Great coffee, bagels, sandwiches, service and enough space so you don't feel hemmed in. A good place to meet for conversation or laptop work. And some entertainment in the evenings.
Lot's of space, good coffee, good vibe.
This is our favorite coffee (and more!) place. All of the staff are friendly and take time to get to know us. We call ZaTa "our neighborhood living room." It is that relaxed.
After leaving the Brewery Cafe (I was the sardine packed in the square box) due to it being packed of people and too small to wait for a seat, I randomly came across Zata cafe. So glad I did bc it's big! Awesome homey vibe and great LATTE! yes singular bc I only had one latte. ;) If the place was busy, it's still big enough to hold a good amount of people. Blogging work, here I go! It's in Forest Hill Ave too. Not too far from downtown.
Great little local coffee shop south of the James. Good sandwiches. This looks like a great spot to work remotely, with plenty of outlets for plugging in a laptop and phone. Dinging this one star because the iced coffee I ordered wasn't tasty, no matter how much I doctored it. The coffee tasted like it had been burnt.
A few months ago, I visited Taza and a young girl made me a latte and served my toasted cinnamon raisin bagel (which was toasted to perfection). I was really pleased because she was cheerful and really patient while I spent several minutes deciding what I wanted to order. This made me really like coming to Taza; however, a few days ago, I visited Taza and I was greeted by a man I believe named John who rushed the customers in front of me to quickly place their order. When it was my turn, I approached him and ordered another latte and cinnamon raisin bagel. I requested it toasted again, expecting it to be just like it was last time. After I placed my order, John knew the people behind me and spent several minutes conversing with them as they placed their order. It took about 10 minutes for him to finally start making my order. When it was finally ready, I was very disappointed. The latte was watered down and the bagel was half black. John was supposed to serve me cream cheese and when I asked him, he was rude by saying that he'd have to charge me for something I already paid for. No more Taza for me.
Can’t say enough nice things about Cafe Zata! They are friendly, the food and drinks are great, and it’s such a good neighborhood spot.
I love this place. Staff are always friendly, the coffee is affordable and tasty, and there is live jazz music on Sundays. How can you go wrong with that? Plus, two floors of places to hang out ensures that you'll find a place to get work done .I come here a few times a month.
Not a fan, everything tasted stale and old, coffee drink was served less than luke warm, potatoes served cold , salsa definitely “Old” refrigator smell and taste, this was a strike 3 for me.
Very spacious. Long waits. Understaffed.
Best coffee in town. Bold flavor, not bitter.
I had the Westover sub, w/ horseradish on the side. The sauce wasn't for me, but the chill atmosphere and the awesome people that work here was.
First impressions: this place is great. We came here on a Friday around 11 and it was so relaxing. The employees were so kind and considerate. Perfect vibes! Great place to get work done too, we saw computer chairs and tables upstairs and there were nice tables and a comfy couch and board games downstairs. The food was amazing and priced well. If I have a bad day at least I had a wonderful morning ☕️
Great food, and service!
Very hip shop, nice for working or meeting with a group of people
Cozy and tasty.
I LOVE THIS PLACE. everything is fresh. I like the new down town location it’s right across from my Apartment. The staff is very friendly and eager to serve I love the upstairs dining and the in home look. I would eat here everyday if I could. The bean burger is delicious, the breakfast is excellent as well. Can’t really go wrong with anything on the menu.
I don't like it
Quiet comfortable atmosphere, friendly staff, excellent lunch options
Good food, slow service
Really cool cafe. Nice ambience. Sells local art. Good sandwiches and coffee.
Awesome food and great atmosphere!
Nice little coffee shop in a nice neighborhood. It's my go-to place for meeting people in that neck of the woods. Parking's no big deal and there's a comic book store down the street. Jazz on Sunday's. What's not to like?
I love to write there, eat there, drink coffee and tea there, and just hang out there. The staff is PHENOMENALLY kind and diligent and the food is delicious. I love any of the egg and cheese sandwiches/quesadilla, The Jahnke (grilled cheese for grown ups), and the black bean burger. Oh...and every pastry or donut. Best atmosphere I have found for writing.
