here have really honed their craft.
The very first time I walked into this place, I felt I'm at somewhere totally far away like Portland, OR or Berkeley..The surrounding neighborhood is a little rusty, old and at some point run-down, but once you're in front of Commonplace MWS, it's a different story.. It is the definition of a hidden gem. This Commonplace coffeeshop is a small chain opened in 2003 in Indiana, PA. The have 4 branches in Pittsburgh. I have been to 3 of them and this Mexican Wars branch is by far the best one.
Amazing coffee. There's usually food trucks during the week as well so look out for those.
If I lived closer, I would be there every day. Cute shop, friendly baristas, and great coffee.
Great place! Very trendy and real urban feel. Coffee is excellent and reasonably priced for what you get. Service is also very fast and friendly.
Great tasting staff and friendly coffee.
Worth finding from wherever you are in Pittsburgh. You'll be rewarded.
Inexpensive gourmet coffee and treats
I wish if this place is little bigger
Amazingly friendly, wonderful atmosphere. I'm not much of a coffee drinker but stopped in on my way killing time. Breakfast burrito is good; not sure if in-house made or simply microwaved, but I would recommend stopping in if in the area.
Great friendly staff, comfortable environment, and yummy coffee!
Nice place small coffee kind of snobby service
Amazing coffee and cool addition to the north side. I've had mixed interactions with the staff. They seem very friendly to certain people and not to others
Small, neighborhood coffee place with a very friendly staff, great coffee, and nice atmosphere.
Great coffee.
Great coffee. Friendly baristas. Nice old school neighborhood
Great people and good coffee. Nice, neighborhood coffee shop.
Cute local business
I went in there to get a cup of tea and the place is a little to expensive for me so I will have stay in my lane and buy some where I can afford
Good quality drinks, cozy and bright interior.
My espresso beverage was good, lighter roast than I usually enjoy. Friendly and prompt service. Nicely styled shop. Indoor seating and a few sidewalk chairs too. Dog water outside.
This little cozy hip spot was amazing. Great service. And best of all, some of the best coffee around.
They make delicious coffee and have a beautiful, airy space in which to drink it. Lovely neighborhood spot.
Great location and great coffee selection. The baristas are knowledgeable and make delicious drinks
Great meet up with friend. Coconut macaroons were delish.
Great vibe. I had a yummy raspberry tea and an in house made dessert as I sat with my daughter. She lives in the area and frequents this place.
Great cup of coffee. Attention to detail.
Super cute place in a very cool party of the city!
Great coffee. Awesome people. Good ambiece if you're looking for a little noisy neighborhood type place.
The place was okay. But didn't like the cafe taste. It was better than lots of places. But I expected more.
Love this place! Great variety. Super service. Coffee is great. Friendly service.
Super friendly staff, free secure internet, great coffee - some sandwiches and baked goods. Organic and taste great.
Cute space and friendly people, but the brew is often inconsistent. Sometimes the coffee is weak and watery, sometimes strong. Great when it's strong!
This coffee is damn delicious!
great place. great people.
Really good beverages & snacks. Prices are fair too. Cozy, friendly atmosphere.
Commonplace MWS is the gem of the Commonplace coffee houses, serving some of the best coffee and espresso drinks, and arguably the best coffee shop atmospheres in the Burgh. The location on Pittsburgh's North Side in the Mexican War Streets neighborhood is beautiful. The shop has a bright, woody atmosphere and offers a strong selection of local pastries and donuts to pair with your maple honey latte on ice. 10/10.
I love all of the commonplace coffee locations! Their cappuccinos and lattes are some of the best in the city. Their baked goods are super delicious and not very sugary. Their chocolate chip cookies have a bit of sea salt on them that makes them really good. I haven't tried anything else.
TJ the owner and his staff are super friendly! Love this place! They roast they're own coffee, beautiful light roasts. Definitely coming back whenever I'm in town.
Great 3rd wave joint. I'm picky.
Wonderful coffee place. The staff are friendly and courteous. The coffee is excellent. I drink it black. Gets crowded quickly because it is so popular.
Very good coffee. Recommend the lavender.
Enormous care for the quality of their coffee as well as for the care of their patrons and neighbors.
Very close to our place of work. I'm rating 5 stars based on the quality of service and taste of coffee; both are excellent! The only thing I would change is offering bigger sizes for to-go cups! I need like two larges to get through the morning.
Limited menu. My chai latte had no flavor is was just plain. My friend said the espresso was amazing though
There aren't a lot of coffee shops in the area where families can feel comfortable bringing their kiddos, but Commonplace Coffee Mexican War Streets is very accommodating. They even have toys and books to keep our little ones occupied while we sip a great cup of coffee! Thanks guys!
