REVIEWS OF Austin Java IN Texas

Tracey Janus

I'm starting a project to review restaurants not based on the quality of the food, but on the amount of unnecessary waste produced from a meal there. I base my reviews on "typical" meals. Austin Java's coffee cups are typical for other similar establishments, so points don't get knocked for that. Although if they advertised discounts for using reusable cups I would definitely upgrade the review. The reason I gave them 3 stars is the unnecessary plastic cup they served the syrup in that came with my waffle. I was a dine-in customer meaning they could have chosen a non-disposable option for that meal, but instead chose to use a piece of plastic.

The iced coffees are perfectly brewed! If you are not into coffee, they offer delicious sugar cane sodas. There is large patio seating and nice indoor seating with lots of seats. Definitely worth a stop! Also they are eco friendly :-)

LINDA HOPKINS

Casual place downtown. Expensive parking. Good food and coffee. Seems really fresh and healthy for breakfast.

Sarah Lance

We loved this cafe! Their chicken and waffles were super delicious and flavorful. They have great coffee options as well. When we were visiting Austin, we went here for breakfast almost every day. Wish there was one in San Francisco (though that might defeat the purpose of Austin Java lol) 10/10 recommend!

Neelakshi Banerjee

Loved the coffee here! The latte is very strong and the way i like it!

Clarisa De Leon

It’s my first in Austin and we came here for breakfast. Then menu has tons of options. Breakfast is served all day, and they also have Lunch and Dinner. I ordered the Californian Omelette with Breakfast Potatoes as the sidedish $9.95. I honestly wish I would’ve added cheese to it. The Breakfast Potatoes were not crispy, so they’ve might have been boiled, or even baked, I’m not sure. Nonetheless, my meal was delicious you guys! Also, I ordered a soft drink and they have craft sodas, the only actual soda they have is Coca Cola. I combined 2/3rds of raspberry lemonade topped with their version of sprite. Definitely worth the visit you guys!

tekmon

Allright coffee shop, nothing special, nothing negative.

Audi Arellano

Their French toast is the best in Austin. Everything is made fresh with amazing ingredients and it really shows in the taste of their food.

Roy Bermea

Excellent Customer Service and Good Food! I recommend the Avocado Bacon Cheeseburger! Staff was Friendly and very attentive to our needs. Good Job, Austin Java!

Kyle Shebang

Great place to grab a drink before work.

Dominic Graham

Great food, but be wary of pigeons if sitting outside

Aaron Glass

No Austin locals eat here. The coffee is garbage, the food is terrible, the staff seems to deliberately get your order wrong just ‘cause. Advice from a local: go to the coffee shop across the street.

Aleshia Bonilla

I stopped here for coffee and a quick breakfast. The coffee was fine, but I'm not a fan of their pancakes. Their too dense, like big, flat muffin. Plus it took FOREVER to get our food and it wasn't that crowded.

Lee Nardo

Great place for a cheap and delicious Sandwich, Burger, or breakfast Taco. A true Austin spot that's been serving great food since I was a smol boi in Austin in the 90's. Good place to take people if they're visiting and you're downtown.

Raj Ponnaiya

I was expecting a little bit more both in terms of ambience and quality of coffee. Mediocre ambience with old, flavorless coffee

Paul DeMello

This is a perfectly fine Austin Java, maybe not the best one since I don't think they carry everything, but it's still pretty good

Jack Smith

Food, atmosphere, quality and people

c s Cavanah

Great service. Great food and coffees. Brian is awesome!

Hildi Barnett

They're great except for the pastries, haven't had good experience with them.

John Freeman

Interesting coffee place with some interesting specialties. It would be great if they expanded their specialty list.

Jeff Murray

Austin Java is a great local coffee chain that offers a little something for everyone no matter what you're craving. From omelettes to pasta dishes and smoothies to pecan flavored coffee you can count on AJ to satisfy what you're craving. Also one of the few places that serves multiple versions of bullet proof style coffee!

Nick Rider

Helpful staff, so many cute guys walking around here. Perfect place for food and relaxing

Kim Moreland

Chicken and waffles was amazing!

Aaron Hellman

Amazing service and very well priced food. They really went above and beyond on making us feel welcome and happy.

Reznor Hawkthorne

Wonderful people!

