REVIEWS OF Cafe Mox IN Washington

Victor Nelson

Man I can't say enough about this place. The food was out of this world good. And had a good variety on the menu. It was awesome to be able to play board games with my family while we waited for and ate our food. Even though we only played UNO. But it was very cool, and clean. Awesome and friendly staff. I highly recommend this place to others. What a great experience. And great food.

sarah burgart

We have started having our weekly game night here, and it has been surprisingly delightful. The food is good and the people have been a nice mix of polite and unobtrusive. We got stuck with a table in the middle of a room so there was a bit of accidental jostling, but all in all a great place. I've also bought games from them, they have a pretty good selection, and when the one I wanted wasn't in yet, they alerted me when it was.

Nicole Quist

Such an awesome experience. Great staff. Great food. Great games. I wish I lived closer.

Adam G

Food and boardgames. What else do you need!

David Curry

The service and coffe were both fantastic

Joseph Davis

This Mox is better than the one on Bel-red so far. The staff seems more friendly and knowledgeable. They have more tables and seem to cater to more of their patrons needs. The selection is just as good as the one on Bel-red. The food and parking is basically non-existent.

monica mccue

Limited menu but we love that everyone there was playing game together instead of playing on their phones.

Chris Walker

Lovely spot for a gamer. Plenty of space to play and well organized for RPG, Miniature, Card Games, and Tabletop. Beer list is good and the food too.

Trenton Greener

Cafe Mox is an incredible experience. Warm, helpful, & fun. I'd recommend reserving a room for your next game night!

Laura Zeng

Really great place to hang out with friends. The space is split between the restaurant, the shop area, and the tournament space. I've played board games in both the restaurant and shop spaces. The restaurant is surprisingly good. I remember the grilled cheese and tomato soup being particularly good. Most of the time, I prefer to play games in the shop space. You're allowed to borrow board games and play them with friends (for free). Staff is always friendly and helpful when choosing a game. I will say that the shop space can get a little noisy during busy hours, but I rarely find it disruptive to gameplay.

Matt L

Great place to play games and eat food

Keith Trnka

Love this place - you can grab a drink, some food, and borrow a board game from next door.

Matt Hall

The best board game bar in Seattle. Great ambiance, packed in seating, and a huge selection of board games to pick from next door. Unfortunately is usually full during peak times so expect to need to put your name in for a solid wait time.

Aadish Kotwal

Board games heaven! You can borrow board games from their collection and play while you wait for your turn in the adjoining restaurant and even after! They have a nice collection of games that you can buy too.

Rachel Henry

This is one of my favorite places to go! The staff is great, the games are great, the atmosphere is always welcoming, the food is really good (in my opinion), the ciders that I've tried here so far have all been incredible. All in all I suggest this place to anyone looking for anything from a casual afternoon or evening playing boardgames, to people playing games more intricate that could take hours to play like War Hammer. It's just a nice place to go relax and have fun ^-^

Julia Hustler

Always a great time playing with friends. Food is good and lots of it for the price. Smells like boys who don't wear deoderant when entering in a Saturday afternoon

Bridget Whelan

Pretty cool place. Fun to try out some new games while enjoying a glass of wine

Sarah Whitson

Great game selection! You can check out demo games for free to play in the store, AND they have a decent food and beverage selection, including adult beverages!!

Curtis Keat

Excellent food and coffee, wonderful service.

Swati Makhija

Great places for a group of old or new friends. Large selection of games... with good food and drinks

Illegal Wanderer

Drink and play a game with your friends, it's great!

Karl Sparks

Best place in town for a bite with friends, check out a board game and make yourself comfortable. The nachos are LOADED too.

Scott Wegner

I love to come here and play a board game from their library. The staff all love board games as well and are very helpful in providing game suggestions.

Andrew koltko

Great place to go for food and games, they have bunch of games you can play while there, pus their supply of board, card, and tabletop games and accessories is the best.

Lincoln Bechard

Great way to spend a few hours with friends and not break the bank.

Janet Houtsma

Great game choice. Very good foo!

Kevin Ikuta

An awesome store with a robust library and knowledgeable staff. Their cafe has limited seating particularly since most stay around to play a game. This has only been an issue on a few evenings where the wait was more than an hour. There are plenty of tables outside of the cafe where you can play a game while you wait.