Love this hidden gem on the northside! Staff is friendly and the area has a strong community support :) Variety of cold and warm beverages/snacks. love the interior, AC equipped, friendly environment, community tables, quick WIFI, free street parking always available, constant flow of customers and food trucks.
This shop is cute and is a welcome addition to the north side. The barista was super friendly!
Great vibe. Excellent coffee and the mint chocolate donut was a great choice!
Great coffee!
Really good coffee, good vibes, and a toy shelf to keep kids occupied while you wake up.
Great coffee, and pastries. Chill place to work or just hangout
such good coffee and a great atmosphere. can get crowded and there arent many places to sit but if you can grab a seat it's a great place to study
Delicious cold brew and a friendly environment.
Always a great experience. ..just like the coffee
An awesome experience! Not just the place, but people are so nice over here. And right now I’m enjoying my hot cup of coffee in this beautiful place!
Stuck up. Not friendly. Latte was NOT worth the money.
TJ the owner is the Freakin Gandof of Coffee
Nice, cool, boutique coffee shop in north-side area of Pitt! You should try yummy cookies with super cool coffee!
Would have given this place 5 stars but the barista was not very helpful and kind of rude...I asked her if she had any recommendations because we had never been before, and she just stared at me...so I asked about one of the flavors and she just stared at me...coffee was good tho!
Commonplace Coffee is definitely the best roaster in Pittsburgh, and this is their nicest location. However, the baristas don't seem overly knowledgeable about their beans, which is unfortunate. Still, 5 stars as they make a nice chemex.
I "escape" to here from CCAC campus throughout the week and it is always an enjoyable experience. I've only had coffee, espresso and tea but their milk based drinks seem popular as well. The baristas always enjoy talking about the pour over offerings and pay particular attention to brew times for coffee and tea. The treats selection is great and they also offer wraps/sandwiches from Community Kitchen Pittsburgh. Super tasty.
The owner and all the staff are incredibly friendly, helpful, and genuinely kind people. The drinks are all awesome, especially the Honey Latte. The space is warm and cozy -- a comfortable place to stop for a conference call and a coffee or just to relax with friends or your computer over good coffee or espresso.
Great location. Wish there was more seating.
Maple walnut latte and quiche were excellent. Love the atmosphere of strangers sharing tables while sunshine streams through the windows.
Fantastic coffee shop with great atmosphere and quality single origin pour-overs. Frank is super knowledgeable about CC and where they source the beans from! I'll definitely be coming back here when I'm visiting Pgh.
I've had coffee in so many beautiful places. From Hawaii to Seattle, everywhere I go, I'm on the search for a golden cup a Joe. This place is now my favorite in Pittsburgh. While you wait for your coffee, check out the art work and after, walk across the street to the courtyard (its adorable).
I love this place!!!! They are way beyond friendly and accepting there. Plus the vanilla iced coffee thing they make Oh My God/Hum Di Allah/All Praise To Zeus which ever deity cause them to make this drink has my loyalty cause its amazingly awesome!!!!!!!
We were in town over this past weekend while there was a major heat wave, but we sought out this spot and were so pleased with it. Nice and cool inside, and the lavender vanilla iced coffee was fabulous. Plus the interior was so beautiful and clean. Highly recommend.
Best coffee shop in Pittsburgh! The baristas are highly knowledgeable (but not arrogant) and the shop is a great place to get some work done. Oh and the coffee is high quality but not overpriced.
It's Saturday. It's 9am. There's a long line. Getting coffee takes 15 min. The owner: 'I'll put one barista on duty. yes, this is good'
Great place to hangout with friends and fantastic coffee and tea
Get the Pour over! It is delicious!
Cozy place, good atmosphere
A small, friendly coffee shop in a neighborhood overdue for more local restaurants and businesses.
Great coffee, always friendly folks.
Nice place! Quick service and since I'm not a coffee drinker, I appreciated the wide selection of teas. My friend was even able to get a hot chocolate (in late June.) Big windows let in lots of light, & there was a steady stream of customers making it a stimulating place for a conversation with friends or an independent work session. It was surprisingly easy to find street parking, too!
Love this neighborhood coffee shop, and how it's walking distance from cultural assets like Lake Elizabeth and the Mattress Factory
Whenever I travel I make it a point to stop at a local ☕️ shop. Had a great cup of coffee here. I usually take cream in my coffee, but after taking a sip of my coffee, it didn’t need it. Extremely flavorful on its own. Baristas are cool, sitting is limited, and there is free street parking. I enjoyed it so much that I ended up picking up a bag of beans to take home. I will be stopping by here next time I am in Pittsburgh.
