I was invited by a local pastor friend to join him for coffee while I was there visiting. The coffee was great but the Maple Roll with the coffee was awesome. Matter of fact I bought two more to take with me. Karen and the staff were very pleasant and kind. There was plenty of room we didn’t feel rushed to leave, it made for a very nice meeting place. Now I know why Pastor Dan makes this a regular hangout. I will be back when in the area again.
Love it! Great coffee! Nice little bakery attached with super tasty treats. Never miss a chance to stop here.
Amazing coffee and extremely friendly love this place for meetings and to show off their one of a kind style
Very excellent coffee
Outstanding service..really good coffee!
On a recent stop in town, my eye caught the "Catalyst Coffee Bar" sign and I just had to visit. Upon entering, I was immediately taken by the atmosphere. The beautiful brick walls, intimate seating and open space was a wonderful surprise. The caring owner was engaging and welcoming. Oh...and the coffee...is the best in St. Albans!
This is the BEST coffee joint in the region, even compared with those in Burlington. I know beans and I am amazed by the magic they make with them here. Plus they have wonderful fun pastries and other beverages like maple limeade - whodathunk?! Karen and Kevin are warm and engaging, always providing personalized service, and they welcome everyone to hang out in their comfy digs. Awesome find!
Best coffee around and an awesome bakery in the same place. Everyone is so nice and enjoy relaxing here.
Great Cappucino & very nice, friendly & informative staff! Talked with me about different types of coffee & tea ideas & flavors to try since I'd voiced my challenges with a bitter aftertaste from my coffee lately! Nice atmosphere to go hang out & get some work done also. Great furniture to relax with a friend or laptop. Nice bakery in the back also.
Best local coffee I have had in a long time. Excellent!!
Prices were the same as Starbucks originally. Stopped going there and went back a year later, prices dropped. Great environment and the bakery in the back is a nice touch.
Great artisan coffee, relaxed and spacious decor, hidden jem of a french bakery in back.
Great coffee and pastries!
If you are going to or coming from Canada through 89 N-S, you have to visit Catalyst for a great coffee and a home made soda with organic ingredients. You may also want to drink beatiful maple milk or a nice home made iced tea. Their coffee selection is superb with local and nationwide selections. Spacious setting of the coffee house is very relaxing.
Nice family place.
Good customer service and great coffee. I got an iced latte with coconut milk and maple syrup and my partner got an iced coffee, both were delicious. The atmosphere is nice too. There's definitely a science theme, all the creamers and sugars are in beakers.
Love the maple lattes! Great place to get some work done.
Would recommend to also stop by the bakery! Multiple coffee options and flavours, also an option for oat milk. The chocolate croissants are really good, also a sustainable option to take a day old croissant for half the price.
Delicious coffee. Welcoming and helpful baristas.
Catalyst has an incredible atmosphere that sets the scene for a world class coffee experience - because getting coffee here is nothing short of an experience. The coffee itself is excellent, and it is made fresh in front of you. I would gladly drive the 45 minutes from my house to have coffee here on a regular basis
Get the siphon!
A coffee-shop that knows its coffee, that has a bakery business attached to it the further you walk into this beautifully decorated and designed haven. The bakery does amazing pastry and sourdough bread. A very rich environment with a tranquil setting. Highly recommended!
Amazing space, welcoming crew and incredible coffee. if you’re a brew lover. and love good energy spaces - this spot is meant for you! exceptional!
Visiting from pittsburgh. Absoluetly loved the service and quality.
Still the best coffee house I've ever been to. The staff always knows the customers.
I love this home town coffee shop! It has a welcoming atmosphere, perfect for a date or to meet up with friends. They have a selection of coffees but also tea and other drinks. Bonus: you'll find Red House Sweets in the back for a phenomenal treat to go with your drink!
Excellent service, friendly staff, delicious coffee, and a comfortable atmosphere! Don't forget to try the baked goods in the back while you're here for your coffee.
The best coffee you'll have in the city, period. Great little up-and-coming hangout and the baristas are really nice.
I'm just visiting and it's so sad to be leaving such a wonderful coffee and bakery behind! I highly recommend a dirty chai :]
Super cool place that was done right. Very hip for St. Albans. Friendly staff. Oh and the coffee's great too.
Excellent service and a very relaxed atmosphere in their shop. The common across the street is beautiful and an excellent place to enjoy a coffee and maple roll.
Lovely, clean and friendly coffee bar. If you are a coffee snob like me, this is a MUST GO IN. Then, walk in the back to grab your DELICIOUS CROISSANT!! Thank you for the hospitality on a rainy day to this business traveler!
Great place, awesome pastries and coffee and bread.
This place is great it has everything you want at a coffee shop/ bakery in the back. Very tasty snacks and drinks the staff is so friendly and kind. I would recommend to everyone!!