Simple honest food in a welcoming casual atmosphere. Love the breakfast sandwiches and fruit cups.
Came in to grab a quick sandwich. I ordered a roast beef sandwich and it took over 35 minutes to receive my order. The cafe wasn't busy.. it was nearly empty. I had no communication from the staff so after 15 minutes I walked up and asked where my order was. One employee told me that their cook the night before didn't do prep. I wait another 15 and asked another employee and he went back and retrieved my order. Both employees were very apathetic. Horrible service.
As they find their own new identity they have only gotten better. Great value as always.
Love to hang here and work. Great donuts (my fav is the blueberry), amazing fries. Cozy atmosphere with lots of space.
Nice tea selection from Carytown Teas. Get the Patricia blend. The breakfast sandwiches leave a little to be desired. I just wish they melted the cheese all the way. The seating here is nice and spread out, so it makes for a great place to get work done or hold your smaller meetings. Look out for the sign because it's not easily noticed from the road.
Great breakfast and beer! The prices are reasonable.
My uke group played a two-hour show here in an early-evening timeslot outside of normal hours. The staff was super, the space is great (nice variety of seating options, high ceiling, open and airy), and the food was awesome. I absolutely loved the fresh-cut fries, which tasted just like the ones my mom used to make.
Great place to sit and eat especially when u have to study for exams!!!
Love the place.
Nice little shop.
Great iced coffee!
Best Chai Latte. Great atmosphere.
Best omelette I've had in a long time. Great flavors and not rediculously huge. Vety fresh and French.
Phenomenally good breakfast sandwiches.
I tried this place for the first time today and wil was definitely be back. Excellent food, friendly service and reasonably priced. I had the best burger there and the fries are freshly made! So good!
Good gas
I love this café. Friendly artsy atmosphere that appeals to families, students and entrepreneurs. Lots of outlets for laptops, and big windows for sunny meet ups. Great affordable menu.
good coffee and good atmosphire
Great service. Lots of space. Very community focused. The donuts are great, and the Sunday breakfast specials are amazing too!
Great neighborhood coffee shop in Westover Hills.
Dry food. Waste of money
The staff is very friendly, great environment. Love the breakfast sandwichs.
Nice space. Saw a fun band and had some snacks.
This is a nice quiet coffee shop right near all things Forrest Hill. The staff is always friendly and welcoming while making some of the most delicious coffee ive ever had. Always some event scheduled for the week, with a weekly jazz session held on Sundays and cheap tacos or nachos Wednesday through Saturday. I just moved to the area from Texas and this is my new 2nd home.
Having completed many coding/programming assignments for class while enjoying the delicious coffee and treats they serve here at Cafe Zata, I would say that this spot is one of the highlights of my Richmond Virginia experience since I moved here last year.
Delicious sandwiches and coffee.
The greatest place for coffee, breakfast, lunch, fresh donuts, work meetings, studying, and I can go on forever. I have come here to do work, to relax, when I am in a rush and Everytime the experience is absolutely wonderful. They also go to the Forest Hill Farmers market every Saturday
Very helpful staff willing to change up menu items to work around dietary issues. Large space offers plenty of room for people to work on laptops, sit in a corner and people watch, or socialize with friends. Stage big enough for the musicians with plenty of room for a big audience. Enjoyed the artwork and the fact that regulars can bring their own mug, and keep it there, for discounted refills. Enjoyed the jazz on Sundays. A relaxing way to spend a Sunday morning with friends or the newspaper.
Love the atmosphere... It's like the Central Perk of Westover Hills.
Great local spot for a cup of joe, some munchies, or a glass of wine.
Great atmosphere and great coffee. Definitely a solid go-to cafe on the Southside of RVA.
I am addicted to their bagel sandwiches and lattes. This is an amazing space! Great for relaxing with a friend over coffee or hosting a small business meeting in their upstairs space. They now have beers on tap and Gelato ice cream too!
Casual Coffee Joint
Friendly staff, good coffee, excellent donuts, and loved hearing the local band.
Good venue for casual music. At the event I attended there was beer, food, and ice cream.
Lattes and potatoes were cold.
Quality of food and drink is excellent. Great vibe and attentive staff...