Trendy, intimate space with excellent coffee and tea selections.
Great coffee, and not a lot of pretension around all of it. I don't know that I'd do work here as the space is fairly small, but it's great for an in and out.
Love this place! The staff and service is always on point and super friendly. The coffee is good and makes for a nice place to relax for a while or focus on some work.
An oasis on the North Side! This is my favorite coffee shop in all of Pittsburgh, quaintly tucked into the Mexican War Streets neighborhood. It's a great place to grab a flavorful cup of coffee, fun specialty drink (think honey lavender latte), or a delicious baked good made with local ingredients. My partner and I love coming here with a book or work to do while we enjoy the peaceful, friendly environment. They also have local artists on exhibit around the coffee shop, if you're looking to add some art to your home!
Intimate setting with great coffee.
5 stars all the way! Coffee is great, people are awesome.
Perfect coffee store.
Great little neighbourhood café
Best coffee in Pittsburgh
Such a cool little quaint neighborhood coffee spot.
Best coffee shop in the 'burgh. Delicious beverages, friendly staff, inviting space - can't beat it.
The cold brew was recommended by the barista. It tasted like water with a splash of coffee. I didn't complain then, so I shouldn't complain now. Oh well. I prefer the Squirrel Hill location.
Quaint and perfect. Best affogado I've ever had, highly recommend.
Best latte I've had in Pittsburgh! (Nonfat latte with honey)
Very kind staff! Rich coffee. Very strong! Enjoyed the atmosphere! Great place to discuss life with a friend!
Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon for a coffee and a muffin. Great service, great coffee, great vibes. And the bannana choc chip muffin was delish. Definitely stop by if you have the chance!
Great little spot in the wonderful Mexican War Streets of Pittsburgh. The staff are super friendly and more than competent in their barista skills. I particularly enjoy the coffee cake along with my coffee when I stop in.
A friendly and helpful staff, and great coffee and tea selections. This cafe is cozy and welcoming, and is a great spot for have a cup of coffee in or to go. One of my favorites in Pittsburgh.
Really nice atmosphere— the perfect place to land after a tour of RandyLand and the Mattress Factory. Delicious coffee, prepared with great care. Nice art on the walls.
Coffee can be improved but a very friendly staff and a quite place to study!
This is my first day here and now it will be my go to coffee shop/sanity place/meditation/workplace and my new home. This is the place which make me regret spending my past Money on Starbucks, This place is total love and I want it to be hidden from the face of the earth :) I am possessive already.
Quaint cafe, nestled in the middle of the neighborhood. Good coffee, friendly people.
Good coffee, crazy line for the bathroom when any public event it's going on in the area
Great atmosphere. First time visiting as a client suggested as a meeting location. It is similar to the sitcom Cheers, but a coffeehouse.
Pretty good latinamerican coffee!!!
Just thought it was a nice place to hang out. Love the big windows. Nice energy of the customers. Great coffee too of course!
Unpretentious neighborhood cafe. Great staff. I am a quiche snob and their quiche is dangerously delicious.
Wonderful local community coffee shop
Commonplace has great coffee but gets crowded really fast. We were there in a Sunday around Noon and were lucky to get a seat. Shared a coffee carafe with my son and the coffee was excellent. When we inquired about the coffee however, the person at the counter was not knowledgeable. Guess I am getting too used to the baristas at the local coffee roasters who are more than willing to discuss where the beans came from, their flavor profile, etc. Still, the coffee was excellent so I recommend going here.
It's a nice, small coffee shop with some good seating. I got the chai latte and everyone else got plain coffees so I can't attest to their espresso, but it's a great place to get a cup and walk to Randyland to fill up a nice hour.
trendy place with some good coffee and pastry options
We rented an appartement near this café. We went to get our daily fix of caffeine each morning. ;) The coffee was great and the staff was very friendly. They were also very helpful in suggesting different attractions to visit in Pittsburg. I strongly recommend :)
Great place for high quality espresso
Great espresso. Definitely try an apple cider donut!
One of the best cortados I've ever had! Frank and Drew are cool dudes!
Perfect place to go and get some work done with a really good coffee selection. Everyone there is really friendly and they even have a couple tables outside for when it's nice out. If you're hungry while you're there ask about the grilled cheese, you won't be disappointed.
I love this place! The best coffee and wonderful staff. It's great to have a local coffee shop to call my own!
My family and I love this place! Perfect way to start a morning! It's cozy and there aren't too many seats when it get busy, but no worries, because it seems like this place draws in the frendliest of people. Great for families and the coffee is great!
