REVIEWS OF The Fat Hen IN Washington

Oscar Alvarez

Beutiful cozy place in the neighborhood. Very well decorated space with a French feeling and tasteful ambiance music. Our server was very nice to us and made good menu suggestions. We ordered one of the tomato dishes and a benedict, the food flavor was on point. TIP#1: Ask for the house made hot sauce, it is very subtle and does not overcome the food taste. TIP#2: Get there before 9 am to avoid waiting long for a table.

Ashley Patricio

Great smoked salmon benedict and coffee

Dídac Pérez Parera

Everyone says it is the best brunch in town. I don't think it is true. The selection is good, but limited.

Osama Hamdan

If you are looking for a unique and amazing breakfast experience, look no further than The Fat Hen. Lots of great options all taste great with a few specials to spice things up. The environment is laid back, the atmosphere is cool and the staff take great care. Wish I only lived closer to go more often.

Great food and staff

Shirley Yeung

Overall I really enjoyed this restaurant. Only compliant is the wait time and it was an hour long! The restaurant itself is really small and in a residential area. Parking in the area wasn't an issue but it is very popular, so expect waits. No reservations, just walk in and write your name on a list. There is a park nearby so we went for a walk. The food was really delicious though! We really enjoyed the food and it was very fresh. Prices were reasonable and service was friendly as well! They did get quiet about an hour before closing, so that may be a good time to go by!

Chelsea Sikes

Always worth the wait

rod mason

This breakfast and lunch place is a gem. We had an egg bake served in a cast iron pan in a flavorful tomato sauce base along with a side of potatoes, fine pastries and excellent coffee. Service was friendly and prompt. The ambience was cozy. Get there early and wait a little. Get there later and wait a while.

James Vaughn

Amazing prechetta Benedict with roasted potatoes. Definitely worth the wait.

Melinda Issakov

If you love a good breakfast you’ll love this place. Cosy yet clean and modern restaurant. Busy on weekends but easy to find a table during the week. Try the eggs benedict, they are amazing! Great services and wonderful coffee too.

Tegan Wallace

Cozy little place with delicious egg bakes and very sweet staff. Went with my 4-year-old son and we both lived the food.

Mike D

Really good food. A bit tight on space.

Melody McMillan

Flavorful food, super long and confusing wait. We were told 45min-1 hour wait time, so we took a 13 minute walk. I didn’t want to miss our names being called so we came back waaaaay early. When we got back, our names had been called and we were passed over, which was a little frustrating. This place could probably really benefit from one of those “text you when your table is ready” systems. Other than the wait, delicious müesli with fresh figs and a great egg bake.

Jackie Bailey

Quaint neighborhood cafe' with fresh tasty food. We enjoyed the buttermilk chicken sandwich.

Nio Gio

Great food and very friendly staff! I would avoid busy hours due to the location.

Jake Millman

Pretty small but that’s what contributes to the atmosphere of the place. The staff were super nice and personable gave me and my Gf a free cookie kinda dope. Food probably overrated but still really good.

Eva Rozelle

Great food and the service was good!

Roger Pai

Their eggs in purgatory were amazing. I like the simplicity of the one in just tomato and basil.

Jom Preechayasomboon

Amazing food. Small place. Long wait.

Whvtitiz W

What an amazing and adorable breakfast cafe! First off the set up of this place is cute yet extremely small so there can be a long wait, about an hour to get a taste of there deliciousness! We ordered drip coffee and a vanilla latte. Latte art and a great cup of coffee. We got the Levain toast - sweet and it was fantastic. Jam and homemade ricotta on a thick piece of toast. YES. Also ordered the Dungeness crab Benedict. WOW. So much flavor and so much goodness. The potatoes are perfect. PERFECT! You don’t need salt or hot sauce this is the real deal good ol breakfast with some pizazz. Great and friendly service. **came in on a Monday a little after opening and easily got a spot. Please note that it did pick up after 930. ** Thanks a bunch!