The worker on the front was very sweet but the old big woman was not at all, and on our experience she was rude impolite and demanding addressing an issue mostly handled in an hostile attitude. The bakery from the front had overcooked dryness combined with a consistency dryness of a bakery that has been left outside in a glass container with lid for many hot days as well as the faint musty smell emanated from it the pastry as it was chewed, the crust had a a bit of over overdone burnt taste that wasn't plesant. Sorry it lacked the qualities of a fresh of the usual pastry by far. I was going to overlook the pastry experience for the evening but the attitude of the old woman overtook the experience with the excuse of people "working very hard". Perhaps she worked hard on her improved baking? A better coffee? Or better couches to sit upon? Or better people skills and attitude? Or use the excuse me, sorry for the interruption, thankyou very much for understanding phrases? Its a mystery how a place with a little of good looks and mediocre coffee still stands in this economy. My last thoughts to share are, that girl in the front memorizing the names of all customers deserves a promotion with better benefits for her outstanding compromise in performance and that all the coffee needs its a new brand of coffee.
Very relaxing and good service. Would give solid 8.5 out of 10. I will be going back at least once a week, and I dont even like main street stores.
This place was great!
Such a nice find. The service was excellent. The siphon coffee and latte were pretty good. The maple cinnamon roll was tasty. The lemon soda with activated charcoal was different and lemony. Nice place to sip a coffee and catch up on emails. Would definitely visit again when passing through!
I had never had siphon coffee before and really enjoyed it. Fantastic customer service.
Great atmosphere and unique seating arrangements. Excellent coffee, I enjoy watching them brew using a syphon coffee brewer. The staff is very friendly and the space very clean.
First time in town. Amazingly cozy spot for a coffee and a small snack. Would absolutely recommend!
Comfy place
Great environment and even better coffee, red house sweets is a hidden gem in the back of the coffee house. I suggest the bacon and egg croissant a coconutt macsroon with a double shot of espresso.
Great place for coffee and hanging out. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting. Amazing and excellent service.
Ordered a large hot mocha. Got an 8oz barely warm mocha. Over$5.00.
Awesome spot
The cold brew is consistently nice and strong, maple latte is delicious, and the baked goods are great too. The quality and vibe remind me of coffee shops in bigger cities, but the service is small-town friendly. Happy to see this addition to St. Albans.
Quiet relaxed environment and great coffee. Will definitely go back next time I'm in the area.
Great coffee and dog friendly
OMG!! The croissant are amazing....perfect puffed pastry! Maple cinnamon glazed sticky buns.....yummmmm! This place is legit!!
Great coffee and pastries. Very friendly staff
Really cool spot. I stopped in here when they first opened a few years ago and it felt like finding the perfect coffee shop in a place like NYC but with out the over crowding. Brilliant interior with a very comfortable and private atmosphere, great coffee brewed with new age tecniques right in front of you.
Good coffee
Love this place. The atmosphere is great for groups or just sitting alone trying to hunker down and get some work done. Very friendly staff. After two visits, you'll be treated like a "regular" and you'll keep coming back.
Excellent coffee People were very very Nice inside!
Karen has a way to bring a smile to every customer who comes through the door. My go to favorite right now is the London Fog, it's tea, milk, and vanilla simple syrup, really tasty. I love the atmosphere here too, it's rustic but modern, city feel but not too urban.
Favorite spot to meet co-workers & clients over a dirty chai & siphon brewed coffee. Love the atmosphere & work/relax spaces. They'll reserve the big table if you need it & all the staff are welcoming & kind.
Love love love this place. Amazingly delectable coffee with the friendliest staff on all of Main St. An absolute must for a morning pick me up. But I will warn you, do not have the maple pastry scroll because you won’t be able to stop at just one!!!
High quality coffee and other drinks in a very chill, modern/hipster space. Great to see this kind of establishment in downtown St. Albans.
Good Coffee & Good Service
Love that they are personable and is welcoming to both my young children as well as me. They also have a drink that kids like that had no caffeine so they feel like they are getting special drinks like me.
Best coffee Inc Vermont!
Best coffee I've had in Vermont, EVER. And always consistent. Super cute atmosphere. On par with the best coffee houses in my hometown: Brooklyn NYC. Adorable shop, incredibly knowledgeable owner and staff... you really can't go wrong. The espresso is super proper, not oily, tremendous flavor. If you want regular, try the Sumatra siphon.
I absolutely love this place! It's so comfortable and they have some amazingly delicious selections! Anytime I come to St. Albans it's on my list of places to go!
Had lunch at Catalyst today. The atmosphere is nice and relaxed, the food was excellent, and the raspberry tea was quite refreshing. I’ll come here again when I’m next in St. Albans.
