Coffee and whiskey. What's not to like!?! I was here on a Friday morning for a meeting. So no whiskey this time. I had a latte, that was crafted with care. It looked like a pineapple design in the foam. Pretty neat. The barista, was so friendly. She introduced herself to me and checked on us several times. I ended up getting a coffee once my latte was done and it was just as good. Actually have another meeting there tomorrow so let's see what they do with the foam art. I have heard that the food is very good but haven't eaten there yet. Going to try it for brunch one of these Sunday mornings.

OVER PRICED! One small "fat joe" coffee, which is just coffee with butter, and one breakfast burrito totaled $19.44. There was an added $2.56 included gratuity that I don't understand when it was ordered to go. They even have an optional additional gratuity line just in case that did seem adequate. I've yet to see a gratuity option at McDonald's for them to pour me a cup of coffee and hand me an egg McMuffin, let alone an included gratuity. The burrito was nothing special and the coffee was good but $6-$7 for a small good. No way in hell will I go back to this place and I'm advising anyone else to try McDonald's instead. At least they are quick with your order.

Wonderful coffee shop with a great sense of community. They serve Three Ships Coffee (the best coffee in the area) and a variety of delicious food items. They also have an extensive stock of whiskies at reasonable prices.

What a great little spot. I had the Avocado Toast and it was delicious....didn't know you could jam pack it with so much flavor. A different take on the Avacado toast and I liked it. I also got a Pour Over that helped me get through some boring paperwork lol. They have free fast wifi and great spots to just sit down enjoy a cup and get some work done. Over all the atmosphere was neat, love all the wood and decor. Staff was very friendly and patient with me while I decided what to get.

American Brew has a nice ambience. The selection of coffee is nice, and they make a good cup of pour over coffee. Customer service is excellent. The barista/cashier went out of her way to help me. I ordered in and felt very relaxed in their dining area. They had country music playing softly and the seating was quite comfortable. I ordered the Brewrrito breakfast burrito. It was delicious! It had a good Smokey and meaty flavor. I would definitely order from this place again!

This place is an EXCEPTIONAL experience! It is a hobby of mine to explore new coffee shops. I have many favorites, but this definitely just set the bar a little higher! The entire vibe of the place is awesome! The young lady who helped me, I wish I got her name, long, dark hair, very sweet and outstanding customer service! She immediately welcomed me and asked if I had ever been before, she then walked me through the menu setup and offerings, and I asked for some recommendations of her favorites. I chose a Cinnamon & Honey Latte and breakfast burrito and thoroughly enjoyed both! I would dare say it was The Best Latte I've ever had. I was literally sad when my cup was empty, lol. Go check out this gem, you will want to return again and again! Thank you for such a wonderful experience on my first visit to Virginia Beach!

Great little get away for a quick coffee, an adult beverage, snack or brunch. 3 beers on tap, lots of spirits, and java. Live music in Saturday and Sundays 10 to 1 PM. It's a small place with minimal parking. Great vibes and a friendly staff.

I used to be a regular at AB. Probably went there 3-4 times per week. After developing some close friendships with the staff, it became apparent that they aren't treated with respect from the owner. As of this review in Feb of 2019, the entire staff of American Brew has quit, largely due to issues with pay and respect from the owner. It doesn't matter how cozy a coffee shop, restaurant, or bar is when every single person that works there walks out. You can't fix a toxic work environment. It's a wonderful little coffee shop with some excellent quick brunch food, but I'm sad to say that I'll be taking my business elsewhere. For those looking for a similar experience in the area sans booze, I recommend Lynnhaven Coffee.

Love this place! Walked in on a Sunday morning to live music and a friendly staff of Baristas. The Dirty Chai Latte tasted great and was well presented. I ordered the Avocado toast (with egg and bacon) and it was delicious!

We have wanted to visit American Brew for a long time. We don't live close, but decided to make a special trip today. It was wildly disappointing. It took over 30 minutes to get a latte and 2 decaf pour overs and there was one customer in front of us who ordered one drink. The latte was cold. The decor and ambiance was nice but we won't be returning.

The staff could use an attitude adjustment but the avocado toast and coffee were incredible. My best friend and I had regular brewed coffee with churro, cinnamon, and honey flavoring. My husband had a regular coffee. We had a side of bacon and a brewrrito. My daughter had a grape goodness juice and the ohel yeah cherry oat bar. We watched an amazing performance by Harrison Bounds. I also had a single espresso with steamed breve. It was not as good as a regular coffee which they actually make by doing a pour over into a airpot.