Megan Henderson

They make mimosas the PROPER way. Mostly champagne with a tiny splash of fresh squeezed juice, none of that nonsense with store bought juice overpowering my bubbles. The food is incredible, just be prepared to wait a long time to get seated. The staff are super friendly and welcoming and never seem annoyed with the business.

Ashley Kernes

Second time back while we were in town. Looking forward to coming back once we are in Seattle again.

Bryan Brown

Given the perpetual wait at this joint, I had high hopes. Unfortunately, the experience was fairly disappointing. The camicia tasted ok, but the sauce to egg ratio was way too high and after a few bites of eggs you're just left with a bowl of tomato sauce and a tiny piece of baguette. The Florentine benedict was also palatable but boring for the style (eg. spinach only) and the hollandaise wasn't much to write home about. Top that all off with high prices for the quality and quantity of food received and boom, a perfect recipe for mediocrity.

Marianne Chandler

Lovely neighborhood cafe! Best brunch if you can snag yourself a table!

anna berentson

Worth the wait

Danielle Nguyen

I love this place. I like how they only serve a certain amount of items (all VERY good). The housemade ricotta & jam is like the BEST thing ever.

Trish Stoner

Absolutely amazing! Definitely recommend. Wait was a little long because it's popular and small but so worth the wait! Camicia is must. The housemade tomato sauce is the best I've ever had. Breakfast potatoes were delicious as was the housemade granola. Our server was so friendly and accommodating too. Loved that he was from Northern California

Scott Hamele

Very unique breakfast dishes. A must if you're in Seattle!

Giovanna Oseguera Tapia

Had to wait quite a long time! Really tasty food and service was good but the space was reallly small and I kind of felt like I was eating with the people next to us (lol). That aside, I’d recommend it!

Karli Broglio

Amazing breakfast place. Only kind of "special" breakfast place I know of on the North end of Seattle, but they claim the title well. It's tiny, you will have to wait for a table most times you go, and they should turn the heat up, but the food and coffee are both amazing and worth the wait. Plus, you can put your beverage order in while you wait so they'll bring you coffee before the seat you. Really a special little joint.

Garrett King

One of my favorite brunch spots. Small so come patient and ready to wait awhile for a table. Worth the wait in my opinion!

Shelbi Svoboda

First and foremost, the staff here are A+. We ducked in at 1:45 for a late lunch and ended up ordering two different baked eggs - Camicia and Alla Boscailoa - both under $13. The bread served with these was perfect for dunking in eggs. We got one of the chickpea salads and at $11 is a crazy value for a salad that could feed four. Two chai teas and a complementary scone as they were shutting down confirmed that this neighborhood spot is worth visiting again.

Rachelle Muzones

I am very upset about the poor customer service this establishment has shown. I had a party of 6 and they told us our approximate wait time is 1-1.5 hours. Our group decided wait but as we waited they seated other groups that had gotten there later than us and got seated. The waitress even chased down another group to get them seated before us. We tried to wave them down and they ignored us. When we finally asked when we would get seated she said it would take another 30 minutes. I’m absolutely appalled by their customer service and would not recommend unless you are willing to spend your time waiting and wondering when you will ever get to be seated.

Nicholas Reid

Terrific food, really friendly and helpful staff. It's a small space though, so try to visit at less popular times if possible.

Haley Russell Sive

Amazing, fresh food - cozy - comfort food at its absolute best

Ryan Dean

First, I would recommend taking a look at their menu before coming here. There's not a ton of options, so don't count on there being something for everyone. It's also not a big place, so there could be a wait. My friends and I all ordered different kinds of eggs benedict, and they were all delicious. Their hollandaise sauce might be the best I've ever had, and the pepper sauce (for the potatoes) was very tasty (it tastes like red peppers and is just a little spicy). This is a very good spot for brunch.