Eduardo Corral Pantoja

Had a great breakfast at a very low cost, the place is also very nice.

Zach Lyons

Staff are always friendly, coffee is pretty good, but never had meal there that felt worth the downtown prices. Remains a great place to get caffeinated before a concert at ACL Live across the street, though.

David Brown

Nice atmosphere, but we had to change our order twice from lack of availability. Decent food

Jason Armstrong

Paid for my coffee was shocked when they handed me the cup and told me it's around the corner... had to make my own coffee and pay a premium price? Could of went to 7-11 and got the same thing probably more variety honestly. They also want a tip for handing you an empty cup wow.

kalkiyani Villeda

Not bad , coffee and lunch too.

Jhon Doe

Nice atmosphere. Really nice cashiers with a friendly attitude.

Cam Judkins

Got my to-go order wrong. Ordered avocado and egg breakfast burrito and got spinach and egg. I was very disappointed when I finally got a chance to open this up. Husband got fruit with his granola and he could tell that they didn't wash the knives because they tasted like onion.

kris schludermann

Great menu, good coffee but the specials end relatively early, so get there early. Seating is not very comfortable.

Nobai Dokht

Love this place. They have prompt service, great food, awesome drinks. There is a nice outside patio to sit down and eat. You're in downtown Austin with everything around you. A definitely must go

Mr. Sir

Very clean place to eat. The food was super good. I need to go back soon. It seems like this location runs really smooth. Great team working there.

Paul Mullen

Always good coffee but food is not cheap

Ian Smith

Very friendly young lady serving this morning to help me get over jet lag with a fabulous breakfast and coffee. If you're in the W, come here for breakfast.

Liz Hernandez

The food was awful $30.00 down the drain .

Nadine Griffiths Hylton

We had the sandwich and pasta combo and it was delicious! The mango smoothie was so rich and natural. Loved this place and will definitely be back.

Adrianna Clinton

Great local food, with very delicious french toast, cinnamon butter, and a outrageously tasty iced chai latte. They also have outdoor seating great for those with dogs, and power outlets available inside at the bar.

Hydrachops

It is amazing, we came here for breakfast BUT THEY DON’T SERVE BREAKFAST TACOS, I mean, who does that?

Anthony Ortega

Great TFPL players!!

Carrie Dagenhard Rutledge

I ordered a Thai salad and it was borderline inedible. The greens were slimy, the noodles were clumpy and undercooked and the salad dressing actually tasted like soap. I only ate a couple bites before I gave up, and I've had a stomach ache since we left. I'm pretty tolerant when it comes to food and I don't send things back (although in this case I should have.) But that salad was disgusting and I won't be going back.

Katharine Zamesnik

I come here every day for coffee. Love the staff! Prices are too high though

Adina Emmel

Friendly staff. French toast was amazing. Biscuit and gravy was bland while the biscuits were hard as a rock. Coffee was mediocre.

Kelly Scott

Great food, great atmosphere, great customer service

Jennifer Reinfried

Cozy little spot with delicious good, great coffee, and friendly staff. Plenty of seating and a large menu with a good variety of dishes to choose from. I love to go here and grab a bite to eat, find a spot to chill, and read my book for a while. Will definitely keep coming back.

Anna Sanchez

My first time here. I found the food very delicious and appealing to my wallet!!! I will most definitely visit here again!!!

Carla Stevens

More than a coffee house but not quite a restaurant. Counter service and a decent menu, but sometimes the service is slow and it tends to be crowed especially during peak times, but I guess you would expect that in the heart of Austin. The burger that I had juicy and well prepared but some of the menu others in my group ordered were not as good as hoped for. Did I say the service was slow? For me that is the biggest draw back. Guess I need to go sometime when it is not the lunch hour.

Hakha Momeni

WiFi service is slow and unreliable so can't really get any work doneThe forgot to make my coffee. Bathrooms aren't in Austin quality level

Kenneth Lapeyrolerie

Yummy beverages

Chris Jurica

Great breakfast spot to sit outside and people watch. The wife had french toast and I had the hippie omelet with bacon and hashbrowns. The omelet was on point, bacon and hashbrowns crunchy. Watch the grackles when you get up because they'll help their self to your plat. I can't speak for the javas and mochas, etc. as I only drink regular black coffee, but I'm sure they're good based on what I saw and did have. Service was quick and friendly. Stop in and try this place out and you can thank me later.