Great food and espresso, and maybe my favorite atmosphere in rva.
Real food, the burgers are made from real ground beef, they are not frozen patties. The bacon cheese fries are awesome, very tasty, can be served with a side of sour cream if so desired. I have not found another small business that has the quality of food the I have found here. Will drive the 30 or so miles from Lanexa, VA to get their food any day.
Great coffee, food and hot chocolate.
Really enjoyed the space, the food and the awesome service. They have live music, wonderful lunch specials, really tasty food and an amazing and very affordable thing called bottomless cup of coffee. Their hours are very convenient and the location is great.
Coffee and donuts and beer. What more could you ask for?
Cafe Zata is the best coffee shop in Central VA, few come close. The place is large and sunny with a very high ceiling and small mezzanine. The coffee and food are great, craft beers, live music on a regular basis, nice staff, super family friendly with lots of room for strollers and toddlers, and good parking. Again, excellent coffee, not all coffee shops have good dark roast. Brooke Saunders
Best coffee in Richmond. Uses locally roasted coffee - Blanchard's - and serves breakfast omelets, sandwiches and House-made doughnuts!
Cool spot. Everyone is friendly and the food is always on point.
Good, reasonably priced coffee coffee shop
Great jazz trio Sunday a.m. Good coffee. Good for family.
Great coffee and food - awesome atmosphere to get some work done. Looking forward to coming back for some of their events!
Slow service but great coffee and atmosphere. Prices are reasonable and staff was friendly. Loved the live music.
Nice place to have a cup of coffee, enjoy a bagel and meet with friends or business contacts.
Very cozy and cook coffee
Great coffee, donuts, sandwiches and beer. We frequently rent the meeting room upstairs.
The food and the service are what makes me come back for breakfast every time.
The service was slow. It doesn't take 10 minutes to make a latte. The employees were rude. The place might seem clean, but once you really look around, it was dirty. The place hasn't been swept in weeks. The there were dirt and spider-web patches. Avoid this at all cost.
Love this place - great coffee and food, relaxing atmosphere, very friendly. I come here as t least 1x per week.
Good bagel, bad coffee and a grumpy server.
I found out about Taza because of the monthly Bluegrass Jam (Third Thursday at 7...come on out!). Now I stop in whenever I am in that part of town. Great coffee and friendly service. Wish my neighborhood had a coffee shop like this (instead of a chain).
Love it
Great latte and donuts
Love love Taza! I am a coffee nut and it is by far my favorite place to go. They also have amazing egg and cheese sandwiches. My boyfriend and I get excited for the weekends so we can go. It is a Westovers Hills go-to for sure. All the workers have been great and John has been friendly and remembered my name since day one. Very friendly local place. Also, they have the best priced, fresh cold cuts I have seen. We always get our deli meats/cheese here.
I had a fabulous time here. A friend of my has been telling me about this coffee shop for so long and she finally took me. The atmosphere is pleasant and calming and almost quaint. We walk up to the counter while I am appreciating the room and we are greeted by The-Man-Behind-The-Counter (I wish I got his name). He did not rush us at all and he even gave us several samples of the ice cream even though he knew that we would not buy any. My friend and I both ordered plain coffee and he was very friendly and willing to have a conversation with us. Once we got out coffee we headed over to the table facing the big window and we stayed talking for about 3 hours because neither of us wanted to leave.
The food is really great and the coffee is amazing
Awesome quality food/drinks, ambiance was good but the place needs paint reeeally bad & staff were being lazy. it was a little messy, tables were dirty, napkins & a crumbs on the floor...looked like cookie monster just left. I tipped 20% it was slow & they called out my name for me to come get my order rather than bringing it to me.
I went in and a man named John made my latte about a couple of months ago. His was the rudest person I have ever met. I asked him what was his favorite and all he could do was give me a, "If you don't know what you like than why are you in here?" Reply. He seemed like he had never worked in customer service before in his life!!! When I started asking about the chocolates, he rolled his eyes. Obviously my business isn't enough for him. I don't know if it's because I wasn't dressed in my normal attire or what, but he treated me like I was a lowlife. About a month later I went in with my wife. I warned her about how bad the service was, but she wanted to see for herself. But when we arrived, there was a young lady behind the counter. She seemed very eager to please and answer all of our questions about the pastries and chocolates. IF I WERE YOU, I WOULD CHECK TO SEE WHO IS WORKING WHEN YOU COME IN THE DOOR, IF IT'S A MAN, THEN TURN AROUND AND RUN!!!!!!