Vanic 0_o

Food Was Very Good. Definitely Quality Food that doesn't leave you feeling bloated or disgusted to eat anything else. Drinks are good, and the orange juice is the best!! Staff is very friendly and nice. Nice place for breakfast. We did have to wait for a table but it wasn't a long wait.

Onur Karaagaoglu

Great brunch spot. Wait can be too long on weekends.

Wm Curtis Szabo

Great little neighborhood cafe.

Cindy Wallace

Small, cute, efficient cafe. Food and drinks were delicious!! Service was fast and friendly. They got it together!!

Alec Mittelstadt

We went back multiple times to try the different types of eggs benedict and coffee. It was all incredible!

Lita Gaulery

There was only one thing I didn't like here, and I mention it first in hopes it gets the owners' attention, and that is their silverware. I get they're trying to be kitschy by using this "vintage" cutlery, but even as clean as it was it felt rusty when eating. I'm sure they can still be green and reuse something that doesn't feel rusty. But I digress, everything else was great! I had a shandy that was perfectly balanced and a very generous size (tallboy of german beer with lemonade), and I also had the best eggs benedict I've ever had, the ones with the dungeness crab. Food was delicious, with a good balance of sauce, and delicious roasted potatoes, even the hot sauce they brought was house made and very tasty (not really hot though). The location is tiny but adorable. Be ready to wait if you're not a single diner though. I am looking forward to going back, but might have to bring my own fork haha

Tammy Channel

My husband and I shared the crab benedict with potato fingerlings. It was just the right amount of food and the best crab I have ever tasted. Just enough spice to make it interesting. I dont usually choose crab for myself - I was indulging my husband's wishes. Glad I did. I didnt give it 4 stars because the stools are metal and were uncomfortably cold to sit on. I put my coat under me and enjoyed the meal. Friendly and fun service.

Jason Weber

Awesome breakfast/lunch spot. Great coffee, fast and friendly. Will be back!

Farrah Khan

Charming little rustic breakfast place. Fits about 15 people. Good menu selection for a classic, slightly trendy brunch menu option. Great coffee.

Jiyoon Kim

The food was awesome (egg benedict-florentine) and the staff members were really sweet. I had to wait for 20 min but it didn’t bother me at all after I tasted the food. I’d definitely recommend this place.

Susanna Nasnet

Rating 3 stars for overall experience, We didn't mind waiting the long line. They give you an option to order drinks while you wait but we never got those drinks. The staff was really nice and took our order quickly. 1. Regular shakshuka: the sauce was really good but eggs were slightly over cooked. The best part of this type of meal is breaking into the egg. While it was runny on the top the bottom part of the yolk was hard. 2. Mimosa: more orange juice than champagne 3. Latte: looked like a cup of milk. 4. Potatoes : THE BEST POTATOES EVER!!! Crispy and perfectly seasoned.

Kayla Seamster

Great service, amazing food. Only downside is how small the restaurant is. We never mind waiting because you can get full service coffee before a table opens up!

deaanna assad

The absolute best brunch in the whole country. Every time my partner and I go, there is always a wait (sometimes 1+ hours long) but ITS WORTH THE WAIT!!! We have become regulars and will never stop going back. Best hollandaise I’ve ever had! I wish I could give The Fat Hen more stars. Also Super queer friendly and is a safe space

RT Guido

The kind of small restaurant that I love. Good food, good service and good coffee. I will definitely go back.

Susie Kim

Never have gotten disappointed of their dishes. Waiting is LONG THO, 45-70mins on the weekend

Karen Daniels

OMG the food was heaven! My favorite was the Ricotta Cream Toast or Granola, both made with their home made recipes!!!!! A must stop if you are in the area!!!!♥️

julie phillips

Absolutely fantastic. Wonderful homey feel. Phenomenal food with quality ingredients. Creative and delicious menu. Would recommend!

Chris Olszewski

Great coffee and excellent egg bake. Will definitely be coming back in the future.