Great ambience and style for relaxing by yourself or an intimate gathering. They brew Three Ships coffee - their cappuccino is one of the best in Hampton Roads. I'm excited to try their cold brew. I hope they start brewing iced tea and bring in more pastries - it'll be our new go-to coffee shop.

Awesome local coffee and whiskey bar! They have delicious coffee beverages that can be ordered with or without a shot of whiskey. They also have a menu of signature cocktails in addition to baked goods and food items from their full kitchen. (The American Lemonade is my favorite!) American Brew also hosts local musical talent regularly.

I may have just gone on an off day, but my experience wasn’t horrible nor memorable in the positive. I chose a pour over, which had a suspect bean choice. Taste was fine, but definitely more on the drip side of brightness and quality. The breakfast hash was pretty good on the food side. Was there long enough to go for round 2, a mocha and a slice of cake. The mocha was prepared well, decent espresso flavor. The slice of cake unfortunately was stale and almost impossible to fork, much less eat. I ended up throwing it away. It’s a great space and has a lot of potential. Will visit again and try different things.

Very relaxed atmosphere. The decor is great, and it feels like a coffe shop, but you can get just a class of whiskey and sit down. O am only in town visitng, but if I lived here I think this place would be my escape. Everyone was friendly, and it was really just an overall nice experience.

This place is great, I've been there twice now and plan on going back. They have a great coffee selection although I usually go for the whiskey drinks after all that's what they're all about there. They have 3 beers on tap for those not looking for whiskey or caffeine. It's normal to see couples on dates and students studying so the atmosphere is really relaxed. The bar tender whose name starts with a W...(I think) He has great conversation and is very well traveled so you don't feel lonely when you go there by yourself. They are open to reservations including the whole place for events.

Went to this coffee shop twice. Both times the food has come out excellent and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. It seemed that the staff cared about their job, the quality of the food put out, and how the customers were treated. This is a very relaxing, laid back coffee shop. I will probably return, no issues observed at this time.

I would have given five stars but there are little touches that need to be revisited. Finish the painting, deep clean the corners and vents, etc. the little things that get overlooked once you get in the full swing of being open. Love this joint. The young lady behind the counter is too cool. She always has a pleasant attitude and is very tentative to her customers. The cappuccinos are spot on and so is the whiskey. They now also have beer choices along with food. Just a great place to see a great smile and kickback with your friends.

From what I can tell, the food and drinks are pretty good. A little pricey. The only real complaint that I have is that it is FREEZING in there. Multiple people were complaining about how cold it was in there on multiple occasions. Turn the heat on :)

Sunday morning live music sets up this cafe for a great atmosphere. Enjoyed some tasty iced coffee and a morning hash bowl. I have to say this was delicious and very filling. Only thing I would change is using a little less thyme as it was overpowering some bites. Overall, great little cafe on Shore Drive.

So many good things to say about this place. The atmosphere is among my favorite of all the coffee shops I've been to. Relaxing setting, great music selection, nice variety of seating options (couch, squishy chairs, tables, and bar-seating). The service is always friendly and quick. The food is amazing. I have worked in several coffee shops and frequent local coffee shops, and among those I've been to, American Brew has perhaps the best espresso I've had. This is the perfect place to get some work done, meet up with some friends, or just relax and enjoy some quality coffee and food. No complaints (:

Very clean and nice location to Lynhaven River boat launch and Lesner Bridge walking path. Service is slow because there aren't enough baristas. The baristas socialize too much which also makes for slow service. I moved onto the Sugar Shack after two slow/poor service experiences.

This is a great little, local coffee spot. Tucked away at the base of the lesner bridge. If you're not careful you will drive right by it. They do offer beer and a limited selection of hard drinks. I would not say it's a bar, but you can get drinks. The menu is limited as far as food, light linch, or a morning pastry is perfect. It's a touch expensive, but at least your supporting a local business.

After 5 min of standing at the counter we finally got our order taken, with no prices on the drink menu we were supprised to find out that 2 cups of coffee and a breakfast burrito came out to be over 32 dollars (with the 18% tip they add to every order) the food was average at best with cold cheese and un seasoned eggs and the coffee tasted like it was made from recycled grounds. I will never come back as a local and would say to any tourrists your money is better spent at Starbucks

Just walked in at 0635. Sign says, "Open when we're here." Lady behind the bar stacking glasses ignored me when I greeted her with a smile and, "Good morning." She walked in the back without even answering me and didn't come back. Waited a minute... nothing. Soooo, guess who walked out without even being greeted. Can't speak to the coffee or food as I couldn't get any. Funny as your little sign may be, if the door is unlocked don't treat your customers as if you haven't had YOUR coffee yet either. Won't be back.