This is a really cool coffee shop with a great Vibe! Seems to cater to a lot of different types of people. Good reasonable breakfast that you feel like you're getting the value for the dollar
The oasis I badly needed today.
An open, spacious environment, but instead of feeling agorophobic, there's a sense of coziness to this place. I came for an early lunch. Feeling indecisive, the which the workers were quick to chip in on what their favorite menu item was. I'm glad I took their advice because the brat was delicious (and not to mention, about the cheapest thing on their menu). In addition to lunch foods, there's also a full breakfast menu, plenty of pastries (including homemade doughnuts), and a good 8 craft beers on tap! It's quiet enough that I feel like I could work on stuff all day in here. If I were still a student, I would definitely make this my place to come and study when campus life gets too distracting. Just from glancing around, it seems like enough tables are near electric outlets, so it's perfect for bringing your laptop out.
Hidden gem on Forrest Hill. Love this place. Great food and service!
Really nice coffee shop with great food and coffee and a selection of tasty craft beers.
Very limited seating but has a really great vibe the poet's are off the chain I would recommend this place but I would also recommend that you get there early if you want a good seat
Good prices and good food.
Great coffee and food, unbeatable price, overall good atmosphere for any time of the day. I love their brunch specials
Great chill atmosphere
This place has so much potential. We love the atmosphere and enjoy hanging out here, but the staff is always overwhelmed and the service is disorganized and lacking.
My favorite coffee is here. The nevermore blend is the top tier dark roast.
Great place to hear local music
Great environment!
Home made doughnuts....OMG. died and went to paradise. I have no doubt they will be served in heaven.
Fun coffee shop with live music.
I ordered one of their frozen coffees. It was ok. Plenty of seating, including a nice soft couch to sit on. It looked like there was a decent selection of coffees and food available; however, it looked like there was a lack of choices when it came to their teas . The customer service clerk was friendly and helpful. My only suggestion is that they should have asked me if there was anything else like to order after I made my coffee selection. That could have been opportunity to peak my interest to order something else. Oh well, maybe they just forgot.
Had a great time sharing my poetry
Love this place!
Location is a little weird. But the shop is very spacious. Could see myself sitting down to work here for a few hours. Not anything that will blow your mind.
The food from the deli is good.
Microwaved sandwiches and a weird smell. That about sums it up. I've never been to a coffee shop that doesn't offer you a bag or napkins with to go food, napkins while dining in. On the last and probably final try there I ordered a bagel with cream cheese and was brought a bagel with no cream cheese and no napkin. I ordered two donuts and had to go get them because they weren't brought out. The girl was very confused as to what to do with them. As in put them on a plate, maybe even a napkin also? I've ordered bagel sandwiches in the past and they're microwaved, wrapped in foil and handed to you at the counter. No bag, again no napkins, no offering of condiments or salt/pepper. Oh, and the smell; if my review hasn't turned you off and you do visit you'll see what I mean. Almost like something caught on fire once and it still lingers
GREAT breakfast sandwiches, in house made donuts, and Sunday brunch specials.
Friendly staff, spacious, casual atmosphere. Great neighborhood coffee shop. Popular for small business meetings and families, as well.
Comfortable, quiet "living room" character. Delicious sandwiches and good coffee.
Best coffee shop in the neighborhood. Prices are great, lots of space. It's a great spot to sit and work or have lunch with the fam.
I like it. Relaxed atmosphere, friendly service and good food and drinks.
Great atmosphere and food. Definitely will come back again.
Very friendly staff.