Jacob Hillis

Great food. Menu seems like it changes a lot so there should be something new to try each time

Anthony Spriggs

A nice, quaint little shop, amazing drip coffee, and lots of egg based dishes!

B.S.C.

We LOVE the Fat Hen, they're always so attentive to producing phenomenal high quality dishes. We've never had a undercooked/overcooked meal or a single dish without going the extra mile to get it perfect and pay incredible attention to detail. They don't have a large menu, but what they serve they do incredibly well. There's pretty much always a wait for weekend brunch, but it's well worth it if you're looking for a high quality meal!

Brooke Ottman

This place was so delicious!! Worth the wait!!

Kevin Baker

Everyone knows they are great breakfast. But these boys (and girls) have a fried chicken sandwich that will rock your world. Wow... truly special.

Steve Martinez

I've never been to this place but based on the reviews I'm giving it 5 stars.

Sky Dean

Cute cute cute + good Benny

Viktoriya Burkatska

Food was super delicious. We came in a week day morning for brunch. They were packed! Next time will know to make reservation. Over all experience was great, we did have the option to sip on some drinks while waiting. That was nice of them to offer. The only down side is that this place is tiny. Really wish there was more seating area.

Sofi Takei

Popular brunch place for baked eggs. It's tiny so get there early. Often the wait times can be 40 minutes to an hour on weekends. Get your name on the list and hop over across the street to the bakery for a baked good and some coffee while you wait!

Shaun Bothelo

The food was really good. I only have one problem. The place can get really hot. There is no good ventilation in this place

Colleen Martin

Too small and garbage outside stinky.

Sam Miller

Love this place, but it's very small. Prepare to wait a few minutes to get a table.

Derek Hammitt

The Crab Benedict was delicious

Simone Nascimento

The space is very limited but the food is so good that now I can understand how busy it can get! I had the Camicia and tasted awesome!

Shannon McConnaughey

Food is immaculately prepared, well thought out, and immensely satisfying. Often have to wait for a table, but it is well worth it.

Jenn Ravenna

My husband and I have been regulars here ever since we moved to Ballard and thought it was time to write a review. We basically order the same thing every time, but we never get tired of it. Egg bakes, olives, and the french press are our go-to. We love the delicious healthy brunch options. We love the cute space. There is almost always a line but we've figured out the best times to go at this point. It's always worth it. And the staff is always really sweet. They also have really cool tattoos and excellent skincare regimens. I honestly don't know how this place could get anything less than 5 stars. To me, it's just unfair to take down stars for waiting. The space is small and they're popular for a reason.

Kristina Echols

As others have mentioned there is always a long wait but don't let that ruin your experience, this place is 100% worth waiting for!! Hot tip: there are nearby coffee shops you can wait at. The food and drinks are delicious and the service was incredible! If you don't want to wait you can always get your food to go (except the egg bakes). Next on my list to try is some of the delicious pastries and toast.

Nikhil Singh

Great place for brunch. The egg bakes are delicious.

Anders Rodin

I really enjoy this restauraunt and its location. It was very cold inside and a bit crowded. I’d go back, but I’d say they could improve on their menu options especially vegetarian and gluten free options.

Anny Campbell

Great food and service! Best time to go is during the week as weekends are super packed... Or get there before they open

Kimberly Morris

i give this place two thumbs up. i look forward to a return trip.

Ann Ceron

I've been coming here for years now and I love all their delicious food. You can't go wrong with any of their breakfasts (my fave: fried rice omelet), and their lunches of banh WA and pho are tasty too. They're a great value with wonderful service that make all the locals return on a regular basis!

Karen Turner

Nothing to write home about. The place is too small and the service was non-existent. I got up and left.

Eric Peterson

Great spot for brunch or lunch. Within walking distance from downtown Ballard. Street parking available in the neighborhood. Small menu but they only serve the best options.