Stephen Freeman

Excellent coffee and delicious hummus and pita!

Sean Hooks

Ok

Jonny McMeows

The food and service are incredible. Truly a gem for anyone downtown!

Carlos Manzanero

This place is phenomenal! Management is on top of it (Lauren is the best

David Purtseladze

Cancelled my mealpal order last minute. The cuban sandwich wasnt that great either.

Geoffrey Morris

Good food, service and prices. Great stop for breakfast and lunch

Olethea Brown

Coffee is ok at the 2nd and Lavaca location but the Barton Springs location is much better, plus their air conditioning works...it's ROASTINGGG in here.

Sarah Waddle

Coffee was good. But the staff was having tickle fights while serving me day old biscuits. When I ordered something else because the biscuits were like rocks the waitress said "We made them this morning so I don't know what happened." The omelet they served me after had raw mushrooms and onions in it.

Kevin V

The spiced apple cider is excellent.

Jennica Garcia

Always been a fav. Get the eggs benedict!!

Jennifer Dutton

Good service and good food for breakfast. The only concern are the pigeons on the patio.

Emily Hartman

Thank you to the kind man who offered me the lemonade! I was having a stressful day yesterday and it’s little things like that that really help sometimes :)

Joseph Mills

Really good food. Stopped in here and got two burgers and two drinks. After tip came out at about 32$. Portions aren't overly generous, but I didn't care much because the flavor was fantastic. There's an obvious quality to the ingredients they used. Strongly recommend the cream of mushroom and curry soup. Also tried the African spicy peanut soup. Was delicious, but reminiscent of Panera's creamy tomato soup. I'll definitely stop by here again next time I come through.

Eddie Seifert

The food was really great you should go here

Rene Flores

Good food, good service and good coffee, but the best reason to go to this particular location is the people watching. You see just about every kind of person imaginable in downtown Austin, and this block, which includes City Hall and the new 2nd Street shopping district is no exception.

suhas bobba

Best lunch combo just for 7$ !!!

Kristina Coronado

Not good....wasn’t a fan. My food was cold when served

Ziv Kruger

Good food, hip location.

Jeff Stensland

I always have the Ladybird. I need to venture around the menu, but the turkey burger with fresh avocado and a little pesto mayo hits the spot.

Alex Ximenez

Best place to get work done, people watch, and drink good coffee with free refills in downtown Austin

Tracy Freeman

OH! and it's tip free! I see why the servers are so happy, there is definitely a family environment. Will definitely be returning!

Luann Lamb

Love this place but losing familiar faces we come to enjoy. We want Cooper back. He always made us feel welcome.

Sam Stoke

The bartenders are great, very personable. Their drink menu is quite expansive.

Bryan Espinoza

Food comes in the correct proportion, the line is fast and place is nice to chill

Jeni Hudson

Delicious food, wonderful staff, good coffee. Will definitely be stopping by again.

KAD

Food is great as always and love the dog friendly patio. They have a lot of shops around there to check out as well do convenient to sit and have a quick meal as you’re shopping. Wouldn’t have a quick bite unless it’s something small

Zachary Kaufman

The food is good and it's a great value. I had the lentil veggie burger and it was excellent.

Jason Reynolds

Food was just OK. Nothing special. Service was good.

Chang Cho

I have been in Austin for 15 years and this is probably the worst breakfast I've ever had in this town. The chicken and waffles looked like fried paper and cardboard. I dont ever usually give 2 stars for just the food alone but I think 2 stars is being nice here. I was starving and could still only barely touch the food. Austin Java, what happened to you guys? Is it just this location? Smh...

Max Z

Bad bagels, OK coffee.

Mary-Beef Newman

My favorite place to grab a taco to take back to the office, with amazing coffee of course (the Texas Pecan is the best). Also one of our favorite places to grab lunch with co-workers.

andy barnet

Hot coffee at reasonable prices. Friendly service.

Enrico Gilli

Good place to have breakfast

randeep toor

Awesome place, great people, service, food and Coffee is top notch as well.

Gabrial Bernard

I wouldnt suggest getting biscuits and gravy late in the day, biscuits were rock solid!! Servers had no problem switching out my order. Food was good!!