Laurel Sargent

A few great menu items seems to have been rotated out, but they always have great food choices no matter what. Laid back, understanding, helpful people... whether you're looking for a particular type of game to fit your party, or a particular brew to fit your taste. I've had nothing but awesome experiences here.

Jordan Goetz

Small selection of food. Small portion sizes. It is pretty cool they have games to play though.

Gina Rome

THE board game bar of Seattle. Great food and drinks at good prices, and you can stay and play for hours. The staff is friendly and really knows their stuff about tabletop games. I can't say enough good things about Mox!!

Michelle White

Variety of games is top notch! Food is decent. Atmosphere and service is a ten. Beware about parking during the farmers market.

Mary Keating

really cute, great service, friendly staff, good food, and a little store with cute pins!

Amanda Innes

Try the carnitas nachos with toppings on the side -- you won't be disappointed!

Galen Collins

Food, beer, and games: nuff said.

Jeremy Westfall

Awesome place for appetizers and playing games. On the store side, one can borrow an open box from behind the counter and play it in the cafe. Of course, the store has an amazing collection of games for sale.

DeQuan Watson

One of the best gaming stores in the country. Great staff. Fun atmosphere. Good food and drinks in their cafe. Large selection of board games. Lots of events.

Cindy Book

So much fun playing games and snacking from the bar!

Ian K. Hagemann

Great resource but their game library seems smaller and their menu is also worse.

mary silva

Fun joint, meh food, fair beer selection in need of coffee. Go for the board games, go to hang with friends :)

Geoffrey Dodd

Can be long waits, but this place is great

Stephen Burrows

Mox is great! It's a little pricier than some places but that's just to account for people sitting around having fun for a long time, i think. I love it there.

Rachelle Sonneborn

Always and forever the best and most #1 game shop everrrrr

Jai Fuller

I went to play the games. The crew is Awesome.

Terry Love-Lee

Bellue is a stronger location

Elizabeth Smith

I love this place! Board games + tasty food + drinks are a great combination. It does get crowded in the evenings, though, and it can be hard to get a table. They have private rooms you can reserve for a reasonable price; my husband helped to plan a bachelor party there, and this was a great first stop.

Nelson Norsworthy

Great place but hosts are incompetent. Called ahead to find how long wait would be. Response was can't tell you that, have to come in person. Seemed annoyed I was asking. Got there and was told 14 parties ahead of us. Really? The host couldn't have told us that over the phone?

Matt Young

Beautiful game shop/cafe where you can buy or rent board games and play them on the spot with a bunch of friends. Great place to chill out and have a good game and a good meal. Extremely friendly and responsive staff with great vibes. They also are a hub for card games so if you are looking for a duel you'd probably find one here which is awesome.

Megan C

Great place to go with friends! The workers up at the front we're so helpful and made awesome suggestions! We ended up buying the one game we were told to try out, it was hilarious and fun to play! I would say the food is alright, same with the restaurant service! But Will definitely be coming bacj

Uriel McMillan

Cafe mox is a great place to game and enjoy some food or a beverage with friends.

Garrett Clark

It's a wonderful place to eat, drink, and play games with friends. You can buy board games and play them with your friends. Or you can buy various cards and play them with your friends. It's an incredible spot. The only downside of coming here is that it can get pretty busy. But even then it's really not that bad.

River Gillis

Pro tip: the nachos are delicious and feed more than one person.

MissWisprr

A bit on the spendie side with a small selection, but all of it is high quality and delicious. You can also "check out" board and some card games while there, and if you want to purchase it from the attached games store you receive a discount for anything you played that visit.

Roy Pumphrey

Service and food very good. Ceiling fan made it a little chilly.

Alan Dukes

A favorite.

Austin Kukay

Food is super tasty, albeit a little pricey for my college budget unless I'm splitting with someone. Great atmosphere, great food, and all the games. You can check out games for free and they encourage people to play while they eat! They have a lot of options for food and beverage to go along with their extensive game collection too.

Courtney Schneider

Free board games, food, and alcohol! What more could you ask for?

todd torongo

Auto tip of 20% (party of 3) at the cafe is selfishness at a new level. Game space is pretty rad though. Come to play. Walked away feeling like I had been robbed!