유종덕

Comfort place for enjoy brunch

Sajia Aliya

My husband took me here for my birthday brunch. Ordered the Camicia and sipped on a mimosa. I'd order the same thing every time! Friendly staff and really great vibe. Expect a wait on weekends. But, it's on one of the quaintest little streets, so you could take a stroll while you wait for a table.

Blaine Le Comte

We went to The Fat Hen on a beautiful sunny Sunday morning. When we got there we parked on the street because they don't have parking. First thing we noticed was this is a small restaurant. We went inside and found that the wait was only 5 minutes for a table and I don't think we waited that long. The inside has a very nice feel, almost like a French Bistro. Light and airy. The service was pretty good. They are helpful, give you time to look at the menu and we're not overbearing. The menu is not very big but everything sounded good. We ordered the Crab Benedict and Alla Boscaiola, both were very good. Both dishes we're a good proportions that you can eat it all and not be stuffed. I wish I had taken a picture of the dish but when I got the food it looked so good I jumped right in. This is going to be a place we will go back to and become regulars at.

WSINW

Long wait, awesome food

Nathaniel Grant

Fried chicken was delicious!!

Paul Mason

There are two things that make the Fat Hen great: the food and the atmosphere. Specializing in eggs Benedict and the tomato sauce-based skillet, the quality of food is superb. A small retail corner tucked away in a residential neighborhood makes for a quiet, cozy meal.

Eugene Suave

Rude staff. 1.75 hour wait. Exclusive cold set-up which need not be. Patrons that wait are your customers too-connect with them, communicate with and maybe post wait times boldly. Offer things while you wait, have people come back at the more appropriate time. No restaurant is worth a 2 hour wait, especially one that gives off a cold shoulder. We have a lot to choose from in this town.

Vicente Alinson

We were told it was an hour and a half wait, we did wait for an hour and a half. We were not seated and saw smaller groups and one larger group seated ahead of us even though we were told we were going to be seated next. They did not give any explanation as to why a larger group was seated ahead of us even though we were next. I strongly recommended placing a reservation ahead of time or else groups larger than 4 or else you will not be seated. They will give a sense of false hope while seating smaller groups.

Hylton Buijs

Tucked away from the hustle and traffic, this small restaurant is incredibly cozy, and inviting. Though it was busy, and a wait was present( (and expected), the staff were attentive and got us in quickly. The food was phenomenal, the egg bakes and eggs benefits were excellent.

Olivia Baker

This restaurant is delicious! Be prepared to come early and wait upwards of over an hour for a table. Seating is very limited and there is only one table that can accommodate 5-6 person groups. This place is ideal for parties of 2! You can buy their hot sauce too, but shipments sell out within two days and it needs to be refrigerated.

Allen Ho

Very unique hole in the wall breakfast venue. The wait can be alittle long but the food is worth the wait.

Kristen Antunes

Best brunch I've EVER had.

Gagandeep Singh

Love the baked eggs! Must try!

Rachel Rutledge

Fat Hen is a lovely, intimate brunch experience. Delicious and perfectly prepared dishes, pastries and beverages are in offer. The service is attentive, but unobstructive -- it has to be in such a cozy place -- only 25 seats. There is usually a wait, but it is always worth it.

Kartik Pisharodi

A staple in Portland. This was everything you want from a brunch spot. Great breakfast. Great coffee and friendly service!

oleg cosiuc

Great service, food was okay, coffee is not good at least to my taste. I don't know how people go there for coffee, but maybe I'm just spoiled with good coffee from where I'm coming from. Cappuccinos are made dry here if you know what I mean. If i knew that in advance, i would not come there for coffee because i don't like it dry. Also, the coffee is bitter.

John-David Brown

Awesome brunch options just be prepared to wait awhile. Worth it.

Matthew Castle

Homemade, Tasty egg Benedicts, salad and potatoes. Nice staff.

Michael Skinner

This is one of my favorite breakfast restaurants in the city. They have a simple menu and great quality.