Katrina Nakhjavan

Avocado toast and vietnamese iced coffee are perfection

Mark Stevens

A great place to enjoy a coffee in the downtown area of Austin. If you want, you could also enjoy a nice meal with a sandwich or soup or whatever else the menu offers. I am partial to their white chocolate mocha :-)

Kelley Stalder

Good solid food and drink fare with pleasant staff and rewards for frequent visitors and trivia nuts. And within walking distance of my office. Can't get much better than that!

Steven Hinkle

Was downtown and needed breakfast. I ordered the traditional with fried eggs, chorizo, and taters. It was very good. Will definitely come back.

Rocky Ontiveros

Good stuff

Edgar Alc

You'd think if they were going to change the way they made thier dishs, they would say something on the menu. I used to love the chicken and waffles here, now its no better than ihop

Michelle Arnold

The margs are absolutely delicious and they have a nice outdoor patio that's shaded. But the best part was clearly the "help your self to the unlimited queso and chips" bar inside of the building. They had other toppings as well such as green and red salsa but the queso was soooo good! Highly recommend stopping in and grabbing a few drinks!

Barb Richter

Never had a bad burger until today. Soggy, greasy bun and not the good greasy spoon type. Meat like mush.

Quentin Garrett

Yummy food and coffee!!! Bathrooms dont have signs on them tho which was odd.

Olga Garcia

I've been a huge fan of Austin Java for over four years. It has everything that I want in a restaurant and coffee shop combined. I loved the seasonal coffees that they offer. One of the best things about this Austin Java is that it's downtown. I love being able to sit outside and people watch. I love their food too. I've always had delicious everything there. My secret obsession is their breakfast tacos.

Jonathan Taylor

Sadly this is where I go when I'm trying to be healthy in this city. Soup good and breakfast tacos are underrated. Oh I find the salads gross and bland, my brother doesn't mind them though. Everything else I've tried has been worth ordering again.

Amber Vail

I love this place. It's in the middle of everything downtown and parking is great. The food is always good and the staff is very cool. Definitely an Austin original.

Jacob Robinson

Dropped in for a quick lunch. Chicken salad sandwich was solid. Cesar salad was meh. My friend said they're an awesome breakfast place!

jenna zubrus

The coffee was great!!! My omlette was peefect, i didnt even have to modify it. Staff was helpful and friendly.

Maridith Stockmeyer

The food and coffee here are delicious and the staff is very friendly and fun. Will definitely be coming back!!

John Smith

In and out in no time! Great costumer service.

John Powell

I loved this place; the people were awesome and I was able to grab a beer and a Cobb without going broke. Everyone, from the folks helping us to the others guests, were super laid back and friendly.

Alex Drummond

Friendly service; all day breakfast; reasonably priced.

Joshua Kleinstreuer

Delicious food, for a moderate price, in a great downtown location. Just beware of the birds if you sit outside!!

April Peterson

Service is horrible. Ordered toast and it was a 30 min wait. No one in the restrunt. 5 workers and 4 just chatting and looking confused

Kayleigh Smith

One of my favorites that we went to in Austin. Whatever you get for breakfast, make sure you get their salsa, it’s homemade and delicious!!

Heather Stanley

The staff is hit or miss as far as what is Gluten Free. One day I told the counter help that I have Celiac Disease and explained what I could not eat and accidentally got served soup with flour in it. The last time I went, the woman at the counter was more knowledgeable about Celiac Disease. She said, "All the soups have a little flour in them." Good to know. The veggie plate is above average. The mashed potatoes and broccoli are amazing, but the hummus is just OK.

Dee Frazier

Great place to go for brunch, i wouldn't say it was the best place, because the ambiance could use some work, but its convenient. The food is always consistently good, just don't expect them to know what the word vegan means. The mimosas are always really great too. The service is always on par and so if the coffee.

Marcy Beard

Thank you for the decaf "on tap" - a rare and appreciated treat. And it's good! Excellent carrot raisin muffin to accompany the coffee, just watch out for aggressive pigeons if you sit outside.

