Update. I came tonight. I wanted to get a coffee at the counter and maybe cake and then go sit down but you have only table service and refuse me because you want me to sit and order. I don't want to do that. You should let people do it how they want to. Needless to say we left without purchase. I went to a free comedy night here by myself. The environment is calm, dark and relaxing. They have great cake/pie and cofee. Very nice place

Had coffee, dessert and lunch or dinner here lots of times over the years and tonight was the worst. The 3 waitresses seemed to be arguing over which one was going to take us, in a bad way, then the waitress had the order wrong and corrected one item. Not sure if she was just having a bad day or what but it was embarrassing as some out of towners were with us and this is the place we suggested for dessert and coffee.

Coffee Underground is true to its name.. It is below street level..underground!! So on to the coffee bit then.. Just about OK..food was also OK. Sitting area is large.. OK.. Make it very large.. What was interesting was that this place doubles up as some evening live theater venue as well.. Though I didn't quite spend my time through the evening, I could imagine this place becoming quite busy for the events they publicize..

Cute place. However, RUDE staff. We had a 5lb pup with us and we were told to sit outside...fine, we get it, we were prepared for it. We ordered a salted caramel latte and overheard the barista say to the other one "we ran out of salted caramel" to which the other responds "just pour salt into regular caramel"...NEWSFLASH: not the same, it tasted horrible. But I get it, gotta think fast in a pinch - but maybe be discreet about it?? So we got our drinks and went to sit outside...all of the tables and seats were wet. We politely asked the same hostess that asked us to sit outside if we could have a table wiped off. She gave us a dirty look and went outside and FLICKED two leaves off and walked away...we then went back in and asked for it to be cleaned and were sent back with a dirty dishrag... So much for southern hospitality...don't come here if you're looking for a pleasant time and quality service. Save your time and go to Starbucks down the street.

We are from out of town & I have never written a review on Google before, but our server (didn’t know his name, but was the only male server) at Coffee Underground was excellent and was very professional and punctual. We went out with a group of friends on both Thursday and Saturday night before going to the Improv Show (which was also excellent) and had him twice and it was the best table service we’ve had—very genuine and didn’t seem scripted or fake-nice just to receive a tip. The cheesecake was a little done but it wasn’t an issue. We also noticed that the couches were coming apart, so an update to the furniture might be beneficial.... Other than that, everything we received on both days was phenomenal! our Service- 5+ stars our Dessert- 4.5 stars our Environment- 4 stars Thanks Coffee Underground, will be coming back!!!

I have never written a review before on here but I felt the need to give a special staff member their recognition. My husband and I came to coffee underground for our first time last night for dinner and had table service with our waiter who said his name was Rider, I believe. He gave us excellent recommendations, as it was not our first time, and he walked us through the menu. The food and drinks were amazing! So pleased to have good service for the first time in forever. Shoutout to a wonderful staff!

My daughter and I went in for the first time and what an awesome experience. The staff was so nice and really informative on their pastries and drinks. We took food home for lunch, it was delicious. Lattes we drank The Hot Frog were wonderful. Thank you for this delightful morning. I will differently be coming back, unfortunately my daughter will be heading back to California. Cool little spot that is a coffee joint and comedy club connected. Had a couple cocktails and sweet potato fries which were surprisingly outstanding. The cocktails were also very nice. The thing that sets this place apart is the atmosphere and service which are both great!

Such a unique coffee spot. I love meeting business associates or friends for a coffee and a chat. Love their quiche and the lattes that come in giant mugs when you're not on the go. Warm, inviting place. Parking isn't bad if you use one of the nearby garages and don't mind walking a couple of blocks (and this place is totally worth the walk).

First I want to say how much I love this place. The atmosphere and coffee is fantastic. In college I would come here and watch films downstairs for my Art classes, super cool. I have a teen now that loves to meet up with her friends at the CU and chat for a bit while each one gets a coffee and dessert. We went at night and it was super chill. Once we went during the day with my younger daughter to get me a much needed coffee and them some desserts and was told by the host that we can’t sit in the open couches due to they are on a rotation. We just ate and just wanted to chill with dessert on the little couch like we do at night. I was not aware that they had included those couches as a rotation. The host proceeded to take us to the back to a small table, we felt forced and I didn’t like it so I said we’ll just go since the atmosphere was no longer setting right and we ordered our stuff to-go, I saw the host apologizing to the server so when she left I spoke with the server so she didn’t feel like it was her fault that we were leaving and I tipped her anyway since I know how hard it is to be a server on a Sunday. I think we’ll stick with the later hours since that is what we are use to.

Great local coffee and cafe. If you're not a Starbucks person, go here. Lots of tasty treats and fresh food. I had a delicious croissant sandwich with a very fresh side salad that was great value.

A cosy, inviting cafe that would fit just as comfortably in Paris or London. Romantic atmosphere, rainy-day ambiance, great coffee, vibrant night-life, and plenty of delicious baked-goods to tempt. I don't go often because it's a special place to me and I don't want to take it for granted. Even after years of knowing about it and talking over a hot-chocolate or espresso with one of my brothers, I'm still always delighted to discover it. To fall down the rabbit-hole, so to speak. I wish more coffee-shops were like this, but it's nicer still that it's unique.