Soohee Kim

Excellent chicken and roasted potatoes! Salads are great as well.

Richie Godsil

Favorite brunch spot! The wait is usually very long but only because their space is limited and they're very popular with trendy young people and foodies. They're benedicts are fantastic and they know how to make a cappuccino (which is much harder to find than it should be). Just get there before 930 or after 130 to be seated right away. During peak hours you could wait up to 90 minutes...

JZapien

The Chicken Sandwhich is being highly disrespected in this establishment. No cheese. No tomato. Way too much sauce. Cabbage. The chicken itself was the worse part of it all. The whole fried piece was about two inches thick and only one fourth of it was actual chicken meat. The rest was BURNT breading. Not fried but burnt. The coloring had no semblance of fried but instead burnt. We had 3 sandwiches and each was equally bad. Save yourself the wait and get a McChicken. The water we had as a beverage was warm. The side of potatoes we had were up to par with the rest of the reviews. The Banana Nut Muffin was excellent and staff was great. But stay away from the supposed "fried" chicken sandwich.

Jamie King

We absolutely love this place. Its cramped so expect a wait(especially on a weekend) and don't come with a large party unless you wanna invite a lot of dirty looks. Portions can be on the smaller side but fear not. Very rich and they use great ingredients so bigger isn't always better. We always get the Ricotta toast and the London Fog is really something on a crisp weekday morning. Highly recommended.

Carlo Dimaculangan

Ignored us. We left.

Russ Dermody

This place is incredible. Don't expect a quick in-and-out breakfast experience though. Instead, set aside a morning to truly enjoy the best eggs Benedict in Seattle.

Chelsea Palmer

The food is good, but the wait is often massive and the service is hit or miss. The baked eggs are super great and worth a try. Be prepared to wait.

Rajan Nambiar

Simple homely food..

Jonathan Kaufman Scher

Terrible organization and customer service. They need someone who knows how to run a restaurant to to come in and whip them into shape. Went in today with a party of 2 and put our names in. There were 2 sets of 2 open seats. Waited 10 minutes and no names were called; no one was seated. Lots of folks were waiting outside. Went in to check on what was going on and overheard the hostess saying to the woman in line in front of me that she couldn't take her outside (waiting) coffee order, because she has a long list of inside coffee orders to fill. No wonder no one was being seated. When I approached, I asked if the unfilled seats were reserved and was told by the hostess that "having to answer questions about the waitlist" was slowing down the seating process. Sorry that our patronage was a bother, we went down the block to Brunswick & Hunt. It was beautifully decorated, staff were warm and welcoming, and there was plenty of seating. There was an open kitchen with a seating counter, booths and counter seating at their big windows. We sat at the classic grand wood bar with the friendly bartender and gazed out their massive windows at the rainy day outside. Lovely.

Claire Campbell

Great spot for shakshuka or eggs benedict. The coffee is amazing as well. I'm always very happy with the service as well. Their staff is so helpful and nice, and even with the usual long wait, they do a great job.

Emily Casaretto

Have tried on 3 separate occasions to eat here and been unsuccessful every time. I like brunch as much as the next wanton Millennial, but this place feels like an episode of Portlandia. Maybe you enjoy waiting over an hour to be seated and getting flack from hipster servers, but I would recommend Brunswick & Hunt or Sazón around the corner as alternatives.

Dk Is

The staff was fantastic and very pleasant. A+ to them!!! The food was tasty. My only negative take away was the size of the place. I found it to be WAY TOO SMALL! If you are lucky enough to find a time that they are "slow", definitely check it out but it gets really cramped really fast.

Sabrina Mohd Nordin

Great place to test one’s patience in waiting to be seated. I went on late Saturday morning with the intention of having brunch but it turned out to be a lunch as we waited for 75 minutes. But oh my God, the Eggs Benedict was divine! The staffs were very friendly and they allowed you to order drinks while you wait. The foods were amazing, but considering the size of the restaurant, I wouldn’t recommend it to a large party. Nonetheless, it was a great place with great food, and at the end of the day, that’s all that matters. —————————— went for the second time at 9am on Wednesday, wait time was definitely shorter (only waited for 10 minutes). Foods were amazing as usual.