Harper Dungan

Went in to buy something, but I had to use the restroom first. When I asked where the restroom was the, very very rude, employee told me “you have to buy something to use it” as the guy was telling me where it was. They definitely lost my business (:

Jennica Lambert

Great service, breakfast, and coffee. Good job y'all!

Mason Ellis

I eat here all the time because it's close to work, but over half the time, my order is not made correctly, ie order sandwich on wheat, and it comes on white, or order salad with ranch, but then comes tossed in balsamic with a side of ranch. My time is generally limited for lunch so I cannot always request food to be remade. It is a consistent aggravation though. There is plentiful, friendly staff, however the attention to detail is sorely lacking.

Matt Jackson

I usually don't give bad reviews, but in this case I'm going to have to. We ordered the pasta with meat sauce from kiddie menu and it was very spicy. We couldn't believe how spicy it was. I would even of had a hard time eating it! We complained and were given a free fruit smoothly, and Matt the manager seemed friendly enough. But he, didn't seem to care to fix the situation so it doesn't happen again for the next people. Just just beware. We also ordered a grilled cheese sandwich, it was very dry with a very small amount of cheese. It was almost like 2 piece of wheat toast with a slice of cheese in the middle. The veggie burger was very good, however the tortilla chips with it were very stale. Over all, not impressed.

Ami Tay

Why isnt this place a 5/5??! Amazing breakfast, (red velvet waffles are to kill for) friendly staff, good coffee. Get 10% off if you answer their question of the day. Edit: the service has gotten slow as of February 2017

Ethan Cohen

Best breakfast tacos in downtown, and their pancakes and bacon are SO GOOD! Great breakfast spot for sure.

Wini Griffin

If you love birds go here and sit outside! Try their carbonara, its light and delicious. They lose 2 stars from me because the bathrooms are disgusting. I dont like to eat a good meal at a good place then take a bathroom break that ruins the entire vibe.

StuartAmber Lamkin

Great food and coffee! Staff is very friendly as well. Breakfast is excellent. Get the pancake!

Levi Muniz

Migas plate is really good! Coffee is pretty legit and the station for your creamer and sugar is situated pretty nice. Prices were pretty good too!

Delwin Goss

Good strong coffee, good food. convienent to City Hall. Expect down town prices.

Evelin Morales

The food here is great, but the experience I had today not so great. I'm a City of Austin Employee. City Hall Employees get a 10 % discount (City Hall is next door to Austin Java). Went in, ordered my food and right before I paid I politely asked for my discount. The cashier by the name of Cris, who I later found out has a management position there told me, why should I give you a discount? before I responded he said just kidding. He then asked if I was going to leave him a tip? and then again cut me off by saying oh yeah, you just asked for a discount. Why would you leave a tip? in my opinion, he was super rude, so guess what? I didn't leave him a tip and I ALWAYS tip. Not sure how he got his management position, but maybe he should be thought some manners and be sent to some customer service classes.

Chetna Samant

Coffee is ok tacos are very average

Andrea S

Good Morning Everyone. I went to Austin Java on September 21, 2017. I work for the State of Texas in the downtown Austin area. The customer service is very friendly at this location. They choose to make very one feel welcomed no matter what you order. Today I order a Monster Blueberry muffin. This muffins are made locally in Austin. There is no muffin paper, or no plastic wrap around the muffin. Which I loved because sometimes they can be wrap to long and give a weird after taste. They used real berries in these muffins which helps give a fresh taste on a common pastry. When I cut open the muffin it did not fall apart or crumble. It was the perfect amount of moist and dry. Overall, if you need a quick breakfast on the go Austin Java is the place to go.

Corey DeAngelis

Breakfast tacos

Ordered a Veggie burger kind, it was okay, but the fries were amaze. The drink is very refreshing too. Try the mint flavour one.

Brent Bell

Love this place and their new location over by the airport. Would give it 5 stars if the food was more consistent. Specifically their French toast. It seems to be 50/50 on whether its cooked or to soggy to tolerate. Even had to send it back twice in the same visit once. However it's so good its worth the risk, and thus I still order it almost everytime when I'm there for breakfast. Also the staff is wonderful about correcting it when it's bad. The bacon there is also some of the best in town!

joseph chancey

This review is for the new location near the VA hospital. So glad to have this place near us, fresh food friendly service and happy hour all day Saturday and Sunday. Love this place get the brisket Benedict it fantastic

Klaus Ruhl

Great coffee, delicious food and quick service. Prices a little high but diffently worth it

Brian Cadmus

Good food, good staff. Didn't try the coffee but I'll assume it's also good

Jeremy Kuhnke

Cruising around on the scooter we decided to drop in and check this place out. We were pleasantly surprised by a pretty good brunch. Out on the patio they have misters and fans so even in the heat the patio is comfortable. The patio is also dog friendly, so if you want take your pooch to brunch you can.