Timothy Jones

At least 4 4x4 tables for miniature gaming, plus over 10 more smaller tables for card games, it's pretty sweet.

Kelly J

Food gives some to be desired. The vietnamese sandwich is really bland and definitely deviates significantly from the original recipe. They should perfect the original first before trying to change it.

Valerie Huffman

Met up with a friend while on vacation in Seattle. Got dinner and played games in the Cafe section for a few hours. Service was great, food was great, and the staff in the game store picked out two amazing board games for our group to try, we had a ton of fun. Highly recommend!

Andrew Dahl

I felt that the prices were high, but the model of being right next to a game store and being able to bring the games to play at your table was great. Definitely worth a trip

Nancy James

Perfect way to relax play games have a bite or sip a drank or couple beers

derrick pyle

Game selection is great. Food has improved.

Javan Wang

Great if you love board games, they don't charge cover to play. Food/drinks are nothing special compared to other options in the area.

Chris Beaven

Awesome game room and great cafe! We had tons of fun!

Ed Fonseca

Ton of games and passionate staff. You won't be disappointed for your tabletop and card game needs at all ages.

Max LaChance

Prices are average to above average. Short of a desire to support local, not worth going out of your way for it.

Mikkel Green

If you haven't been to Mox and you like board games and you are reading this, stop reading this and go. It's a great little bar and they let you borrow all the popular games for free. If you play a game while at the bar and love it they will give you a 15% off coupon to buy it from the connected (well appointed) game store. If you have a group of 6+ you can reserve one of the two back party rooms for a modest amount. Food is bar fare but is vegetarian friendly.

Brooke Callen

It's a fun family place or meet up with friends. A little pricey for food quality, but if you want to try new games without buying it's good for food and gaming.

Camper

Always fun! We played Skyfall for a few hours and ate and drank till we were all comatose.

Tyler Haines

Good food bad service!

Adam Field

Good rotating taps and encourage playing games. Can't ask for more.

Matt Branaman

My favorite place in Seattle! Great for Friday night magic, date night, and party's with friends.

Jack McCall

Was told we couldn’t do reservations. No biggie. We showed up early with 5 people and were put in the cue. 2 parties ahead of us. We then waited an hour while sitting at the bar drinking and spending money. Only to find out the person who’s getting the table in front of us was a single person with a reservation.... our party was angry and confused. We left and wont return.

Ankit Rawat

Fun games to enjoy with friends and family

Manpreet Landau

You can eat and play board games. The board games are free to play and it's a fun night out with friends. Plenty of space to play.

Erich

This is a really fun restaurant and board game café! We arrived at peak hour in a Sunday, but were able to get a table after only a few minutes. We enjoyed some great beers from a nice selection while playing a couple of different board games. Staff was very knowledgeable, friendly and passionate about board games, which made getting a good recommendation for a new game a piece of cake! The food is nothing sensational, but it's not half-bad either. I recommend the corn bread or the chili with cornbread. Would go back for sure.

Emily Streeper

Food has improved significantly and is reasonably priced. Overall, it’s a great business model but, service is incredibly slow. Wait staff doesn’t pay close attention to needs of patrons and customer service is definitely not the top priority. When I asked how long the wait would be recently, I was met with ‘I have no idea. But you have 5 minutes to get here after we text you your table is ready or we’ll give it away. ‘ not the most pleasant way to approach that particular question.

Rob Schuster

Maybe the most impressive game store in the state. Though arrive early as it’s a pain to find parking (doubly so if you need handicapped accessible spaces). Additionally there’s a high amount of car prowls in the area so take anything valuable out of your car. It’s also a fantastic spot for corporate events and the coffee drinks are always top notch.

Manuel Olivas

Average food. Decent prices. Great service and great board games selection play while staying.

Chelsea Palmer

Do you love tabletop games? Then go here. But all the games, play all the games, and eat/drink all the things. This is a place built by nerd and for nerds. Love it.