Terence Wong

Wait was long. About an hour long but the skillets and service was amazing. Will definitely visit again.

Matt Smith

Eggs Benedict are super good! One of the best Hollandaise sauces you'll have!

Walli Kay Osborn

One of the best breakfasts in Ballard. My #1 favorite.

Nancy Vertel

Loved this place, their service and the food! Great brunch

Dianne Doyle

The place is small, staff is nice. Food somewhat limited and expensive.

Jo Anne Mc Kaughan

Way laid back and easy. Several eggs Benedict style breakfasts. Egg bake breakfasts. Fresh squeezed OJ. Excellent hot chocolate.

alice johnson

This is a treasure for Seattle. Fresh fabulous food, very clean, small & cozy. You must understand most food in America contains bad oils, food sources being trucked across the country, & thousands of added ingredients to the boxes they get it from. My writing cannot compare to the elegance of this fine lovely spot. If you find you are waiting in line you’ll also find yourself in good company.

Steve Hunter

Great Food not always the best service but I think that has to do with the fact that the place is tiny and they are the victims of their own success and the staff gets a bit stressed.. Brunch on the weekends can be an hour to an hour and a half wait. Since I am not a person who will wait in line for more than 15 minutes I don't frequent the Hen on wellness.

noelle sturtevant

I've had more than one special occasion breakfast here and other than having to wait for a table, it's been a great spot to make memories and eat good food! Lots of parking and in a great neighborhood. Super friendly staff!

Wendy Olsen

Small and personable. Food was delicious, having their own twist on traditional dishes.

Linda Zhang

Adorable little location perfect for brunch! Very popular so don't be surprised at the wait, definitely worth it though! My friend and I each got egg bakes (Camica and Alla Boscaiola) and they were both delicious and filling. The flavours are rich so don't let the size fool you -- you will be full! We also ordered a side of crispy fingerling potatoes to share and could barely finish it all. Great service as well, our waitress was super sweet and friendly.

Samuel Roberts

It was my first time having an egg bake and it was one to remember.

Joe K

Nice little hole in the wall Ballard dining establishment. It's small, comfy and the food is wonderful.

Austin Groom

Absolutely loved this breakfast spot. The dish I had was top notch, the drinks and coffee were delicious, and the service was exquisite. I will certainly be returning to this fine establishment often.

Neo Lee

It's good food and nice place..

Bijan Ziai

Go early, so you can get a table

Rick Devrin

Good food friendly staff. ALWAYS a wait, ALWAYS crowded. It's a small shop with maybe 19 seats and it's still tight. Many of the patrons have a hard time moving along when they're done, forcing the line outside to wait (seemingly ) forever. Parking is residential, so it's very difficult to find. Carpool or walk from a distance. Pay at the counter when your done with your meal. Don't wait for a bill, they do not do it that way. I'd give it four or five if not for the rude typical patron and limited seating.

Josh Kidd

I'd wait all day to eat here love the food. Small place but well serviced..try to avoid a hot day not the best ventilation. Very friendly environment...after my first time it's a monthly event at least

Zoe Bill

This place has amazing Benedicts, the egg bakes aren't quite as flavorful though. Be prepared for wait times after 9:30/10am on weekends. It's also quite expensive, but worth it for the quality of food you get.

Zach Perez

Small cozy place, amazing food. Might have to wait a little for a seat, but it is well worth it.

Julie Soderquist

The food was good, but the menu is very limited and on the pricey side. Seating is also limited. The crispy rosemary breakfast potatoes are wonderful.

Tad Scharpf

Great place for a breakfast or brunch. Excellent food with friendly staff.