Clayton Walter

I used to come here multiple times a week for lunch and coffee. The food has always been good and the staff is friendly. However, the last several months the AC has been struggling and it has been uncomfortably warm inside. I am spending my lunch breaks in cooler locations until they can get this sorted out.

Monica Murgia

Great bagel with lox.

Olivia Torres

Had the breakfast quesedilla, liquid candy, a cookie and apple muffin. Everything was delicious a bit pricey but i believe because everything is local. Good environment went aroun 9-11 a bit crowded but overall good experience.

Charles Russell Jr

Great place to get a nice breakfast downtown. Parking at 3rd and Guadalupe is $8 for an hour if you cant find street parking

Phillip South

We found the staff friendly and accommodating, and the food excellent. We skipped the indoor seating to enjoyed the kind weather. Anywhere in the austin metro area this would be considered a good value. But down town Austin makes this place a bargain! Goat cheese angus burger with prosciutto and caramelized onions with a beautiful side salad (pecans!) or great tasting French fries? Yeah. Ten bucks. Same price as Fudruckers but way more refined.

Mike Carter

Great food and friendly service!!!

J3carey3

How disappointing it is that I work one block away from this restaurant as it could be a very convenient place for me to eat breakfast and lunch most days, however 80% of the time I order from this place it is incorrect. Typically I order breakfast tacos which they almost always put bacon on mine, and seeing as I am a vegetarian is not edible to me, and puts egg on my colleagues even though I specifically ask for their not to be. In addition, last week I tried to call in my order and turns out their phone line was down for several hours, seems they would have noticed the phone not ringing. Now I just called in an order from the menu they have linked here on google. I was told the menu item I requested is no longer on their menu but they could make it with a note to the kitchen, I agreed. When I arrived to pick up my order I found that they had charged me almost double what the menu priced the item at for the changes, from 7.49 to 12.60, a lot for an appetizer item. Guess I will have to find another spot to patron several times a week.

American Geisha Experience

I ordered a hot chocolate, and although it was delicious I paid too much for a half full cup of comfort. I wanted to support Austin Java because it is a local company but next time I'll go to Starbucks.

sam falor

Great food and friendly staff! The lox and bagels are delicious.

Amy Ma

Hip place that serves breakfast all day. Casual but usually the place to grab a quick bite from city hall