There are shows here on a regular basis. Two nights a week you can rent the venue for any event you'd like. Monday night is open Mike. You can do comedy if you like. The food is good, you should come in and have coffee, cakes, and slight meals. Be sure to let the barrista know you are going to the show.

If you are looking for a latte or cappuccino made by a real barista, complete with properly steamed milk go somewhere else. This is a fun, funky place though. Just depends on what you're looking for. Quiche was ok..breakfast sandwich was ok.

Ah I had to go today since we were downtown. I used to get coffee from here every Friday when I worked a block a way. I would go every day if I could! The price and taste is much better than Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts! The staff is great and I miss working so close!

In town for a couple of days we were looking for some caffeine. We already had a cup some place else but opted to try one here. Down we go into a darkened busness. It was nice walking in. People all over on their computers. Free wifi if you purchase something $2 or more. Coffee was decent but we did not enjoy it as much as the last cup. Tea was ok. We walked around a bit and sat in back. It was dark. And eventually felt a little weird. I needed to use the restroom and the person cleaning it said "I need a little while to clean this ok?" Hmmm, well not exactly. Give me 30 seconds and I will be done. So a gentleman said "use the mens." So I did. I hate doing that but when someone who works there won't let you use the restroom what else do you do? Anyway, the place was average. Definitely try it out.

Coffee Underground has never disappointed. If you just want coffee, have time to stay for breakfast or lunch, or treat yourself to brunch on Sunday... food is always delicious. Great place for breakfast! Very allergy friendly which is RARE. Unfortunately I was unable to check out their open mic poetry or other activities as I was only there for breakfast. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Barista nailed my latte too.

It was pretty busy here given the holiday traffic (and we had elders who wanted to see the event during the day) but there was still room to sit down (and the sidewalks outside couldn't handle the people traffic). Used to like coming here. However after tonight, will not return. The girl taking our order had an attitude with us from the start over how the size was asked. Then proceeded to get the rest of the order wrong. When we tried to correct her she tried to blame it on us. She also was not worried about the customers she had directly in front of her, but more concerned with talking to some friends walking into the door. All in all a very unprofessional experience on her end. I would not recommend coming here after this, and am no longer returning myself.

My friend has written a review of CU already, but we went out with a few friends on both Thursday and Sat night before going to Alchemy Show and had a GREAT time!! I had the nutty monk drink and a chaiitini and a chocolate cake with my husband BOTH times we went because they were very good! Our server was very nice and authentic. He recommended great alcohol drinks and provided over-the-top service despite our bill being kind of low for a typical restaurant... The alchemy show was really interesting but the material seemed a little projected towards a millennial crowd, which is expected since it’s a café, Lol... Next time we come back to Greenville (we live in Minnesota where places like this aren’t common) we will definitely be back and hopefully request the same server and maybe try the other drinks and dessert!!!

My wife and I come here every single time we are in downtown Greenville. Wonderful atmosphere in a unique location, with amazing desserts, shakes and coffee to choose from. There is even live entertainment on some nights, which are definitely worthwhile going to.

Amazing hot chocolate. Never have I ever had hot chocolate that I completely struggled with taking sips over time. I fortunately was able to and enjoyed every last drop of it. Both my tea and hot chocolate were at the perfect temperature. While the food was alright at best coffee underground definitely made up for it with their dessert 100% will go back.

A cozy coffee shop, perfect for winter months when you want to bundle up and drink a warm mug of Joe or tea. The only downside is the coffee quality is not on par with the likes of Methodical or Village Grind. The comfortable atmosphere is the Underground’s best selling point. Also, try to visit during off hours because people tend to stay for long periods of time so seating can be hard to find.

I came in to meet a group of people and had a nice latte while I was here. I'll have to return in order to be able to comment on the food, but I noticed people dropping in with their laptops for a coffee, latte, salad or sandwich. While this isn't to be confused with the Italian restaurant above or the Trio across the street, based on what I saw and what I personally enjoyed, this is a good, low key, casual place to come for a light meal or a small group of people to meet. I enjoyed the experience enough to return, either for a latte or a light meal. Thanks for the positive vibes and welcome atmosphere.

Honestly one of my favorite places in downtown Greenville. Their coffee and pastries are lovely, the employees always seem to be in a good mood, and the atmosphere is very unique and offers a nice change of scenery from most coffee shops. True, this isn't a place to get a cheap cup of joe and be on your way, but between the quality of their food n drinks and the place itself, you get your money's worth here.

Came here for friend’s baby shower. The food is delicious. The drink is tasty. The staffs are nice. The atmosphere here is great for adult to enjoy. They also have so many beautiful painting on the wall. Overall, great place to have your afternoon coffee!

Excellent coffee at a good price. I'm picky when it comes to a good cup of coffee and Coffee Underground definitely delivers. The atmosphere is cool too with plenty of seating and a gallery and theater inside.

Not as good as previous visits. No table service, only counter service. Menu appears to be scaled back for breakfast due to lack of wait staff. Takes a while to receive coffee, drinks, as only 1 person making them. Breakfast was so-so. Used to be my go to place for breakfast when in downtown Greenville, but not any longer.

oh my word this place is amazing!!! the food is great, the coffee is the best I've ever had (and I have had a lot of coffee!!), the atmosphere is super trendy, and the staff are so cool!!! I love this place and I recommend it to all my friends!!!