An extremely cozy and quaint cafe, with a quiet yet welcoming atmosphere. I've been here a few times back when I temporarily lived around this area, and it's a very nice place. I used to visit this cafe every time after I hung out/visited Forest Hill Park. It's a very nice place to grab a drink and/or a bite of food and warm up. I've also been to one of their Open Mic Poetry Nights; it was a very pleasant and wonderful experience where I read out a poem of mine. I received excellent feedback and heart-warming compliments and encouragements. Great place overall: 5 out of 5 stars!
Great relaxing atmosphere with plenty of seating and cozy nooks. The coffee was delicious and the food options are extensive. The barista was friendly and knowledgeable. Five stars all around - I’m excited to have this cafe in my neighborhood!
Excellent coffee, friendly service, spacious relaxing atmosphere and no pretense. The availability of La Michoacana ice cream and Dixie Donuts don't hurt my feelings either.
Lovely neighbor coffee shop. Great place for work away from home.
Chill cafe with good music calendar especially jazz brunch Saturday mornings
Sweet Lord! Best cup of coffee (macchiato) I've ever had.
Great place to get a coffie in the morning and even have good lunch/diner food
Great coffee, service is good
Great ambiance and selection of beer. I had a sandwich and some donuts. Everything was delicious and the service was fantastic!
What a great place to just pull over and have a coffee and maybe a snack. Of course you'll have trouble picking the snack. From donuts to ice cream to sandwiches. They've got alot of variety and everything tastes good. I'm a big coffee drinker and the today's they have are delicious. My favorite thing about Zara is there's plenty of space to move around. Comfortableness places to sit and take that needed break. Awesome place !
Nice little shop to catch a bite
Beautiful spacious building with exquisite food and awesome staff. Affordably priced too! Bring your friends
Great coffee, best sandwich I've ever had in a cafe. Relaxed atmosphere. Back when Stories Comics was still open, these two together were my favorite way to spend an afternoon.
My mom and I come here every Thursday for breakfast, we love you guys! Great staff, great art featured every week and comfy home-y feel. Keep up the good work, guys!
Perfect for getting some work done. Usually they have performers and they are great! Just a good vibe :)
Live music and coffee.
Cafe Zata is such a nice spot to have in the neighborhood. Good coffee, great food, and the staff is always helpful and friendly. Check it out, you won't be disappointed!
Cozy. welcoming. Great coffee and service! RVA staple that is tucked into the Westover Hills neighborhood.
Loved coming here for breakfast when I visited Richmond! Would definitely recommend to visitors and will definitely be visiting again.
Great sandwiches and coffee. Live music during nights and weekends. Sit on the couch and read a book while you enjoy this quaint neighborhood spot.
Super nice!
This place is super cute. The staff here are super friendly and overall the place has really good vibes. The atmosphere is absolutely amazing, the natural light and high ceiling just really make the vibe great. When I was there I got an unsweetened ice tea and the salted caramel ice cream and if was absolutely fabulous. It was one of the best ice creams I've had in a while. This place just has a really nice laid-back feel . I would definitely recommend Zata.
First of all, great staff, friendly and helping. Wonderful coffee, and good food. My second office!
My favorite coffee shop. The staff is very nice, the owner is a regular guy and down to earth.
I've been going here for about a year on the way to work some mornings, they've always been friendly and I'm in and out in no time. I prefer these guys 10 to 1 over the other coffee shop down Forest Hill. Happy to see that they are moving into a larger space downstairs and are going to have a small produce market added to it.
Great meeting place for small group (3 to 6 people) plus wifi, soft seating, large tables, great natural light. Be sure to come early because on limited adjacent parking and the moderate crowds who enjoy this neighborhood spot.
Best cafe in Richmond. Great staff, great food and great atmosphere.
Great atmosphere to do work with fast Wi-Fi and bottomless coffee. Food was great too.
Zata has great food. The omelets are light and delicious with many options of cheese and veggies. There are many sandwiches and I've been happy with them all. My daughter's favorite is the black bean. They have music every weekend and share their space with the community for meetings and events. It's a wonderful place!
Great spot! Good coffee and pastries. Had a coffee date there and was quiet and nice. Waitress left us alone to make googly eyes at each other.
The only thing stopping this from being a 5 star review is the clientele. They are a bunch of hipsters, yuppies, and former hippies from the sixties. The live music was terrible. The coffee, however, is amazing.