Victoria Chii

I have never had a negative experience with Austin Java until this at the Manchaca location. The waitress, Bella, was extremely rude and talked down to me when I placed a to go order. On the phone, she asked for my phone number, and she got one of the digits wrong, so I corrected her saying that it was actually a nine not a one. She sarcastically said okay whatever on the phone. That was kind of odd to me, but I brushed it off. I said okay thank you so much after I place my order, and she said okay yeah bye. I was right next to the restaurant, so I decided to go in and pay ahead of time so I could run, take care of a few things, and come back. Shet me there was a surcharge for to go orders, and I expressed I hadn't heard of that before, and she said well this is how we do things here and if you don't like it I can get my manager, so I said "okay, i guess I'll speak with her. Thank you so much". I spoke with the manager, saying that I have never had a problem with any of the customer service here before And this was the first time I had felt very unwelcome. The manager proceeded to tell me that the waitress is just really young and probably stressed out because they have a lot of orders this morning. After the manager had left, I proceeded to ask for my receipt. The waitress, Bella, said that the receipt was being printed and she would get it in just a second. I waited three more minutes for her to help other customers behind me to go and get my receipt. She went into the kitchen and back out, and I asked her if there was still no receipt. She said the receipt is in the bag that my food will be coming out with And I couldn't have it yet. I told her I needed my receipt now so I could take a picture of it. She told me she needed it back after I took a picture of it. whenever I expressed I never had to do to go orders this way before, she said, "well, this is the way it is". I walked out the door and back in, and she asked me "is there something else you need?" And I said yes, just your name. I left to go sit in my car to wait because I didn't want to be around her. After 15 minutes, I went into grab my food. I went straight to the bar because I didn't want to talk to the waitress, Bella. She saw that I avoided her, so she slammed her coffee down on the front desk, walked over to the bar and aggressively grabbed my bag of food and held it up to my face. She smirked at me and said, here's your food. At this point, I realize that she is targeting me specifically. I over emphasized my thank you so much, And I asked the bar for the manager a second time. At this time, I'm upset. I told the manager how she was treating me and the behavior she was acting upon. The manager proceeded to write it off, saying well, we attract these types of workers for $8 an hour. $8 an hour isn't even livable wage, so you can imagine she's young and doesn't have very much work experience yet. I told her that shouldn't matter because work is about helping others and being of service and getting paid for our service to others. she said yes, I agree, and her behavior with the coffee is not very professional. I will talk to her about it. I said, I don't know if she has something going on in her life that would make her act this way, but you cannot bring personal business into the workplace. You have to leave it at the door! The manager said, I agree, but, again, she is very young. all in all, I don't feel that this situation was cared for in an adequate and professional manner. I feel her behavior is unacceptable, especially when I was nothing but nice to her and trying to be understanding with whatever her situation was. I do not think that the manager writing off her situation as her not being paid enough looks very good on the company. I told the manager that I will no longer be taking orders from her establishment, and she just agreed with me. Saying that she was going to talk to the waitress. They did not try to compensate for the situation or take responsibility for it. This was the worst experience of customer service I have ever had.

Kirby Coats

Horrible service. A staff of 5+ people at the front and yet I have had my order forgotten about, left sitting out for 10 minutes or more, and no sense of remorse when finally given my food. Please get it together, guys. Come on!

Lurlean Hudson

This place seem a bit racist. Arrived to get a table. Server told me he was about to clean the table off for myself and guest. In the midst of doing this a group of white people came in and he gave my table to them. I complained and then he gave me a table with chairs that had bird poo on it. I won’t go back at all.

Alicia Whitaker

As a downtown worker, I have been parking in City Hall for 8 years. I made the mistake of never stoping in here. Super friendly and accommodating service. Validate your parking, get a refill coffee for a dollar, and all the food is delicious. Thanks for being in business!!

kimchi fried rice

Food was yummy!! The drinks were so delicious! Restaurant itself is in a convenient location. The staff were so nice too.

Bruce Thelen

Good downtown lunch spot. Curry mushroom soup is great when it is soup of the day.

Michael Hodson

Was a regular until they stopped doing all-you-can-eat drink for decaf. Wouldn't be that hard to do a pot, like Starbucks does. O well. Won't return.

Kevin Murray

Great coffee and plenty of food options. Dark roast us super smooth

Debbie Maynor

This review is for the 2nd street location. I used to come here often when i worked downtown. Stopped by today and breakfast taco was good as usual. Got a latte and the cup was only half full so asked for a full cup, whicj is what i usually get. The guy said he would make it over. He made the nastiest cup of coffee i have ever had so i know it was intentional. Sad that staff think that is appropriate when asked to do their job.

Tried the Classic Benedict today. Really enjoyed and look forward to eating here again.

I'm only here for a short time, and I stopped by Austin Java for breakfast. The staff were chill and kind, the ambiance relaxed. The best part, however, was my chai latte. Never have I been to a coffee-serving establishment where I've been able to drink my morning tea / coffee without first burning my tongue, then taking the lid off, then waiting, then slowly sipping it until it cools down to a proper temperature. I have no idea what the guy behind the latte maker was doing, but my drink arrived in my hand ready to be enjoyed without the tongue burn. High five to that guy - he knows how to serve a warm beverage.

Fish tacos that represent. Do not sit outside unless you want to engage in combat with aggressive birds. Great people watching.

The food and coffee here is OK but the place seems to have gone down hill from what I remember when I worked nearby in the mid 2000s.

I paid $5 for a large ice coffee I believe. Honestly over priced when you can go to Starbucks and get the same thing for cheaper.

Amazing place for great food in downtown Austin. You get everything from pancakes to pastas here all day. Very good prices!