El Wong

Anyone who’s into tabletop games will love this place. They have a great selection of classic and new board games, card games, and role-playing guides and gear to buy. The staff are pretty friendly, they have a couple of extra rooms for events, and the food and drinks in the cafe itself (at least the ones I tried) were decently priced and tasted great. While in the cafe you can also borrow two games at a time to play for free while you’re hanging with friends. They also have free parking, which will be on your right a little past the cafe if the restaurant/store is on your left.

Hannah Ashby

This is by far the best board game store I've ever been to. I'm a board game nerd and am used to drab rooms with plastic foldable tables to play on (who cares when you're there for the games, right?) But this place blows them out of the water. A cafe with food items and alcohol...that you can go there and play their games available for borrow then get 15% off when buying food and drink too. Lots of room for miniatures. A back room for even more activites and group meet ups. Plus private rooms for rent if you want to have your own private dnd sesh. Honestly a gamers paradise!

Tiffany Han

I was visiting from out of state, and I’m surprised! A very large library of games to buy. Ample space. Tables to eat and drink. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Demo tables. A must visit for table top gamers.

Moby N. W.

Love this cafe & store; so many games. Cafe menu is really good.

Celeste Navrkal

The food was pretty good, yet a bit over-priced. Service could have been better; it was good, just not great...

Saptarshi Bhattacharya

Food and drinks are quite average but the fact that they they have a board game shop allowing you to borrow and play is the main attraction of this place. I really wish they improved the overall quality of the food or drinks. I would be coming over a lot more frequently.

Evan Dunn

Games and food. Nerdy games and okay food. But five stars for the concept.

Patrick Walton

Cafe Mox is one of my favorite Seattle hangouts. Whether you are here for food, drinks, games, or a private event you will have a good time. The restaurant has excellent local beers and a good variety of food. My wife and I usually check out a board game from card kingdom while we are there and play after grabbing some snacks. The location may be a bit off the main Ballard drag, but you should definitely make the trek and check it out.

Jessie Mahn

Very fun with good selection of games and great service

Madi Mcdonald

Awesome experience and very cool concept! You can check games out for free while you eat and if you like it, or just want to buy games, you can purchase a new version of it before you leave. The food and service are amazing and the atmosphere is very laid back. I highly recommend the blackberry Italian soda and Mox cheesesteak!

Erik Wright

Good food, fast service

Leigh Momii

Mox is connected to Card Kingdom, the game store. The best part about Mox is that you can check out games from Card Kingdom and bring them into Mox to play while you eat and/or drink. Mox has decently good food and beer. They also have rooms in the back you can rent for a few hours with groups to play games.

Ryan Hansen

This place is always closed when I get there, three times in a row. I live about two hours away from the location, so Card Kingdom is a special dedicated trip that I have to plan out days in advance. I have tried to play Draft, Pokémon League, and Magic there, but for some reason I always arrive at 3:30, when what ever I need is over or closed. During 2017 I had no problems with Cafe Mox, but this year I'm dissatisfied with management and online posted hours not matching the actual store hours. I ordered nothing because they were locking the door as I arrived. The atmosphere is a pack of young hip people. Don't go to Card Kingdom and Cafe Mox unless you live nearby.

Joey Romness

It's a board game geek's paradise. Enough said. The food in the cafe section is also far better then it needs to be. I love it here!

Amol Brahme

Fun place to grab some beers and play some board games. They have excellent food options.

Natalia Kernasovska

Hours spent here eating, sipping beer and playing board games you'll never regret. A lot of fun guaranteed!

Andrew Bennett

Super friendly staff and they have a huge selection of single mtg cards. Having a nice resturant right next to the gaming area is a great idea!

Cedar Cloyd

Love Café Mox. Lots of games to check out and play for free while eating. The waitlist for the restaurant can get quite long, since people can spend hours at a table before leaving. So try and get there before the rush. The attached game store also has tons of room if you just want to play games. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and will help identify a game that perks your interest.

Rick Huang

This place is someone's incredible idea... Located right next to the boarding house, it gives you the perfect opportunity to eat, drink, and play games. The stew I had there was amazing, and the bar was fun to sit at. Tables are huge and perfect for gaming! We need more places like this!