This is hands down the best coffee in Pittsburgh, and every time we visit we must take a bag back home. The service as always is friendly and speedy. Until next time Commonplace cafe!
Chai latte tasted like hot water. Have had better from Dunkin’. Quiche was cold and tasted like eggbeaters. It was taken out of an ominous box and heated. Steamers were okay but still lacked any flavor. We were tourists thinking this was a fun place to visit due to the high reviews; however, we were extremely disappointed.
Visited Commonplace Coffee yeaterday. We are new to the area and still unpacking, and coffee was a must! The service was amazing, the cappuccino and latte were fantatsic. This will be my new coffee go to as it just a short walk away! Friendly people, and staff!
Commonplace is great! This is a great location to stay out of the downtown bustle yet close to the highways still.
The staff are really friendly. good coffee and pastries are served in here
Only one person working I had to wait longer than I think I should have. My vanilla latte tasted like dark roast coffee. The sandwiches and wraps are not labeled with ingredients. I didn't have one but the desserts looked good. My order was to go but the space is very cute and calm.
Nice small coffee shop,my pour over was not bad, service was great, location is nice, very quiet
Nice place to take friends. My coffee was excellent
best coffee of this area. i visit this place every alternative day for the coffee.
Lattes are made with such smooth, flavorful espresso. Very delicious. Also comes with pretty foam designs!
Fabulously unpretentious with a great selection of simple drinks. The effort here is at quality not quantity or useless bs. Just make sure you take your time to enjoy it!
Friendly, clean, classical music in background. I had files to review for work. Very relaxing environment in which to work.
A small and very busy coffee shop. The service was okay and the coffee was decent. It did seem a little pricy for the size of beverage we got.
Good neighborhood coffee shop
Good atmosphere, & a wonderful French vanilla latte.
Great Cappuccino! Friendly staff. Nice palace meet friends or just get your favorite coffee drink. Big plus, the coffee is roasted right here in Pittsburgh.
i love snacking here. this place has a great atmosphere. menu is like a cafe in indianapolis i loved.
It was so-so
Excellent, high quality coffee options in a cozy corner of a great Pittsburgh neighborhood. The lavender vanilla latte is a favorite; it's not too sweet. The changing art installations are an interesting feature of this place. Also, I have found out about several different community events from their events board.
Easily one of my favorite coffee shops in Pittsburgh. I love the Mexican war streets and this coffee shop in the middle of the neighborhood is just cool. It feels relaxed and personal.
Small but mighty! This adorable little spot might be small in size but definitely not in charm! With glorious, painted, tin ceilings, the seating area is full of history. Their chai latte is rich and flavorful - perfect for a nice, cool day. Definitely a wonderful spot to sit and chat, work on a project, listen to music or just people watch! Will definitely be visiting again soon!
Frank was very friendly. I enjoyed my chai latte and fresh pastries.
Good place
One of the few coffees shops in the area. It's small. People (patrons and staff) are so laid back (total generalizations) that they almost seem aloof. It's a cute place but not particularly warm(welcoming) every time I go, despite living down the street, I feel like an outsider.
Cozy, bright, mildly hip small spot. Got a lavender vanilla iced latte, flavor wasn't overpowering and the espresso tasted good.
Great coffee and quiet place
Drip drip drop little coffee flowers
Coffeehouses are popping up everywhere it seems and on a recent visit to Pittsburgh to explore the beer and coffee scenes, I was pleasantly surprised at just how many coffeehouses call the Pittsburgh area home. One of the most popular and best is Commonplace Coffee. At Commonplace Coffee, you can order a chai latte, mocha latte, teas in different flavors, cold brew, or just a regular cup of java black or any way you like it. They serve delicious blueberry muffins and other snacks and the atmosphere is about as laid back and friendly as it could possibly be. Speaking of the atmosphere, it has an artistic vibe and you will notice different art work on the walls as you sit and sip on your beverage. The inside is on the small side and seats are somewhat limited, but if the weather is nice, I recommend heading across the street. There is an outdoor space with seating where you can soak up a natural setting while sipping on your brew. Coffeehouses are nice and Commonplace is one of the best of all in the Pittsburgh area. I liked everything about this coffeehouse and I recommend a visit if you're in the area.
Very cool coffee shop. I ordered an Espresso and they included a small glass of soda water along with it. Never saw that before. I will be back!
Great coffee, even better people!
Pretty excellent. Small but mighty, beautiful windows and good seating for the space. The barista is exceedingly kind. My order came out slightly off, and he was more than happy to make it right, and then better. Really great folks holding this place down.