Chris Spurlock

There may not be much parking and a half hour wait time comparatively short, but it's definitely worth it. The coffee is pretty good and the other drinks looked tasty but most importantly the food is delicious. I had the chicken sandwich and I sampled the skillet eggs, both of which were very good.

Roger Plank

Very good, very small, very tasty. Our surfer was incredible. I had Dungeness crab Benedict and loved it.

Ivan Ivanovsky

It’s ok. Not kids friendly. The benedicts are nothing special, but this is one of the few places in the region that serves them. The place gets crazy busy on weekends, with long wait lines and we only managed to get in when we were there at opening. I would say that its overhyped and is not worth the wait.

Stefanija Tubbs

I dont think it's a big ask to expect good manners and common courtesy from restaurant staff.

Grace Ford

quick and friendly service.

Selin Gulgoz

One of the best breakfasts in Seattle! Staff are friendly, food is delicious, the atmosphere is bright and has a European feel.

Leigh Haynie

Get thee to Fat Hen for an awesome scone!

Michael Stan

Always a favorite when we visit. Baked eggs are exceptional

Allie Mahler

We absolutely love The Fat Hen and will often travel long distances to come here for brunch on the weekend. Always fresh ingredients and delicious tasting food & pastries. The chicken sandwich was amazing and the shakshuka. The only downside to this place is the wait! But it’s worth it.

Hanna Landherr

Delicious. Small place so you may have to wait a bit. All 3 of us had the egg bakes.

Fairly mediocre experience at the Fat Hen. As a side note, the restaurant has no AC, making the brunch a sweaty affair in this weather. We both got benedicts that came overcooked (closer to hard boiled than anything), and our order of baguette was never fulfilled. All of it making the price and wait not worth it.

How have I not reviewed this yet? I've eaten a lot of eggs benny in my life but nothing has topped theirs. Worth the wait if you have to wait, truly the best breakfast in the city. I recommend getting there right when they open as hardly anyone will be there. I cannot rave enough about this place. The pastries are delicious (my favorite are the almond cloud cookies... heaven), mimosas have fresh squeezed juice, baristas who actually know how to pull a shot??? Yes please! I will always recommend this place. I have never regretted spending any amount of money here.

Wonderful brunch selections and baked goods. Get there early but it always worth the wait.

Cozy space with delicious coffee and brunch offerings

This place is tiny, cozy, and bright. You have to get here early or you'll be waiting a long time for a seat. You can get a beverage and hang out outside in front of the restaurant, however, which is really nice.

Simply the perfect place to go and enjoy ones company with friends

Great food! Great spot!

If it's hot outside I would recommend eating elsewhere. The temperature and humidity inside this establishment ruined the meal. The food was good, but hard to enjoy when drenched in sweat. One ceiling fan, one rotating floor fan and no open windows (other than their front door) created a stiflingly hot dining experience that was not enjoyable. The service wasn't stellar, but I've got to commend the staff who somehow managed to stay standing and conscious in the equatorial heat. Might visit again come winter.

Both the crab and salmon benedicts were outstanding! Great and crispy potatoes for a side were a much appreciated bonus

Michael Snyder

Somehow tastes even better than it looks, get one of the benedicts to seal the deal.

It's a good place to chill with friends. The food was wonderful and I really enjoyed myself. The service and the ambiance were great. Will certainly be back again.

Fat Hen is the best breakfast spot in Ballard, possibly in all of Seattle. Beware the long lines. You can't make reservations so you can only hope for the best. It is a very small restaurant but the service is fast so sometimes it is worth it to wait because the food is so good. The vibe is quaint -- it feels like a farmhouse in the south of France. The menu is simple -- charcuterie, fancy toast, salads, eggs baked in cute little Le Creuset pans with delicious cheese and fresh baked bread. They make an excellent Americano. Highly recommend!

Nice folks, good food. Very small. Better for couples. Long wait outside for 4.