This is the most welcoming and classy coffee bar/cafe anywhere! Karen and her staff create amazing specialty coffees, lattes, teas and sodas and there are delightful bakery items as well! Great spot for meetings or just relax with a warm frothy beverage like my fav. ‘Golden Chai Latte’.
Great crew! They were super helpful with me today. I'm an avid non coffee drinker and they helped me out! Highly recommend!! Maple Latte was great!
Beautiful open space with hip coffee-brewing techniques and cold brew on tap. There’s also a bakery in the back.
I'm only in St. Albans a couple times a year and every time I am, I get the siphon coffee here thinking it might not be as good as I remember, and I'm always wrong. Really an extraordinary cup of coffee
I have only been here once but the woman running the place is absolutely delightful. I am a bit of an introvert and do not need someone being "fake nice" to me. I felt super comfortable to take my time ordering and appreciated how she helped the other customers who walked in as well. Very good coffee too. But let's be honest, no one goes out for coffee just for the coffee. It is all about the experience. This is a good place to get coffee for all the reasons.
A gem of a cafe tucked away in St Albans with excellent siphon brewed coffee and locally sourced treats. The ambiance is perfect both for getting work done and visiting with friends. To top it off, there's a wonderful bakery in the back with freshly baked breads and pastries!
Always wonderful, beverages and ambiance!
Nice little restroom in a stylish coffee bar.
Great place for coffee..and great bakery for all those baked goods Try it you will like it....
This is my usual stop for coffee when i'm visiting Saint Albans because it has an important combination -- the coffee is ok, and it seems to be open more often than The Grind. The bakery in this place makes some solid croissants, I'd recommend the ham and cheese ones. But as far as iced coffee goes, it's fine - not great. Don't think I've ever had their proper siphon coffee though which is their thing, so maybe I'm just going there for the wrong thing.
Our favorite coffee shop in St. Albans by far! It has a chill community-focused vibe with tables for every need. Many delicious drink options. A wonderful owner and super nice barista's. Very fast wifi. Bonus is the bakery in back.
An amazingly hip yet warm and inviting place to enjoy a hot or cold beverage. A game changer for northern Vermont. Warning: If you like horrible coffee and unfriendly baristas, stay away.
- Great drinks - Highly knowledgeable & friendly staff - Varied seating for social/casual and tables to work on a computer for a couple hours - WiFi 15-20 Mbps - Bakery down the hall Top quality coffee from a variety of roasters, and baristas that treat the job as a craft. Stopped by to get some work done out if the hotel. If you have the time I recommend the syphon brew, if not the drip is fantastic. Very pleasant atmosphere augmented by the bakery up the hall. Don't pass through St Albans without stopping at Catalyst.
Great place and relaxing environment for a Saturday morning coffee.
Good coffee and the bakery that shares the space is awesome.
I love the energy here!! The coffee is great. It's one of my favorite places for client meetings.
Best coffee.
Good place!
My favorite coffee shop in Vermont.
Great coffee and even better service. Plus they have such an innovative rain gutter, so discretely stylish. Golly gee
Absolutely love this place when we are home visiting our family...Never miss an opportunity to stop in. Can’t get a better cup of coffee in NYC where we live and certainly not with the friendly service and super comfortable and spotless surroundings. The woman who runs the place always remembers us and our order despite only coming a few times a year. She is the real deal and so sweet! This is a world class coffee shop and shouldn’t be missed nor taken for granted. Thanks!
Best coffee place in the city, absolutely can't be beat.
Nice atmosphere for a coffee shop. Enjoyed our treats from Red House Sweets as well.
Dog friendly, great service and food!
Always great
Very homey. Nice place to go to have your coffee and bagel
Great place to get a cup of your choice and just take in the relaxing atmosphere, the Barista's are helpful and friendly, but being a specialty shop, you guessed it, prices may very, over all pretty cool place to get together with friends, it's clean and offers wide open or more intimate seating in the back. All in all, it's a pretty great coffee shop if you want more than something like Dunkin donuts it's can offer.
Excellent coffee. A bit pricey, but well worth the price.
Really enjoy my visits to Catalyst. My favorite is the siphon coffee. There is a variety of very comfortable sitting arrangements, easy to have a one on one conversation or a group chatting around the dining room table. I try something new about every other trip.
GREAT coffee, cool atmosphere and the best Darn bakery built right in!
Very warm and welcoming
Sad that they are leaving their beautiful space
Coffee was great, and pastry selection was on point!
Great atmosphere, great coffee, fair prices, kind staff. Bakery in the back is separate. Closes early during the week but who really drinks coffee after 6pm anyways.
Love the coffee here. I get the iced maple latte.
Good location and set up to get a quick but great coffee. The bakery in the back is an extra added attraction and a real treat.