Viet Nguyen

Super fun. Huge selection of games, great food, amazing staff. They don't have a full bar unfortunately but they'll still try to accommodate as best as possible. They made me an alcoholic root beer float which was dangerous and to die for

James Early

A nice cafe connected to a tabletop game store. Bring some friends, borrow a game from the library or play one of your own while enjoying the food and drink. Food is fine, but the selection is limited. Good selection of beer, ale, and ciders on rotation.

Bram Dons-Borreguero

You go to a fun atmosphere bar setting and play boardgames. Really fun unique experience. They have great boardgames that you can take to your table and a huge selection to choose from. Had an interesting set of seasonal beers, as well. Only had appetizers, salads, and sandwiches, and the food wasn't special.

Percy Loli

Very nice crowd. Tons of games. People playing the friendly staff and they have open box for you to try the games. The cafe inside is good too. Definitely will visit again

Devon Menendez

Excellent fun. Also they make great coffee.

Max M

It's really fun to be able to go eat lunch and borrow games from card kingdom next door!

Suzanne Quillian

Often crowded but lots of fun and variety. Good food too

Kelsie Clegg

Best board game cafe ever, and I've been to a lot!

Joshua Osiris

Magic players rejoice.. This is a place to check out. Loved that they have a bar/tavern area which kiddos can join too!

Saul Morales

Very nice game store with plenty of space to play. Also has a cafe. Also the staff was attentive. One of the best hobby game stores I have shopped.

Julian Egolf

Fun place to spend the afternoon. Lots of free-to-play games, no pressure to buy, and helpful recommendations from the staff. We discovered and bought a new game, and we will be returning soon.

Jasmine C

Spacious and wonderful stock of games. Lots of choices for games to try.

McKay Monteiro

Perfect chill date night!

Tyler Schwerdt

If you like games you should be here

Bridger Lewis

Great drink selection, wonderful interior design and decoration, and great food. Will definitely visit again.

Cody Harris

Good food, eclectic drink menu and games to play! Mox is the best example of this business model I have ever seen. It's not just for stereotypical "nerds". This place will be enjoyed by all! Perfect for trying out new games before you buy them.

Igor Glinsky

Great place

Nicholas Tylek

This place is fantastic and has an amazing assortment of gaming supplies.

Matt Seger

Love this place. Game selection is great. Tap list is pretty good. Their nachos are amazing.

Matt Records

Where else can you drink beer and terraform Mars?

Shay Moore

Best friendly local game store, hands down. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, amazing selection packed into a small space, and delicious food with a robust gaming library. Other cities model their game cafes after this spot for good reason!

Jared Greiner

Can be a long wait mid afternoon or evening. Get there right at noon or slightly before on the weekends if you want to grab a table and a popular game. Decent food. Nothing special. Love how they let you hang out for as long as you want though. We just played Terraforming Mars for the first time and spent 6 hours at a table with six people.

Muhammad Danish Farooq

Nice spot to play board games with friends and enjoy beer

Clint Densham

Loved it and the kids had a great time too!

Rich Fought

Great food, great service and lots of games!

Jen Yonit Diaz

Fun places to go with friends either to bring your own game or borrow one on hand. The staff is super helpful and knowledgeable.

Ron Noche

Helpful staff passionate about games. So much to do and see. Will definitely come back!

Dillon Brown

Best place for games and food

Alex Vane

I know people who drive from Bellingham to hang out at Mox. Awesome place.

Ali Nelson

I wish I could of tried everything on the menu! Delish.

Elise Parse

Great place to grab some grub and let your nerd flag fly!

Jonathan Waggoner

Awesome spot to find and play board and card games of all kinds. They've got food and drink too, so bring your friends and hang out for a while. There's games to borrow for free too, but the selection is slim. I'd give a full 5 stars if they'd expand their loaner library, even if they charged a daily or monthly membership for borrowing.

Matthew Buck

100% !!!!! I cannot give this place "32 stars"... But if I could, this place would get 35 of 32 stars!......

Malavika Hebbar

Lovely place if you enjoy board games and food

Nicole Solano

Always love coming to Mox for boardgames. I think their nachos and smores dessert is really tasty. You can get a coupon if you try a game and then end up buying it. Also they sell some nice D&D miniatures you can paint, and they're a good price!

Seff Liddell

The best! We rented a room and played table top games while our toddlers played on the floor with toys. The rooms have doors you can close to keep the kids/noise in. The food, beer, and Mead are all tasty and the staff is welcoming and friendly. If you're looking for a great gaming spot look no further, but prepare to wait as they don't rush people to leave since most are playing games.

Marissa Braun

Knowledgeable staff. Good food. Discounts if you play the game you purchase. This place is great!

John Wang

One of the best places to play board games or Magic or whatever have you ! Family friendly, and there's a bar to get drinks if you're thirsty. You can't bring in food from outside, though, so keep that in mind. We love this place !!

Creighton Watley

Bellevue Mox is even better but you have to go to the eastside. This is as good as it gets for retail board and tabletop games.

Zachary Wegner

Fun place to play games and a have a drink with friends

Abhro Pal

Fantastic place for board game enthusiasts. The food is decent. Great selection of games.

Phil Saracino

Only played board games. Food and drink is only available in one area. Had a good time despite not getting a beer.

Maral Esfahanpoor

I love this place. So many board game.

Oremo Ochillo

Board game night at Cafe Mox, let me summarize it: First question is what board games do you want to play: If you think you are going to be playing monopoly, life, risk or battleship you are mistaken.Instead this place is a packed house of people playing games that would be hardly considered mainstream. But of course that is the charm of this place.Alternative game and alternative people. Love it. Great for people watching in addition to playing games. It's a huge space, in a great location in downtown Ballard. Like all other spots in Ballard parking can be somewhat of a challenge but that is to be expected. They do sell beer either in the glass or b y the pitcher. The booths are large and comfortable and great for playing games for hours on end. The space is huge. I mean really really big for Ballard area. They sell beer by the pitcher. Once you are done playing games, if you want to go to a more traditional bar or lounge the Shelter Lounge is just across the street.

Matt Mulder

Great place to play games and socialize with friends. Try out board games before buying them. It gets busy here, and sometimes you'll have to wait for a table even though there are a lot of tables.

Keri Taylor

Love the combo of grub and games. Oh, and you can enjoy it boozamafied, too.

Matt Knezevich

It is game heaven! Mox set the standard for what gaming stores can be, and they never fail to impress. They have a massive collection of games for all ages, public space a calendar absolutely stuffed with events, and some of the nicest staff you'll meet anywhere. Huge props and thanks to the kindest of folks working there that helped me make sense of how to get started painting mini's - thanks to your enthusiasm and stellar advice, I'm now enjoying a wonderful new hobby!

jenna dietrich

I love the variety of games that they have and the staff is super awesome, The food prices could be less, especially when with kids is all

Sean Cook

Awesome store, great environment.

Lisa Zhang

It was great! We got to play a board game while eating some really delicious food and you get a coupon for the board game that you played after.

Sharon Blackford

I love Cafe Mox; I used to live in Seattle and I always spend an evening there whenever I'm back. The staff is helpful, the selection is broad, and you're likely to run into gamer friends there. I wear their hoodie with pride.

Ryan Townsend

It's got board games, it's got nachos, it's got beer, it's got a chandelier made out of magic cards. Just go there, you'll always have fun.

Sylvain Niles

Cafe Mox is pretty amazing! They have a great drink selection and the food is fantastic. Being able to check out games from Card Kingdom is icing on the cake! Sadly have to hold back one star because the bench seats are so uncomfortable your feet start go numb after an hour. With how popular this place is I dont know why they haven't invested in replacing the pads.

Kristen McCurdy

Food is ok, high priced, but worth the great environment to play and relax and not get hungry or thirsty

Joe Tobiason

One of the best gems in Seattle. The food is fine and beers are reasonable (though they do have a really good selection). But, it all comes together with the ability to play games, have conversation and have fun. There is just a fun, happy, competitive and joyous atmosphere as soon as you walk in the door. Go on a Mon-Wed, just because it can get busy.

Tim McBroome

Great service and games

Mike E

Great food and drinks, including mead! Connected to Card Kingdom, and you can bring free games back to play while you're there. Only docked a star because they're almost always busy and they don't take reservations, making group outings almost impossible.

David Baggett

Fun games and solid food. The food is slightly overpriced but worth it for the atmosphere and friendly staff
